Apple TV 2 & LaCie Network2NAS device

Apologies - I am sure this has been done to death elsewhere, but I cannot find any posts on the subject.
I have a LaCie NAS on my network, with iTunes sharing. It happily appears on iTunes, running on my MacBook & iMac, as a 'shared device', and I can stream music from it.
However, it doesn't appear on the Apple TV as an option. It seems odd that streaming from a NAS is allowed on the computers, but not the TV device. Am I doing something wrong in the setup, or does this feature simply not exist on the Apple TV?

I'd rather leave a NAS running as my storage device, rather than one of my Macs. It has to be more energy efficient, and I have to now keep my library across several devices, rather than one disk. With the NAS, I was at least able to take my music etc. off my laptop, thus freeing up space, but still have access to it. Apple TV won't play nicely with it, so I have to go back a step. In my opinion, and I am sure yours will differ, but that's not very helpful.
it's up to your NAS manufacturer to implement real itunes, not apple.
until it support HomeSharing, it will never be able to connect to the appletv.
I assume the work around is to set up my laptop so that the NAS is actually the remote storage drive for the music library. Then I have to have both the laptop & the NAS running to stream to the Apple TV. Three devices running - again, using more power...
you can use your NAS as your itunes storage location, but itunes still must be running and open for the appletv to connect to it.

You can't buy more storage on an iPad. You are referring to space on iCloud and that probably won't accomplish what you are trying to do.

However, I realised that there are inconveniences such as not being able to Facetime each other. In addition, his iTunes account is UK-based and we'd like to also have a New Zealand iTunes account for various reasons.

Go to settings/icloud and sign out. Then sign in by creating a new Apple ID. Do the same in Settings for Messages, FaceTime and iTunes & App Store. Next, link your Apple IDs using Family Sharing so you can still share music and apps. Family Sharing - Apple Support

My wife has a laptop and an iphone 4s, I have a laptop and and iphone 4s, our two sons have our old iphone 3s, we have an old laptop for our sons to use. Our old iphones for our sons are deactivated as phones - so they are used as i-touches for songs, pictures and aps. I want to use icloud (which I'm new to) to hopefully have all four iphones and all three computers stay synced with at least music - if not aps and pictures. My wife has an apple ID and I have one. I'd like to authorize all three laptops for both apple IDs so that we will still have our own accounts, but everything either of us buys will be automatically loaded into all three laptops and all four iphones. Can this be done?

Each person in your home can have their own Apple ID provided it is tied the their own separate email address.
iTunes permits up to five authorized computers connected to a single Apple ID: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
For this all to work well, however, each user in your household should have a separate user account on the computer they commonly use.

You can authorize your computer fro two accounts, then sync the content to the device.

Upon activation of my ipod touch 4 last year, i have several errors encountered in creating my apple ID account. As I remember, I have created 3 accounts without verifications. Today, I was about to create another one because I will be using my activated apple account on my iphone, my device prompted me that I already exceeded creation Free apple Id account on my device (ipod). I'm getting a similar problem with my Macbook Pro. itunes match was working fine until two days ago when i created another 'user id' for the laptop and then an itunes account for that user under their profile. Now i cant turn on itunes match on my itunes under my user account. Contacted Apple today who said to use the Express Lane and email the problem and they might be able to make an 'exception' on the account. Otherwise I'll have to wait 88 days to access a lot of my music on the macbook pro. itunes match is still working on the iphone 4S and ipad2.
Can anyone help? The only thought was too re-stream the laptop. Ive already tried deauthorising the other user but it made no difference.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted. If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Yes, you can. In fact it's recommended that you use different IDs for iMessage, FaceTime and iCloud. You can still share the same ID for iTunes without any issues.
You are getting each other's text messages because you're using the same ID for iMessage. To fix this, one of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign in with a different ID. To avoid getting each other's FaceTime calls, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

You can each have your own ID for your own iTunes accounts, but in order for a device to stream via AirPlay to the same Apple TV, everything must use the same homesharing ID. This is not the same as your iTunes account ID (although it can be for one of the devices)

If you don't want them to be unified, don't use the same Apple ID for FaceTime and iMessage on our devices. Go to Settings>Messsages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID. Do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.
