Apple TV 3 does not show movie rentals in standard definition

I am a bit surprized as I have now ATV1 and ATV3 and I compare both of them onthe same TV. I noticed that iTunes rental store shows icon to rent the same movie in SD and HD on older ATV (1st gen), but on new one it offers only HD version of the same movie ("A Christmas Story"). Why is that? Some may want to save some money on those older movies that do not require HD.
Is this how it is supposed to work or there is an option to be enabled?

My old ATV1 shows SD movies in any resolution. I hope you know that ATV 1 was already 1080 (even though hardware was not strong enough and it overheated). That is only ATV2 was downgrade to 720p.
So why would I change resolution to see store SD offering? Your recomendation does not make sense.

RESPONSES:
1)   When I set up my iMac, I did not transfer any data directly from my windows PC. I simply used the same iTunes login and account. I have access to all of the files via the "Purchased" section of the iTunes store. If I click "Download Previous Purchases" text, I can download ALL of the purchases I have ever made.
2)   I have the Apple TV 2, so good news, question answered. I thought maybe it was the Apple TV 1, but it is the Black model, so bam. Good response for you. Well the whole damned reply is an awesome response, just pointing out that one piece of awesome. I stated that it was an Apple TV 2, and yet you were still good enough to figure I could be mistaken, and provide me with knowleedge just incase.
QUESTIONS:
3)   So can my iMac not stream the data directly from itunes, without download? Apple TV can, but perhaps that is something among many things that maker it unique, and awesome.

I work in the computer support section for the Military. The only problem is we use Windows , lol. Well that and i've been gone for nearly 6 months on recover. I go back next month though I hope. But working in that field gives me the abilty to judge responses that run inside the same vein. Your response was so awesome that I half thought I might have written it myself.

I have the same issues with my 4S, can anybody help? :(
The maps just turned a beidge color and slightly green when it set into standard mode, but it's just fine with hybrid & satellite modes.
Oh, the photo maps also appears as the maps on standard mode.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Spotlight does not show Movies, Maps, Wikipedia or Websearches

I'm looking att all these nice features that Spotlight should have, but quite a few are not working for me.
I'm running a Mac Mini on 10.10.1.
When looking at the spotlight preferences I have 22 categories to choose from. Maps, Wiki and Movies are not not listed amongst the categories.
I have no idea if they should be there, but the internetz seem do indicate that they should.
I can see why Movies do not appear as I'm not living in the US and I believe that those are fetched from Fandango. Perhaps this is also true for Maps
if this is in fact Yelp rather than Maps searches (not sure why that would be). But why no Wiki ? Wiki actually DO exist outside of the US, and
why not letting me use it just because I happen to live in another country ?
I've seen that Language & Region settings seems to be a candidate for this behaviour so does this mean I have to switch system language or region (and
screw up all time settings) just so that I can get Wiki to show up on Spotlight ? If that's the case I'd very much like Apple to fire someone.
Bing Searches is listed as a category, but when moved to the very top I still never get any web search results. Any ideas about that one ?
Same Language/Region issue ? If yes, than that is even more ridonkeylous than the wiki one. It basically means that there has to be a
line of code where it checks if language matches the region and actively remove the bing results rather than not just run that search.
All in all Spotlight just doesn't seem to be nearly as useful for actual users if you live outside Cupertino to be honest. Much disappoint.

When you hover over a file in spotlight list (or select with up/down arrow) you can also hit command-R to open the folder where the file is located. Kind of like 'Show Original' for aliases.
But yeah, Apple really needs to just show the directory path on the hover pop-up by default. Obviously, when you do a search you'll most likely get several files with the same name - we need to see the locations to tell them apart. One of the main reasons to do a file search is to simply find out 'where the file is located' - not necessarily open the file. Seems pretty shortsighted to not show the file location in the search result.

Ever since aptv update my apple tv menu does not show apple movies or TV shows. I am able to access my music, rental, etc on my computer iTunes. any ideas what can done

ever since updating my apple tv to the latest software, my on screen menu is missing all the apple shows and movie catagories plus netflix is gone from my internet menu. I have home sharing turned on and able to listen to music from my desktop also see any movies I rented from apple on my desktop mac. Any ideas what could be happening.

Apple TV (2) does not show TV shows or Music

I have a new AP TV (2) which I have just set up. However in the menus on the first screen I do not have TV shows or Music.
my iTunes account is linked as Movie's are there and work fine.
Does anyone have an idea as to why they would be missing?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
TV shows are only available in limited locations (N America), there is no music menu, you can play music from your computers itunes library via the computer menu.

Front row (with itunes 10) does not show moves from shared library

I have two computers. My office computer contains all of my iTunes content, running iTunes 10. I have a mac mini connected to my television, and my intent is to use Front Row to access the shared library from the office computer. The problem is, when using front Row only a small number of my TV shows and none of my movies appear. I have checked the sharing settings on the source computer.

Exact same problem here.
It has been working fine doing this for years, then around a month ago after no changes to either machine that I know of, about half the content vanished when viewing a shared library.
I seem to have also worsened the issue by trashing and rebuilding the iTunes library from scratch. Since at least before doing this I had some of my Movies and TV shows show, but not all, now I seem to have a tiny amount of movies and none of the TV shows listed.
Checking on the source computer in front row shows all of them present as expected. Completely baffled by this. None of them are showing under odd sections (Say in Music rather than TV Shows) either so I know the meta-data isn't at fault.

I have purchased a new computer and am trying to put my itunes / Applie ID account to recognize my new computer. I only have 2 other authorized accounts in my Apple ID. I also am trying to sync my iPod Shuffle but it won't authorize that either, which did not work on my old computer either. I have reset it to manufacturer settings but still have never been able to download the songs in my iTunes account. I'm frustrated!!

Apple TV (1st gen) does not show up in iTunes 11

I have a 1st generation Apple TV. It seemed to be working fine, except that my shared music did not appear under My Music. I thought maybe there was a connectivity issue with iTunes, so I decided to disconnect from iTunes and then re-link to iTunes. The problem is, the AppleTV does not show up under devices in iTunes. If I go to Preferences-AppleTV, it does show up with a status of "syncing", however, the Apple TV does not show it is connected to iTunes. I tried removing it in Preferences-AppleTV on the iMac, but it reappears after a few minutes, again with a status of "syncing". I have verified both the iMac and Apple TV are connected to the correct network, both have the correct AppleID and password. iMac is running Snow Leopard, iTunes 11.02 (absolutely HATE version 11), Apple TV 3.02.
Two questions:
1. How do I get iTunes to see my Apple TV so I can enter the 5 digit code and connect?
2. Once that is done, how do I get it to show my shared music library (Movies and TV shows were there previously, just not Music)?

I have the same problem. It was working fine up until the last update for iTunes 11.0.2
Here's the details:
I have an Apple TV - first Gen and up until a couple of weeks ago, was regularly playing sync'd iTunes music and videos through it on a daily basis.
I see other devicess showing up in the "Devices" list in the left panel of iTunes (such as iPad, iPhone, etc.)
AppleTV used to be there consistently, then disappeared upon update to 11.0.2
Apple TV also does not show up in the devices tab under the Preferences window.
I have tried multiple suggestions on the support forum but none have worked.
Apple TV is able to access the network, is on the same network as the iMac with iTunes library connected. Both are connected to network via ethernet cable (not wifi). Both are able to access the internet (apple tv plays movie prieviews and gets updates). Using the Terminal app, I am able to ping the apple TV's IP number from the iMac and get a successful return.
Both have latest software downloads.
I have tried cold-booting the apple TV, resetting the router, and verified in the router device list that both imac and appleTV are listed as active, un-blocked connections.
I don't intend to buy an Apple TV 2nd gen or later (since I bought this one and it's not working now due to software update, what guarantee that a later model won't generate the same problem later.
One last wrinkle, I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old who are jonesing hard for their "dance party" fix.
Have you ever wronged a two year old?
It is NOT pretty.
