Apple TV 2-Registration?

Just got an Apple TV 2 over the weekend-setup was painless, and it works great so far (except Movie Trailers take forever to load-not sure what is up with that; the Apple Trailers site is much, much faster).
One question-was there a registration page in the setup? I don't remember seeing/sending in one-or is it registered automatically? Just curious, as it seems like a standard procedure for Apple products.

The slow trailers/movies with ATV2 seems to be happening most to the 'early adopters' who ordered day 1 or before, and even then only if they have now upgraded to the new version of the software.
On my ATV2 I use an ethernet connection direct to an Airport extreme, with DSL that clocks at 5.78 Mbps. After 5 minutes on the stopwatch, my 2 minute trailer is less than 33% loaded, and has not started playing.
If you experience this same issue, you can try to restore the software through itunes (connect the ATV2 with a micro-USB cable, and open iTunes. Or, once that doesn't work (it didn't for me) call Apple Cae and let them send yu a pre-paid box for return/repair.
I am currently waiting for my replacement right now. i just wish Apple would admit there is an issue, so I could feel comfortable reccommending the ATV2 to others, instead of scratching it off my 'to buy' Christmas list.

I'm trying to use FaceTime from my IMac OS Version 10.8.5 but when I try to log in, the system tries to verify and gives me a number to call Apple to complete registration.  Is there anything I can do?

There is no official public documentation of that alert as far as I know.
If you're trying to sign in to FaceTime, try to sign in to iMessage in the Messages application, or vice versa.
Otherwise, do as the alert directs. According to reports, you won't be charged for the support call if you select "Apple ID"—not the hardware model—as the product you're asking about, and cite the "customer code" in the alert as the "validation code" when you speak to the Apple representative.

  • Apple Care (and registration) disappeared from Apple Profile

Seems like Apple is really going down after Steve Jobs departure.
Been having a lot of issues, this is just one of them.  First, my registered products disappeared from my product list.  When I had to register them again, it says that I am not covered by Apple Care, which I purchased with my laptop.  Now I can't get in touch with Apple for my other problems.
This is really getting frustrating.  My next product will not be an Apple.

If it's just a glitch it can be sorted out.  Call up AppleCare, and tell the Advisor that you did have APP registered, but that it got stripped off somehow.
If you still have the reg #, or the receipt, etc, then they can transfer you over to the Agreement Administration, and get it sorted out for you.

  • Apple ID Product Registration

I have the following products; 21.5" iMac, 13" Macbook Pro, iPhone 4S, and an iPad.  When I sign into Apple Support to view my products, there are only two that show up, that being the Macbook Pro and my iPhone.  I have used my Apple ID on the iMac and iPad.  Why are these not showing up as registered products?

Simply call AppleCare they will help you out.

  • New Apple Discussions user registration

I just registered as a new user and almost gave up. The screen where you have to agree to the user agreement, and set your alias, just came up repeatedly, with no indication of what the error was. After about a dozen tries I finally got it to work by leaving everything but the alias blank.
I don't care anymore since I got in, but someone from Apple ought to fix it. I'm sure a lot of people just give up!

Had the same problem. First, my entire Apple ID account, which I've been using for over 5 years, was for some reason deleted . Not really inspiring confidence...I wonder if my credit card and personal information is being handled with the same care. Anyway, yes there is a bug in the discussions account creation page. There is no indication of the error either in Safari or Firefox, and it was the alias that kept kicking it back to the account creation page. The alias I was trying to use was my old one so it thinks it's still taken, even though my old Apple account no longer exists (or is accessible).

  • Product Registration doesn't accept the Serial Number of my Time Capsule

    Hi,
I've bought a Time Capsule 500GB a couple of months ago (at Apple Store - Fort Lauderdale) and several times I've tried to register it's Serial Number at Apple's Product Registration website. I always get the same error when I type the SN: "We could not recognize the serial number you entered. Please re-enter it, making sure each letter or number is correct."
The problem is that I've checked the SN several times (physically at the bottom o TC and via AirPort Utility) and the SN is CORRECT.
Have anyone faced this problem before?

I just had this problem today. I received my TC for Christmas and my parents bought it a week before the holiday from my local apple store (Norfolk, VA). I have been having other problems with my TC and wanted to get online support, that's when I first discovered the problem with the SN. I attempted to register it online with my already existing apple ID and it still didn't work. I finally called tech support. I didn't tell the guy I was having problems registering it with the SN, he typed it into his computer and didn't say anything. After attempting to trouble shoot my other problem I told him about the issue with the SN. He did say that when he put in my current SN that it brought up a message saying that there was "no support" for my TC. I had read that there is complimentary phone support for a certain amount of time for Mac computers and iPhones, but I guess there is not for the TC (what BS!!). Either that or he kept saying that my parents must have "bought it early." I didn't ask this, but I should have, if that meant that there was no warranty on it?? But anyhoo, long story short (sorry for rambling) because he put in my SN and my existing information it automatically registered everything and when I logged back onto apple.com and went to get online support (because the problem wasn't fixed) my TC was now listed as my registered products. You may just have to call like I did. I have no clue why though??

  • My apple id keeps saying is blocked i cant get through i have right id abd right password

Cannot download apps with itunes credit apple id kerps saying is blocked i have right password so how do i fix it

    Hi,
This is about the type of APple ID that is also a Valid AIM Screen Name.
Apple's Agreement with AIM was originally for the @mac.com ending names issued under the .Mac service (pre MobileMe) and then later the MobileMe issued @me.com IDs.
When MobileMe started Apple changed the registration page for @mac.com names to be "iChat names"  (Under @mac.com all names worked "forever" in iChat (Trial Accounts, Paid for account or Lapsed accounts)
The Trial and Lapsed accounts no longer worked as email addresses but will work with iChat. (Therefore a small step to keep issuing the names).
    NOTE:
You cannot create a new Apple ID whilst using the email already linked to another one.
An @mac.com name is a New Apple ID.
The MobileMe @Me.com issued names work in all iChat versions.
Later @me.com names issued via iCloud only work with iChat 6  (iChat makes a dual Login to AIM and Me.com so that the Password can be verified)
In All Cases the password has to be 16 characters or less due to the limit at the AIM server end (despite Apple trying to get you to make them longer).
My Apple ID is, like yours, an email from somewhere else.  In my case it is an old Dial-up Account I used to have.
An Alternative to to register the Email Address with AIM's Registration Page (Or just use it a Security, Password and Confirmation address).
At the end of the day it is about whether you want a separate ID or not.

  • Stolen Apple device - Serial Number Issue

I have recently lost my iPod touch device through property theft. I had iCloud on and "find my iphone" as well. I have found that no apple device can track without the help of cellular of wifi, however though using the device I can track my movements on mapping apps without actually being connected to any particular wifi or cellular network. This form of tracking does NOT work over iCloud functions, so there is no way for me to track my iPod touch. I have been told by Police to obtain my serial number which is registered to my apple account. What concerns me is that according to other posts people can hook my iPod touch up to another computer and iTunes, wipe it clean and re-register so they can use it themselves. Now I remember that when using older Microsoft programs I had to enter a serial number and register it online to use the program, and if all "uses" had been used I could not register and use that program. Similar I should assume applies to apple with its sophisticated policies, that a stolen device has to be registered before syncing with another computer by way of serial number and that I should get an email to say that somebody is trying to re-register my device on another computer. The same prompt system used for apple password changes. My main issue is that the iPod touch is forever registered to me unless I remove it, but does Apple allow a thief to register the same device, the same serial number twice? If that were so, there are laws in most countrys that would classify this as an accessory to a criminal act, allowing and encouraging a black market of stolen apple goods. Apple puts up a front with its "find my iphone" app, but doesn't the world agree that serial number tracking of registrations should play a part. I can give my serial number to the Police, but only apple will know if somebody has tried to register my device a second time. In short, can my iPod touch be wiped? (it is locked). Does apple have a policy indemnifying them of criminal black market activities? Can apple notify me if somebody tries to re-register my property? Can apple block re-registration attempts?

    gail from maine, you said
"You said: What concerns me is that according to other posts people can hook my iPod touch up to another computer and iTunes, wipe it clean and re-register so they can use it themselves.
"What I said was - no they cannot. Period. It is a brick to them.
"So, your statement: All I have queried is if somebody COULD wipe the device and re-register it, then apple makes it easy to use a stolen device.
"Is invalid, because someone CANNOT wipe the device if you have your device signed onto iCloud and you have the Find My iPhone application enabled. Since they cannot wipe it, they cannot use it. Apple has made it virtually impossible to use a stolen device."
The OP said theyhave "iPod touch, iOS 6.1.6". That means they have a 4G. Theus, all onne has to do is place the iPod in recovery mode and restore via iTunes. Then they can use/sell the working iPod.
iOS 7 introduced the Acivation Lock
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7
Which, while allowing restoring the device with recovery mode, does not allow use of the iPod unless the Apple ID andf Password of the previous owner is entered. Of the iPods, only the 5G iPod can go to iOS 7

  • Apple Serial Numbers...potential abuse?

    Howdy Mac Discussion Community...
I have a general question my ibook G3 serial number and a craigslist seller.
So, I picked up an Airport card from a seller on craigslist, pretty straightforward, right?
During our appointment, the seller asks me if I would like to upgrade my RAM, noticing upon the installation that the RAM I had could be upgraded, and that they could potentially provide me with more. A grand notion, one might say, right?
In doing so, this person asks me for my iBook's serial # to ensure that they have the right RAM for my model machine. Afterwords I began to think to myself "Why would they need the serial # if they know the model?
    My question for those who are more experienced in such matters is this;
1.1 Was I foolish in releasing this information to an otherwise complete stranger?
Does this mean that I may have future difficulties with Apple in regards to ownership concerning this machine?
I purchased the machine off of eBay some time ago and have as of yet to contact Apple with my registration #.
2.1 Should I do this immediately?
3.1 Does anyone see any potential pitfalls for me in the future?
Being prudent over paranoid and possibly a little too trusting of others,
    S
    Thanks for responding.

I've never figured out what mischief anyone can do with a serial number, but Apple does not encourage posting them here in Apple Discussions. The only danger I see is if somebody were to report it stolen using the serial number, especially if they knew your identity.

  • How do I migrate (change) my apps from one account to another?

how do I move apps to an account of Argentina for an account in Uruguay?

I have 2 Apple IDs: A & B. A is my iTunes ID; while B is my Apple Discussions, Apple hardware/software registration, etc. Both have a database with my name, address, purchase history, registration, etc. Why is it "fraud prevention" to not allow everything under ID "B"? Or do you mean not buying all my music/apps/books/ a second time is "fraud" because Apple would get more money?
If other companies can merge their customer's separate data into one, Apple should be able to do so. I'm sure that those other companies are able to safeguard, say, your data from me trying to add it to my ID, or vice versa, while merging a customer's date into one record.
Meanwhile, there is still the problem of unwanted IDs "C" & "D"; I'm just ignoring them for now.

  • Where's the ".dmg" lion file for creating a boot disk?

When I downloaded Lion from the app store, no .dmg file was shown on my desktop. I completed the install and still saw no .dmg file. Did the update the Lion stop placing the .dmg file on the desktop?

The InstallESD.dmg file is in the downloaded Mac OS X app file that appears on your Dock and in the Applications folder after downloading and BEFORE you click Continue to install Lion. See here for some information.
    Excerpt from above link:
    What you need to know
I took up this challenge after I had installed OS X Lion on my MacBook Pro. It’s worth noting that once you run the Lion installer from the Mac App Store, it magically disappears from your computer. You, can, however, retrieve it in one of two ways. If you hold down the "Option" key when you click on the "Purchased" tab of the Mac App Store you'll gain the option to re-download the Lion installer. If you have another Mac with the Mac App Store, you can also take advantage of Apple's generous registration policy (Apple allows you to register up to five computers with an iTunes account). I signed into my iTunes account via another MacBook’s Mac App Store (Store/ Sign In) to re-download Lion. As long as you don’t run the installer, you can locate it in your Applications folder.

  • Maps on mavericks blank

Having updated my Macbook Pro Retina to Mavericks, I find that the new Maps app is blank and not loading the maps, in either standard, hybrid or Satellite view.
Various other users have reported changing the Language order solves this, but I only have one language (English) that is set. Others suggested it worked in full screen mode and/or after a reboot, but I have tried this too and this has no effect.
Has anyone else had this issue or found any other resolution to the problem?

This problem had been plaguing me for months, and none of the suggestions I tried online helped. I finally tried looking in the console, and found lots of lines like this:
9/3/14 10:58:57.512 xpcd[206]: com.apple.geod[733]: registration request failed: (0x11, 0x0) Could not obtain real path to the container root (~/Library/Containers/com.apple.geod/Data): The operation couldn’t be completed. No such file or directory
    9/3/14 10:58:57.703 com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.apple.geod[733]) Job appears to have crashed: Illegal instruction: 4
    9/3/14 10:58:57.703 com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.apple.geod) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
I tried rm -r ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.geod and then re-launched Maps, and much to my delight, I was finally seeing actual maps!
The console showed my map tiles being recreated, and fixing permissions on the com.apple.Maps container (which directory I had earlier tried deleting, based on other online suggestions):
9/3/14 11:03:34.284 com.apple.geod[800]: /SourceCache/GeoServices/GeoServices-702.15.12/GEOTileDBWriter.mm:203 recreating tile database because manifest URL changed
    9/3/14 11:03:34.284 com.apple.geod[800]: /SourceCache/GeoServices/GeoServices-702.15.12/GEOTileDBWriter.mm:406 Recreating tile database
    9/3/14 11:03:50.311 xpcd[206]: restored permissions (100600 -> 100700) on /Users/jim/Library/Containers/com.apple.Maps/Container.plist
It seems that removing both of those got rid of whatever corruption had been causing this long-standing problem. I hope this might help someone else.

  • Try using IMac as local server

Not sure if this belongs to here ...
I need to set up (but would like to avoid MAMP) a local server environment for web-development purposes and learned that IMac comes with its own Apache and PHP/MySQL.
I tried the last three days (after I got my brand new 27" IMac) to find my way through but I think I am just too new to the IMac family,,, Can anyone please guide me through on how to achieve my goal?
    Thanks a lot

You are not in the right forum. You want the Unix forum under Mac OS X Technologies heading of the main forums list and the OS X Server forums. You should also join the Apple Developers forums - registration is free - where you will find helpful documentation and additional forums.
As you have already surmised this is not truly an OS X issue but a Unix one. BTW there are some good books at Amazon.com on OS X Unix.
