I just bought an apple tv v3 and am not able to find videos on Vimeo using the search.
I see many posts regarding the problem but no solutions.
Any new info?

Netflix on Apple TV not showing search results

Hey, a few months ago the Netflix search function on my Apple TV stopped working. I do the search in the search box, but the area on the right, where the search results are supposed to show, remains black. I have restarted, signed in and out of Netflix, tried all I can think of with no results. This is only a Neflix on Apple TV issue, as all other Apple TV apps have the search function working fine.
Please help!

I had this exact problem and finally thought to check online at the Apple forums here for an answer. This came up after looking at one or two other questions in the search.
I'm happy to say that the restore of the Apple TV worked. Search in NetFlix on the Apple TV now shows results.
My Apple TV is the latest generation I think, have had it for almost two years. It was already upgraded to the latest Apple TV software. I'm guessing that a bug snuck in at some point over the years and over multiple software updates.
Upon restore, I noticed a feature I didn't realize existed, which is that you can start using the Bluetooth in your iPhone or iPad to immediately help with Apple TV setup. You need Bluetooth on and to place the device near/on the Apple TV. This is a feature I know I've seen many commenters request, but apparently not realize this was possible? Or maybe this is a new feature in the latest software update?

If you have the latest model of Fifth Generation iPod, you can access the Search function by by navigating to: Music > Search from your iPod's Main Menu.
If you have one of the older Fifth Generation iPod models, then read ahead:
As far as I know, you cannot upgrade the firmware for your Fifth Generation to 1.2, or something later, to add the Search function to it. (At least, that's what they did with the nanos, and I'm pretty sure that's what they did with the Fifth Gens as well).
I honestly doubt that Apple will, after introducing new iPods with search functions now 7 months and 12 days ago (yes, the date is permanantly engrained in my head , would bother to let users upgrade their old iPods to have such a function.
They haven't done it yet for 7 months, thus I tend to doubt that they will.
Also, it's always going to be about getting the newest and latest thing if you want the newest and latest features with Apple products. If you get the newest iPod, sooner or later, you will be "outdated".
But, nonetheless, you could let Apple know about your ideas, since someone is guaranteed to read over your ideas, if you submit a feedback note on their Feedback form for iPods:

I don't know how to search for specific music as it is now. I have tried

I agree that reinstalling the OS each time is not an acceptable way to deal with this issue if it continues to be reoccurring. It will be awhile before I know if this solved the issue long term for me.
The Apple TV uses hardware and software that has to wirelessly interact with the computer OS and iTunes so there are many areas that can cause the problem and it may not be the same for everyone experiencing this problem.
Apple Product Specialists can elevate issues to the Apple Engineers if they are unable to solve it and enough users call Apple Care to complain. I have seen very few people on the Apple message board talk about having addressed any issue with Apple. If Apple Care covers your computer be sure that Apple is aware of your issue, which will increase the likely hood it will be addressed at a higher level.

Why can't I purchase movies from my Apple TV? When searching not all available movies even show up!

I've had my apple tv for a while now, but have never actually purchased anything from the itunes store directly from the device. A friend recommended "Sleepless in Seattle" to me, and since it's not in Netflix or On Demand, I decided to buy it from itunes.
In doing a search in the Movies section of my Apple TV and typing in "Sleepl", I got no results. Bummed, I went onto Amazon to see how much the DVD would cost. On a whim, I opened itunes on my computer and did a search for the movie. To my shock, it is available for purchase on itunes for $9.99!
Once I found this out, I went back to my Apple TV and searched again. The movie still didn't appear to exist. I noticed then that every movie on the apple tv only gave me the option of renting, not buying. I was going to purchase from my computer, but then thought better of it because I wasn't sure it would be made available for me to watch on the apple tv.
Is there something wrong with my system? Why can't I buy movies from the device? I can buy tv shows, so it just seems weird to me that this is limited to the movies!

That profile was written in 2007 and never updated. Unlike you, I don't live on this forum. I have one 5 year old Dell gathering dust, waiting for the trash that has some kids software on it my kids never use.
Currently I own a 27 inch iMac, and a 21 inch iMac used by my wife. I just sold my MacBook Air, which replaced my MacBook Pro of two years ago. I have an AppleTV v2, and unfortunately gave my AppleTV v1 to a friend before I realized they stripped out the movie purchase feature. We also own an iPad, two iPhones, and 4 iPods, two of which are used as digital music storage for our cars.
So yes, all of my factual posts concerning Apple's shocking decision to try to hide the fact they removed significant functionality from AppleTV when they revved it, are just driven by the fact that 4 years ago I used almost no apple products. Apparently I harbor a twisted desire to hurt the company that provides me almost all of my technology of choice today, despite being an early software developer for the Mac, helping start two Macinotosh software companies in the 1980s and 1990s, and working at Apple for 2 years in the early 90s.
The truth is, Apple's products weren't so good 15 years ago so I gradually switched to Windows for professional reasons. About 4 years go I bought an iPhone, and started to wake up to the fact that Apple had done a tremendous job moving the Mac platform to the intel architecture, and was very happy to replace my crappy dells with Apple products.
But that doesn't mean I wear blinders when their product teams and marketing department makes mistakes, or does something deceptive.

Is there a way to view current playlist during airplay to apple TV and perhaps search and add to queue? So there are no interruptions between videos?

We are having a karaoke night and have all the songs as videos in iTunes, would be great to select the item and edit the current playlist.
so we have a seamless transition to the next abba video
Is this possible? Perhaps there are other products / apph able to suppor this?

No, Apple very rarely make advance announcements of bug fixes.
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library for the old search behavior.
Alternatively you roll back to iTunes 10.7. If so, first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.
You might also want to use iTunes Feedback.

Vimeo Searches in ATV2 show less results than in osx

I live in Argentina, have an ATV2 and MacBook Pro.
Searches in vimeo through opera show extesively more results than searches through ATV2.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

Hmmm... That's a tough question without seeing the results of FMAF, at least. Sometimes, something goes wrong with the reassignment (if you did any) or the carry-forward. Sometimes, it's somehow connected to internal process which differs from SAP standard (again, if you have any). Could be really several reasons, but most of them are resulted from enhanced solutions in FM.

Apple TV hiding YouTube search results

I just got my AppleTV 2 weeks ago, I am so frustrated, I wish it worked as seamless as my MacBook and my iPhone. I always have to reboot it and sometimes it just stops working!
Anyways I wanted to ask if anyone else is having issues with AppleTV hiding YouTube search results.
For example if I search La Roux - Bulletproof on YouTube (online, web browser) I get the official video, on AppleTV I get whole bunch of other videos BUT the official. And this is not the only one. A lot of my YouTube favourites do not appear either.
I am under the impression that they hide the videos that are for sale on the iTunes store. If that is the case it makes me feel extremely deceived. They shouldn't market the YouTube functionality then. I hope I am the one not operating it properly.
Is there a way around this?

I've noticed this same issue myself but believe that it's driven not by Apple or YouTube as companies but instead by the unique YouTube user and whether or not they elect to have that video available on mobile devices, etc. at the time of upload.
Case in point, I've got some YT vids in which I declined upon upload to make them available on mobile devices which resulted in their not being available(or even visible) on aTV.
There's a wealth of info on this forum with all the savvy members. I'm sure someone else will chime-in and shed some more light on the subject.

No. On this forum, where you are posting, in the upper right hand corner is a search box. It was in a different place and only searched the forums until 2 days ago.
Ron, you're talking about two different things.
The search box in the top menu of every Apple page searches the whole site.
There is normally an additional search box for the forums themselves, towards the top right of every forum page. As mentioned in my other post in this thread, that has been turned off temporarily to alleviate forum overload due to high traffic in these iPhone forums.
It's a temporary measure.

Also, if Verizon is charging you for Premium Visual Voice Mail (which according to their website is currently the only one that offers voice to text) you should contact them for a refund as the "Check Device Compatibility" link at their http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/products/visual-voicemail.html shows that only 16 phones are supported and the iPhone is not one of them.
If you decide to switch phones, you may also want to consider that feature from Verizon only transcribes the first 45 seconds of a voicemail.

Apple Mail - 5.1 Search param's?

Using Mail 5.1 (OS 10.7.2) I can't seem to find the option to narrow my search parameters i.e.: Subject/entire message/fr/ etc. as in previous versions of Mail. The Mail Help says: "To change the criteria, click the arrow and choose From, To, or Entire Message from the pop-up menu. The choices in the menu depend on the category you selected from the list of suggestions."
but where's the popup menu? I found the "Sort by" options - but that applies to how the search results are organized -not the search parameters. I'm trying to find "Fetch" in the "subject" field only, & I get spam that mentions "Free Sanwhiches" but nothing with the word Fetch.
I'm sure this is user error -but I didn't have this problem with previous "Mail"

If it can't find any messages that have "fetch" in the subject (or from, or to), you won't get an option for those things. You'll just see "message contains"

How well does an apple iphone 4/4s search using siri??

There is no Siri on the iPhone 4.
I'm not exactly clear what your question is. If you want to ask Siri to search for something, you can just say, "Siri, tell me about XXXX". If it's something that needs to be looked on the web, Siri will launch the browers, enter the search terms and search for what you want. You'll get a search results page in the browser in your default search engine.

Unless you have enable Find My Phone there is nothing you can do to block it. All you can do is configure Find My Phone to go into Lost mode or to Erase the device. Neither of these will happen until it is connected to the Internet.
