Apple TV 2 & shared folders

Can Apple TV 2 connect to shared folders on my Mac? Is it possible to watch movies from shared folders on Apple TV 2?

I am also having the same problem. My original Apple TV was version 1. The earlier version of this ATV and Itunes was able to sync photos in nested or sub folders direct from the hard drive and not using any photo program. I upgraded to 2.2 and kept the old files on my ATV and did not sync to Itunes for a long time but when I decided to sync all of my nested photo folders on the ATV were deleted and I could not re sync. I spoke to apple care support today and was advised the programming was not set up to read from sub folders. However Itunes and the apple TV directions say otherwise. I suggested to Apple they consider fixing the programming to follow what Itunes and the ATV manuals say. This is a very desired feature to have.

  • Will Apple Mail (iOS) support RFC 2342 ( Shared Folders)?

Wie use some iOS in our corporate environment, but are constantly stressed out by the fact that Apple Mail does not "see" Shared Folders on our IMAP-server ( listed as #shared/... In the server's .mailboxlist). Wie use these folders for archiving.

No hair but i got it now...
Was so easy that i overlooked it.
i just had to put an alias into the postfix conf

    Voila!
At the beginning i thought there is a easy solution, cause on the old server it was doable in the web frontend. I overlooked that there were more steps involved in the background.

  • My Macbook Air does not show up on my network to any of my other computers, Other computers on my network appear and disappear, some shared folders are not accessible

My Macbook Air with Lion does not show up on my network to any of my other computers (PC's) , even though it is connected to my wifi and does access the Internet. In addition, my other computers sometimes show up in Finder and sometimes they're not there. Sometimes they do show in Finder and when I click on them, I get "Connection Failed", other times, they connect. Also some shared folders on those other computers, which are PC's are not accessible, even though fully shared. My network is Apple Airport Extreme and works perfectly otherwise, including all PC's being able to see each other. Help would be much appreciated

I got the same problem. I want to access my shared folder on my home windows7 from my MBA. Tried many suggestions on the web but all to no avail. I thought that should be very trivial. Maybe a Lion bug?

  • Shared Folders in mail

I'm running a OS X Leopard Server mail server. Since a few days a folder called "Shared Folders" appeared in all mailboxes. Within this shared folders folder there are several folders with strange names:
    ._-Dong-seeiuqi
    ._-Jolie-seignora
    .-seer1990
    ._-seetrus2005
    .-seeun1990
    ._-seiklab
There are now users with these names on my server. I would like to know how this could happen and what it is, and eventually how to remove them.

  • I have 2 Macs, connected to the same Wifi network. But sometimes, the shared computers does not appear on the left hand menu of the toolbar for me to access shared folders between the computers. Am I doing something wrong?

I recently bought a MacBook Air for work. Whilst at home, both my Macbooks are connected to the same Wifi network. Sometimes, the 2 Macbooks are connected and I can access the shared folders, which is great. However, every now and again, the connection seems to be lost. Is there something I need to set up so that every time both Macbooks are switched on and connected to my Wifi, it will automatically be linked?
    Any help is much appreciated!

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • Cannot access shared folders anymore....

    Hi,
We have a naughty problem at the office for accessing shared folders .
We use G5 Xserve + Xraid serving home access to 12 macs.
Our problem started when we updated all machines to 10.5.2 (nor did we have a problem with 10.5.1 or with 10.5.0).
All machines login correctly, fetch their folders with their home accesses located in the Xserve, as allways did, BUT :
·Almost all the machines running Leopard (except two) CANNOT access shared items. They get Error -5002
·The old machines running Tiger (G3 Imac's) acess shared items without problem.
So after many weeks doing multiple tests, we got the following conclusions:
    ·Problem is not server related.
·Problem si related to Leopard clients , although not in all
·Problem is not related to the machine, but with the account (accounts that can access shared items do it on any machine, and accounts that can't, don't do it on any machine)
·It seems that the trouble is related somewhat with Kerberos authentication, but it's not related to tickets (renewing them is no use)
·If we create new account with new name, it can access shared items
·If we create new account with same name that of the faulty one (renaming the later), it CANNOT access shared items.
We have got a problem in the office, and no clue of solving it.... Have read all over apple discussions over the internet, and although some people have similar issues, they are not as close as ours....
And none of the solutions proposed have solved the problem.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, cause we are starting to get desperate
    Thanks everyone.

    new update:
we are able to connect to remote shared folders with a different remote server (dual G4) from every machine
machines who can connect to local server are INTELs, the one who can't are PPCs
    makes any sense to anyone?¿

  • Open Directory and connection to shared folders fail

    Hi,
For testing i've setup an Open Directory Master (Leopard server 10.5.2) with shared folders and portable home directories.
Login and synhronizing works as it should. But once logged in, when i click on the server in finder i just get connection failed. When i choose "connect as" and log in as the same user and password as authenticated at the login to the computer (authenticated to OD) it works.
I thought it should work like a single sign on?
    Any clues?

    Hi
If you browse the discussion forum you should find this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1251475&tstart=0
Basically browsing using the Finder or Side Panel does not work well or breaks easily (as far as I can tell it has been like this since 10.2). In an OD environment trying to connect and getting a ticket using that method will probably fail. The workaround - or the 'fix' - is to use 'Connect to Server' from the Go Menu using the Server's IP address. In my experience it does not seem to matter whether AFP is set to Kerberos, Any or Standard for the authentication method. It also does not seem to matter whether the Server is configured in Standard or Advanced.
I've not come across anything yet regarding Workgroup. Probably in that configuration it may not be an issue as this mode - as far as I can see - is ideal for AD-OD integration. In that environment OSX Server would not be the KDC and mac clients will be using the AD for SSO.
Since this has been happening since 10.2 I don't see Apple addressing this anytime soon, however you never know?

  • Multiple users - shared folders - file permissions

I want to be able to copy and move files between two user accounts so that each user will have read-write permsssions for those files. I have the standard Shared User folder (HD:Users:Shared), and the standard Users' Shared folders.
More specifically, I want to copy or move files to either of these shared folders and have those files take on the permissions of the shared folder into which they are copied or moved. As of now they do not do that; whether copied or moved, they retain the permissions they were created with.
"Apply to enclosed items" only works to change permissions for items already in a folder, not for new items. I haven't found a Folder Action for the purpose, nor anything in Automator that would appear to help.

Easiest sweetest way is to create a read/write sparse disk image and place it in your /Users/Shared
    directory.
The default method for mounting disk images will result in the user having full ownership privileges
of all the files & folders contained therein. Thus when scanning a mounted disk image, and copying
data to/from it, there will be no permission related errors. The implications of this become huge
when you realize that anyone who mounts a DMG will have full access. This allows you to share your
data with other users without having to worry about access restrictions. This can be invaluable when
synchronizing with a "central repository" that you need several users to have access to.
Creating a blank disk image for storage
You can use Disk Utility to create a blank disk image to store files. Normally, you need to gather all
the files you want to be included into a single location before you create a disk image. However,
with a blank disk image, you can add files to the image at any time.
To create a blank disk image, Open Disk Utility:
Choose File > New > Blank Disk Image.
Type a name for the disk image, and choose where you want to save it from the pop-up menu.
In Volume name, enter the name for the volume that appears on your desktop when you double
    -click the disk image.
Choose the size of the disk image from the Volume Size pop-up menu.
To require a password to open the disk image, choose an encryption scheme from Encryption.
Choose “Single partition - Apple Partition Map” from the Partitions pop-up menu.
Choose “sparse bundle disk image” from the Image Format pop-up menu.
    Click Create.
    Resizing a disk image
If you can read from and write to a disk image, you can make it larger or smaller when you either
need to save disk space or store more in it.
    To resize a disk image:
Open Disk Utility. Select the disk image if it appears in the list of disks and volumes, and then click
    Resize in the toolbar.
Otherwise, click Resize in the toolbar, and then select a disk image from the dialog that appears.
    Select a new size.
You can even get fancier by creating a small app with automator that will mount the image, then
place it (the app) in each user's login startup item list. Then the image will mount on the desktop
when the user logs in and will be easily accessible like any other mounted disk.

  • Sharing folders across several computers without restriction?

I thought I followed all of the directions I could find on apple.com so I am asking the community for help.
Here is what we want to do:
I want to be able to access the same things on my laptop as I can on my desktop. I setup shared folders, but they only work when my laptop is on. I don't want to use the laptop all of the time, but sometimes I need to as I have to take it with me to work on a project. I'd like to be able to come home after using my laptop all day and log on to my iMac and then continue my work. Is this possible?
Also my husband would like to do the same from his laptop. He would like that if we are on our laptops that we could share a file, both having read and write access to it. I have tried to mess with permissions from both our computers to give us both unlimited access to all three computers, but it isn't working and when he looks some of my folders are restricted and the same with his.
We need some serious help here and need step-by step instructions because we obviously keep messing something up.
We have Time Capsule, Time Machine and AirPort wireless network. Let me know if you need any other info to help us out and i will get it for you.
    Thanks!

My understanding is holding down the option key while dragging a file from one computer to another fixes permissions. But I've had mixed results. You might look into DropBox or ExecSync. My partner and I travel a lot and have the same situation when we come home. Too bad we can't specify a folder, where we could put current projects, that we could designate MobileMeSync to include in it's sync.

  • How to reproduce the weird phantom shared folders issue (._-blah@blah.blah)

I have the known issue of the weird phantom shared folders in /var/spool/imap/ with filenames like "^_-blah" that show up as folders with names like "._-blah". I have only 2 folders like this and haven't had new ones show up since July 14th.
I've read the old threads on this and would like to try implementing the fixes, however I need to be able to reproduce the folder creation in order to test the success of a potential fix. And I cannot figure out how to reproduce it. I have tried sending mail to ".[email protected]" and/or mail from (and Reply-To) ".[email protected]" via command-line sendmail (postfix) on my Mac laptop on the local network of the server. No combination of those seem to result in a new file in /var/spool/imap/
    1. How can I reproduce this issue? I confirmed that I've not installed any Software Updates between Jun 14th and now (to make sure it's not that it was patched with some update that I installed).
    2. What is the appropriate way to delete these (after I confirm reproducibility, apply a fix, and confirm subsequent non-reproducibility)?
    Thanks!

    This might help...

  • Apple TV3 - Home Sharing Photos

    Hi all,
I would like to share photos with apple TV3 via iTunes "privat release".
On apple TV3 the option is available to take photos.
It tells that it has to be configured via iTunes/Erweitert/Fotos für Bereitstellung auswählen.
I marked the folders with the photos to share, but unfortunately the access via applte TV3
    is not possible.
Is there anybody with an idea?
    Thanks in advance
    chees
    jj

It's a standard JPEG file.  It's bizarre - I copied that file alone to iPhoto and changed my Apple TV photo sharing preferences to point at the iPhoto application.  Worked fine.
Reverted the sharing settings back to the original folder location with all my 5,000 or so photos in and it also worked fine.  Seems that a simple 'reboot' of the settings has resolved the problem.

  • Can't see my windows xp shared folders on my macbook pro

please forgive my ignorance, but i'm trying to access my pc's shared folders (mostly mp3s) from my macbook pro for play on airtunes. airtunes works from both my macbook pro and from my pc to my airport express and powered speakers, however the bulk of my mp3s are on internal hard drives on my pc. can i play mp3s that are located on my pc (the folders have been setup to be shared on network) from my laptop? i can't seem to figure out how to "see" my pc from the macbook. any suggestions where to start?

Hello garwaha. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
To make sure you have your computers properly configured to share files on a local network, please check out the following iFelix article to see if it will help: Sharing files between a Windows XP PC and a Mac running OS 10.4.x

  • Syncing two shared folders

Is there any software that you guys recommend for keeping two shared folders synced up? My scenario is this:
Two Mac OSX 10.6 servers. One on the West coast and one on the East coast. They are working great over OpenVPN on the two routers at each location. Shares can be accessed over the VPN with no problems.
I would like for any change made on a file on either west or east server in specified directories to be recplicated to the other side.
    What do you guys recommend?

if you are familiar with automator i would do it there. i would use this http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/syncfolders.html as a starting point to do something similar.

  • How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?

    Goal
    - I am trying to share both my PC and Mac through my Apple TV2 on the "Computers" home sharing menu.
    - These are 2 seperate iTunes accounts as they are 2 different owners of the PC and Macbook.
    - However, home sharing only allows me to have one at a time, can I not have 2 computers connected?
(The menu is in fact plural and says "Computers" not "Computer")
    Attempt
-I turn on home sharing on my PC with my PC iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as PC
-I turn on home sharing on my Mac with my Mac iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as Mac, but it deletes the PC share
    Troubleshoot
-So I started from scatch and connected the PC share with my PC itunes account, it shows up,
-Then I connect the Mac home sharing with the same iTunes login as my PC, but it also erases my PC from the "Computers" list and just displays the Mac.
    Question
-How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?
-I want them both to show up in the "Computers" list.
-So the final result will look like this on my Apple TV menu:
    Computers
    -PC
    -Mac
whew... I'm out of breath... I hope there is an Apple Genius out there that can help.
    Thanks!

After retrying the home share with the SAME ITUNES ACCOUNT ON HOME SHARING I finally got it to work.

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit) shared folders no longer work with Windows 7 Pro but do work with WindowsXP & Windows 2003

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).

Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.
