Apple tv 20% more expensive in Canada?

Why is it that even though our dollar is pretty much equal too the US dollar the Apple TV costs $119.00 at the Canadian Apple store?

Well on the uk apple store it is £101GBP - that's approximate $160USD.
Even if the US price doesn't include tax (5% I remember the last time I was there) that'd be around $105USD.
$55USD of a difference.
I'd like to hear that explained
it was £99 before the VAT went up to 20%
each US state has a different tax, and they are not all the same.
each country wil have different import rates as well.

  • Why Apple products are more expensive in Europe than US?

In Spain, the Iphone 5s cost around 700€, but in United States cost less 200$
    Why is more expensive here?

Check the US price for an unlocked iPhone. The price you are looking at is the carrier price IF you sign up to a two year contract.

  • Why is the iphone5 so much more expensive in Canada than in the US??

With the Canadian dollar near parity, why is the cost of the new iPhone5 so much more in Canada???

    It's not.
Announced US pricing is for a subsidized device on 2yr contract.
All other pricing that I have seen for iPhones in other country's is for non-subsidized devices.

  • Why are the new iPhones much more expensive in Canada?

Looking at the Apple Canada website I see that the iPhone 5C is priced from $599 (yes - 500 and 99 !!), whereas the US price is $99.  The difference for the 5S is similar.
Why this huge discrepancy, and will it be corrected soon?  I certainly don't plan to get one anytime soon if not.

Thanks for that.  I didn't take enough notice of the fine print, but it's odd that Apple should advertise it differently on the US and Canadian online store websites.
I will wait and see what (if any) deals come along via my carrier.  I'm due for a new phone anyway.

Accessories can go on sale in differnet places and not every where has a price match policy

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.

  • Im looking at the iPhone UK price when compared to the US price. That is the equlivant of £123.49 by todays conversion. Thats 428% more expensive in the UK!!!! Either Apple have the price wrong in the US or are you ripping us of in the UK!!

That is the equlivant of £123.49 by todays conversion. Thats 428% more expensive in the UK!!!! Either Apple have the price wrong on US or they really are ripping us of in the UK!!
Im hoping that the UK price is incorrect!

You are comparing Apples and oranges. The US states the price for an iPhone that is subsidized by the cellular provider. The UK price is for an outright purchase.

  • Why is apple Australia so much MORE expensive than America!?

so tell me, Why is apple Australia so much MORE expensive than America!?    i have been meaning to pick up a new imac.....and i saw that the exact same type of imac that i want i could pick up in America for a good $600 LESS.... you know, even though our dollar is HIGHER THAN AMERICA'S! *** APPLE!

    Reasons:
    Australian import duties
    Australian taxes on foreign imports
    Australian VAT
Got complaints? Talk to your politicians. Apple has nothing to do with it.

  • I was wondering if anybody can tell me why the new Apple iPhone 5 is $600 AUD/US more expensive in Australia than the US??? Please explain somebody?

I was wondering if anybody can tell me why the Apple IPhone 5  is $600 US/AUD more expensive in Australia than in the US!
    thanks

Thanks for the reply - I still know that this issue is also relevant for so many other apple products which don't involve cellular providers.... I think Australians are tired of paying so much more for things than in the US and other countries.  It used to be explained by the poor Australian dollar but that doesnt exactly work when we are over parity with the US dollar and have been for a while now....

  • Why is the iPod touch considerably more expensive on Apple's own website than others?

For example the 32GB iPod touch is £249 on Apple but only £219 on both Currys and Argos, and cheaper again on Amazon?

If they are authorized resellers, then buying a new item should give you an item as good as anything you would get directly from Apple itself.  Authorized resellers meet strict contractual agreements with Apple to earn their authorized status, so the products they actually sell will be identical to the same item, sold new, at an Apple store.
Apple pricing is a bit of mystery often.  Resellers agree to a number of terms or limitations on how much they can alter the price as set by Apple itself, but I gather those limitations are different for different products.  Usually, for example, Apple computers vary little in price from Apple or any reseller, but resellers can bundle "extras" like RAM or hard drive upgrades over stock build, or software, to sweeten their offerings.
As you mention, iPods seem to be one of the most variable priced items, so maybe it is just a matter of Apple giving resellers more latitude with them over other products?

  • If I wanted to upgrade my iPod touch to the more expensive version, how long would I have to do so? (UK)

If I went to an Apple store in the UK with my 16GB iPod touch 5th gen and the receipt (do I 100% need a receipt?), how long after the purchase date am I allowed to get it replaced for the more expensive 32GB version? Is it the same as getting a refund (Jan 7th)?
Not having a camera on the back side of the iPod is just ridiculous, I don't honestly believe the majority of people would prefer to have a camera on the front rather than the back. I'd rather just get it upgraded.
    Thanks for any help.

..Is there any way I can trade it in for the 32GB iPod touch at the Apple store for it's RRP .
Sorry... Apple does not do Trade-Ins.
You would need to sell it privately and put whatever you get for it towards what you want to buy.

  • Why is a monitor more expensive than a hd lcd tv

why is a 30 inch hd lcd monitor £1900 when you can buy a 32 inch panasonic or a sony high definition lcd tv with digitl buit in, hdmi sockets and use it for every thing for £1400?
can some 1 explain this to me, you can even get samsungs for £1050 which is less still.
can some 1 explain this to me, and dont try to tell me that the apple display will give you a far better picture because it wont

Its to do with resolution. The Apple monitors support a higher resolution, therefore, require individual pixels. So, on a 20" monitor, the resolution is 1680x1050, on a TV screen, this is usally 1024x768 or 1280x768 (widescreen). This is because most broadcasts are 500-lines or so for normal definition, or 720 or scalled down from 1080 for HD resolution. But computer monitors are used for multi-tasking, etc, so require a high resolution to open lots of apps and view them at the same time. Making these panels requires a more expensive manufacturing process to get the panels made with the minimal of errors and dead pixels. A 30" LCD TV for HD would have a resolution of 1376x768 or 1280x768, the Apple HD monitor has one of 2560x1900 - way better - this is why it'll be better to get a Mac monitor for an extremely sharp picture with no scalling of HD footage, you'll get the full quality.

  • Why is the iTunes shop in Australia more expensive than the rest of the world?

Why is the iTunes shop in Australia more expensive than the rest of the world?

How do you know that there is not parity?
Do you know Apples expenses in each country?
Apple has to sell the music for the price that they can negotiate with the owners of the distribution rights in each country.
Perhaps those who own the rights to distribute the music in Australia simply negotiated a higher price.

this is a user response forum, i'm not sure what you think we will know. Apple doesn't reply here. you would probably have to contact the main Apple HQ in Australia to have a chance to get any kind of answer.

  • Album more expensive than sum of tracks

I've found that with some albums, the album is more expensive than all the individual tracks together.
For example, take Staind's new album:
    http://music.ovi.com/za/en/pc/Product/Staind/Staind/19390411
Note: I can only see the South African pricing - don't know how the pricing works in other countries.
It contains 10 tracks, costing R8 each, giving a total of R80.
However, the album costs R100. Why is the album more expensive? Does it contain anything more than the tracks? This is one example, but I've seen a few others as well.

No reason to buy a more expensive album, if you can get the individual tracks separately for less.
I have no insight to record lable pricing. This one sounds a bit like an accident/mistake.
Compare also the pricing in, e.g., Apple's iTunes store and other music services that are offered in your country; if they sell the tracks or the album as MP3's or AAC's, or even WMA, you can use them on your Nokia phone. Make sure you buy them without any DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection ("plain" audio files).
