Apple TV 2 to Non-HDMI TV
Is there any type of conversion method I can use to connect my Apple TV 2 to a Non-HDMI TV. The Apple TV only had the HDMI port and I am looking to connect my non-HDMI tv to Netflix. I bought a VGA to HDMI cable on ebay, but it doesnt seem to be working. Thank you very much to anyone that can help.

Well that blows!!! All I want to do us watch Netflix and the occasional iTunes rental on a tv that doesn't have hdmi inputs. It supports 720p. Is it a conspiracy to get people to "upgrade" to a tv that has hdmi inputs? I don't want circumvent copyright protection, I just want to be able to use this tv for something other than just watching dvd's and satellite programing, without having to buy a new tv.
The "almighty" must have calculated that to make more money means selling more product, and that would mean accommodating those that might not have "hdmi" inputs. I have the ability to buy many more atv2's, but why? If it means I would have to "break the law" in order to use them as they were intended?
If you were using them "as intended" your TV would have a compliant HDMI input and this thread would not exist.
There are many choices in TV streaming devices, many of those choices have connectors other than HDMI, choose one of them instead or get a new TV.
As Apple appear to be in the minority in only providing HDMI it's not much of a "conspiracy" is it now.

Apple TV on non HDMI TV, Apple TV on non HDMI TV
Can I operate an Apple TV device with a non HDMI TV (has Composite, VGA, Scart).
Do I need an adapter (cable) or a converter?I found a solution on a help-site called Macmanus.nl, it's an even more elegant solution that a regular converter :
- a cable with an integrated DAC-converter
- HDCP-compliant
- tested to work for Apple TV 3
Google for "fixed : using the AppleTV on an HD-ready TV without HDMI-input" -
I want to buy a new apple tv but it used hdmi cables and my house is only wired for analog. Is there any way I can use the apple tv on analog cables?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)
DAC
DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances) -
Video out from MBA to non-HDMI television?
Hello, I'm sure this has been asked in the past, but . . . Is there anyway to get video that is streamed over Wifi to my MBA 13" late 2011 to connect to my circa 2003 Hitachi plasma TV without HDMI?
The TV is cabable of showing 780 HD video (I have an HD cable box), but right now I use component video cables from my cable box. Options would be some sort of Thunderbolt to component cable converter (if this even exists) or some way to connected a non-Wifi enabled TV to the Web. The TV has componet and composite inputs
Someone told me that the Wii will output to composite. True?Hi there.
Glad you are enjoying the wide variety of apps available on the App Store.
To connect your non-HDMI compatible television to your iPad, you may try using a component cable for iPad (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC917ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE) or a composite cable for iPad (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC748ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE).
While the VGA adapter will work if your television supports VGA, I am not certain of (and would not recommend) using an adapter.
Hope this helps, and good luck getting your problem solved. Let us know if you need any additional help. -
I have a theater with a Runco projector but non HDMI. alas, my receiver is non HDMI. Changing electronics and projector is a non-starter.
I would like to be able to buy HD movies on iTunes and watch them by streaming via Apple TV3. My plan is to capture surround sound from the TosLink digital out, which my preamp/receiver can handle. For the video, I need to convert the HDMI to RGB component to feed my receiver.
This is where iTunes DRM and HDCP issues might arise. I am under the impression that I need an non-HDMI compliant converter so that ATV3 can even talk to my receiver. It is my understanding that this is possible and takes care of the HDCP issue. But what about the DRM issue? All I want to do is buy and watch HD movies, no bad intentions. I find it incredible that iit might not be possible.
Anyways, is there a 100% certain approach even if it costs up to $300-400. Again, changing hardware is a non-starter so please avoid the obvious "buy an HDMI amp and projector".

Connecting ipad2 to non-HDMI television
To be very specific, HBO go is fantastic. But I want to watch on my old toshiba big butt TV. Because HBO go is much better than just having HBO on Directv.
Is there any way to connect? I was thinking I could use the VGA adapter and then find a way to adapt from VGA to component. But I have a feeling that won't be so great.
Does a HD->SD conversion need to take place?

How can I mirror my ipad2 to a non HDMI tv. I have a plasma tv that takes rca and component cables
Not sure you can on an older model TV.
You can connect via a cable or wireless using an Apple TV.

I have got a Activation Lock on my iPhone and I need to get it activated. I don't know what Apple ID I was using with my iPhone. It shows as U***@h******.uk which is too short to be my email address. I have reset all my Apple ID passwords and none are activating my iPhone. I have also been into the apple store and they have tried to find out the Apple ID my iPhone was using but this was not successful. The serial number of my iPhone is: C32JN641DTWF
You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

will apple tv work with a hdmi splitter of some kind ? TV only has 2 hdmi ports and both are being used .
If splitter will work any recomendations as to best type to useThe Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can. From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance. The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs. Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA. I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000. Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected? I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are. I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4. Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch. -

the colour on my apple tv is not right. the only colours are black white green and purple. i have retatrted my apple tv and chenged the HDMI cable all with no success.
any suggestions of what else i can try?Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)
If this doesn't help, try it on another TV, if the problem persists you possibly have a failed unit. -
my tv does not have hdmi, it has componet. Is there an adapter for apple tv to go from hdmi to componet?
It could be that it's too old. I have the same problem. Apple has a HDMI to DVI adapter, if you have a DVI input, which is how I connect my Apple TV. But if not here's an adapter for you.

Nevermind I just installed it to try it and it's awesome, so happy right now, Thanks. All the things I had read about it on third party sites led me to believe it could not do extended desk tops, thanks for your help!
