Apple TV 2 won't load library - Homeshare issue?

I have two Apple TV2s that link into my iTunes library held on my PC. Until recently both worked very well, but following the recent update, neither will pick up the library and load it.  The Apple TV can see the library, but when I try to load it, it delivers a "can't load library - ensure the library is on the same network" error, or just returns me to the main menu. The network connection is fine - the ATV picks up YouTube and all the other internet based sites. It can also pick up and play music from my iPad and iPhone via Airplay. I can only assume it's a home sharing issue. iTunes shows the two ATVs on the Airplay section.
I've checked the settings for Home Share and they're ok, I've tried rebooting the router, rebooting iTunes, rebooting the ATVs, switching off/on the home sharing options, all without success. The fact that both ATVs have stopped simultaneously suggests it's not a hardware issue.
My PC runs Vista 32bit, router is a DLink 2740b, Anti-virus is Microsoft Security Essentials.
Any help please! Its driving me mad.
Cheers
jb

A couple of things I forgot to mention--
When browsing movies after restarting my computer, it no longer seems to load the artwork

  • ITunes won't load library from external HDD.

I'm a DJ in Miami. I have 1TB+ of music. I have it in my HDD that I've used for months with my Macbook Pro Retina. For some reason I opened iTunes a couple days ago before a gig & my HDD wasn't loaded to the library. I went into the preferences & chose my HDD again but when I click apply it just closes the window & nothing happens. My music & playlists won't show up. Everything is still on my HDD so I know that's not it. I even formatted my Macbook & installed a fresh copy of Mavericks hoping that would solve it but it won't work. I have a backup HDD as well but iTunes won't load it either.

I think if you are using iTunes in a semi-professional capacity you need to learn how it works:

You will normally only have one .itl file.  It is the library file, along with a smattering of support files and folders.  Most of your files are just media files but it's the .itl that gives it all structure.  The reason I can't answer your question is most people don't understand "library" has a specific meaning in iTunes.  It isn't just media, it's the whole lot working together.  Now some people split their library and keep the main files on the main drive, and media on the external.  Better is to keep it all together, either on internal or external.
You should have a .itl file somewhere.  Conceivably if your drive is corrupt or something weird happened then it might be gone.  That's what backups are for.  If nothing else you should have old copies of the library fro when you last upgraded iTunes.  Did you do a spotlight search?
If your library file is really gone then you will have to build it again:

  • Apple TV update won't load

I've been able to connect and activate my Apple TV -- a process which required using an ethernet cable to bypass my firewall -- and can access Netflix and rent movies, etc via iTunes. However, the update won't load (I've tried 21 times) and I can't access Hulu Plus or my photos.
I'm now on my second Apple TV, having been advised by a Mac computer specialist to take back my first one and exchange it, in case it was the root of my problem; however, I'm having the same issues with the second on as with the first. I exchanged my Apple TV on January 26.
I've had my server connections tested by Time Warner and happily, I'm running at a blazing fast speed; everything on my laptop loads beautifully.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • WRT54G Wireless Setup page won't load and other issues.

Well I have had quite the mess the last 24 hours. I'll start from the beginning and attempt to spell out the issues I am having. I have had this router for 4 years or so and have never had a problem.
I recently purchased a PS3 and started using the wireless feature that it offeres. Well I was having problems staying connected and was running in to IP address conflicts with my laptop. So I thought I would cure that by moving the router to the ps3 and using a wired connection for its internet. So that is what I did and that is when the problems started snowballing!!  After I got the router moved and everything set up, all seemed well at first.
Shortly thereafter I realized I was still getting IP conflicts. So i did some research and saw where I could dedicate an address for the ps3 and also change some of the wireless settings on the router homepage. I previously had never password protected my network. I'm in a rural area and there aren't many people around that would be trying to get on it. But I figured since I was there I would rename the network and password protect it and all of that. Well that didn't help either. I was still having problems.
I then did all of the resets. Online, on the unit and also a power cycle. So I was back to square one with the settings at this point. So today I noticed that my connection would go from its norm of 54mbps down to1 and then lose connection. I did the resets and restarts and all of that, to no avail. Then it got to the point where it wouldn't connect at all. I checked the actual connection by connecting my computer directly to the modem and it worked flawlessly. So I know it is a router problem. I also tried using 2 seperate laptops and they both responded the same.
I think part of the issue I had then was that the modem and router were on my entertainment center and weren't very high and were in a shelf. Also, my surround sound receiver does use a wireless connection to 2 of its speakers. I didn't know the proper placement of a router until I had this problem. Now that it is back in its previous location the connection seems to be normal, although once in the last hour I did drop down to 1mbps and have to disconnect and reconnect. But it hasn't happened again so far.
However, I am unable to access the wireless page on the router setup page. I did yesterday but it won't load today. On either computer. So I am unable to change the name of my network or assign a password or change any other wireless setting. And again, I've tried every reset method and it still don't work.
Also, does anyone have any advice on the conflicting IP addresses with the ps3? They sent me an email stating that it may be a port or firewall issue? After doing some online research it seems this particualr router has had a lot of problems getting along with the ps3.
I hope I haven't put in too much information but I was just trying to make sure I had any questions I could think of answered ahead of time. I've tried about every avenue I could already. I tried the chat help and was told I didn't qualify and was sent to the phone assistance who after a half hour realized I didn't qualify for that help either. So, here I am!!! Thanks ahead of time!

Make sure that there is no static IP address on any of your computer. You can assign a static IP address on Play station.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Download t he latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer.
Open the setup page of the router. Go to Administration tab and click on Firmware upgrade sub tab. Browse the firmware file that you have already downloaded and upgrade it on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on your router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.
Change the MTU size on the router to 1365.
Go to Wireless tab and change the wireless network name and channel to 11. Also change the wireless security settings.

  • ITunes won't load-library locked

iTunes was frozen this morning. After Force Quitting and re loading I got an error message taht said the library was locked/I did not have permission.
Tried the fixes posted eralier in this forum (copying library to desktop and replacing, confirming permissions of the music library). None worked. Now iTunes loads (progress) but doesn't see music anywhere on the computer even though there' s a 6.8MB file called iTunes Music in the iTunes Library.
    Any ideas?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    TIm,
I have experienced similar problems recently after moving my large (150GB) iTunes library to an external harddrive. I received the same error, as well as the dreaded "exclamation marks" and I had "disappearing music files" too.
Did you move your iTunes library?
Ensure that the iTunes folder of music is either in your Music folder or there is a link to the location (I have been using Symlink for this - a Unix symbolic link plugin). You can also hold down the Option key as you start iTunes to locate the file manually.
One thing I did which helped the iTunes library was to run Apple Disk Utility and TechTool Pro. For some reason, the library was corrupted in the move and was behaving strangely. You might try that.
Let me know if this helps!

  • Apple store page won't load correctly help!!!

I am having the same problem in the apple store page. In Firefox works just great, but on safari wont load. I tried restoring safari, restaling it, and also cleaning fonts cache...
    Suggestions????
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Appearance tab.
Make sure:  Display images when the page opens is selected.
If that box was already selected, try deleting the cache associated with Safari. (not the same as emptying the cache from the Safari menu bar.)
    Quit Safari if it's open.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
For Lion v10.7x:  To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Try Safari.

  • Apple Hardware Test won't load

    Hi,
I'm running OS 10.9.4 on a late 2011 MB Pro and am unable to boot up to the Apple Hardware Test partition. Also won't boot to system install USB flash drive. Any help wold be much appreciated.

It's option key to boot AHT cd. You can run it, but firmware and OS updates makes the disk veriosn obsolete. So don't panick over a false positive.
I would backup files and c boot from the installer disk, select Disk Utility and Repair Disk/Permissions see if that works. Also disable hard drive sleep in System Preferences>Energy
If not repeat above and Erase w/Zero option and reinstall the OS. If your going to bother with all that, might as well make the jump to Tiger and iLife '06 (not included with Tiger)

  • Home share won't load library

I have two PC's.  One has all of my music and is running Vista.  One has no music and is running Windows 7.  I set up Home Share and it worked great for about a week.  Now I can't get the libary to load on the second PC. I can see the library, but when I click on it it says "loading" for 10-15 seconds then acts like nothing ever happened. I've tried opening ports on both computers.  The most frustrating part is when I'm on the Vista PC I can load the library for the Seven PC, which is empty, but when I'm on the Seven PC I can't load the library from the Vista PC, which is where all the music is.

  • HT201317 why my apple tv 3 won't load all photos from my photo stream

I have over 500 pictures on my Photo Stream and it shows on my iPhone 4S and on iPhoto o my MacBook but on my Apple TV it only loads 10 pictures. What is going on?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device, it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

  • Apple website pages won't load on Safari/IE

c2002 eMac that had to have the OS reinstalled. It is running Safari 1.0.3. I have installed all updates via the software updater and the issues I am having are the aluminum keyboard is no longer functioning correctly. When I go to apple/support to download updates the page will not load fully on safari preventing me from installing the needed updates.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your time.

Good advice from a brody, but might try this... could be a bit different for 10.0.x, can't remember...
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply.
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON?
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Open System Preferences>Network>Configure>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.

  • Iphoto won't load library after lion install

i did a clean install of lion on a formatted disc, them used migration manager to transfer my files.
now iphoto will not load the library. any library. i have two backups, both of which i have tried, but i photo just sits spinning it's gear symbol.
what's my best course of action do you think?

so i imported one of the backups by dropping it into the iphoto window.
Never import one Library to another - which you have done. As you can see, it's a mess. Massive duplication, missing metadata, organistion and so on. Simply, importing one Library to another is just not a way to do anything.
Restoring from back up means simply opening the restored Library.
    As to repairing the others:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto won't load library after upgrade (10/31/2011)

I upgraded my iPhoto yesterday through the AppStore.  When I opned iPhoto, it told me it needed to upgrade my library.  During upgrade a status bar showed the ongoing progress until it reached the end.  At that point the left column listing my "Events," Photos," "Faces," albums, etc. showed up, but the main space where the thumbnails/photos should appear remained grey with the round ticker (or whatever it's called) indefinately spinning (for at least 6 hours).  If I quit iPhoto, it would again ask me to upgrade my database everytime I launch it.  I can create a new library, but cannot opn the one I have.  I have seen other posts, but don't know if they apply to my situation.  Any help would be greatly appreciated (I have about 18k pics, which I would hate to lose!!!)
    Thanks!

You have a back up, of course?

  • Apple TV won't load complete Aperture library

I have a large Aperture library back to 2002. Apple TV 2 won't load the library further than 2008, despite it being checked all the way back to 2002 in Home Sharing. How do I get it to load the whole thing? Is there a limit? I am working with a MacBook, Snow Leopard, and Aperture 3. Thanks.

I couldn't say for sure if there is a limit to the size of a photo library, but there have been problems reported when using large libraries. How many photos do you have, mention has been made to problems with libraries of over 20,000.

  • Help! Tried to reset my admin password but now my computer won't load!

HELPPPPP!!! I tried to "hack" into my iMac to reset my administrator password by holding down command + s and then typing
    mount -uw /
    rm -rf /var/db/ .AppleSetupDone
    shutdown -h now
Not only did that not work but now when i turn on my computer it just stays on the plain apple screen and won't load.  I'm Freaking out!!

There is no way out but to get a new OS disk from Apple store and you're home free, so to speak

  • Safari & Firefox: Won't load pages with images

Everything was working fine one night, and then the next, I couldn't load any pages with graphics. The one caveat: Google loads without a problem, even a Google image search. Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs. Thoughts?
I've seen similar posts, but none of them really apply, and the only one that did, didn't have an answer.

Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs.
You're saying that, in addition to images not loading, pages are loading slowly or not at all, as well?
If this is the case, then the problem isn't isolated to images. It sounds more like a problem accessing web pages altogether.
As a troubleshooting measure, try setting fixed DNS addresses, either in your router's configuration or in System Preferences -> Network. For the latter, click on the network connection that you use, e.g. "Airport" or "Ethernet," then click on the Configure button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and enter a pair of fixed DNS addresses in the section with that label, as follows:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
You can copy and paste those directly from this forum into that DNS address field.
(Those are OpenDNS addresses, available for use by anyone. DNS addresses are the addresses of servers that tell your web browser where to look when you type a web page address in your web browser.)
If that doesn't work, the problem lies somewhere else. But your symptoms (slow or no page loads; and even when pages load, images not loading) sound a lot like the DNS problems I had before I started using alternate DNS addresses.
