Apple Trailer Slow Bandwidth?

Hello, I have been trying to watch HD content from apple's site but I have to wait an ample amount of time for it to buffer before playing. I have a 10mb connection but I only show apple using 3mb-5mb of it. hmmm, is this the case for anyone else?

all i really want to know is if other people notice the HD trailers downloading slower than the their ability to get them. 10MB isn't so special anymore, only 1 mile from me people can get 30MB fios, but I still cant get it eventhough verizon has been working on my street for like 4 months messing with the fiber lines.
anyways, i took the trouble to get the ip addresses of each HD trailer I watch. this is my notes below and it appears to me they come from the same domain, apple. and it seems some movies are permissioned to use more bandwidth than others seeming one move gets 10MB and another gets 4MB on the same exact IP server. so you are very wrong then

  • Multiple (but separate) domain problem & Apple's slow and useless response

I am having problem with multiple (but separate) domain. I opened a ticket.
Here is Apple's slow and useless response and my follow up.
This follow up is not going to resolve the issues I am having. The sites are not in one domain file. I have split them into separate domains. I found that the simplest change to any page made the publishing process extremely and reasonably slow. If I updated a single site, iWeb republishes the whole conglomeration; hardly the most efficient way.
I have several directories under the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ directory with separate Domain.sites2 files for each site:
    consultingAM.com
    DarkAssassinMovie.com
    Fuzzy Llama Junior Optimist Club
    GulfportOptimist.com
    OptimistView
    pAwesomeProductions.com
    www.nfdoi.com
With the previous version of iWeb, I navigated to a specific ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ directory, selected the Domain.site file, and opened it. This would open iWeb with the selected domain. Several of the sites have their blog page with the RSS subscribe option.
Once I made the update, all I usually had to do was publish site and all was well. Occasionally, I would have to do a publish all if I changed domains. All in all, I had no problems with publishing once I found the right steps to be able to maintain multiple domains.
Now, using the default publish or publish all process, all I get is the last site I published. In order to get things semi-functional, I published a site, then I would go to iDisk/Web/Sites/ directory, select the folder name for the site I had just published, then copy it or move it to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb directory. This was rather slow and I suspect it is not an approved solution, but it semi-worked. My sites are back up, but they are not fully functional.
Is there anyway to get back to using the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ directory (separate Domain.sites file for each site) process to publish multiple sites? If not, is there any way to suck in the various domains back into one? If that is possible, will it take hours to publish the combined 2-3GB like it did with the previous version?
How do I reverse the 'personal domain' process? I do not want to do this at this time. I just wanted to see what the steps were. I have done the first step, but not the second.
I was glad to see some of the changes made in the upgrade (web widgets, maps, html snippets, theme switching), but I am too happy about the changes made by the upgrade process. In the past, I upgraded my Apple related stuff as soon as it came out. Based on this upgrade, that won't happen again.
It took you guys 5 days to get back to me (during which time several of my sites were down) and I do not believe the information you provided is going to solve my specific problems. I am very disappointed with the results of this upgrade. Clearly there was inadequate testing of this product before it was released. I cannot recall seeing the Apple discussion forums with hundreds of topics and thousands of posts within a week or two of a new release. Apple had to upgrade iWeb in the first week, another poor sign.
Apple is beginning to slip back to the pack; all vendors all below average. Apple is getting more like Microsoft everyday. First Apple delays the release of an OS upgrade so they can concentrate on a freaking phone, now you release software that is so buggy it should be classified as beta at best.
Some of the changes/problem I am seeing since the upgrade (in addition to the problems mentioned previously) are:
layout changes; some of my pages no longer look the same; same of the changes are so bad the pages are unreadable
broken photo pages; some of my photo pages no longer work; some of them have no text or pictures
file/page name changes; why would Apple change the location of the files; now my domains are not pointing right location; special characters (like spaces, ampersands, etc.) are handled differently in this version; specifically, I see that spaces are changed to underscores (_); iWeb used to use '%20' for spaces; what was Apple thinking?
broken 3rd party themes; I know Apple is not responsible for 3rd party themes, but you should certainly be aware that they exist
Based on what I am seeing online, most of the people who are complaining about major iWeb issues are not newbies; based on the technical details in the threads, there are clearly some experienced people who are trying to figure things outw. I have lost many hours trying to figure this mess out. I now have to review hundreds of pages to try get things to look and work the way they did before the upgrade. I have had to handle dozens of phone calls and emails from my viewers and subscribers trying to explain the situation.
I googled 'iweb 08 *****' and got nearly 50,000 hits! I think Apple better get in front of this train before it gets run over.

    Dear David,
I understand that you are experiencing an issue viewing some of your websites published in iWeb:
I have examined all of the published pages and they appear to load and function as expected. If you published your website to .Mac, you can visit it either of these ways:
    - In iWeb, click the Visit button in the lower-left corner.
    - Enter the following URL into a web browser:
    http://web.mac.com/daviddawley/
If you have published more than one website, the URL above will take you to the default website, which is the first website listed in iWeb. To visit another website you have created in iWeb, use the following URL format:
    http://web.mac.com/daviddawley/iWeb/YourSiteName
Using this form, the web addresses for the two sites you mentioned would be:
    http://web.mac.com/daviddawley/iWeb/FuzzyLlamaJuniorOptimist.com

Just got off the phone with Apple Support.  There procedure was the following:
    1.  Go to the Apple TV, select settings, general and scroll down to reset.
    2.  Select reset and then select reset all
Apple TV will go through a restart after the reset and you will have to select your network then log in with your network or Airport Express password.  You will then have to turn on home sharing and It will then ask you for your Apple ID for the iTunes store and then the password.  At this point you may not see your library, because the Apple TV wants you to turn on home sharing on your home computer that is hosting the movie library.  Turn off home sharing on that computer, restart iTunes and turn on home sharing again.  After this is done you should be able to see you library listed under the computer.
After going through these steps, when I select an HD movie from my iTunes library the movie comes up after about a 5 second delay.
Hope this helps!  I am back up for business.

  • Apple TV streaming bandwidth

What speed of internet is required to stream YouTube videos on the apple TV without buffering ?
    Thanks

Buffering will occur no matter what you do. What I assume you are getting at is a case where the playback catches up to the buffer and causes the video to pause. There is no simple answer to that - depend on the file size (not the video length), the server source, and in some cases the file type. The more bandwidth, the less chance of it happening regardless, but you are not going to find a set number. AS for adjusting the quality, that depends on the app used to playback and is typically an automatic function. I don't beleive there is any adjustment for that on AppleTV (but could be wrong), and if there is may not work depending on your video source.
I have a 12mbps DSL connection, and rarely if ever get any pause due to slow buffering on my AppleTV, but see it frequently on a Sony Blue Ray player (both on the same network, and same source, with the source app presumably adjusting quality for connections speed - in this case Netflix, but same general results on YouTube).

  • Time Capsule and SLOW bandwidth with Verizon FIOS?????

Ok I have had verizon FIOS and my time capsule for almost 3 years. All running latest firmware updates (which might be the problem with the TC). For the last couple years it has been a blazing fast setup and I have a ps3, imac, macbook pro, apple tv, iphone, ipad, etc all hooked up to my network.
Then 5 days ago I buy a new Imac and the firmware update for the TC. Now the bandwidth in my house has dropped to crap. I have directly connected to the FIOS router with ethernet and its like 20 megs per second down and10 up, but when I connect my time capsule back up and go from there it is like 4 down and 3 up? It was NEVER like this before....any ideas or suggestions?

    Welcome to the discussion area!
Things were fine before two changes occurred on your network. So, it might be logical to try to isolate one thing or the other to arrive at a possible cause for your network slowdown.
You need to completely power cycle the entire network after you make any change on a network, whether that be adding a new device (the iMac) or making another change (the firmware update).
Power everything off...modem, routers, computers, consoles, printers, etc., the order is not important. Wait 5 minutes. Then power up your modem first and let it run for 5 minutes by itself. Power up the next device connected to the modem (probably your Time Capsule) the same way. Power up the next device the same way, etc. until everything is powered back up.
    What are your results?
If things are still slow, remove one of the things that you changed on your network...the iMac...by powering it off, restarting your network again (the extended power off above is not necessary) and then checking the network again.
    Any change?
If no change on the iMac test, then the other variable on your network is the firmware update. It's unlikely...+but possible+...that the firmware update changed something in the interaction between your Time Capsule and FIOS router, so something is not functioning quite correctly. Things like this can happen with firmware updates because while Apple knows what works among their own products; they cannot know what works in every instance when another product interfaces with one of of theirs.
It should be possible to rollback the firmware on your Time Capsule to the previous version if you want to try that approach. There's no guarantee of course, that this will help either. Post back if you want to try this.

  • Apple TV - Slow Slideshow.

I've selected '2 seconds' in "Time Per Slide' and 'dissolve' in 'Transition' but the images are showing for twice the usual length. 400 images make a 31min25sec show, that equals 4.68 seconds per slide not 2! What's going wrong? Can anyone help?

Does the overall speed limitation of my internet affect the wireless communication between a computer & the wireless Apple TV?
Unless you were streaming the images from the Internet, the speed of your Internet connection does not have anything to do with the speed of your local network.
Question: Will heavy use of the internet slow down the Apple TV slideshow??
    Appreciate any insight on this.
No. They are not directly related.

  • Apple tv slow data rate

HI Guys, i have a problem with one of my Apple TV. I currently have 2 Apple TV and one is having a slow data rate. I have Apple AirPort Time Capsule 2TB (latest gen) with most devices running on wireless connection and I checked the data rate (from the base station) on one Apple TV is showing 65Mbps and on another its showing between 6-13Mbps. The signal reception on both AppleTV is excellent. I have tried unplugging, restarting and restoring the AppleTV with no luck. The model number on this AppleTV is A1427. Any other ideas?

    Hi arustandi,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, one of the Apple TV's has a slow connection. I see you have already done a bit of troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help with the slow connection.

  • Apple TV slow when not connected to internet

I have just purchased an apple TV for watching gopro hd videos while we are fishing.  The gopro videos play load and play almost instantly while at home and I have a access point for my router but when I bring the system to the camp (out in the middle of nowhere, does not have internet hookup) the system becomes very slow to load videos.  At home If i disconnect my access point from the router and try to set it up I get the same problem, Apple TV will see the router and stream it from the computer but unless the Apple TV component is receiveing from a router that is connected to the internet the connection becomes very slow.  Any suggestions.  The router is brand new top of the line and I have just updated all of my software.  This probem only happens when the routeer is broadcasting but not connected to the internet?
    thanks
    Jim

Thanks for the response. I tried several different ActiveX applications like you suggested including: Microsoft Word 12.0 Objects Library Version 2.4,  Microsoft Internet Controls Version 1.1 Internet Explorer IWebBroswerApp, Microsoft Outlook 11.0 Object Library Version 9.2 Application, etc. The only one I could get to exhibit the same behavior as the Excel app was Microsoft Visio 11.0 Type Library Versionn 4.b, and thats because Visio itself opens when I run the Automation Open then Close.
I then tried opening both Excel and Visio seperately by double clicking their link instead of using LabVIEW and ActiveX with the changed TCP/IP settings , and the same behavior was shown; occassinally it would take about 12 sec to open. So it must not be an ActiveX issue but something with Excel and Visio and my computer (since you didn't see the same behavior on yours). I guess I'll have to go searching the web for an answer...
For completeness and to answer your questions, the environment does not have an internet connection (see first post, network created by a computer with a crossover cable to a VXI-11 instrument). Using Windows XP and Office 2003

  • Quicktime won't launch in Safari when click HD videos on Apple Trailer page

    Hi everyone, good day,
Try to search the forum for a similar topic, and cannot find it, I apologize if someone else has already asked this.
I bought my new Macbook Air 11" 2 weeks ago, it worked fine before, but all of a sudden, whenever I go to Apple's Trailer page, and click on the HD videos under "download" tab, which in the past would launch QT and play, but now nothing happens. I waited and waited and QT never launches.
I created a new "CLEAN" account, and did the same, and it works perfectly, QT launched in less than a second when I click on a HD video from the trailer page.
    Any ideas guys and gals?
    Howard

I've got the same problem on a MacBook Air. The "download" links work in Firefox, but not in Safari (latest version).
Guess some links have been broken, just don't know how to fix it.

Is it just me. Others too? Server overloaded by these popular sites.

Sometimes access to the forums is rather quick. Today, the load times have been much slower. Not sure why?
Noticed too, the MacFixit forums tend to be this way too. By contrast, the MacWorld User forums are usually quite responsive. Perhaps their membership base is smaller? (just a guess).
The intial response processed through very quickly - of course! Isn't that how life usually works? Make an issue about something, then watch it behave contrary or opposite to the perspective. No different than trying to find something without success. Once you ask the question, the object magically appears! Must be some quantum weirdness law not yet defined, but easily experienced.

  • Apple TV Slow Connection, Authorizing, Loading, Failure to Connect To iTunes

Very erratic problem. Sometimes say's cannot connect to iTunes store, try again later. Excessive Authorizing times and loading times estimated in hours, slow loading of artwork. While experiencing the problem I tried to AirPlay from iPad which was downloading fine, with no success. I have 75mb up and down Verizon Fios which consistantly tests to over 80mb on iPad using app and iMac using network tests on Safari, even at time of problem. Network speed test on Apple TV shows OK. I use an AirPort Extreme (latest version) in bridge mode to a Verizon router with WiFi off, which I tried on 2.4 and 5 Ghz with the same results. This problem is very annoying considering it is the only means by which I view television. Last time I had the problem I reset the Apple TV, logged out and back into iTunes, tried the plug and unplug thing all in various order with mixed results only to have the problem return the next evening.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Apple server : slow download

Hi, I'd like to know why are apple servers always so slow, two days ago I downloaded iOS 8.1 for my iphone and I add to wait some hours, with a download speed of 100kbs. And now i'm downloading Yosemite and it's the same. And all my friends have this problem with apple servers, even the night it's still slow, anytime of the day. I live in France for more precision. Maybe the problem is only located in my country. And the problem is not from my connection, I can download everything at 2mbps. Except when it's from apple's servers.
    Thanks

I still do many things with iTunes. I still backup my iPad with iTunes. But like I said, doing the OTA updates is great.... far less time consuming because of the size of the downloaded file.
And ... Mrsarcastic ....I do not think that Apple is capping the download speed. Even when I updated from 4.3.5 and had to do it with iTunes - before OTA updates were available - it only took me about 90 minutes - start to finish - to download, install, restore from backup and sync my iPad one - with iOS 5.
