Apple support says iPad is locked

I bought an iPad Air 32GB wifi + cellular on my way to Maldives from Dubai Duty Free. I used the ipad in Maldives for a while and have now relocated to India. While in the Maldives i had inserted my sim card into the ipad but never used it on cellular network as the data plans were very expensive. I instead only used the ipad over my wi-fi ntework. Now when I have relocated to India I need to use my ipad over cellular network as I travel a lot and do not have access to wi-fi very often. However when I insert an Indian Vodafone sim into my device I am I see the error "Could not activate cellular data". In setting under Network i see 'Vodafone IN' but under Cellular Data Number I see my old Maldives number. Apple Support says my ipad is locked by Verizon. What should I do?

Sounds like the iPhone is still locked to a carrier. You must
contact that carrier to get the iPhone unlocked.
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
Quick search does not show Pelephone as authorized reseller, but
their website offers to unlock all types of phones. I would think that
they hacked/modified/jailbroke the iPhone and it has become relocked
to the original carrier. Google may provide you some assistance,
but Terms of Service for this forum prohibits discussion of
jailbroken iPhones.

Thank you for trying to help. I followed your instructions, it took 6 hours to download, and then said it could not solve the problem (something to do with error 9?). It will have to go back to Apple - its only 3 days since it came out of the package and its very disappointing for him. Looks like I have to hang around in the Apple store in Plymouth all tomorrow until they can fix it, or will change it. Thanks for your help.

  • My new macbook pro (Mountain Lion) will not log into my 1and1 server to connect to my e mail. My snow leopard macbook does not have this problem - Apple support say it is a 1and1 problem! do I have to wait for an update of Mountain Lion?

My new macbook pro (Mountain Lion 10.8.1) will not log into my 1and1 outgoing mail server. ( It will receive mail - but does not send)My old Snow Leopard macbook does not have the same problem ( server settings etc. are identical) . Apple Support say its a 1and1 problem , 1and1 say it is an operating System prob - I have tried changing port numbers.

My eyes just glazed over...Please in the future break down each of your issues with paragraphs separated by two carriage returns. It would be much easier when trying to address your issues.
Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.
Secondly, this is not the place to vent. If you have a complaint, there is:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    or http://www.apple.com/contact/
We are just end users here helping other end users.
Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.
    Good luck!

  • Apple Support Says the Apple ID I Used to Purchase Songs is Invalid

Apple Support says my Apple ID doesn't exist in their system. So I can't access any of my music files/authorize my new computer-the songs show up in the Library but they're not accessible. If I right click on the songs I purchased in the Library, I see the apple ID they're saying doesn't exist IS there and is the ID I used to purchase the songs. Apple Support said I'm out of luck even though I purchased music that they must have on record even if it was a few years ago. What do I have to do to get through to them-send them screen shots?

Use the password that was associated with that Apple ID at the time you purchased the songs, if you remember it. If you do not, use https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that does not work, can you review your purchase history in iTunes? Mine goes back over ten years despite multiple Apple ID changes.
    Use the following instructions:
iTunes Store: See your purchase history and web order numbers
What do I have to do to get through to them-send them screen shots?
Perhaps, but I think you'd be wasting your time. If they already told you they have no record of that Apple ID they have no record of it. You'll be better off sending them a copy of your purchase history. I don't see how anyone could argue with that.

  • My wife's ipad is locked because she put her password or apple id in wront too many times. it now says connect to itunes. when I connect to itunes it says ipad is locked. cannot go any further. do they not have a safe mode?

my wife's ipad is locked because she forgot her password or put her apple id in wrong. the screen says to connect to itunes. when I connect to itunes on my computer it says her screen is locked (Duh I know that). How do I unlock it without deleting all her info.

    Hello Butzi1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Since iTunes is asking your to enter the passcode, and you are unable to access the iPad, you will need to put the device into recovery mode and restore the iPad by following the directions below.
    Use recovery mode
Follow these steps if you never synced your device with iTunes, if you don't have Find My iPhone set up, or if you can't get to your own computer. You'll need to put your device in recovery mode, which will erase the device and its passcode. Then you'll restore your device as new or from a backup.
Disconnect all cables from your device.
    Turn off your device.
Press and hold the Home button. While holding the Home button, connect your device to iTunes. If your device doesn't turn on automatically, turn it on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
Click OK, then restore the device.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
    Take care,
    Alex H.

  • Apple Support Says You Can't Activate an iPad without iTunes?

So got a new iPad, activated it over wifi, and have been having problems ever since setting up my log in accounts for various services.
So I called Apple support to learn how to unify my various Apple IDs so that I can just use one going forward. They offered to help, but when their recommendations failed to solve my problem, they suggested I plug the iPad into iTunes, which I cannot do. They told me that it was impossible to activate an iPad without plugging it into iTunes, and insisted I must have done this. When I assured the Apple support member that I did not, they simply told me to take it to a Genius bar, that they couldn't help me any more. Well, the nearest genius bar is 2 hours away.
So my first question is, just who is Apple hiring for technical support these days, and are they not training them any more?
My second question is, is there anyway to leap-frog past this front line poorly trained employees and get to someone who can actually help instead of going to an Apple store?
The problem is this - my iTunes account ID is tied to an old e-mail I no longer have. So I called to change my Apple ID for all services. It now works for iTunes, and iCoud, but not Newstand, or Messenger. Apple says they don't know how to solve the problem without connecting to iTunes, yet this doesn't seem like a local iPad problem, rather an account server problem.
So not really sure where to turn after getting such ridiculously out of touch information from Apple support.

Prior to iOS 5 that was the case, one must have iTunes to activate an iPad or iPhone.  iOS5 changed all of that.  Either the tech was not aware of the change or was reading from an old script. Either way it is a training problem.

I'm assuming you used an old email address for your Apple ID.  If that is the case, and you still have the password for your Apple ID, you can log into Apple's Apple ID support and change the email associated with the ID.  Note, you will still always have to use the old email as your login name, but all email will go to the new address.  You can also create an entirely new Apple ID using your new email and use that if you wish.

  • I've been locked out of my iTunes account and Apple support say they can't reset it!

Apple seems to have a problem in which some accounts become locked and cannot be unlocked.  Don’t bother responding with comment s like which i pulled form this site while tracking down my login issues:
"IT'S YOUR ACCOUNT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY IF YOUR STUPID ENOUGH TO SET UP AN ACCOUNT YOU CAN'T ACCESS THAN KICK YOUR OWN...TAIL!!! Pathetic cry babies....smh!"
This is my issue.  My account has worked without an issue since I created the account 1+ years ago.  Then for some reason i was prompted and i could not sign into my account.  I went to iForgot site
Requested Email Verification to unlock account – I request email verification but the email does not arrive. I know my account emsil account works.  I receive email every day to the email account from friends, family and even Apple (download billing receipts, and other apple notifications).  I created another "test" apple id and received an email without  This option does not work either because the verification email is not sent (or never arrives)
Next I went down the challenge question path.  I cannot get past the enter birthdate page as it is never considers my birth date as valid entry.  And yes, i know my birthdate but it is no longer accepted as a valid input.
I had a chat session with Apple support and they are aware of this type of issue but there is no process in place to fix these accounts. According to Apple Support (the person i chatted with) there is concern about protecting users identity by giving other access to your account.  I personally question this response because i had account issue with other companies that mange personal date (e.g. my Bank) and the issue was resolved.  Apple cannot or will not fix this issue.  Without resolution i can not get to content i have purchased but have not downloaded and i can not purchases or upgrade exiting apps.
    Any ideas?

Apple's primitive security scheme was very visibly embarrased by a media writer who saw two of his devices more or less wiped clean while he watched helplessly due to a social engineering crack. (not a hack, a crack)
You and a number of others have been caught between Apple's shutting down identity repair system and whatever unspecified fix.  How long are you stuck?  Well, they have your money already, and you consumers tend to be okay with the abuse, so they aren't in any hurry.

  • I bought an iPad 2 2nd Generation new from Amazon August 2013.  It has no sound.  Apple support says it is over 5 years old.  What can I do?.

Apple Support states this iPad is over 5 years old and they can't advise me.  What do I do to get sound out of it?

I presume you mean that you purchased the iPad in August of 2012, since August 2013 hasn't arrived yet. The iPad 2 was only introduced in March of 2011 and is still sold by Apple, so it's most certainly not over five years old. Apple Support apparently and mistakenly thought you were talking about a 2nd-generation iPod touch. The iPad 2 is still eligible for support from Apple. You can confirm warranty here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
Presuming you've checked the Sounds settings and turned up the volume button and tried multiple apps, try the earphones (or any set of headphones) and see if those work. If they do, the iPad may have a stuck contact in the headphone jack. Inserting and removing the headphones a couple of times may help.
If you get no sound even with headphones, try the usual steps: restart, reset, restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try restoring from a backup and that doesn't fix the problem, try restoring to factory settings and synching your apps. You'll lose the app data and settings, but if the problem is due to a corrupt cache or settings file, that should cure it.
If none of that helps, make an appointment at an Apple Store or call Apple support again and make sure they understand that you're talking about an iPad.
    Regards.

  • Need refund but Apple Support says there is no support in my area??

I was unaware my ipad was stolen and the thiefs, I believe kids,  purchased over $1,000 in-app.  Don't know how they got my password.   Can I recover ANY of that.  I have sought help at Apple Support but it just says no help available in your area when I click on unauthorized purchase.  NOT HELPFUL

  • IPhone won't backup in iTunes (Apple Support says it's Windows related and won't help)

My iTunes freezes constantly and mine and my husbands iPhone's have stopped backing up in iTunes. I get an error when it does go through the process that says "iTunes could not back up the iPhone " 's iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer". Two updates ago, to iTunes and Safari, is when this started happening. Apple support had me do a few things to see if it was iTunes/Safari itself but none worked so they finally told me to get support for Windows. Some of the things I did was Reboot, reset the iphones, create a new windows user account on the computer, uninstall and reinstall all Apple products on the computer. I tried the Windows/Toshiba forums and they seem to believe that it is indeed an issue with Apple's software and not with my computer since it was working fine until an update was done to iTunes/Safari/iPhone.

Nobody here can help you as we are not Apple. We are users like you. If Apple support told you that it is a hardware problem, then take it in to an Apple store or authorized service provider.

  • Worthless conversation w/apple support re ipad & youtube

I called apple support to find out what their "official" answer to the ipad/youtube fiasco is. The rep said the always advises people to search the app store for "adobe" and to install one of the many 3rd party apps that can do what apple's programmers are incapable of doing -- ie, play a youtube video. Stupid answer, but ok. But then I did search for "adobe" -- and found nothing meaningful. Not under "adobe", "flash", or "youtube".
So is anyone using an app to successfully display any/all youtube videos, and if so, what's the name of it? I'm fine w/Apple's hatred of adobe -- I'm not fond of that company either. But either make the youtube app work, or remove it (or allow me to remove it).

    paulskiogorki wrote:
You bet your are there is JimHDk. I just instantly loaded and played a YouTube video on my iPhone over wifi. The same video on the same wifi network didn't load on my iPad up to ten minutes later.
When most iPad users do not have a problem with YouTube and tell you so then you can bet that there is something amiss on your iPad, your router, or your network. Try a different network for youTube access to see if you get better results. Some people who have had problems have seen improvement by changing their network DNS server (search this forum for "dns youtube"). Others have speculated that this problem is associated with certain router types and/or router configuration settings. You might want to check to see if there is newer firmware for your router available on the manufacturer's support web pages.
Also note that the youTube videos displayed on the iPhone are not high definition and are much smaller than the iPad versions so there is no direct comparison between iPhone results and iPad results.
If you can't get better results with any of the above suggestions then take your iPad to an Apple store or arrange an appointment with an Apple expert. There could be something wrong with your iPad.

  • Why am I getting an error message from Apple Support saying that Jive no longer supports Internet Explorer 6 when I'm running FF 31.0?

When I try to access Apple Support or discussions, I get the following error message:
    Attention, Internet Explorer 6 User
Announcement: Jive has discontinued support for Internet Explorer 6.
In order to provide the best platform for continued innovation, Jive no longer supports Internet Explorer 6.
Jive will not function with this version of Internet Explorer. Please consider upgrading to Internet Explorer 7, 8, or 9, or trying another browser such as Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome.
(Please remember to honor your company's IT policies before installing new software!)
I'm not using IE6 — I'm on an Intel Mac Pro!! What is going on?

hello, the useragent of your browser is correctly identifying it as firefox 31. you'll probably have to approach apple's support to find out if they have a bug on their side or are displaying this message to all its users...

  • I bought a brand new iPhone that Apple support says it is a replacment, what shall I do?

I bought a brand new iPhone 4 that has started to over-heat, since the first usage, and when I tried to contact Apple support online, they ask for the serial number for the phone that when entered it said "this serial number is for a product that has been replaced, please enter the replacment serial number for warranty info etc..
What shall I do to get a replacement(for the overheat problem)? even though I bought it brand new!!!!
Not to mention the main problem that got me into this which is the excessive heat that makes using the iphone 4 impossible!!!

Well, it is not a well known retailer and I am sure that going to him and telling him this won't make a difference to him, he might be even not aware of the whole thing.
Rather than not having an Apple retail store here in Jordan, if I want to let Apple check the iphone I'll have to DHL it to a country with Apple retail store available in it!
