Apple TV 2 Stuck on Black Background + Apple Logo

My Apple TV 2 appears frozen when plugged in to the TV. When I restart (either through Remote or by unplugging the power cord)  it seems it's going to start up, but it just gets stuck on a black background with a silver Apple logo.
I've tried plugging in the Apple TV to my computer using a micro-usb cable, but it doesn't show up on the iTunes list of devices.
Any recommendations on how I could restore the device? The nearest Apple store is a couple of miles away and I wont be able to do the trip for a few days.
Thanks.

My ATV2 is also locked up in the same way :-(
This all came about when I tried to run the latest update.
I've tried plugging in JUST the micro USB cable so it's supposed to show up in iTunes but still nothing.
Pressing the down arrow and Menu buttons on the remote (send ATV into DFU mode) hasn't worked either.
Really don't what to do now except take it back to the store.
Not happy.

The screen on my 5C is stuck on black with the apple logo. I cannot get it of function.

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?
If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here:

Thank you for your help, although that didn't seem to do anything either. It just started working again today, yay!
But after trying endlessly lots of things I finally gave up and just let it sit, it was on for awhile until the battery totally drained. I had forgotten about it and today I went to plug it in to charge the battery so I could try another round of possible solutions. I plugged in the usb cable, at first it went to the black screen with the logo. Then as I was about to walk away 10 seconds later I saw the screen light up then the menu appeared. I don't know what was wrong but it seems totally find now. So I don't know what I did or what happened but it seems to be working with no problems again.

  • Ipad 4 updating to ios 8.1 - stuck on black screen with logo no progress bar

So, I downloaded the update for 8.1 on my ipad 4 and trying to install it and I notice it is just the black screen with apple logo. There is no progress bar. Occasionally the ipad screen shuts itself off and then back on. It almost seems like it is working but without a progress bar. Though, I am worried as it has been about an hour or so now and I do not have the slightest clue what is going on.

It appears that the download might be corrupt. But try resetting the iPad and it might resume the download and install of the IOS. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen, when the device restarts, maybe the update will resume.
However, if you continue to experience what you are experiencing, try restoring using recovery mode.

  • Iphone is stuck in black screen white apple logo.Help!

I had a notication to update my IOS so I let the update run from my phone. Now my phone is stuck on black background with white apple logo. It has been this way for about 45 minutes. I tried connecting to itunes. Trying to restore my phone. Tried turning it off and on. Nothing is working. I have it plugged in right now and I am holding down the power and home buttons, it goes black for a couple seconds and then the logo pops right back up. Any advice?? I can't get the phone out of this screen.

You may have to place the phone in DFU mode and restore to factory condition using iTunes. Search the web for the procedure.

  • HT204204 My phone crashed after updating it to IOS 8. I can't use it cause its stucked on the start up menu, the apple logo with black background.

    Hi to all,
I hope someone can help me. My phone crashed after updating it to IOS 8.3. I can't use it cause its stucked on the start up menu, the apple logo with black background. Even when I restart my phone, it is still stuck on the start up menu, the black background with apple logo in the middle.

    Slone,
I finally decided to turn this annoyance into an opportunity.  After a lot of experimenting I found that my iPad was just fine under 7.1 if I simply restored it as new.  I have a lot of time on my hands and I had 1424 apps on my iPad!  This is why every attempt to restore took so long.
I decided to restore as new, spend a day restoring the apps I really used.  Doing so gave me a quick iPad with only bout a quarter of the storage used.
Granted it was a pain in the arse, but I wrote it off as in the old days when you had to do this with windows 95 just to keep a stable system.
I DO have some data in a few files of the now unused backup but a quick google search finds a couple Mac programs out there that will allow you go extract audio recordings, app data files etc. from the backup.  I'll do that someday if I even miss the files I've probably forgotten that are there.
Anyway, there was nothing wrong with my hardware.  I think there were just some troublesome setup items that 7.1 didn't like.  Once set up as new, the ipad was fine.
    Good luck!

  • Screen stuck on Grey apple on black background with backlight permanently on, no LCI

I would be really grateful for some help in mending my 15 month old iphone 4S please!
I had never had any problems with the phone until last week. It had been at around 80% battery and, on picking it up, I was surprised to see that the screen was black and that it appeared to be off. It looked like it had run out of battery so I plugged it in to recharge.
On charging, the screen just shows a black background and grey apple and the backlight is permanently on. So I have tried/checked 3 things:
    1) I have tried pressing home and power and then home, but the same screen returns.
    2) I have plugged it into itunes for a restore/recovery. I thought it was going to work as the itunes connection picture appeared on the phone. Itunes then went through its restore process but at the end it came up with error 4005. 'The phone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred.' I do have the latest itunes installed and am at a loss as to know what to do next.
    3) I have looked to see if water has got in but the Liquid Contact Indicator is not on.
If anyone has any ideas on how to go forward, I would be very grateful!
    Kind regards and thanks
    Shirley

  • Powerbook stuck at black apple on grey background...

Tonight I have witness a strange event with my Powerbook:
I started my Garageband programme and while this was happening suddenly a very high pitch sound took over from iTunes in the background. Also the computer seemed to freeze. I might have panicked a bit as the sound was painful. I switched off the computer by pressing the on/off button for about 6 sec.
When I tried to restart, the dark grey apple icon would on light grey background, the HD seems avtive and nothing happens for hours (I have tried 2-3 hrs). I have then switched it off again, and restarted in T-mode. The Firewire icon would appear on the screen, but the icon would not appear on the iMacG5 I have connected it with.
Unfortunately, there is a non bootable DVD stuck in the optical drive so I cannot try booting from it, as I do not get it to eject.
Not sure what to make of this!
    Do you have any suggestions?

    Bernd,
This is a question for those who know Macs really well, which is not I. Sometimes it's interesting & educational to all to guess, however.
Why didn't you turn down the speakers or pull their plug first? If you were using the computer's speakers, did you have the volume turned up all the way? When GarageBand starts, does it turn on the computer's microphone for input? You see where I'm going with this: could the screech be caused by feedback from the speakers to the microphone?
Also, there was a time (I think) when using Quicktime to handle two different applications that ran audio at different bitrates caused a whine. That was patched some revisions ago. Finally, two sound-producing applications that compete for the speakers can produce a whine as a (faulty) scheduler tries to run both by quickly alternating between the two.
I'm not sure the whine (which you can reproduce?) is related to your boot problems, however. They are more likely related to pressing the on button to shutdown. (I didn't know one could even do that: the PowerBook doesn't have an off button.) MacOSX needs to do many chores as it shutsdown: quit each application you were running (and a decision it can't make, such as whether to save changes you stored in memory or delete them will stop the shutdown), quit the OS's processes, and update the disk's information about the filesystem with changes held in memory. Then it writes a bit of information stating the machine was shutdown cleanly.
If you had held down a mouse or touchpad button when starting, the optical disc should have been ejected, and the computer should have booted Darwin from the hard disk; then, noting the clean-shutdown bit was unchecked, it would have performed a long test of your filesystem's integrity before starting up MacOSX normally.
The grey Apple appears while your computer is looking for the boot drive and reading the booting information off its disc. If it can't find an acceptable boot device, it stays at the Apple. If it is confused, it displays all those it found and asks which you want to boot from. It found two drives, neither in perfect shape for booting.
Why it didn't boot slowly from the hard disk would appear a mystery. It's possible that starting with the 'C' pressed saved in Open Firmware the location of the boot disk: the optical one. Disk Utility doesn't check whether a disk is bootable, so the 'clean shutdown bit' stayed unchecked.
I'm guessing that, with the optical disk removed, the computer showed a grey Apple, then a choice of bootable disks it found; and you chose the hard disk.
Important questions are still unanswered, of course. And, much of the above is guessing (to encourage an expert to correct my guesses and address the whine question definitively); but it gives you bits of information to read about yourself, if you're interested.

  • Mac Mini 2014 Boots With Black Background/White Apple

Mac Mini Specs: 2014 Model with 2.6GHz processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, Intel Iris Graphics, Mini-Display Port to DVI adapter with Dell monitor
Issue: When booting the Mac Mini up it goes through a very standard Yosemite boot but the background is black and the apple and progress bar are both white.  The issue is entirely cosmetic in nature and doesn't seem to have any negative effects.  What I normally expect and have seen in 30+ macs upgraded to Yosemite is the same loading but with a grey screen.  It's worth noting that I have noticed this issue on 2 iMac 2010s that had been upgraded to Yosemite that belonged to some friends, but their issues were intermittent or fixed.
    Steps Taken:
Updated from 10.10 to 10.10.1 and installed all other available updates
Checked the Start-up Manager, Recovery, and Internet Recovery.  All have black backgrounds and internet recovery's globe is small then normal.
    Reset SMC and NVRAM
    Tested Safe Boot
    Erase and Reinstall OS X
    Removed all peripherals except monitor
Tested another monitor and DVI cable
    Tested HDMI without the adapter
Replaced Mac Mini with new Mac Mini
    Questions:
    1. Have you seen this issue before and what are the specs of the device it occurred on? (OS, Model, Year)
    2. I wonder if this might be expected but can't find anything to reference that it would be and didn't get any answers even when asking people at the store or over the phone.  Have you seen any articles/pages that talk about this issue?
    3. Can you think of anything else to try and resolve this?

This is normal for the newer machines running Yosemite. There's nothing wrong.

  • My ipod keeps on flashing the apple logo in a black background and i cant get it to turn on does it take a simple restore to fix this?

I need help my ipod touch 5g running ios 7.0.4 wont turn on all it has been doing is flashing the apple logo on a black background i cant stop this does anybody know what to do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Stuck with black screen with Apple and download bar approx 1 quarter done. Downloading Yosemite. It has completely stopped. I can't access anything. Please help

Stuck with black screen with Apple and download bar approx 1 quarter done. Downloading Yosemite. It has completely stopped. I can't access anything. Please help

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • My I Phone 5 Screen shows bright white apple logo on black background continuously

My I - Phone 5 is continuously showing white apple logo on black background. It started this morning after my phone was charging overnight.

Try a hard restart, hold down the HOME button and the SCREEN LOCK button simultaneously until the screen turns off and release only when the Apple logo reappears.
