Apple TV 3 - Onkyo SR706 - TV: No video
Hello,
I am having a problem connecting my Apple TV 3 to my Onkyo SR706 and I am stumped!
The problem is that I see no video passed through the Onkyo to the TV.
However, I am able to hear the audio through the speakers that are connected to the Onkyo.
Additionally, this set up works perfectly for my original Apple TV 1 (with hard drive).
Here is my configuration:
[AppleTV3 (HDMI Out)] ------HDMIcable---> [(HDMI In) [Onkyo] (HDMIOut)] -----HDMI/DVI cable--> [TV (DVI IN)]
When I boot up the Apple TV3 I am able to see the Apple logo for about 5 seconds, then the screen goes black.
I am able to hear the audio through the speakers that are connected to the Onkyo.
I have modified the Apple TV HDMI output settings to no avail: Auto, 720p, 1080i, 1080p...etc.
I have tested connecting the Apple TV directly to the TV as follows:
[AppleTV3 (HDMI Out)] -----HDMI/DVI cable--> [TV (DVI IN)]
This works properly but is, of course, without any audio passed via DVI.
Does anyone have any experience with this combination of hardware or with this issue?

I have the same problem. I use Handbrake to convert files. Since 2009 I have use the AppleTV2 HD setting for conversion of my videos. The problem is the video file for AppleTV2 HD exceeds the specs for AppleTV 1st gen. This are listed as:
1280x720 @ 24 fps or 960x540 @ 30 fps for .m4v, .mp4 and .mov files. AppleTV 1st gen accepts DD 5.1 but not 6 channel. I have had to convert most of my files to play on my AppleTV 1st gen. Not a fun exercise.

Yes, you can use the 85 watt adaptor. You cannot use the new adaptors because your computer is not equipped with the proper MagSafe connector. But you can use the older MBP adaptors as well as a 60 watt replacement adaptor. All can be found at Apple's Online Store.

Recently Got a Mac Book and was wondering if there is any software that Apple recommends to import my music/pics/video from my Iphone onto my computer. I no longer have the previous computer and if I sync my Iphone I'll lose everything.

You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup! (Windows tip). For a Mac use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner.

You used the data. Verizon can not see what it was sued for. However your phone can see whats apps used the data. go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle. line the dates up with your cycle. then there will be a bar graph below that extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right. after those are extended below that will be a list of apps, there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

MichaelYopu can stream it on the AppleTV from the internet under Movies > Purchased (or Purchases? I can never remember which!) which will bypass what's in iTunes provided AppleTV is configured in Settings for iTunes store for 1080p.
If you want a copy in iTunes, then go to Preferences and change download preference to 1080p. Then delete the 720p copy and redownload from the cloud (iTunes home page icon > Purchased link on the right). If you delete the 720p copy and it goes to trash or recycle bin, you can fish it out of there and add to iTunes later if you need a 720p version too (or SD if that gets trashed with the 720p copy).
Note - currently you cannot upgrade SD purchases to HD. Even for an upgarde fee.

Not all apps are enabled for airplay, this is up to the developer to do.

recently purchased a new Mac Pro w/ mountain lion 10.8 and I am using my Apple 30 inch monitor. When watching video or browsing certain websites, my monitor will flicker grey and sometimes lock up. I am a video producer so this is quite frustrating...I figure it is the grphic card or I am missn a plugin or driver update? help!

Using Apple Dvi-Composite adapter for playing S-video/Composite video on...
I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the DVI-Composite/S-Video adapter and instead of attaching it to a laptop, attached the DVI part to a monitor and then used composite/s-video out from a DVD/VCR player and hooked it up to the monitor direct? I have a 24" monitor that I was hoping to attach a DVD/VCR to and turn it into a tv.

i have an older yamaha receiver and projector both without hdmi inputs but component video instead. I would like to get apple tv and start renting movies through iTunes but apple tv only supports hdmi and ive read that iTunes has codes to prevent the use ot analog cables with movies. Is there a way to adapt hdmi to component video for both apple tv and iTunes easily?
Yes, HDMI is the only supported method. Also, with converters you will run into issues with HDCP (which will prevent you from streaming DRM content from iTunes etc) as well as resolution.

You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer. How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.

I have several movies and home videos stored in itunes, when viewing these on appletv, it mixes all the movies and home videos together.
I would like to beable to select either Movies or Home Videos when viewing on the Apple TV if this is possible...?You have 2 options:
1. Create Video Playlists in iTunes (for example create one for Home movies, the other for Movies)
You COULD make these Smart Playlists. (see below for one technique)
NOTE: If you wish to do this don't miss the preference in Settings to enable Video Playlists at least (at least in the latest ATV updates) I believe it's under Audio setting. Amazingly the default is NOT to show!! (had me going for quite a bit)
2. Set up your Home Movies as "Music Videos" This has some gotchas: like you'll probably want to choose the skip when shuffiling, also Now they'll appear in music lists. The only advantage to this is that it makes playlists more available on iOS devices since there are no Playlists displayed in the Videos App.... (yeah Apple's made this WAY confusing of late)
If you wish to keep these clearly defined (especially for use with Smart Playlists.
Select the movie
Get Info (Edit Menu) (or Command-I Mac, Control-I, PC)
Choose the "Video" Tab - you can select your desired type from the Media Kind pop up.
Alternate method for setting up smart playlist of home movies would be to set the Genre to "Home Movie"

Apple Multiple Scan 1705 - usable with modern video cards?
I still have an old Apple Multiple Scan 1705 display which I've been using continuously since ~1995. Even though I don't have a Mac anymore (I know, I know, mea culpa), I hooked it up to my PC and it has worked great. But, I recently received a newer hand-me-down PC from my sibling. It didn't come with a monitor, but I thought that would be OK as I could just switch the monitor from my old system to the new system.
As it turns out, it's not that easy. When I boot it up, the monitor goes blank after POST, usually between the XP screen and the welcome screen. Sometimes I can actually get as far as seeing the desktop, but the screen usually goes blank before I can navigate anywhere. It works fine in safe mode, though. From what I've read on the Web, this would appear to be an "infinite loop" problem, where the OS and the video card stop speaking to each other.
I may be on a fool's errand here, trying to combine a PC video card (an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS) with an Apple monitor which is ten years older than it. I've done some basic troubleshooting, such as reinstalling the video card drivers and visually inspecting the hardware and connections. But I wonder if it is even possible for the two to communicate properly. For the record, I'm running Windows XP SP3. Has anyone else been foolish enough to try this?
My girlfriend hates the bulkiness of this old CRT monitor and wants to get a flat panel anyway, but while I save up for that, it would be nice to be able to use the new computer with the old monitor. Even if it won't work, I've gotten 13 years of use out of the monitor, so I certainly got my money's worth. But I thought I'd check with the community and see if there's any life left in the old display.
Thanks for your help!In Windows XP, in order to change the resolution for the monitor, you have to right-click on the desktop and select "Properties". This bring up "Display Properties". From there, you click the "Settings" tab. This gives you some basic options. For a wider selection of resolutions and refresh rates, click on the "Advanced" button. Then select the "Adapter" tab and press the "List All Modes" button. This lists all the available configurations for resolution, refresh rate, and colors. I fiddled around with these, trying all of the configurations that were supposed to work according to the Apple Multiple Scan 1705 specs. Unfortunately, anything other than VGA 640x480 60Hz would cause a "blue screen of death".
My girlfriend had indicated that she wanted to get a flat panel display anyway (to get back some of that desk real estate), so I decided to cut my losses and buy a new monitor. Unfortunately, I now have the exact same problem with the new monitor. So, it seems the problem is not with the monitor after all. Or, at the least, that's not the only problem. Once I resolve what other hardware/software issue is going on, I'll see if the 1705 display will work. But for practical purposes, you can consider this question resolved.
