Apple TV 2 through Surround Sound

I just bought Apple TV 2 as my Dad wants to stream football games onto our New Hisense SmartTV. My only problem is that I want Apple TV to play through the LG DVD reciever surround sounds speakers instead of the inbuilt internal TV speakers. The surround sound speakers already works with normal TV channels and I want to keep it that way but want able to play it also with ATV2. At the moment ATV2 is only playing through the internal speakers, making me having to change the sound settings on the TV, so that internal is on again. The DVD receiever doesnt have HDMI only analog ports and an optical in. If i buy an optical fibre cable and run it from the ATV2 to the dvd receiver will that make the sound work through the speakers?
What's the best / easiest way to go?

Yes, Toslink Digital Optical cable is cheap from Amazon and connects from Apple TV into your audio receiver (the device to which your surround sound speakers are connected). BUT Make sure you have the Audio & Video setting in your Apple TV right (Doby Digital, etc.) and that when you are playing Apple TV through your surround sound speakers. If no sound comes out, make sure that your surround sound device (DVD/Blu Ray player, etc.) is set to the right function: TV, not DVD or regular audio.
This blog has a short tutorial about this too: http://www.caramooneydesigns.com/blog/2015/01/12/how-to-connect-your-apple-tv-to -surround-sound-speakers/
Hope this helps!

Can I hook up my apple tv to my surround sound system, but keep my regular tv hooked up to the surround sound as well?

If your audio amplifier has multiple hdmi imputs, you can connect the apple tv to one and the tv to another.
Works well for me, and now I can mirror itunes to get the new itunes radio on the music system, and have the tv system also work.

  • How can I connect my apple TV to my surround sound system without running any extra cables?

I have my Apple TV connected to my TV via HDMI. The TV is connected to an auxiliary box that outputs sound to house speakers. I don't want to run any additional wires because of the distance to my auxiliary box and the fact all my wires now run through the wall. Also the auxiliary box lacks any extra HDMI ports.
On cable, the TV sound plays surround sound, but on the Apple TV sound plays from the TV itself.
Is there any way to alter settings on the TV (LG LB6100 Smart TV) to change the sound source?

if you have a router and set it up for wifi and have ethernet plugged in then point your iPhone to that router and it will connect to the ATV.

  • Trouble getting sounds through surround sound

I recently bough new Apple TV, I have Samsung TV, Samsung DVD surrounds sound system and PVR. Have tried to connect Apple TV to the current setup but only way to get sound is by plugging the optic cable from PVR into Apple TV. Can anyone possibly run me through setting up from scratch? Thanks

This is something you need to configure though your TV and or "entertainment/surround sound system".  It has nothing to do with AppleTV.  So no one on this fourm would be able to help you.

  • Sound no longer playing through Surround Sound via TV

I have had my Mac Mini for about a year now and recently purchased a new 3D LG TV.  Prior to that I had another LG hooked up through it and have a Panasonic surround sound system set up with I believe it's a Gefen digital to analog converter, because unfortunately LG only makes digital and alls that is available is analog through my surround sound.  I have always been able to listen to my computer through the surround sound, however, since I purchased this new TV I have not been able to.  The sound plays through the TV speaker but will not play through the surround sound yet when I change inputs over to my PS3 or DirecTv I can hear everything else except my computer.  This is why I am convinced it is the computer and not the TV.  I don't know if I'm missing a setting or something needed to change for this type of TV or what.  I am pretty technical when it comes to electronics so I have tried changing all different types of settings and played around trying to fix this but so far no luck so who has an idea or ever heard of this before?

    @mndwgz and Lousyfool
Sorry for the delay, however, I was out of town and just getting back to this issue.  I'm not 100% positive but I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the computer settings or something of the sort because like I said prior to me switching tv's it has worked no problem, both of which were connected the same exact way.  Both LG tv's only have an optical digital output port on it while my Panasonic surround sound only has an A/V input.  To solve this I have a Gefen Digital to Analog converter in between the connection from the TV and the Surround Sound, so my computer is not connected anything in between the computer and HDMI connection to TV.  Sound comes out of the TV through the computer but will not bypass through the TV to the Surround Sound.  However I know it's not the TV settings because my PS3 regardless of the HDMI input plays sound through and over all my speakers.  I have not tried rerunning my computer through the old LG LCD tv connect the surround sound as well to see if it worked because all the way up until I switched to an LED tv, it had.  It's weird how this is a problem but have tried switching settings, changing inputs, problemsolving etc. but just don't see how my PS3 is converted through the tv to the converter to the surround sound and my mac mini is not!

  • FM radio through surround sound speaker

    Hi!
I hope someone can help me with some suggestions: My new house has 5 built-in speakers in the family room - they are wired into the cupboard (no connectors on any of the wires). We don't want to hook a TV up to it (we have this set up somewhere else) but we really would like to, simply, listen to the radio through the speakers.
How do I this? What do I need? I don't want it to be expensive (and I am really not into lots of high-tech equipment!)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi LJS736,
What kind of connection exists to hook up a source to the speakers?
The answer may be as simple as an adapter cable to come from a headphone or line out jack on a boombox/radio to the connection for your speakers.
You also may want to consider expanding the radio possibilities by using an HD radio receiver or satellite radio instead of traditional FM radio, giving you many more channel options.
Below are a couple suggestions for HD or satellite radio.  Good luck!

  • Play itunes through surround sound

    Hi,
just wanted to ask if anyone knows how to play itunes through all 5 speakers of a surround system, and not just the front two (i.e. stereo)?
    Many Thanks

I bought an iMac instead. Much better/easier solution.

  • Can I connect imac to HDMI and also Surround sound also through HDMI using the thunderbolt sockets via an adaptor into a HDMI?

I want to be able to connect my imac to my TV and Surround Sound, from what I have read the best want of doing this is both via HDMI. Before I go out and buy another adaptor for a second thunderbolt to HDMI I was wondering if this would work? I basically I want to be able to stream videos from Imac to TV with sound coming through surround sound and also when I am on itunes have the music come through the surround sound. At the moment I have an adaptor (thunderbolt to HDMI) which goes into the TV and a optical cable from TV into the surround sound, then I also have a 3.5mm from the imac to the Surround sound, but I find this lacks in quailty. Would upgrading to a HDMI work and be better ? Should I also look into an optical cable though I dont see how to connect this to the imac?

OK. From what I can tell here, the Sony HT-SF2000 has 3 HDMI inputs & one HDMI output, so the simplest hookup would be to connect the iMac to one of the the Sony's HDMI inputs via the Thunderbolt-HDMI adaptor, & connect the Sony's HDMI output to the TV's HDMI input.
Use the Sony like an HDMI input selector for the TV (plugging in your other HDMI devices, if any, to it). Use the HDMI input on it from the iMac for both movie & iTunes sound output, & for TV output for video. (You can even use the TV as a second screen for the iMac.)
If for some reason you want a separate input for the iMac's sound output, you can use the optical input on the Sony for that, with a TOSLINK cable connection to the iMac. You will need either a Mini-TOSLINK adaptor or a TOSLINK to mini-TOSLINK cable to connect to the audio output of the iMac.

  • Connecting IPOD video to surround sound HELP PLEASE!

    Hi!
I have been trying to connect my ipod to my surrond sound system at home, but everytime I plug it in all it says is "Do not disconnect" and won't let me go to my menu to play songs. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I tried that but it didn't work... I need to get my ipod to not say "do not disconnect" in order to play from the menu.... does that make sense? It's plugged in correctly and is a brand new ipod so I'm not sure why it isn't working. I called apple, but since my surround sound is an RCA and not an apple device they can't help me....

  • Apple TV...how to connect to get sound through my sound system (I have a satellite receiver and also Russound system)

Just hooked up my Apple TV.  It's great.  I have a satellite receiver and also a multi room sound system where I would like the sound to come through.  Can anyone tell me how I would connect to accomplish this.  My HDMI is connected so the sound is coming through my TV just fine.  I would like it to come through my sound system instead.  Your assistance is very much appreciated.

    Hi:
My system is as follows.  1 only HDMI output on TV.  I purchased an HDMI switch box/unit.  I have the output from the Switch Box Unit going into my TV.
I have 5 inputs on the switch box unit.  2 I have used.....
1 input from my television satellite receiver
2 input from my Apple TV
    My other equipment is
1 home theatre system.  This is where the sound from my TV goes through
1 russ sound whole home sound distribution system
When I play my Apple TV I am still getting the sound of my satellite TV.
This suggests that your satellite receiver is connected to your "home theater system" (which I will shorten to AVR "Audio/Video Receiver") for audio. Is this correct?
If so, then your problem is that you're switching video inputs, but not audio, and what I listed as (2) applies:
    2. You can connect the ATV to the TV using HDMI. Then you can either:
2a. Connect the TV to the AVR using an optical cable for audio.
2b. Connect the ATV to the AVR using an optical cable for audio.
You've connected the ATV to the "switch box" instead of the TV, which amounts to the same thing, as you're just expanding the number of HDMI ports on the TV by using the switch. So your simplest solution is either 2a or 2b. If your TV has an audio out port, and it's the same kind of port that your satellite receiver uses, you can just disconnect the audio cable from the satellite receiver and plug it into your TV. You may have to enable "external speakers" or whatever they call it in the TV settings. This would be best, because then you wouldn't have to change inputs on the AVR to select the correct audio; you would just change inputs on the switch, and both video and audio would switch between the satellite box and the ATV, solving your problem. Note that an optical cable is required to get Dolby Digital 5.1 audio (surround sound), and I mention that because it's possible you're using an analog audio (RCA) cable. So an optical cable is best.
Beyond this, I would really need to know your TV and AVR model numbers, preferably accompanied by links to specification pages or manuals, and it would be very helpful to know how the satellite receiver is connected to the AVR for sound.

  • How do I connect Apple TV and surround sound to my projector?

My current set up is that I have a projector connected to my Blu-Ray player. My surround sound speakers connect to my Blu-Ray player. They all came in the box together and the speaker wires all go into the Blu-Ray. Everything works perfectly.
However now I have bought an Apple TV and although I can play it through the projector, the sound is only through the projector and not the surround sound. I tried plugging the Apple TV in the HDMI in the projector and then connecting the Apple TV to the Blu-Ray via optical cable, but that didn't work.
In the back of the projector there is 1 HDMI port and an audio port but no optical port
In the back of the Blu-Ray, you have the speakers, the HDMI, the audio in and the optical port.
How can I connect everything so that I can use my Apple TV with surround sound?

The manual doesn't say anything an optical port on the BD ?

  • ATV3 - I need to enable dolby digital for optical surround sound (netflix and home movies), but when I do this it stops audio coming through TV speakers

I have a cinema sound receiver connected to Apple TV via optical cable.  When I have dolby digital set to Auto it doesn't come through as dolby digital when watching movies on netflix and iTunes (home movies).
If I set Dolby Digital to ON it works as expected, but the sound stops working through normal TV speakers (via HDMI).  This is the same for netflix and home movies.
I tried 16 bit setting, but it made no difference.
Any advice on how I can get this working - meaning Dolby Digital always on for when I turn my surround sound on and sound through speakers for normal operation?
Obviously I can change the setting when needed, its just a pain.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello everyone,
here is the friendly and signed driver installation method to enable Dolby Digital Plus in your Encore internal speakers only. This is not an official driver, there is no control panel for Dolby Digital Plus or various sound effects, but tested and has much better and richer surround sound quality as before with factory driver. I guess, this driver tweak can work with any Bay Trail tablet also.
How can you upgrade Encore sound drivers:
    1. Download signed driver package and extract.
    2. Open Device Manager.
    3. Upgrade your Sound, Video and game controllers
    - Intel SST Audio Device
    - Realtek I2S Audio Codec
one by one with "Have a disk" method.
    4. Double click enabledolby.reg file and add to your registry.
    5. Restart, and enjoy better sound quality.
    Thanks.

  • How to make itunes play through all 5 of my surround sound speakers?

    Hi,
    I'm new so hello everyone
Received some very nice 5.1 surround sound Logitech x-530 speakers this Christmas and they are absolutely brilliant. I tried them with a DVD and the surround sound is really good. However, I can't seem to get all the speakers to play my music through itunes, i.e. only 2.1 stereo sound is played through the 2 front speakers and subwoofer. I understand that this is because MP3 is recorded in stereo sound and so only plays through 2 speakers, but I'm hoping that there is a simple way to do what is described in a similar thread here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=817792&#817792
The answer to my problem is described as "Rear speaker cloning", i.e. playing the same music through the rear speakers as the front. However this is from almost 5 years ago so I'm hoping that there is now a clearer solution to my problem- could I even solve my problem simply through itunes preferences? Or do i need a specific program/driver?
My "Soundmax" sound card came bundled with my ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus mobo, if it's any help.
Many thanks in advance. I would really appreciate any help or advice.

  • How do i hook my ATV through my surround sound and then to my TV?

    Hi,
I have just bought a Samsung HT-Z120 to play music and video with my ATV through my TV. However i have a slight issue connecting everything together harmonously.
Currently i have 3 RCA components connecting the TV to the Samsung HT-Z120 (surrond sound system) and a HDMI cable connecting my ATV to my TV.
I need to connect the ATV directly to the surround sound but the connections i have left on my surrond sound and ATV are an optical output on the ATV and a audio out and video jack on my surround sound. I know this is a silly question as one is fibre optic and the other is analogue, but is there anyway to connect all this together?

    BPERRO wrote:
No unfrotunatley there is no HDMI output on the surround, neither is there an optical. All i have is 2 rca point and 3 rca component point. I bought it second hand thinking it was a good deal, however i now realise my mistake.
Im not sure im going to be able to make this work, unless there is a magic answer involving the two remaining audio jacks from the surround.
Thanks for both of your replies...
The Apple TV only supports HDMI and Optical Output. I took a look at your Samsung product specifications online and it is a bare bones unit. You will not be able to connect the Apple TV to your Samsung product.
