Apple TV 160GB nearly full and so is my iMac - what are my next steps?

well it was inevitable. the 320GB in my iMac is nearly full with video/music and photos. For a while now I have been syncing selectively between my iMac and the apple TV downstairs. Streaming has been too choppy/intermittant for me to consider as a solution.
Can anyone share experiences with either adding a USB drive and moving content to that or having a NAS drive that is mounted to the iMac and using that (at an albiet slower pace)? I know it doesnt fix the space problem on the apple TV but I will live with what I am currently doing.
It's a shame really that ATV doesnt have some sort of "sync on demand" that would load content like a movie rental and kick the oldest video file(s) off the ATV to make room. If it worked with time capsule that would be even cooler.

well why don't you see about working out the kinks in your network, getting it running better and stream... i have gone to streaming only as i couldn't tell the difference at all in play back between a streamed file or a synced one...
there are very knowledgeable people on this board that can give you lots of advice on how to get your network running better.
NAS... i know from personal experience that exernal USBs attached to AirPort Extreme works flawlessly... but there are a whole slew of people who have posted on this board about using other NASs and for whatever reason have big issues in terms of performance that doesn't allow movies to show properly... stutters, stops etc.
*external drives* attached directly to you computer (this is my setup and works flawlessly) i have 2TB of drives attached to my computer where i store primarily movies. what you can do is create a folder on the external for your files... in the finder move them there... in iTunes remove them from the iTunes library (i.e. don't move to trash!).. then when you re-add them to iTunes by dragging them.. press and hold the option key and they will be added to iTunes but not moved into the iTunes Library.. you can move all or just some of your files to the external using this method.

appleTV does have options to sync x number of recent or recently unwatched or all unwatched videos to appleTV if you choose custom sync in iTunes.

If nothing helps, you need to contact Verizon for information for an exchange or refund. This is a user to user forum, not Apple.
Apple's policy for a refund or exchange is within 14 days of purchase. Verizon's policy may be different.
Definitely try restoring .. hopefully you won't have to go through the hassle of an exchange.

Try the excellent shareware application, Graphic Converter. In addition there are many very good photo editing programs for the Mac. Look for them all at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

Maverick OSX update crashed my computer and OS. My harddrive and OSX and WIN have been lost and are irreparable. What are the next steps?

Mavericks has crashed my MacBook Pro.
I was offered the upgrade as a free and reccomended Apple Software Update that arrived on my computer.
I installed Maverick received an error during installation saying the HD was bad. I ran utility disk and internet recovery and attempted to boot in safe mode to no avail. My computer no longer had an OS. (I ran both OSX and WIN on my new HD). I took it to the Apple store and it was determined it was a software failure (Maverick) and not my harddrive. The tech at Apple told me I could take it to a data recovery place on MY dime to attempt to recover anything from the HD. I ran several expensive architectural programs which are now lost. Any advice as which aveneue to take next is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Note, backing up is not a choice in computing. You either value your data or you don't. And when you install new software the drive is that much more at risk, if it is marginal. This is true of any operating system update because of the number of changes that happen at once.

We try to unistall from control panel or helper folder and nothing happens. What are the next step.

We want to upgrade Mozila to a new version. When we try to upgrade from your web site, nothing happens.

I had the same issue. To resolve it, I:
1. Backed up my bookmarks to my desktop;
2. Deleted the Mozilla Firefox folder (in the C:\Program Files folder).
3. Reinstalled Firefox
4. Uninstalled Firefox (to make sure any registry entries that may have been causing problems were removed)
5. Reinstalled Firefox again
6. Imported bookmarks.
7. OPTIONAL: Reinstall any add-ons I regularly use
I no longer have the problems with slow performance or websites hanging that I had after originally upgrading to Firefox 7.
Obviously if you just want to uninstall, you only need to do steps 2 through 4. I wanted to continue using Firefox and was just trying to resolve the issues I was having browsing the web since upgrading to 7.

My HD (SSD) is nearly full and I can't figure out how to free up space.

My HDD is nearly full and "About this Mac" reports I have used 189 Gb under the category of "Other". I don't know how all this space got used up or what its comprised of but I'd like to delete it but can't even locate it to do so.

How are the images stored on your original iPad? Are they in the camera roll, in events downloaded using the camera connection kit, or are they in albums synced to your ipad from a computer?
If the photos are in the camera roll or in events downloaded from a camera, you can transfer them to your iMac and MBA by directly connecting the iPad using USB. Then you can download the photos to iPhoto like from a camera.
Only, if your photos have been synced to the iPad from a computer, you will have to save them first to the camera roll; then you can download them by connecting the iPad via USB.
What IOS version has your iPad?
For new photos you might consider using Photo Stream to transfer your photos between the devices.

No, the film will be available for 30 days, but once you start watching it the clock will start running and it will expire after 24/48hrs (depending on location).
You said you rented on Apple TV, which has no accessible storage. When you choose to watch it starts to cache to the small flash drive, which is then flushed when you access another movie (or any other content). Everything is streamed so it will need to load each time. If you want to store any content you need to do so via computer.
Network issues can also contribute to seeing such an error. If on wifi, try ethernet. Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network). You can also see the status of your network by getting a report (istumbler, netstumbler or similar), to look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks.
Other services use adaptive streaming so they won't be much of an issue.

When you update over the air, the file is downloaded, then expanded on your phone...you need free space to do that. When you update using iTunes, the file is downloaded/expanded on your computer, then applied to your phone. That's the difference.
Either start deleting stuff...or update on your computer.

If you want to be able to view, edit and export from Lightroom you can move the files using your computer OS (explorer or finder) and update the folder location by right-clicking on the folder name in the LR Library. See fig 8 at the attached link:

This will work when the thumb drive is connected.
If you really have no need to keep these files off-line in LR then simply move the files, select all the thumbnails in the LR Library and hit delete. Then choose remove.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
And sorry to report that OSX is more Widows like than ever, but….
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.
