Apple TV 2nd gen remote does not pause a Netflix movie

Streaming from Netflix works fine, but the Apple TV remote cannot pause or stop the movie without completely coming out of the Netfix App. Pause / play button does nothing. Menu button puts up the previous Netflix screen, but the movie keeps on playing in the background.
Remote works fine under all other circumstances. Apple TV firmware is up-to-date.

did you resolve this, i am having the same problem.

  • Apple TV (2nd Gen) - Tv does not reconize HDMI or ATV

Hi, I purchased ATV last night, My tv - Sharp (LC-42D62U)does not recognize or show anything when I plug in the HDMI cable and ATV. I tried both HDMI slots on the tv, powered down everything and powered up and tried another HDMI cable. Researched online and some folks had a firmware upgrade needed on their Sharp tv, my particular model does not offer usb slot and the Sharp website does not have a firmware upgrade available for my tv. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Note that, in all the examples you provided, third party solutions are used. Now, while it's not physically impossible for a new update to be made for older devices, Apple decides what hardware would be required for the OS to work reliably. For example, the iPad 2 is the oldest iPad that can run iOS 8, and you'll see a fair number of performance complaints about it. Had Apple also made iOS 8 compatible with the 1st generation iPad, the performance would likely be even worse. And since only Apple makes and distributes OS updates for its products, you won't find any workarounds, like you did for AirPlay by using AirParrot.
If you think Apple should make an entirely new device, you can go to http://apple.com/feedback/appletv.html.

  • Apple TV (2nd Gen) + Remote not working

My Apple TV 2nd Gen / remote isn't working.
When I press any button on the remote I get no response at all from the Apple TV unit (no flashing lights etc).
I've replaced the battery with brand new battery, still no joy.
I've tried the "hold menu rewind for 6s", still no joy..
    Any ideas?

Also to be clear, the Apple TV unit is displaying an image on my TV screen and I get a solid white light all the time.

  • Apple TV (2nd gen) suddenly will not let me get onto network.

I have tried resetting my Apple TV  and router; I can usually see the network name when I go to connect, but it will not connect when I put in password. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? I have Windstream internet service and recently made some changes with the internet service, so I am guessing a configuration is off somehow. Apple TV will let me to go Troubleshooting but only tells me things to check; will not let me into the IP Address settings etc. I am stumped.

appletv connect to devices which interduce themselvs as bluetooth keyboards laptop does not do that
same as you can't use 1 macbook as bluetooth keyboard for another you can't use a macbook as keyboard for an appletv buy a bluetooth keyboard

  • Sky Go content won't play on Apple TV 2nd Gen

I have a UK Sky Go account and can download video to iPad.  When I activate Airplay to Apple TV 2nd Gen it will not display. Apple TV works fine with iTunes downloaded content.
Any options/ideas to get this working??

While I am pretty sure I had tried it, I just did a little rearrangement within my stereo cabinet which resulted in moving the Apple TV to another shelf.  And of course unplugging it to move cables.   After powering it up and redoing some of the setup, the movie plays properly.   So maybe a power cycle was needed.   Or maybe the problem resolved itself and the power cycle just coincidently happened at the same time.   Either way, my problem has been resolved.

  • HT1657 Rented movie on Apple TV (2nd gen.) unavailable?

When I go to play my rented movie on Apple TV (2nd gen.) I get the message the movie is unavailable, try again later. It's been unavailable for over a week now. How do I get credit or make it play?

You can either wait until later or go to expresslane.apple.com and seek help there.

My Apple TV (2nd Gen) won't boot it'a a blinking fool, and Reset does not work... Is it time to by a new WD Live or is it just me? Thanks All..
If I mess this up ... sorry it my first time....

I found this after posting here:
    http://trick77.com/2011/02/04/apple-tv-2-with-white-led-flashing-blinking-fast/
It appears that this is due to firmware corruption and you can fix it by using the micro USB cable and hooking it to iTunes.  I have not tried it yet but supposedly several people were able to resolve their problem this way.  If you do try it, let me know.  I don't have the cable at this time.

  • Apple TV (2nd gen) not showing up as a device in iTunes

    Hi all,
I have this problem. The Apple TV (2nd gen) does not show up in iTunes under devices, and I really don't know why.
    Mac OSX 10.6.5
    iTunes 10.1
AppleTV 2nd gen with latest update installed
Network is a WiFi Airport Extreme (Mac and AppleTV are indeed on the same private network)
Airplay works, home sharing works fine. Remote App on iPad and iPhone works.
But the AppleTV is not showing up under devices.
I had a 1st gen AppleTV which I reverted to "factory settings" before unplugging. The 2nd gen ATV had the same name as the 1st gen at the beginning, but I changed it afterwards figuring it might be related.
Under iTunes > preferences I had the AppleTV tab. But I did read somewhere on Apple's site you have to "delete" the AppleTV from the list. So I did, and now the tab cannot be found anymore...
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you in advance.

I seem to recall though that I have seen a screenshot somewhere on the web where iTunes showed the ATV 2nd gen as a device.
Not seen that, but the old ones have a logo that look (to me) like the new one, or at least a small darker grey than they are - they show up nicely in the iPad/iPhone Remote app though
If you are right it would be huge disappointment!
I believe I am correct as I've got new/old AppleTVs connected to 3 Macs and a dual boot Mac Pro currently, and the new unit has never appearede under devices.
.... I really HATE the interface organization right now. Why on planet earth do I have to go under "devices" -> "computer" -> "music" just to play some music?
You, me and many other AppleTV 1 users. I think they'd finally got it right in 3.02 for AppleTV 1 which is a much nicer user interface. Basically now the majority of the top level columns are unused by many people who don't rent but want to playback theit iTunes media.
I firmly believe Apple see this new AppleTV as a relatively cheap accessory for iPads/iPhones/iPods to show video/photos via Airplay on your TV without using a computer.
Secondly it's a vehicle for pushing itunes Store rentals, but for the majority of worldwide users they can only get Movie rentals, and Netflix is of no use bar in a few countries (US/Canada).
I would have much more preferred that a "music" tab (it also applies to all other tabs, movies, tv series and so on) and then just a list of all "home sharing" connected computers from which I could pick the one where the music is stored. Or even, and being Apple it surprises me they didn't implement it, just the list of the available music on my network, with a little tab indicating in which computer it is located.
Yes that would make absolute sense - a dynamic list of available content based on connected libraries that changes as new libraries appeared on/left the local network.
The new menu organisation is quite shoddy to me, ut many users new to AppleTV like it and rave about the devices not knowing what the old one could do - it's a good device don't get me wrong, but I still prefer the older units except for their power consumption and the fact I feel they are more likely to fail due to their high temps and mechanical hard drives.
But here I'm venturing FAR off topic.
    Don't think so, it's a valid comment.
    Use this:

Thank you for your help anyway. I wait for confirmation of somebody else just to make sure...
    Fair enough.

  • HT1947 Cant update my Apple TV (2nd Gen) with Remote app?

I have been using the Remote app on my iPhone 4 top successfully control my Apple TV (2nd gen) for a while now after my Apple TV remote dropped in the toilet and stopped working! Now my Apple TV needs to update (Update Now/Update Later) and when I try to connect the Remote app to the Apple TV the Remote app just spins continuously and never finds the Apple TV, therefor not allowing me to select "Update Now". What to do? Do I now need to buy an Apple Remote? Hoping I dont have to.

Hi and thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately this didn't solve the issue. I tried almost everything now:
    - I rebooted the WIFI rooter
    - I resettled the apple TV
    - I removed the cables of apple tv for a minute (I have a switch anyway to cut power off completely)
    - I killed the remote app on the iPhone and iPad a few times
    - I removed my account settings both on the i-devices and apple tv for home sharing a few times and activated them again
All of the devices are in the same wifi network and every device can connect perfectly to the internet.
The screen on the iPhone/iPad always just shows that I should activate home sharing on iTunes on the computer or on the apple tv with my account (what I did as mentioned above)
Any ideas, someone from Apple maybe?
    Any ideas appreciated!

  • Does Apple TV 2nd Gen Get iOS 6?

Does Apple TV 2nd Gen Get iOS 6?

Apple TV (2nd gen and 3rd gen) run do run a variant of iOS.
I'm not in the developer program so I don't know when an update will be available but clearly it is not available at the moment.  Two possible reasons, Apple is holding off so their servers are less loaded as the more "mainstream" iOS devices update, or they simply haven't finished developing the Apple TV iOS 6 release yet.
I saw a youtube video from someone in the developer program demonstrating that one of the new feautres is that you can rearrange the icons on rows 2 and down.  So if that is something that is exciting for you, then you have that to look forward to.  I don't know what other features will be part of the next release.

  • HT1947 Apple TV (2nd gen) and Remote App - no more connection

Since updating to the latest version of Apple TV (2nd gen) and Remote App for iPhone or iPad I can't connect any more. Worked for a short moment after restarting a few times but now no more. Must be a new bug, because it always worked before updating to iOS 5.1!
I tried with an iPhone 4S and and iPad 2.

  • HT1551 I just ran an Apple TV (2nd Gen) update. Now it's not working!

I just ran an Apple TV (2nd Gen) update. When it finished, all that appears on the screen is an iTunes logo and a picture of a cable beneath it. Also, the light on the Apple TV box flashes incessantly. What's going on?

Do a search for older articles with the keywords "appletv white screen".

  • MacBook Pro Early 2011 - Airplay Mirroring only sends audio to Apple TV 2nd Gen

Ok, I'm stumped by this one. I have a 15" MBP Early 2011 edition and an Apple TV 2nd Gen. Airplay Mirroring from my MBP to Apple TV only transmits the audio -- the MBP will resize the screen like it's connected to a 16:9 device, and Apple TV will show a black screen like it's about to pick up the video signal, but no video transmits. A couple of times, video started transmitting, but it was about 30 seconds delayed (?!) and extremely choppy. Both devices are connected wirelessly to a Linksys router with 5 GHz (wireless N) capabilities. The router has been configured to Apple's recommendations for Airplay Mirroring.
A little more about my MacBook Pro:
    Early 2011 Model ID: MacBookPro8,2
    OS: 10.8.2 Mountain Lion
    CPU: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6490M, VRAM 256 MB Total
This problem is driving me crazy! Airplay works flawlessly between my iPhone 5 and Apple TV, but not with a much more powerful laptop. Also, I tried Mirroring from a friend's 13" MacBook Pro, and it did the same thing.
Any suggestions, tips, ideas, etc. to get this working is appreciated!

your macbook dont support airplay mirror
He has an Early-2011 MacBook Pro, which does meet the requirements. The issue is that it is running OS X 10.7.5 and needs to be upgraded to Mountain Lion to use mirroring.

  • Apple TV (2nd Gen) no longer recognized

Apple TV (2nd Gen) no longer recognized since I changed broadband providers and installed a 5th Gen Airport Extreme. Apple Remote App on iPhone suggests I turn on Home Sharing on the Apple TV but I cannot get to the Settings to do so.  Any help appreciated.

    not necessarily.
you also need an itunes store account for that particular country. you can't just change the store location and get access to all the content.

  • I thought that whatever was on my iPad screen would be duplicated on my tv when I got apple tv(2nd gen)...am I missing something?

I have an iPad 1 and just bought apple tv 2nd gen.  I was under the assumption that once hooked up I would be able to see everything on my tv that I did on my iPad...so either
    1. I did not do my research...and I suck
    2. I do not know what I am doing
    Help please

You did not do your research
    1. iPad mirroring is coming with IOS 5
    2. It is only for iPad 2 (not the 1st one)
    http://www.apple.com/ca/ios/ios5/features.html
That model does not have mirroring capabilities, you can buy the AV adapter and certain apps that have video out enabled will work.
