Apple Texas Holdem 1.1 update and loss of statistics - BEWARE!

All, I recently tried to update the Apple Texas Holdem from 1.0 to 1.1 and was not successful. I have an original iphone and upon first sync after downloading the updates (2 other apps as well) via iTunes, my iPhone crashed and rebooted. I then started to sync again and afterwards, Texas Holdem was no longer installed. I checked the Apps tab in iTunes and it was unchecked for some reason! After checking it, the new version was installed but all statistics were gone I'm very upset as I had just recently won a $500K in Aruba. Does anyone know if there is a way to get those statistics back? I tried re-installing the v1.0 file but that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.
For those of you considering this update, beware you may loose your statistics. You'd think Apple would have a way of preserving them, no matter what happens during the update since it is their app but apparently the issues with version 2.0 of the iPhone OS continue to plague everything, even their apps. Steve Jobs, if you read this, please give us the 2.1 update soon to help prevent these problems. They are really annonying and now I'm considering not updating any apps until the next OS release is out. Thanks.

Well, after performing a little more research, I think I know why this occurred. When the iphone crashed due to an app being updated via iTunes (I think it was NowPlaying), the Texas Holdem app was not selected in the sync applications tab upon reboot. When the iphone rebooted, I didn't check the applications tab and just re-synced. That caused the Texas Holdem app to be deleted from the iphone (and all the statistics as well). After playing a few games last night and then upgrading to version 1.1, my statistics were still saved.
So, this probably won't affect everyone but be careful when you sync to upgrade any app and make sure the app is selected in the applications tab first. It would probably help to also make a backup before upgrading any app and sync up iTunes with the iphone. This doesn't help me much but hopefully it will help someone else. Hopefully Apple will fix this issue very soon as updating any app shouldn't be this difficult.

  • My Apple TV stalled during an update and now just shows an image of it being plugged into a USB. It won't complete the update and does nothing when I plug it into my Mac via USB.

2 Apple TVs. The first won't reboot, it stalled during an update and now shows a picture of a UBS plug. Ive tried to plug into my computer, nothing happens. At a standtill.
The second Apple TV works but only if I send something via Airplay. The remote no longer has any affect. The light on the front of the Apple TV blinks when I push a buttom on the remote but nothing happens.
Any Ideas? I am starting to think I need to replace them. Thanks.

Ok, with itunes open on the pc, plug one end of the usb cord into the computer, but not connected to the ipad.
now, press the power button on the ipad until it turns off.
Then, press and hold the home button on the ipad at the same you plug the usb cord into the ipad. DON'T LET GO OF THE HOME BUTTON.
Keep holding the home button until you see the recovery mode message pop on the itunes window.
When that happens, you should now be able to restore.

  • Apple iOS 7 app auto updates and supervised devices

I'm in the process of deploying a small number of iPads to our internal users, we had a question around automatic app updates in iOS 7. It would be nice if these devices were able to pull app updates down and install them automatically, but there are 2 problems with this for us. The first is that an itunes account was used to aquire a few free apps, these apps were then installed via configurator, but we will not be signing in to this account on the device. Default behavior unless a supervised iPad is plugged into itunes or signed in manually is to leave the apple id field blank, will updates install without an apple id on the device? Also, if a user signs in to there perosnal apple id will automatic updates download for an app downloaded with a different apple id? Second, were removing the app store from the device, but allowing apps to be installed. This should in theory allow updates to be installed automatically on the device, however we are unsure if this is the case. Does the app store need to be enabled for the device to check in? or does automatic updating happen regardless?

I can now confirm the apple technician was incorrect. Auto updates WILL NOT install on a device that does not have an apple id signed into it. I've done as much testing as I could with and without signing in and none of the multiple devices I have will automatically download updates until I sign in to the account the app was purchased under. Ultimately this is new for apple, and in addition to that this scenario is faced by very few customers managing these devices So i understand getting this information incorrect. This post is more or less a warning to anyone managing supervised ipads where applications are being installed and no apple id associated with the device, dont rely on automatic updates to keep your apps up to date; you will either have to sign into the ipad and turn on automatic updating, or manually install each update via configurator when they are released.

I have set up an id, however everytime I click to update apps it comes up with my friends old id. How do I change this so I can update my apps?

It sounds like the apps were purchased by your friend.  You will need to buy your own apps.

  • Appleworks updating and loss of fonts?

I have Appleworks 6.2.4 and the application has over 150 fonts. I want to update to 6.2.9 but this apparently has only 50 fonts. I do not want to lose anything so can I burn my present fonts and add them when the updater is installed?
If yes, how do I go about it? I know I have to gather fonts from library, system folder, etc. but where and how do I place them in the installed 6.2.9.
    Any help hugely appreciated.

The error message means it can't find a copy of AppleWorks for that updater to update. The most common reason is that the language of the updater doesn't match the language of the installed version of AppleWorks 6. This particularly applies to the two English versions. There are several websites with links to incorrect updaters. The most reliable link is at this page where you can choose the appropriate updater for your AppleWorks 6 installation. Since you are in Chicago & you got the message saying the updater couldn't find the International English AppleWorks, you need the North American English updater, the top one on the linked page.

What you an run on the iPad comes from the app store, and that's where you to go update it. Tap on your app store icon, go to the updates tab and you'll see any applicable updates to your device.

  • Texas Holdem King 2 gone after Update

Hi everybody, i have updated my bb os from version 4.6 to 5 with the desktop manager. of course i saved the device settings and apps before i updated the device. everything seemed to be fine, but after the update my favorite game Texas Holdem King 2, which was already installed on my bb, was gone. and Soduko too, but thats not so important. So my question know... is there any way to get this game back to my device without paying for it? I mean i had it already on my bb and saved everything before the update, how can i get it back? thx in advance surfpunk77

    Hey.
Open your desktop software > connect your phone > click on 'Applications' > Wait for the list to populate > scroll through the list to see if the games are listed there. If they ARE listed and have a plus sign (+) next to it (on the right), that means you can click the + sign to add it back to your device. Click 'Apply'. That should add the games back to your device.
If the games arnt listed when you click on 'Applications', try using restoring them from and older back up youve done. You can select certain things to restore (eg games), and not everything you did back up originally.

  • Last night I did an update and now when I turn on my macbook it just goes to the white screen with the apple and stays like that.

Last night I did an update and now when I turn on my macbook it just goes to the white screen with the apple and stays like that. How do I fix this issue?

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
