Apple Trailers - not a chance on a clamshell?

When did trailers from Apple stop working on the iBooks?
I have a 466 SE that my son had been using with OSX Tiger, but I have since upgraded him to a G4. My plan is to donate the G3 to my niece, and I was fussing around and noticed that no trailers will play. I remember a couple years ago the "low" quality ones would play just fine and dandy, but now? Neither the "iPod" nor "low" will play in any reasonable way. How is it that this computer can decode DVDs on the fly for playback, but cannot handle the low quality H.264? I wish Apple would go back to the old .mov files for "low".
Is there any way to get these trailers to play?

Have you got Quicktime updated to the latest state? ( Apple Menu > Software Update... > ).
The specs for playing back H264 are high (link). I guess is the processing required to decode H264 versus decoding MPEG2.

Apple trailers not working,.. help needed...

So i have a Sony Vaio with windows 7 and was recently trying to watch trailers apple.com. I have itunes and quicktime on my computer and both work fine. BUT when tried viewing trailer it says i need to have quicktime loaded to see the trailer. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime, had no problems, but still says i need quicktime and will not load trailers.
I have tried leaving it alone for a few days, but still same problem. I've tried loading the page through quicktime, and going through apple, but no trailers will load. any suggestions?

It is Correct for your Current OS = Leopard = 10.5.8
The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x

Quicktime works for Apple QT test page but not for Apple trailers

Hi
I'm using XP Pro SP2. I've installed the latest QT 7.1.3. Looking at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/troubleshooting/
QT works fine. But on going to any of the websites at Apple trailers I just get QT with a question mark logo.
I've read the posts with similar problems but there seem to be no definitive answers.
Is it possible for anyone in Apple to suggest a solution.

If you go to your account page there should be a Downloadable Software Purchases link on the left, and that takes you to a page that should show your QT Pro number.

I have a plug in DVD writer to add my disk Adobe Acrobat onto my Macbook air, however, it says that I can't install as Apple do not support Microsoft programs, any help?

My disk will not install adobe onto my air as they say apple do not support microdot?

It may be worth saying, though you have probably figured it out now, that Mac don't run Windows apps and Windows doesn't run Mac apps. So if you go between them there is every chance that you will have to buy all of your apps again - if they are available on the new computer. This is a big deal and the cost of this should be budgeted in.

Apple Trailers won't play after update to Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard and the only glitch I have encountered is that Apple Trailers will not play. The computer screen darkens and the movie viewer screen pops up, but the viewer screen remains black and no movie appears. I have tried reinstalling Snow Leopard and updating to 10.6.1, but still no trailers. Any idea what's going on and what I should do? Many thanks.

Mine seems fine, but you might post a link to a specific trailer.
It's possible it may be Flash related, some early disks broke Flash.
What version of QuickTime do you have? Which browser are you using?

Apple Trailers question...

Hey guys, I posted this on the Final Cut forum but I thought this might also be viable here since it's also a Quicktime issue.
I was wondering if you could enlighten me with how to get my videos online to stream as fast and as high quality as the movies on the Apple Trailers site.
I know they use h264 settings, but I can't seem to place what bit rate they use, and how they have that fine balance between good quality and fast streaming. I'm pretty sure it has a lot to do with Apple's fast servers, but I was hoping to find a setting in FCP that will let me show my videos online as close to this quality as possible. Youtube quality not an option, it irritates me because a lot of a film's elements are lost in pixelization.
I downloaded a trailer from Apple Trailers and here's the info:
Dimensions: 480x260
Codecs: H.264. AAC. Timecode
Channel Count: 2
Duration: 02'29
File size: 14mb
So as you can see, the bit rate isn't specified.
I have a .mac account and use FCP 4.5 and I'm looking forward to experiment. Hope you guys can help me out. Thanks very much!

I tried using the settings above with 500kbps as my bit rate, and it estimates around 3+ hours to render out (this is a 6 minute film using Final Cut Pro, 1GB of RAM). Does it usually take this long?It sounds excessive to me, but then you have not indicated what source (SD or HD) you are sharting with, what filters may have been applied, whether or not your clip is being "rendered" before conversion, or what mode (single-pass or multi-pass) you are using. For instance, if you have selected multi-pass, then encoding in a single-pass mode may cut your time in half. If you are starting with an HD file and are targeting it for a two thirds of the of the trailer target data rate, then additional iterations are likely required to reduce the data rate to the lower target level. Since you did not say what target dimension you are using, you may be forcing extra iterations to here also. I normally use a 512 Kbits/sec (480 Kbps video + 32 Kbps mono) for a 320 x 240 H.264/AAC Baseline profile encode. Other tricks would be to lower the target size during encode and play the file back at a larger size. Here is a 516 Kbps Sample file if you want to look it over and check out the settings.

I think the problem is only with specific pages on the apple trailers web site and not a bug with the Touch. My iPhone will go to the iPhone formatted pages (/trailers/iphone/fox/hitman) just fine. My coworker's Touch will try to go to the iPhone formatted page, but you can see the screen flash a couple of times and the url changes when it gets redirected to the non-iPhone trailer page. This page doesn't have the mobile Safari compatible version of the trailer. I think the pages that are having problems are not correctly recognizing that you are running mobile Safari. A small bit of information (called a user agent string) about your browser is submitted every time you go to a web page. The iPhone's starts out as "Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U;"... and the Touch's starts out as "Mozila/5.0 (iPod; U;"...
I think the pages you are having problems with are checking to see if the user agent string says "iPhone" in it, which it doesn't, so it redirects to the non-mobile version. Apple needs to change those pages to check to see if it says "iPhone" OR "iPod".

Apple Trailers is no longer an option for me choose?

I have just purchased and installed Apple TV. I had Apple Trailers when first installed, now it is not listed as a feature. Any suggestions?

Embed iFrame Apple Trailers

Hi everyone, thanks for any help on this. I've been seeing apple trailers posted on sites with an iframe embed. The embed has a border with several links, one to the itunes trailers page, the movie page, the gallery, and also social media links including twitter and facebook. I can see the code contains a link for http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/embed/thismovieorthat/index.html if I view the page source.
Is there a place on the trailers.apple.com site that you can find the embed code for a certain trailer?

Thanks for the reply Jon, I threw the code you provided up on the site and it started playing as soon as I loaded the page. It didnt' have any options to pause or move ahead or rewind via a navigation bar. Is this what you see as well?
Yes and no. It depends on your work flow. As I previously stated, I am testing widgets for playbck in an iBooks compatible document on an IOS device. Since the OS environment and player support is thereby very limited, I took the liberty of minimizing the code. Basically, the trailer plays as you describe in the app being used to create the widget. However, since my default browser for previewing the widget project is Safari which, in my case, still has default player support installed on my Mac system, here is what I see when the cursor hovers over the preview player screen:

Am not an HTML programmer, but I assume in your case the problem is in not adapting the code I provided to the specific OS environments and/or player software you are targeting.
I agree, I don't see the embed info on the site. I'm not sure why the info isn't supplied.
Apple may feel it is not necessary to provide such code since the trailers are freely avaiable for download via both QT 7 Pro/QT X Players and iTunes. Which is why I used one for this test widget using the traile'rs URL rather than uploading a downloaded trailer to my own server space as in a previous test. (I.e., this is all a new learning experience for me.)

Apple remote not working

My Apple remote is not working with my MacBook. The Mac OS X 10.5 Help Knowledge Base says to go to Security > Systems > and Disable remote control infrared receiver. I don't have a systems button or box nor the checkbox to Disable remote control infrared receiver. And, my MacBook has an infrared receiver.

I have the same problem. When I update from TIger to Leopard the front row apple remote still working. But is been a long time the last time i used and now on 10.5.2 osx the apple remote not working as I imagine.
I read some answers that help me understand better the problem. My check box of "disable remote.."is unchecked and I saw a "pair" button and try to pair with my apple remote. The tips told me to HOLD "menu" and "next" buttons of apple remote to pair him with computer. And Works fine. So I try to push only Menu button (as I've done so many times on tiger) but still does not working. So I realize the command to "start front row from apple remote" now on Leopard 10.5.2 is MENU+NEXT buttons and does not anymore only menu button. For me works like this.
While I write this answer I try again push and hold only MENU button and after almost 2 or 3 seconds holding button appears on screen an virtual image of my apple remote signaling to replace the battery, may be now will be works only on push menu, but I need to change the battery first.

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

Great, so now I have to airplay it by linking my computer to my Apple TV and then the movie has to buffer! So, all that time I spent downloading the HD video has to technically "download" again by buffering. The more I use Apple TV, the more I feel like this item was not created by Apple. I don't even use it for what I originally purchased it for. If I would have known that anytime I wanted to sync a movie from my computer to Apple TV by using airplay that it would have to buffer the movie, I would have never ever ever ever ever purchased this waste of time device. So the video has to technically play all the way through one time first so Apple TV can "remember" the movie to play it back in real time afterwards.
Am I missing something here? Am I doing something wrong that can be fixing my problem? I should have known that the Apple TV had so many things backwards when simple things like when you are using the remote and you reach the bottom of your list, in order to cycle back to the top of your list you have then press the directional buton back the other way rather than most modern day devices that will automatically cycle you back to the top or to the other side when you reached the bottom or end but keep on pressing the button. That **** annoys me when I am doing a search for a movie and have to type the name in manually and have to cycle back and forth to the letters. It makes me feel like I am using a rotary phone or something!

I was told by someone to try and purchase something directly from my Apple TV and that will help authorize my Apple TV. So I picked something that was free and it downloaded.
Then I went back to the Movie that would not work and it played just fine.
So it seemed to work. I will have to try it on other movies and TV shows later.

I have just updated my iPhone 4 with latest IOS 7 and now wi fi greyed out and Bluetooth not working. Tried reset, restore everything - no use. Its out of warranty too. I refuse to pay for a new phone when clearly this is an apple issue not phone issue.

I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version. I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again. I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again. My blue tooth doesn't work either. I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this. When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue. My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!! I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue. Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it. Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.
