Apple TV 2.3 My Music by Artist

Just updated my Apple TV to the latest software 2.3. Having an issue with listening to music by artist. If I go to My Music by Artist, select an artist with multiple albums the list of Cd's appear. However, the Song count on the CD list is always shows "0 Songs". If I highlight an album, the lower left corner of the screen shows the correct cd information including the correct number of tracks. The problem is I cannot expand the CD and choose the individual songs. I'm certain it may have something to do with the CD list displaying "0 Songs".
I've restored my ATV to factory defaults. I have the latest version of iTunes 8.0.2.20. I've reinstalled the ATV 2.3 upgrade and synced my library. Same results.
Is this just me or is anyone else having this issue?
Any suggestions on a possible problem with my iTunes library? I also created a new library and moved my music from it's previous location. I thought maybe my library was corrupt causing problems with the ATV. The problem still persists. I can access the songs. It's a minor inconvenience, I like to view my music by artist. Otherwise I can play my music by playlists, albums, compilations, songs, genres... etc.
Thanks,
Jim

I think I have figured out what the Apple developers were doing which has lead to this problem.
Previously, if you had a compilation CD copied and each track had the appropriate Artist tag set but the Album Artist tag was unset (i.e. no text), then you would see each Artist listed in My Music -> Artists. If you then selected that Artist name to see what music was available for that artist, you would see the whole album and not just the tracks for that one artist. This was a real pain to find the track for that artist. With update 2.3 you now only see the tracks for that artist, as it should be.
So I think the Apple developers were doing this for the right reason, just didn't take into account if both the Album Artist and Artist tags are set.
Question: Who does Apple use to test these updates before releasing them publicly?
The reason I ask, is that it would seem to me that Apple don't use 'real users' as some of the issues reported on this forum would be picked up prior to release if they were. I assume Apple use 'testers' who probably don't have an Apple TV at home. I would be more than happy to become a tester for Apple and provide positive feedback, as I'm sure there will be others too on this forum.
If anyone can add to this, I would be happy to hear, as I'm sure there could be something I've missed.

    Hi Gary gar,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the options at the bottom of the Music application may have been edited. You can click the More section on the far right, then choose Edit in the top right. You can then drag any options you want to that bottom bar and rearrange them.

Tired of tapping More? To rearrange the buttons, tap More, then tap Edit and drag a button onto the one you want to replace.

  • Why Doesn't iPod Classuc Display Music by Artist & Year?

I have a problem I'm wondering why Apple hasn't addressed this yet. I have all of my music separated by Artist and by Album. I've even went so far as to properly enter in the year that the album was released yet the iPod Classic still refuses to display my music in the order in which it was released.
Meaning ... I have several artists on my iPod and each artist has several albums. However, no matter if you enter in the "year" the album was released in it's ID3 tags (using the iTunes software), the iPod Classic will only display your music by Artist and then it will only list the albums in alphabetical order, not in order by year.
In order to get my music to display by Artist and then by Year, I have to enter the year in the album's name:
    (1980) Best Hits
    (1981) Year of the Dragon
I think it bites that Apple can't fix this problem.

    What a spectacularly rude individual.
The point was no one can give you any help on this except Apple, they would have to alter the iPod interface to do this, hence the link to feedback. Thought I would save some words and just point you that way. In the future I'm not going to touch a key to even do that, but I think your current work around is as close as you are going to get.

  • How do i find which Apple ID is associated with music in my iTunes? When I sync with my iPad and iPhone it tells me I have music, apps etc from more than five IDs. I am asked for PW for a number of now extinct accounts.

Go to Settings/icloud. The Apple ID at the top of the screen is the only one you need to be concerned about. That one MUST be a working ID, and you must know the password for it, or you will be unable to use the phone if it ever crashes, you want to update it, or you want to sell it.

My iPod has music and apps from my apple ID that I downloaded to my iPod via iCloud and some apps that I got free from the store, straight onto my iPod, but my laptop has some music on it aswell, separate from my other library. I want to put the music from my laptop into my iTunes library which I want to use on both computers. Is it possible to do this?
    Thanks.

    - You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy.

To downgrade, you'll need to download the previous software version here: ATV3 http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4361.20120605.grjot/AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
    ATV2: http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4362.20120605.t8i4U/AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
Next, plug the Apple TV into your computer with a micro-usb cable (most phones today use these) and start up Itunes. It should detect the Apple TV in recovery.
After that, hold down Option on Apple or Alt on Windows and click Restore. This should open a window that allows you to select the software update you want to apply. Select the one you downloaded earlier.
It will then go through the restore process, which takes only a few minutes, and then you will be able to plug the Apple TV back in to your display and set it up again.
I recently ran into a similar issue with a bunch of these things and after restoring them all to the previous software version they are working again.

  • Can I change my verified primary email address associated with my apple id? I don't want to change my apple id as I have music/apps associated with it.  My current email will be changing soon.

Can I change my verified primary email address that is currently associated with my apple id?  I don't want to change my apple id because I have music and apps assoicated with it.  I tired following some of the posts that shows going to an apple dialog that allows you to update your apple id and primary email separately, but when I try doing it I get a dialog that says I can update my apple id and my primary email.  I don't want to change my apple id only my primary email.  Anyone have any suggestions?  That email is going away soon.  Thanks for any help.

Did you change the email for the Apple ID or did you create a new Apple ID? A new Apple ID cannot be used with content that was bought using a different Apple ID.

This is the iTunes for Windows forum...
    You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup! (Windows tip). For a Mac use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folder within the artist folder.

How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folders within the artist folder and itunes moves the track/s whenever i try and load selected music to my ipod/iphone. I've tried to find some sort of preference to prevent this, but no joy? What am I missing?

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

  • Which portable apple product is best for music quality

My old 8 gig nano died, and I have a 3rd generation ipod touch that's a bit slow to respond.  I want a faster Apple product to listen to music, specifically AIFF encoded files for meditation.  I have a 10.6.8 Mac and Itunes 10 (Do not care for v11) and between the 4th and 5th generation iPod touch, Ipad Mini, or iPhone, which of those devices is best for playing 1 hour long AIFF files? Thanks.

many of the portable dvd players have what is called ipod docking, which means it "slips" into a recessed area. This omits the need for any cables.

When I play movies on my apple tv I can hear music, sound effects but no dialog from characters - no voices

Push and hold the select button on the remote while the content is playing.  You should get an audio options menu.  Guessing you selected one of the the secondary audio track options by mistake somewhere.

If i uninstall AMDS, iTunes and all Apple softwares, will all the music i currently have in iTunes delete.., or will it download itself back into the new iTunes?

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall does not touch your content. That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a backup in case of disasters.

  • When is apple going to fix the music app?

When is apple going to fix the music app?

Your right!! I should have given details.
I don't like the new music app for iOS 5.
You need to constantly use iTunes to change play list content etc.
Podcasts won't play in a loop.
Even the iPhone has more control in the music app.
I wish Apple had given more music tools instead of removing them.
I am having a hard time finding the feedback form. Can you help with a link?
I'll bookmark it for future use.
    Thanks
