Apple TV 3G AirPlay Mirroring Stuttering

I have alreadys posted in other threads but there is no thread with my exact issure.
In particular I have problems with the AIrPlay Mirroring with games on the new Apple TV 3G and the iPad 2.
I have tried 3 different Routers: one with 150 MBit/s, one with 450 MBit/s and one dualband 300 MBit/s.
The issue remains the same:
1. AirPlay Mirroring is not 1080p on my TV. Tried 2 TVs, an LCD Samsung B650 and a new Plasma Panasonic STW50. On both TVs there is a visilbe 5cm black frame around the picture. I looked at the Apple TV settings and looked at the zoom and overscan settings on my TVs - so I couldn't find any errors in sthe setings.
2. AirPlay Mirroring stutters on the TV that bad that it is not playable! I tried all variants 50Hz and 60Hz and no change. Music videos from my iMac didn't stutter once!
3. From time to time the whole Mirroring freezes fo a second and the continues (and I'm out of the track and naturally out of the race)
I tried 3 games: RealRycing 2, Asphalt 5 and Modern Combat 3 - all the same issue.
So what the heck is happening here!?!
WiFi network isn't to slow or to far away (same room 3m ftom couch and 0,5m to Apple TV, wired connection to the router didn't help either).
+ Either the new Apple TV 3G or the iPad 2 seems not to support WMM, which can be switched on on some routers; the opposite happens: disabling WMM makes AirPlay work between iPad 2 and Apple TV3. With enabled WMM I wasn't even able to play music!
It seems like the Apple TV is buffering too slow or that the hardware is to weak!
(There is one thread where Apple TV buffers videos and stutters the same way. I didn't try look some long films, only Music Clips.)

DSL speed doesn't matter! It's only Mirroring!
My WiFi Router is the new Linksys E3200 (dual band 300 MBit/s). Should be enough.
As I already said: In my network during the test there was only my Apple TV 3G, my iPad 2 and my iPhone 4 in stand-by mode.
One thing to mention: The E3200 supports WMM to speed up streaming but actually it stopps all kind of streaming between my iPad and my Apple TV.
When I want to connect my iPad 3 to the WiFi in N mode, WMM should be enabled otherwise my iPad 2 doesn't conect at all
Solution there: Switch off the WMM and so I'm not able to use the N Netwotk.

  • Streaming from MacBook Air to Apple TV via Airplay mirroring causes stuttering

So... I'm trying to stream video from Safari on my Mac to my Apple TV via Airplay mirroring. Most of the time, the video starts off just fine, but after a while, it begins to stutter and lag on my Apple TV. The video is playing just fine on my Mac, but as it's mirrored over to the Apple TV, it begins to stutter and lag on the Apple TV only; not on my Mac. I then quit out of Safari, turn off wifi on my Mac, restart the Apple TV and restart my Time Capsule. Once I do that, it works fine, intermittently for a bit, and then starts to give out again.
I have a 2013 13" MacBook Air with 8 GB's of RAM, an Apple TV 2 and 3, a previous generation Time Capsule (802.11n), and 50 Mbps wifi from AT&T Uverse.
What gives? What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't this stream just fine under these circumstances?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hey vazandrew,
Thanks for the update on the encryption piece. I didn't know that. I thought you meant something like using a VPN.
And yeah, 4 years is a while. I just figured if the drive was still humming along all should be well. I didn't think that performance could be affected in this way just from using an old router.
The issue does occur on both Apple TV's. Near the Apple TV's are just my TV sets. One ATV also has speakers nearby it. The ATV's are not sitting inside of a closed space. They're on top of the entertainment unit. The rest of the appliances are below and inside the unit.
Near the Time Capsule is the Uverse Gateway modem for my cable tv, a Motorola SB6141 modem for my internet with Atlantic Broadband (I mistakenly mentioned initially that my internet was with Uverse), an APC battery backup, my HP printer, a USB hub, a power strip, and a couple of unplugged external hard drives.
    Thank you again.

  • Apple TV 2 Airplay/Mirroring with BT Home Hub 5

    Hello,
I've just had BT infinity 2 installed along with a Home Hub 5. Internet is working fine and I have numerous iPads, iPhones, Android phones and computers connected and working fine.
I have an Apple TV 2 which will stream from Netflix and Apples own movie repositry fine however if I try and use Airplay or Mirroring after around 5 seconds my Apple TV gets booted form the wireless network and I have to reconnect.
I've recently moved from Virgin Media where I used a modem and a DLink Dir-655 which worked flawlessly so I'm sure its the HomeHub 5 which is the problem.
Has anyone got Airplay and/or Mirroring working with their HomeHub 5? I am wondering if its anything to do with the 5ghz band as I notice the Apple TV connects on 5hz where as my old router was only 2.4ghz compatible.
    Any help apreciated.

Have you tried disabling the 5GHz frequency on the home hub?
I believe that there are things you need to do, to synchronise the two SSIDs, but as I only have a HH1, I am sure someone will be able to help.

  • Apple TV and Airplay mirroring not working

I've been trying to get Apple TV 2 working in my college for the last couple of weeks. Our wireless uses 802.1x but after a lot of fail trying to configure the Apple TV using a number of different profiles via Apple Configurator I've convinced an infrastructure engineer to create a new SSID  using WPA2 and creating a rule through our firewall to allow clients connected on that SSID out.
I could finally get out to the internet  for about 10 minutes before it lost connection again. During the 10 minutes I was still unable to use AirPlay via the iPad although they were both on the same subnet!
Can someone please help if they've had any success with this.
    Regards,
    Evan

Also. I noticed that when I joined the school's network, it didn't ask for my student ID and password like it normally does when I connect to it through my laptop or phone. There is a password I have to put in in order to connect, but I didn't ask me.

  • AirPlay All System Audio To Apple TV(not AirPlay Mirroring)

I can successfully play audio from iTunes to my Apple TV.
I understand that I should also be able to select my Apple TV as a sound output destination in System Preferences so that all system audio gets directed there.
Apple TV appears in the list of devices however I cannot select it.
Anyone know how to fix this please?

Thanks for replying and trying to help Lanny.
When I try to select Apple TV it would simply bounce back to the internal speakers (or the last device I had selected).
Since posting I found a solution on another thread.  The post from DC Soup on this thread on flushing the DNS cache.  Everything works fine after that.  I don't know why flushing the DNS cache would fix the issue.
It's great because I can now get audio from any app to stream to my Apple TV.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

  • HT204291 AirPlay mirroring of my ipad only fills part of my flat screen tv

Hi just trying to get my airplay mirroring to fill my whole flat screen tv....

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Airplay mirroring cannot fill your entire screen. The aspect ratio of the iPad is 4:3 whereas the aspect ratio of your TV is 16:9, it just isn't possible for one to fit into the other perfectly.

my macbook air doesnt show airplay mirroring need a help

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
AirPlay Mirroring needs OS X Mountain Lion or later > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 Your MacBook is compatible, so you have two options:
    1. Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com After upgrading, you will see the AirPlay icon on the menu bar.
    2. Keep Lion and use an app like AirParrot or Beamer to mirror your MacBook Air's display to the Apple TV

  • AirPlay audio stutters - only works when mirroring

I have a 3G Apple TV, which I use to stream audio content from my iPhone 5 and 3rd generation iPad. When I try to stream audio from those devices via AirPlay, it stutters horribly. If I enable mirroring, it works fine. If I enable mirroring for a second and then disable it, it also works fine. So, everytime I need to stream audio, I have to turn on mirroring and then turn it back off again - quite a pain. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on how to fix it? I have read numerous articles on optimizing my WiFi network and router/AppleTV placement, and have optimized all aspects of the network as best I can. AppleTV shows a strong signal and has no problems streaming content using the AppleTV menu itself (Netflix, iTunes, iTunes Match, etc).

I also am having trouble with AirPlay on Apple TV 2 (iMac on 10.7, iPhone/iPad on iOS 5). I found a workaround using the Apple TV: turn AirPlay off/on, then go into the password screen and immediately exit (i.e., don't set a password). After exiting the password screen AirPlay begins playing.
I hope Apple recognizes this as a bug and fixes it soon.

  • AirPlay mirror on Apple TV stops working when a Skype or Google conversation is started (iOS 7)

I thought it would be nice to see Skype contacts on the large screen and realised this should be possible using my Apple TV, but AirPlay (in mirror mode) on Apple TV stops working when a Skype or Google + conversation is started after showing all right on the TV till that point. I'm using iOS 7 and the problem occurs on my iPad 2 and iPhone 5. Facetime seems to be OK, and Skype works over Apple TV when using my daughter's MacBook Pro (though I haven't tried Google + on it), so I deduce that the issue is with iOS 7. I have had success one or twice with using Skype in this manner on my iPhone so it is not consistant, but this is rare and hasn't happened in my latest attempts. Unfortunately some of my Skype contacts don't have an Apple device so I often can't use Facetime.
Is there a work around, or has Apple acknowledged this issue and said there will be a fix?

    Same problem here.
iPhone 5s + apple TV + Skype all are up to date. Mirroring is working until the video signal starts, after that the Apple TV goes back to the Apple TV starting screen.

My iPad IOS software is 8.2 and my Apple TV software is at 7.1.  The TV displays the Apple Menu.  The “Settings” does however displays the General menu allowing me to see:

The problem first arose when the IOS was at 8.1+ but it worked correctly briefly when I updated to IOS 8.2.  Can you help please?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.
