Apple tv 2 podcasts menu missing

Just noticed that Podcasts option has gone from main Internet menu. Was beneath YouTube but no longer. Anyone else noticed this? What gives? Has Apple pulled the service or is there a fault?

Disappearing menu items is starting to become a recurring theme here, perhaps the result of an ATV2 software bug. Try the restore procedure and see if that resolves the problem:

  • Why is the podcast menu missing!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I have an ipod second generation and the menu for podcasts is completely missing from the ipod itself. My software version is 1.1.1. What is wrong?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    How about settings/main menu/podcasts/on.
    Does that help?

  • Enhanced Podcast Menu Missing

Something strange has happened with iTunes on my PC. Normally, when you play an enhanced podcast, a new drop-down menu would show in the menu bar next to help. From here, you could jump right to different sections of the podcast. But now, it isn't there anymore, even when I play old podcasts that I still have (which I know support this feature).
Does anyone know what happened to it? Is it just me?
I have uninstalled/re-installed iTunes, but no change.

    Has this disappeared on everyone's?

  • Podcast Menu Item Missing in 3.0

Hi, I just updated my Apple Tv to 3.0 and Synched Podcasts and Itunes U media to it, but there is no podcast menu item on the main menu. I rebooted apple tv, but still no podcast menu item. I use the Custom Sync option. Anyone have any idea how to get podcasts to show up?
    Thanks.

Well, I bit the bullet and did a factory reset on the apple tv. Then upgraded to 3.0 again and got the poscast menu item. Ten hours later, after re-synching all my media, I am back in business.

  • Need an option to filter video podcasts out in the regular podcasts menu

The problem is that when you have a lot of podcasts, both video and audio, it is easy to focus in on only the video podcasts but when you are viewing the regular podcasts menu it shows both video and audio only podcasts. I find that I am spending a lot of time trying to remember which ones are audio only when scrolling through my list because I don' t want to listen to only the audio of a video podcast and have it marked as listened to already. Some video and audio version have similar names but different content, such as the NYTimes David Pogue tech reviewer has both an audio and a video podcast and they ARE different content. I'm sure that I am not the only one who has wished there was a way to separate the audio only podcasts from the video ones in the podcast menu.
My proposal...that as many people as possible submit a feature request to Apple to add an option in the iPod settings menu to show only audio podcasts in the podcasts menu. Yes, smart playlists could be set up (and I tried it for a while) but then you loose the blue dot that reminds me of which episode I am on so I wasn't happy with that approach. • First podcast episode missing from search

    Newbie here...
iTunes is missing my first episode 'Beginning'.  When I first submitted the show it showed up fine.  If you subscribe to the show you get the first episode but if you just search for the show (The QuoteSpoke Podcast) it is missing the first episode.  Any advice is appreciated.  My show and RSS info is available below.

Under neath the list of episodes, the Store says '4 items'. I'm afraid you've fallen over a long-standing intermittent bug in the Store which does this sort of thing. It's not a problem with your feed, and there isn't anything you can do about it. It will probably sort itself out in a few days.

  • Podcast menu (lack of) problem

Last night I updated my Podcasts, I had a Podcast menu on my black 4 gig nano before this. I first noticed I had a problem when i re-connected to itunes later in the evening to see that there was no Podcast icon above my playlists under my ipod's name, which has never happened before, I only had a podcasts playlist, but no podcast menu and icon at the top of them.
When I checked my nano I no longer had a podcast menu on there either, so the only way I can now view or listen to my podcasts is to go to playlists and use the podcast playlist.
I have checked with my ipod updater and it says my nano firware is correct at 1.0. So all I can do in the updater is reset my nano to factory state, I would rather not have to go through that. I just want my podcast menu back on my ipod and in itunes above my playlists on my ipod.
can anyone help me out with this? :/

It will completely erase your Ipod but restoring you Ipod with the Ipod updater is always a good first step. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60944

  • Podcast menu stuck at "unwatched" view

I was listening to podcasts on my Apple TV (2nd Gen) streamed from my MacBook. I changed the view once to show only "unwatched" (the top of the podcast menu would show "by date", "by show", or "unwatched".
Now the menu seems stuck at "unwatched" and I can't change the view to one of the other options. I arrow up until the "unwatched" is selected and then try to click the left arrow and it makes the popping/click sound, but doesn't move.
This view also doesn't give me access to my podcast playlists, like the view before did.
I tried backing up to the main menu and going back in, but it didn't work. Tried putting the the ATV to sleep and then waking it back up--same problem. All other menus (Movies, TV shows) are working fine in the "by date" and "by show/movie" section.
The same thing happens when I go to the Podcasts section streaming from my Mac Mini. It's as if ALL Podcasts from all sources are stuck on the unwatched view only and will not let me view playlists or "by date" or "by show".
    Any ideas?

By the way, "Show Playlists" IS selected to show all in the Audio & Video preference settings.
Now, that I've gone into the settings section, my remote won't let me get out. I can move up and down in the settings menu, but can't move out and left to "computers", "internet", "tv shows", "movies", etc.
What in the world would be causing this?

  • Podcast Menu on 3G iPod?

    Hey Guys.
I recently bought an old 3G iPod (for the nostalgia) and it arrived this morning. I installed the latest iPod Firmware for the iPod, but for some reason, there is no Podcast menu on the iPod like there is on my 5G and nano.
Is there any way to get a Podcast menu on there? The only way i can access them now is either through artists or in the Podcast playlist.
    Thanks,
    *nathan

Happy Birthday indeed to version 2.3
Considering it's been this long since the last 3G firmware upgrade, im thinking more and more that Apple have stopped supporting this model. To quote another post I read on another site, I dont expect Apple to upgrade the firmware so i get a color screen and video playback.
I mean, even if the 3G firmware would just allow the iPod to bookmark when playing podcasts would be a big help. Combined with a lack of show notes (due to a lack of this feature), its almost impossible to find where you left off when listening to a long show like KFI Tech Guy.

Any clue, how i can add a mail account to apple mail app, but with separate password / pin to open it.
Years ago there was a program called mail switcher which added this functionality, but thats gone.
    cheers
    Tom

They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
    Not a great solution.
Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

  • [SOLVED] Using Apple's UEFI boot menu with Arch

    Hello,
I've successfully installed arch on my mid-2012 (5,1) 11" Macbook Air, and now I'm trying to get an entry in apple's boot menu (the one that shows when you hold 'option' when starting the computer).  From the author of rEFInd's install instructions (http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/installing.html#osx) it sounds like I can just add some files to `/dev/sda1` (a vfat directory that contains the stuff needed to boot macos), and then run apple's `bless` command and we're good to go.  Unfortunately I've tried this a bunch of different ways, to no avail.  I think some of my failure is simply because of a misunderstanding of UEFI, here are some questions I (partially) don't understand and my current understanding of them:
    1. Do I even need a bootloader on a pure GPT/UEFI system?  It seems like the answer is no, and I can just use the UEFI firmware and the linux kernel to load Arch (per: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UE … ux_Kernel).  Note: I'd like to have as little software between the firmware and the os, for speed and simplicity.  However, I'd still like to dual boot, but it sounds like the firmware can handle showing me a menu as long as there are entries pointing to parts of each OS.
    2. Will grub/rEFInd/syslinux do some of the work for me initially/on a kernel update?  I think the answer is yes, which would be motivation (esp when I need to update the kernel) to just use a multibootloader and have it handle arch and the firmware pass control to either that or MacOS
    3. Will `efibootmgr` brick my mac?  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UE … FI_systems says it will, but I think the `grub-install` command uses `efibootmgr`, so should I not try grub on here (this package: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/core … fi-x86_64/ ).  Also some of the other packages (like rEFInd-efi) depend on efibootmgr, so does that mean any kind of an install from them (a command from the package, not the `pacman -S pkg` command) will also brick my system? (see rEFInd-efi dependencies: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extr … efind-efi/ )
I've been searching a bunch of different things, output of the `bless` commands I've been running, and have found the following:
    * https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=148647
    * Using OSX to install rEFInd manually (moving the files around and using OSXs `bless` command) http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/installing.html#osx , I used the rEFInd files from Archs repos: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extr … efind-efi/ )
    * The Wiki docs on rEFInd https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UE … ing_rEFInd
To summarize, I'm trying to set up a dual boot between MacOS (installed) and Arch (also installed, there's just no way to boot it on my system yet) using Apple's built in menu that deals with the EFI partition on /dev/sda1 .  Thanks in advance for any help!

Not quite. That makes a boot loader bootable, but it doesn't add an entry to Apple's boot manager menu. There's a blog post somewhere by Matthew Garrett that describes the steps necessary to add something to Apple's boot manager, but I couldn't find it in a quick Web search. Maybe you'll have better luck, or be able to track down the same information somewhere else. As I recall, it involves using a separate HFS+ volume, creating two or three dummy files, and using "bless" in OS X.
    1. Do I even need a bootloader on a pure GPT/UEFI system?
Yes, you do need a boot loader. It's important to distinguish between a boot loader and a boot manager, though. The former is a program that loads a kernel, and perhaps associated data, into memory and transfers control to the kernel. A boot manager presents a user interface that enables you to select which OS (or which boot loader) to launch. A boot manager is not strictly necessary, and Apple's EFI implementation includes its own simple boot manager, which is what you've been unsuccessful in configuring.
Note: I'd like to have as little software between the firmware and the os, for speed and simplicity.  However, I'd still like to dual boot, but it sounds like the firmware can handle showing me a menu as long as there are entries pointing to parts of each OS.
Many people make do with the firmware's own boot manager, but this can be rather inflexible. I'm not even sure if Apple's boot manager can handle passing options to Linux kernels' EFI stub loaders. This ability is not absolutely required, but without it you must compile your options into your kernel at compile time, which greatly reduces flexibility since you can't modify the options on a per-boot basis -- say, to boot into single-user mode if this is required.
    2. Will grub/rEFInd/syslinux do some of the work for me initially/on a kernel update?
The usual Arch Linux method of handling kernel updates is to overwrite an old kernel with a new one, so no boot loader/boot manager changes are required. If you want to keep numbered kernels around (as most other distributions do), GRUB provides scripts that can help automate changes, but they are required in the grub.cfg file. rEFInd can auto-detect boot loaders, and if you're using the EFI stub loader, that means that the kernel is its own boot loader, and with a proper configuration, rEFInd can detect new kernels without changing its configuration file.
SYSLINUX has some very early and very experimental EFI support. The one and only time I tried it (about a month ago), it wouldn't compile for me. (I don't know of a precompiled binary available on the Web -- the support is that new!) I don't recommend trying it unless somebody who's gotten it to work offers to help you personally.
There were reports of efibootmgr damaging Mac firmware several months ago (I believe over a year ago). Since then I've seen claims that this problem has been fixed with recent kernels (3.0 and later, IIRC), but I've seen no substantiation one way or the other. Overall, I recommend caution....
On a Mac, I recommend installing rEFInd (or any other EFI boot loader) from OS X rather than from Linux. (Note that I'm rEFInd's maintainer, so that's an official recommendation from the software's developer.) Offhand, I don't know if the Arch package for rEFInd runs efibootmgr automatically on boot or just has it as a dependency because efibootmgr is the usual way to register a boot loader on UEFI systems. If the latter, it should be safe to install the Arch package for rEFInd, copy its files, and then reboot to OS X to run bless on it. It would be just as easy, if not easier, to install it completely from OS X, though.

  • Podcasts are not listed in Podcast menu

I resynched my iPod and all my podcast files are mixed in with the music titles. When I select the podcast menu item, none of the podcasts are displayed. However, when I select Genre on the main menu, then my podcast files can be found within several of the categories listed (e.g. Philosopy, Comedy, History, Science and Medicine). How can I get them all listed under the podcast selection in the main menu?

Incidentally, I manually manage the files on my ipod and the problem came about when I plugged my ipod into a friend's computer. He had an old version of itunes installed and it appears to have messed up the way the podcasts are labeled so the ipod no longer recognizes them as podcasts.
    Can anyone help?

  • Can't Play Podcasts - unable to enter the podcast menu

When I try to enter the Podcasts menu from the iPod main menu by clicking the center button nothing happens. To the right it shows that there are 27 podcasts so I don't know why it doesn't respond. The center button still works in general since I can enter other menu items with it.
Has anyone had this problem? How can I fix this?

Thanks!!!  I actually used the "reset network settings" process but my guess is that I will now have to re-enter passwords for the networks I use...seems they should have made an easy way to simply change a password for a specific network since a lot of folks change them regularly for security reasons....thanks for the responses!!!

  • Exporting slideshows results in file with only the first picture then a blank white screen with music. Apple bug or am I missing the obvious?

When I export slideshows the result is a file with only the first picture then a blank white screen with music. Apple bug or am I missing the obvious?

Usually when the phone shows just the white Apple logo, it indicates an issue with the system software that prevents the phone from finishing it's boot sequence. When this happens, you will need to restore the phone, which removes all data and replaces the system software with a fresh set.
Since the phone is not seen in iTunes when it's in this state, you will have to put it into DFU mode for iTunes to see it.
To put the phone in DFU mode:
    - make sure the phone is connected to a computer with the current version of iTunes on it.
    - hold the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for 8 seconds.
    - let go of the sleep/wake button and continue pressing the home button. The iTunes screen will show a short progress bar then show a dialog box stating that an iPod was detected that is in recovery mode.
    -click OK
-click the Restore button in the middle of the iTunes page
After the restore the phone should be back up and running and you can sync your data back.
