Apple tv 2 and airplay only registering as speakers.
Help apple tv setup fantastic streams my iTunes media from my mac pro upstairs fine. Having major problems trying to stream video from my iPad and iPhone 4.
All my iPad and iPhone only recognise my apple tv as speakers and not a screen. So all it will stream is music or the sound from the video.
Not a major problem, just annoying as if I download a film on my iPad or phone I have to sync and transfer the new purchases to my mac pro to then have to stream from my iTunes on the mac.
All the ads etc show that I should be able to start watching and then stream to. ATV2 and specs say the same. But I can't seem to solve the problem? Any help would be appreciated and many thanks in advance.

iTunes library all works ok, auuuggghhhh so frustrating. All software updates completed as it appears the most common suggestion.

I had the same problem.
Try updating the software on you Apple TV. It should now give you the option to turn on Airplay under settings rather than just Airplay speakers.
I was able to steam video from my iPad after doing this, although when you do this the video only displays on the TV and not on the iPad display (which is different from the promo video.... I guess this is a work in progress.

Ok so I've read numerous threads and troubleshooting on this subject and it seems to be a running theme.
So I'll start with my issues
My Apple TV has a hard time consistently streaming netflix or connecting with airPlay (unless I am playing something off of YouTube or showing pictures)
The audio is patchy
TV and movies won't load
No error sign shows up the wheel keeps spinning
My tv and phone have both been updated
I've tried restarting numerous times
My Apple TV is literally right on top of the wireless modem
The signal strength is strong on all devices
I've tried unplugging my modem
I've tried air playing itunes, soundcloud, 8tracks and grooveshark but only YouTube works consistently without fail
My netflix is not logged in to any other devices
However When I do log on with other ones (my computer or ipad) it works fine
Even when nothing else is on the wifi network I still have trouble
-Sometimes- it works fine but I don't know why as I haven't done anything different
And it's not just this appleTV, I have a second one that responds in the same fashion
Any ideas short of physically connecting the appleTV directly into the modem?That would indicate a network issue, typically interference. You should not have the ATV sitting on top of any device. Signal test on the device won't give an accurate indication, you need to go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report.

iPad Air and windows PCapple will not merge your accounts.... you will need to pick one and use it and change password..if you can't pick one then just make a whole new account and just let the others float away into the apple space.. but take out the credit card info so that shady husband can't use it... you can google "manage my apple id" and it will let you log in and change stuff.

Apple TV / iOS and AirPlay is intermittent after updates.
Background:
Home network with Airport Extreme, Apple TV, 2 MacBook Pro's, 2 iPads and an iPhone. Everything works together great, just as it should. I can play music from either the laptops or iPads over my house system via Apple TV. AirPlay is great.
10/12/11 - Update to iOS 5, Lion 10.7.2 and ATV 4.4
Much like many others posting here, my AirPlay connection is intermittent. Sometimes it work, sometimes it stops (no AP icon). Restarting Apple TV generally solves this, and the icon re-appears and AP works for a while, until it decides to stop. This is most apparent with the iPad - ATV connection. So, it appears there is a bug somewhere, if I had to guess, I would say that it's Apple TV. But maybe it's iOS. Hope Apple fixes this soon.
If you are experiencing the same - post here - hopefully Apple engineers will see this and look into it.
If someone has other suggestions for me, I welcome them in advance.
Thanks!My understanding is that 4.4 is fine (it certainly is for me) once installed, and that the problem if it occured was with installation and not using it.
Your problem to me sounds like interference.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel. -

I have two different apple ID`s and yesterday I have FB update and from app store wanted to sign in with the ID form iPod Touch 4 how to fix it? I want to use my current Apple ID not the old one. My 128 Gb iPad cannot do airplay mirroring with Apple TV 3. It only airplays with screen off (like iPad 1), and it can only do airplay with apps which have the airplay button. No airplay button when sliding the bottom opened apps to the right! Note : This problem persists after HDMI cable has been changed, and Apple TV was reset. My another iPad 4 64Gb also on the same most updated ISO has no problem.
I restarted the iPad, it is okay now! I think it is because I have been using the smart cover for too long, without shutting down the iPad completely! It just works fine with the airplay signal appearing again after restarting the iPad.

Hi, I have a mac book pro running mavericks and recently tried to connect to a 3rd gen apple tv but the airplay icon is not showing up in the top bar. I then tried my girlfriends laptop running mountain lion and it showed up straight away. Any suggestions?
How old is the MacBook Pro? AirPlay is only supported on 2011 and newer models, due to the requirements it has in hardware for graphics acceleration.

My Ipad will show all regular inbound calls, from Iphone, as Facetime calls. I would like only TRUE facetime calls to appear. I have switched audio/video on Ipad but it still happens. How can I set the Ipad to only register only true FT calls rather than all inbound calls that a re not facetime calls? Yes, you may have to reread this twice and slowly to understand..... Thanks!

Apple tv stutters when airplaying music and movies
I'm unable to utilize the airplay feature in itunes to watch movies or listen to music though Apple tv. I've fooled around with my router and updated the firmware, I'm using all of the updates available to me with the exception of upgrading to mountain lion. I never had these problems until I upgraded my phone and ipad to ios6. Does anyone have a good starting point for troubleshooting this problem?

Yes they do.
They origialnally played just fine. I moved my entire iTunes library to a new computer and now only 62 songs, out of over 2000, and two of four movies won't sync. All songs and movies are in same folders and same format.
I already selected "keep iTunes media folder organized" and "copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library"
using iTunes 10.7 and OSX 10.8.2 -

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
Restart your mobile device. -

I have 2 Apple TV 3's, each with a unique name. One located in the lounge, the other in a bedroom. Subsequently each named "Lounge" and "Bedroom".
I have run the same network and devices for almost 2 years, except for the addition of the iPad Air 2 and the iPhone 6. Apple TVs were on OS 6.x until the release of OS 7.x. During the period of OS 6.x i never ever had an issue with AirPlay from any Mac or iOS device. Which include MacBooks, Mac Minis, iPods, iPhones, iPads.
One Apple TV is connected via ethernet, the other is via WiFi (1 wall away which shows full signal when checked each time).
So i decided to update to OS 7.x when it came out and then i have been plagued with problems ever since, through each update 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2 and 7.0.3.
There is three main problems with these 2 devices as a result of 7.x.
1 - Each Apple TV changes its name at random in regards to the number, one might be "Lounge" for a moment, the next it will be "Lounge (2)" or "Lounge (3)" and so on, usually reverting to "Lounge (2)", either during use or sleep mode.
2 - 90% of the time they will not wake from sleep for the AirPlay function from iPhone 6 on iOS 8.1.3, iPad Air 2 on iOS 8.1.3 or Mac Mini on Yosemite 10.10.2
3 - When it finally does wake, there are constant AirPlay drop outs, most of the time the AirPlay link will drop and some times disappear off the AirPlay devices list right afterwards.
Both Apple TVs produce the same issues, time and time again, i have restored them completely twice each, i have had one replaced for these issues under warranty, yet these issues still remain.
I have tried them on 4 different networks, i have even replaced my modem/router as part of this problem, and still these issues remain.
I even set up via a test with a personal hotspot from one of my iPads, so all i had was an Apple tv, iPad and iPhone on this wifi hotspot, the same issues were present there also.
During this time i have had iPad, iPhone and Mac complete restores for other issues which rules out issues with them i would like to think.
I have even tried AirPlay stability from my older iPhones, iPads and iPhones on iOS 6 and 7 - the same issues are present there also.
I have had many many cases with Apple Care opened, each case gets me no closer to solving generally because the "Senior Advisor" appointed to the case never responds to me after getting off the phone, despite them emailing me with their contact details to "follow up the case" so i don't feel any more efforts there will get me any closer at this point.
I have exhausted many options with no success.
Does anyone else have these same issues?
Has anyone ever found a fix?
Has anyone got any other methods of diagnosing the root cause of this?

I’m using the latest versions of Beamer, Apple TV and OS X. It’s some weeks that when I drag a movie into Beamer it doesn’t connect automatically to my Apple TV as before: instead, I have to click the Share button and select the Apple TV, then everything goes fine as usual. I haven’t changed any settings, so it should “Connect and Pause” automatically as before.
I’ve also noticed that my Apple TV’s name displayed in Beamer when I click the Share button has changed from the original one (“Miller Apple TV”) to “Miller Apple TV (2)”. I don’t know why there’s this (2) in the displayed name. It’s like Beamer sees 2 Apple TVs named the same way and so it has to add (2) to the other one. But there’s only this Apple TV and the name of the Apple TV itself is always “Miller Apple TV”.
These 2 things (auto-connect not working any more and (2) added to Apple TV’s name) have happened together. It’s like Beamer doesn’t connect automatically anymore to “Miller Apple TV” because there’s another Apple TV named the same way and so it doesn’t know where to connect. I'm in touch with Beamer support but after looking your post I'm now thinking that the problem is more related to the Apple TV than to Beamer. -

What should I try to fix the problem?I think i found the solution. I got mine working.
Reboot the iPad by holding down the Home button and power button at the same time for 6 seconds. The screen will turn black, apple logo will appear, and it will restart.
Then restart the Apple TV. (I just unplugged the power)
Then restart your wireless router. (again, I just pulled the plug on it)
After doing that, i tried the mirroring again, and it worked great. As soon as I turned it on, it appeared on my TV and is working very quickly. (well, everything I do on the iPad is delayed on the TV by half a second) -

Did you try to change the location in Settings/iTunes & AppStore/AppleID -> view Apple ID, log in ->Country/Region -> India?

I need some help I set my IPhone up yesterday and now I am trying to set up my IPad but I only have one Itunes account and one email but the IPad error message states "The apple ID is already being used" I dont know how to get passed this and my family and I only have one account and we all have IPhones now I dont want them to update if we cant all use the same account. I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.
To do this I will need a 2x1 HDMI splitter or a 2x1 HDMI auto switch (preferred).
