Apple TV, 2 iphones (4s), 1 ipad - which setup is best?

I am an apple noob and need help setting up all our devices. My husband currently has an iphone 4s, but he has not bought much iTunes content yet, while we wait to try and see the best way to set all our devices up for synching, etc. I just bought him an Apple TV 3. I plan to buy an iphone 4s and the new ipad in the next couple weeks. I want to set them up where we can share music and apps on all our devices but not contacts, messages, etc. Our laptop is not apple. My questions is what is the best way to do this, since we are just now making the switch to everything apple.
Could we have separte Apple IDs and separate iCloud IDs for everything we want to keep separate, then setup a shared Apple ID for itunes purchases that we want to mingle? Can you use your Apple TV with different Apple IDs? Which one Apple ID/iTunes would the Apple TV automatically load when you start using it?
I assume on the ipad we would just use the shared Apple ID. How should we then setup Home Sharing?
Ok, that is a lot of questions. But I want to try to wrap my head around the best way to share items before we set anything up.

Yes you can each use a separate ID for iCloud (which deals with mail, contacts, calendars etc) and both use the same ID for iTunes, (which handles music, movies, apps, books etc) indeed this is what I would recommend in a family situation.
When it comes to the Apple TV, it doesn't actually matter whether you both use the same ID for iTunes or use different IDs, Apple TV will be able to connect to both libraries and use them both. You will however only be able to use one ID for purchases from the Apple TV itself. You will also only be able to use the Apple TV to connect to one of your photo streams, if you each have your own ID for iCloud.

Try this:
Open the "Find my iPhone" app on your iPad, fill in your AppleID and password at the start up screen, and you should see a list of all your devices and their current location, if connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network. Devices not connected will be shown as "offline". But you can still trap on the icon and hit "erase iPhone" in the right hand window.
If your iPhone is not listed, you did not activate this feature during the setup of the phone and it can't be erased remotely.
If the phone is listed, even as offline, tap on "erase" to send the erase command. The next time your device will be connected to any kind of network, the content will be erased.

When you have multi iphones and multi ipads, is it really best to have separate itunes accounts. My husband and I really seems to be running into problems now that I have a new I pad and we have one itunes account.

I just purchased the New Ipad, my husband and I have 2 Iphones (4 & 4s) and he has the Ipad 2, we are "technically" challenged, that I will put out there right up front . We've had nothing but troubles with the imessaging, and messages stating that they have been delivered but not received. I am not sure if it's more confusing with us having this one Itunes account, if it's best for me to have my Itunes account and my husband having his own. The Itunes account is my husband's and for some reason, the imessager doesn't recognize "him" being registered, but it sees everyone else. It wasn't working last night, but this morning, it worked, but when I tried to send him a text from my iphone this morning, it said, delivered, but he never got it, the only way I could get it to work, was to turn off, imessaging. It's become very confusing and I am not sure why. I am thinking, I will remove my Iphone from his Itunes account, set up my own (as we have too much problem with this Icloud, his contacts, his music, etc). Any thoughts, suggest, help, would be greatly appreciated. Not sure what this problem is all the sudden with the imessager, we had no problem before I got my Ipad (which has not been synced with his Itunes yet as an additonal device) I am sure if there is a problem with how we have our contacts listed). You and your husband can share a store account and still have seperate iCloud accounts for your contacts, bookmarks and stuff like that. Click here for instructions to make an apple account without entering a credit card. Make sure you use a different email address for each apple account.
Set up your iPhone/iPad whatever using the new account for iCloud. Then go into settings/store and sign in with your purchasing account, you may need to sign out of the other account. To the best of my knowledge, your household is allowed to share purchased legally, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Once you each have your own devices set to your own accounts you can set them to backup to that account and it will keep all your contacts seperate.

How do i remove my old Apple Id from iPhone's iCloud setting which does not exist anymore

Purchased new iphone 5s, installed with itunes restoring backup from iphone 4 (which was too old a backup). It restored an old apple id (which i do not use anymore) in the iCloud settings while having my new Apple Id in the Itunes & App Store. I cannot turn off the iCloud setting due to old AppleId popping up - which does not exist.. How do i remove the old Apple Id from icloud setting on the phone.
I cannot erase the phone as it asks for the password for the old Apple Id. And i cannot do the restore again (after i made a recent back up my iphone 4) as itunes asks me to turn off Find my phone.

The Apple ID exists. The email address you used to create it may not, but the Apple ID does. Call AppleCare and ask to speak to someone in account security.

Two separate Apple accounts for iPhone but one iPad - can we get apps from both accounts to iPad?

My wife and I have our own apple accounts (for our iphones) but share (or fight really!) over the only iPad.
Is it possible to download Apps from both our accounts onto the Ipad, or would this violate the T&C and so not possible?

It doesn't violate any terms and conditions, but if you associate the iPad with another Apple ID by downloading any past purchases using that other ID, you lock yourself out of the first ID for 90 days. You can read this for more information and decide if you want to associate the iPad with another ID.

I cannot access iTunes from any device. It's telling me that itunes is temporally unavailable. It's not my connection, app, software, or device. I'm prett savvy with IT and it has to be on the other end. All of my devices didn't bite the dust at the same time. If they did S%&T!!

I have a Zagg Sparq, it's a charger that's also a battery. I have the first gen but it'll charge an iPad almost full, and will get the iPhone a couple of times I think. You can use it to charge the device, but it's also a battery so you can simply plug your device into it and charge your device off line. www.zagg.com

Can't connect iphone 5 to ipad 3 by bluetooth for hotspot

I have an iPad 3 4G and an iPhone 5. Both data plans allow me to use personal hotspot, and depending upon which carrier has the better signal, I used to be able to use the other devices data plan.
Recently (since updating to IOS 6.0.1) I can no longer connect the iphone to the ipad- which is a real pain as I get a much bigger data allowance on the ipad than i do on the iphone!
I have restored the iphone and it's no better. When I am searching for the ipad, the iphone doesnt detect it. If I search for the iphone from the ipad, I can see the iphone. When I select the iphone from the ipad- to pair them, the ipad becomes visible on the iphone. It works occasionally, allowing me to use the iphone's hotspot but not the other way around.
Also, the iPhone doesn't show the names of all of my devices in the menu, it shows the MAC addresses- only my laptop shows as it's name, whereas my handsfree or bluetooth speaker just show their addresses.
Hope this all makes sense, any ideas?????

Hi, yes I'm using the original apple cables.
This definitely isn't user error nor confined just to me, the devices are used by different people in the home.
On a quick sample around the office (survey of 7 people let me add) 4 of them said the cables had broken on them and had to be replaced.
Having also searched through the forums it appears this is a fairly widespread issue.
It's defo not user error!

In preferences turn on iTunes sharing in iTunes preferences and keep iTunes turned on in both accounts. Or better yet put the iTunes library on the main HD rather than in an account and set the location of the library to that location in iTunes preferences.

Welcome to the world of digital media. Your can't really transfer it. I don't know what the rules are about transferring to your spouse but I do know that in some cases when you die, your heirs cannot inherit your digital media. This is why there is still an advantage to buying the CD since the usage rights belong to whomever holds the physical media.
A possible workaround is to burn the songs to a music CD with yout account (tracks only without song titles) and then having your wife upload it as a regular music CD onto her account. It's been a while since i've done this so I'm not sure if it would work now.
Please note that I'm not advocating copyright and/or TOS violations. I'm only suggesting ways to copy music for your own personal use which has traditonally been permitted. I only did this because I wanted to convert iTunes songs to mp3 files so I could burn them onto a data CD for use in my car. It would make sense that since married couples are a joint entity, this would be personal use.
Also, I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice.

I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas. New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally. I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though

I have near 300 contacts now through work etc and he will not want them plus i will not want his or him being able to delete mine by mistake. and then for email and facetime, well I want to give him his privacy so I do not receive his messages etc. especially now that we are considering switching to iPhones
Then last but not least, i don't know the best solution for my son. he is only 7 years old so even though I don't want to pay for things again I don't want him being able to download "just any" app from the purchased icon in Appstore. Also, is there a child friendly setting to prevent him from viewing inappropriate content on the internet?

When I call my e-mail address from my Iphone, it rings on my Ipad, but immediatly says it is busy. Is this because I have the same Apple ID set up for both devices? Is there a way to make it work anyway?

both superiormac and iCrizzo are wrong i have an iphone and an ipad 2 and have tried the same.
the key is to call the mobile no. (with which you registered the iphone) using the ipad or call the apple id you have on the ipad from iphone. But you have to sign out from the apple id from the facetime option in the iphone.
