Apple symbol turns to block on boot screen and won't load past the screen

-This new problem has occured when I boot my G4 MDD.
-The Apple symbol appears on the screen and the loader at the bottom
continues to spin.
-Until a gray block appears in place of the Apple logo.
I can hear the computer still reving up until a certain point then it
seems to give up and the computer stays idle for however long I keep
the cpu on.
I reset the pram and held it for seven times and it worked but, when I
came home later after leaving it on, the tower shut down.
Again the gray block appeared and reseting the pram didn't do a thing.
I couldn't even get DiskWarrior to boot or the cpu to boot into single
user mode or verbose. I even tested each one of the rams to see if that could be the problem.
I'm pretty baffled and I hope this isn't a major problem, it seems it
might be just the hard drive going batty.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi! "it seems it
might be just the hard drive going batty." Sounds like you already know what the problem probably is. Tom

  • IMac makes a loud beep on start up, won't load past the blue screen and the black ticking dial appears every few seconds in centre of screen.

    Urgent help!
Out of the blue my mac lost the mouse cursor even though it had connection so I rebooted only for the mac to make a loud beep on start up then get stuck at the blue loading screen. It won't load past the blue screen. I've tried to reboot holding down the shift key but no change. I've also shut down, unplugged the main for 15 seconds, re plug and wait 5 seconds before starting up again but no change. Does anyone have any suggestions?
PS: I'm not too sure which systems I am running without being able to check in about this mac. I bought my imac in January or February 2011 if that helps.

The power on self-test resides in the ROM of the computer. This test runs whenever the computer is turned on after being fully shut down (the power-on self-test does not run if the computer is only restarted).
If a fault is detected during the test, you will not hear a normal startup chime. Instead, the system will beep as explained below. If you experience one of these beeps, you may call your Apple Authorized Service Provider for additional troubleshooting assistance.
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable

I updated my first generation iPad to version 5.1.1 and won't go past the setup screen that asks if I want to use the iPad locator. I can go back but can't get any further

I just updated my original iPad 32 GB WiFi to iOS 5.1 about fifteen minutes ago.  But I did it with the system restore feature in iTunes.  So it wiped out everything on my iPad.  But it did work.  Then I restored an earlier backup and all went fine.  Maybe you could try backing up your iPad and then using Restore to get it back to factory settings to see what happens.

  • My powerbook won't load past the grey apple logo screen

I had been away on business for a few weeks and yesterday I decided to run the latest updates for my powerbook. In the middle of it the computer froze for what I think is the first time since I bought it 2 years ago. I ended up having to shut the computer down with the power button. When I turned it on it wouldn't and still won't advance past the grey apple logo screen with the progress indicator. It just sits there for hours on end if I let it.
So far I've tried the following, all to no avail.
Booting in safe mode I get the same result.
    Zapping the Ram
    Resetting the PMU
Reinstalling OS X, during which the computer either randomly shuts down or goes to sleep and then shuts down and requires me to reset the PMU in order to start again.
Running the hardware diagnosis. I did this once and it froze during the logic board test, 1 minute 6 seconds in to it.
Anyone have any ideas that don't involve spending 900 dollars on a logic board? Thanks a lot for any help.

joeuu, thanks for the reply. i checked the airport and the ram and both seem to be seated properly.
i ran the quick hardware diagnosis and it came back showing everything was fine.
when i ran the extended one i got more progress than i did the first time. it got to the RAM diagnosis (about 6:45 seconds in) and then froze - i let it sit like this for an hour and a half to make sure it was actually frozen.
i also tried to run the disc utility from the installation disc and it just sits there with the progress wheel spinning, but nothing else is going on.

  • NAND script and won't load past apple screen

My I phone 5 has crashed won't load past apple screen and has a list of NAND scripts can anyone help or had this happen

    Standard troubleshooting...
    1. Remove apps from the Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
    - Press the home button when done.
    2. Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider.  Slide to power off.  Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
    3. Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    4. Restore with your backup.
    5. Restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.    You may need to try DFU mode (Google for it).
    6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

  • MacBook won't load past the gray apple screen, what do I do?

A few months ago my cat peed on my computer and despite the battery no longer working the computer its self continued working fine after letting it sit a few days.
A few weeks ago I accidentally unplugged it form the wall forcefully turning it off, when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't go past the gray apple logo with the spinning pinwheel.
I've tried to troubleshooting it numerous times but even after letting it safe boot all night I came to no avail.
All the suggestions I've gotten on other sites say I sould re-install the OSX server, the problem being I don't know how, or which OSX I have, they also say the memory will probably be erased, I can't have this happen because I have many things I wrote on there that I have no where else. I bought this laptop in the first few days of 2009.
What do I do without erasing the memory?

    Hello,
Could someone help me, please? I apologize for the long message but I want to be as detailed as possible.
My MacBook (purchased early 2006, white 13", upgraded to Leopard about a year ago with no problems until now) will not boot past the grey screen and spinning wheel.
Here' are the list of 6 steps I've followed so far and still is not working. Oh, and I do not have any peripherals attached to my MacBook:
    1. Reboot in Safe Mode: tried pressing down the Shift key before the powering up sound AND after the sound. Could not get into Safe Mode. Did this several times, holding the Shift key for as much as a minute or two. Nothing but grey screen and spinning wheel.
    2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM: CMDR+POption: Computer restarted but still goes into Grey Screen, spinning wheel and stays there forever.
    3. CMD +S: I read this online. Gave me a black screen with a lot of information, but I don't know how to read the computer jargon, let alone know what to do with said info.
    4. Disk Utility Repair Disk : Inserted my Leopard install disk. Went to Utility Disk. Performed a Repair Disk and I did get two error messages, something related to id 70000452 should be id 70000450 ( I'm sorry to say I cannot remember the exact error messages). But it showed as repaired. When I did a 2nd Repair Disk, I got the message that the volume appears to be OK. Turned off and on again, nothing but grey screen and wheel.
    5. Disk Utility Repair Disk Permissions: got several error messages and this time some could not be repaired:
    -Permissions differ on system/library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents.... should be -rw-rw-r-- , they are lrw-rw-r--
I got this about 4 times.
-Permissions differ on System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Versions/a/Resources/ DiskManagementTool has been modified and will not be repaired.
-Permissions differ on System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resou rces/Locum has been modified and will not be repaired.
-SIUD file has been modified and cannot be repaired also shows twice.
I've read that these messages can be ignored. Is this true? I verified permissions after that, rebooted and still the same grey screen and wheel.
    6. FINALLY: I tried to hook a FireWire from my notebook to my sis, iMac, and see if my HD shows up on hers so I can try to copy and save my pics and music. I was then planning to Erase and Reinstall. But my HD doesn't show up. I turned off both Macs and turned on, pressing T on my Notebook so it acts as a drive, but nothing shows up on my sis iMac. What am I doing wrong here?
And if it cannot be repaired, what do I do?
I'm an amateur photographer and would like to save all my pics, as well as my iTunes music. Much of everything else is just docs, and I think I backed the docs up, but not iTunes or the pics lately (not enough memory available in my flash drive). It also means I do not have a lot of RAM available (I know, I should've bought an external hard drive :o) to perform an Archive and Install.
Can I save my pics and music? Is it all lost? Help please?
    Thanks
    Andy

  • Won't load past the apple screen after a while it says "restart computer"

It doesn't have a battery or a airport card would that be the issue

More than likely the logic board is toast. In that case it would be cheaper to buy a pre-owned MacBook. If you kept the disks that were included when the computer was bought new, one of them includes the Apple Hardware Test. Use that to tell you what's wrong with the computer....
    Good luck!

  • Satellite A100 has a black screen and won't load into the Bios

I bought a Satellite A100 - (model psaa8c-0fh00e) about 5 months ago. it was left on over night which is not uncommon and when i came back to use it about 15 hours later it was just a black screen. moved the touch screen and its keys and nothing happened. so i cold boot it and it turned off. i then turned it back on like normal and the notebook turns on but the screen is completely black. it's not even loading the normal Toshiba Bios screen.
Now my question: is if there is any way I can fix this, i am familar with computer and parts. I just don't get this one cause i've never had to reflash the bois or anything like that. I'm just not sure how to turn and i really don't wanna have to take it into a shop, any suggestions would be helpful.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Conrad,
If your A100 powers on normally (HDD spinning, optical drive LED flickers, fans turn etc.) then I would suspect that your LCD or FL Inverter has failed. You can check this by connecting an external monitor to the notebook to see if that shows the normal display.
On the other hand if there is no activity at all from tour notebook when you power it on then I would imagine you have an internal hardware fault, possibly the main board, which will need to be checked by a Toshiba Authorised Service Partner since the unit will still be covered by the warranty if it is only 5 months old.

I have been using FCPX for about 3 months now and I have had no problems. Out of NOWHERE today when I tried to open up FCPX it loads everything except for one project and it gets stuck. The start-up screen simply says "reading project 1". I have no idea what to do. I use FCPX everyday for editing videos and now I have nothing. I need someone's help.

  • My computer won't load past the Gray screen with the apple, what do I do?

Does anyone know how to get my computer to turn on? I used it on Friday and had a normal shut down but when I went to turn it on yesterday, it gets the the gray screen with the apple and the loading bar and loads half way and then just stops and sits there until it eventually shuts itself off. I have tried turning it off and then back on and holding the D key but nothing happened.

Resetting SMC as well as NVRAM(PRAM) could solve the problem.

  • MacBook won't load past the white startup screen.

I'm going to start off by saying I'm a huge idiot.
My MacBook was being sluggish last night, so I (impatiently) force-turned it off. Whenever I turn it back on, I get stuck at the white screen for about 10 minutes and the Apple logo never loads. I must've made the harddrive corrupt by turning it off while it was doing some important background work.
Is there any way I can fix this? The data on there isn't important as I have my course work backed up, I just need it up and running for class tomorrow. Can I wipe the harddrive and do a clean install somehow?
    Hopefully someone can help.
Edit: I managed to open Disc Utility with my Mac OS X 10.6 disc, and I can't even see my harddrive located anywhere.

Sorry for the double post, but I can no longer edit the main one.
I heard the most gut-wrenching sound when I held "Alt" to get to my partition, so I opened my MacBook up, removed the harddrive and reinserted it. I'm not sure if it was the harddrive that produced the noise, or the installation disc.
Now I can see my Harddrive located in Disk Utility

My Harddrive is fried and I need to look for a replacement. Could anyone point me in the right direction? My Macbook is really old I've even forgotten the type! It's a Black MacBook from around 2006 or 7 is my best guess. What harddrive would fit?

  • Computer won't load past the password screen

When I turn on my computer, it immediately goes to the screen where I enter my password. I enter my password, and it goes to a gray screen where there is a progress loading bar. The bar loads about 1/4 of the way and the computer just shuts down. I can't restart it in safe mode, and I even tried to re-install Yosemite, and I can't do that either. I have no other id

  • Windows 7 won't load past the welcome screen

I'm trying to boot up my laptop but it keeps hanging on the welcome screen. I go through the password page and then it just sticks on the welcome screen with the little spinning circle. It does the same in safe mode but the circle is completely frozen
on the welcome screen and then it gets no further. I don't have a windows recovery CD. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I suggest boot into Recovery Console to perform System Restore to test the issue.
    1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer using the computer's power button.
    2. Do one of the following:
If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windowslogo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon
prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.
    3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press Enter. (If Repair your computer isn't listed as an option, then your computer
doesn't include preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has turned them off.)
    4. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.
    5. On the System Recovery Options menu, click
    System Restore.

  • My macbook pro won't load past the opening screen

i was using my macbook pro last night and it just froze, i turned it off and then tried to restart it. while restarting, i noticed that the screen had not changed for a couple of minutes. it was the screen when you first turn your computer on, before you log onto a user. i waited for about an hour and the screen wouldnt change. i've tried restarting it. nothing is working. any ideas?

Well, it would depend if your HDD has died. If you don't have a backup that would be unfortunate.
First, go grab your original install disk, stick it in, and restart & hold the C key.
That will bring up the install screen.
    Select your Language.
Then go up the top to Utilities > Disk Utility > Repair Disk + Repair Permissions
Please take note of any errors it repairs / does not repair.
