Apple TV additional storage?

I have a 1st gen apple tv, is it possible to plug a hard drive into it for additional capacity. I plugged a hard into it but it's not see it. PLease help?

Thank you for the prompt response. I hope if Apple going into the manufacture of tv's they include a decent sized hard drive, as I hate streaming. My broadband is not good enough and I could possibly run up a bill with my isp streaming. I hope your listening Johnny:)

I purchased a  MBP 13.3/2.5/8GB/128GB FLASH from Apple store in Manhattan Beach,CA some months ago. It has only 128 GB storage.
I soon realized that I did a big mistake not upgrading the storage when purchasing. I thought I could upgrade later which is not possible I understand.
    My Q:
What is the best and most practical/userer friendly option for additional storage say up to 1 TB ?

    Hey leiv karsten,
As your macbook is retina, you can't upgrade it like previous generation macbook pro.You can purchase a portable 1TB external harddrive.

  • What is the best way to create additional storage AND backup a laptop, as well as the storage?

Beyond being seriously annoyed at an Apple Employee recommended we go the NAS route at an Apple Store no less—only to find it doesn't work for storage OR Time Machine backups of iPhoto (after spending weeks organizing/transferring date, outside of a good deal of coin)—we are now perplexed as how to set up/store based on our needs.
    Goals
Create additional storage (iPhoto, iTunes, documents) for the family laptop
Accessible by anyone/device on the home network (iPad, mini iPad, iPhones, etc..)
Would prefer the ability to access this offsite as well
    Backup of the laptop
    Backup of the storage HD
Ensure we do not lose iPhoto libraries data/files
Here is what I am thinking—need to know if it will work.
    Purchase two HDs
Plug them into my base station
Allocate one HD @2T for storage (additional iPhoto libraries, home movies, iTunes libraries, etc...)
Partition the second HD @3T to handle two Time Machine backups
    (a) Time Machine of the laptop (up to 1T of backups)
    (b) Time Machine of the first HD (up to 2T of backups) - Is this possible?
What I need to know is
Is it possible to partition a HD to Time Machine two backups from different sources—one being a HD?
If this is not a good solution—what is? I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to deal with a lot of data related to iPhoto due to the formatting limitations there.

While most do not advocate mixing Time Machine backups with other files, I have 3 Time Capsules with files and backups on the same partition and have never had a problem despite doing it for many years. All 3 Time Capsule are set up as NAS devices.
One Time Capsule holds the Snow Leopard partition backup of two computers. The other two each have a backup of the Mountain Lion partition of two computers. Time Machine is set up to alternate between the devices, which it can now do. On these 2 Time Capsules is a copy of the iTunes Library and a copy of the iPhotos Library, which provides a backup for the two. Every so often I manually copy the new files from the primary iTunes/iPhotos library to the backup on the other Time Capsule.
If the computer is on, I can access the computer from my iPad and then access the hard drives and the files.
Hopefully, I have been able to make this clear.

  • How do I pay for my 20g of additional storage in iCloud

i have the annual additional storage in iCloud. It expires today and I can't find out how to purchase it for another year

It will renew automatically on the same credit card used for the original purchase. Apple should email you about the renewal.

  • Can I use a Time Capsule for ADDITIONAL storage for a Mac Air which has run limited storage space

    Hi
I am looking at purchasing the current MacBook Air but am aware of its limited storage space in terms of files, photos etc.
Was wondering if I could use a time Capsule for both back-up and as an additional storage device.  Ie: would I be able to store photos and files on the Time Capsule that I do not wish to store on a MacBook Air and be able to retrieve them as and when - or would these be deleted after a period of time?  Is there any way of protecting certain files on the Time capsule to prevent them from being deleted?
    Many thanks in advance

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can but it's not recommended, because you can damage the Time Machine structure.

Only files backed up with Time Machine are deleted from your Time Capsule when there's no enough storage. If you store other files, they are not deleted. However, for what you want to do, I recommend you to buy a big external drive and make two partitions, one for Time Machine and another one to store files, or get two external drives

How do I get a full uk refund for additional storage bought but realized not needed?
All I wanted to do was upgrade my ipad 2 to ios 6 but in my settings it was greyed out and it told me I did not have enough storage to upgrade so I bought additional icloud storage and realised that this made no difference whatsoever
Now I was a refund but typical apple, one click to buy but a million and a phone call to get back
I just want this iPad upgraded and my refund for storage that aint storage!?? and someone to explain to me in LAYMAN's terms what the difference is between iPad storage and iCloud and what is the point if you cannot upgrade even though you bought more storage!?
    Thank you

Use instructions to downgrade your storage.
difference in laymans terms is simple. You ipad has local storage. Icloud is storage on apple server, that people by to create backup. Local storage for ipad can not be expanded. New ipad with bigger storage can be purchased and Apple makes them is up to 128 gigs size.

You have not purchased additional storage on your phone, if that's what you mean - it's not possible to increase the storage on an iPhone. What you have presumably done is to purchase additional storage on the iCloud server.
You can cancel an iCloud storage upgrade but only within 15 days of buying:
Apple seem to have made this as difficult as possible. You may be able to do this using http://expresslane.apple.com - Click on 'More products and services', then 'iCloud', 'Account and setup' then 'This topic is not listed'. Explain the situation in the box provided and wait for a response - include a phone number. However you may find you cannot proceed without entering a hardware serial number which is still eligible for AppleCare.
In that event you will need to phone them directly, using the Apple Online Store number given at the bottom of this page. The first person you speak to may tell you to do it from the iCloud website but this is not possible. Politely insist on escalating the issue to a more senior person and eventually you should be able to get through to someone who can deal with this (you may have to wait for them to call you back) - you will be asked security questions and for part of your credit card number to identify yourself.
If it is more than 15 days since you purchased the storage you cannot cancel it for a refund; you can downgrade your plan as from your next renewal date. Please see
    http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmd602084a
and expand 'Downgrade your storage for the next plan year'.

  • I paid for additional storage and it didn't add the storage to my iCloud account

I purchased additional storage & I'm still getting messages, "Your iCloud Starage is full"  I purchased 10 more GB and it still shows on my device that I only have 5 GB & its full.  Is there any additional steps I'm suppose to take? It shows the $ was taken from my bank account.

You shouldn't need to do anything else.  You could try calling the Apple online store to confirm that their purchase records show that the purchase went through, and if so, ask them why the delay in seeing the storage increase.  If you're in the U.S. you can reach them at 1-800-MY-APPLE.

  • ICloud AppleID issues.... Can't purchase additional storage!

I have been having a ton of issues with AppleID's and the migration to iCloud....
I started with a working me.com account with one apple ID ([email protected]), a working itunes account with a second apple ID  (call it [email protected]) , and a third appleId with third email (call it [email protected])
iCloud setup forced me to "migrate" my me.com account before setting up a new iCloud account, but issues with the verification email did not allow me to do it with the same appleid as my itunes ([email protected]).  It did allow me to change the email to "[email protected]".
Then my itunesappleID ([email protected]) stopped working with the known password,  stopped accepting the correct info on challenge questions for a reset, and would not send reset info via email. Eventually hard-locking the account for trying to reset it too many times.
Now, for some unexplained reason, I can log into my itunes account with the new "[email protected]", which was never previously connected with the itunes account.
OK, so somehow apple seemed to migrate my old itunes account to the same appleid as my new iCloud account, perhaps because the email was listed as an "alternate" email on my me.com account (with me so far?)
Everything is MOSTLY working as it should, if I ignore what the heck actually happened behind the curtain and accept that Apple just seemed to cut off and merge multiple AppleID's even though they say they can not/ will not do that, but I have one remaining problem.
From my iPhone and iPad, I can log in to iTunes and iCloud using my new "[email protected]" appleID, but for some crazy reason, I can not purchase additional storage! Every time I try, it gives me the same new [email protected] appleId that now works for itunes and iCloud, asks me to reenter the password, and then gives me an error message, "your email address has changed or is invalid".

Any thoughts on what happened to my original itunes AppleID?
Why it changed to my new iCloud AppleId even though they where originally seperate?
And why iCloud allows the ID/password combination for everything but purchasing more storage?

  • HT5527 My iCloud account does not show any additional storage beyond the 5GB

My iCloud account manager does not show any storage beyond the standard 5 Gbytes that are free.  I supposedly have been granted additional storage according to an email from Apple but where is it?

iMovie on your Mac  has nothing to do with iCloud storage.  Download and use Find Any File  to search for your iMovie project.  FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't, like invisible folders, packages and system folders.  If there a file with your file name on it anywhere on the hard drive FAF will find it.
Do you have Time Machine enabled backing up to an external HD?  This situation is exactly what TM is good at.  It makes hourly backups so you can go back to find and restore the missing file.  All HDs crash at some time or another and having a good backup strategy is the only protection against that.

Unfortunately you can't, the additional storage belongs to your first account, you can't transfer it.

  • If I paid for additional storage how can i tell when it expires?

I thought I paid for additional storage when icloud started, why is it telling me it is about to expire?

Click on the apple logo upper left hand corner and select about this mac,in the box that comes up click on more info which will launch the system profiler. Under the hardware tab click on Serial-ATA the name and model # of your HD will be listed, copy and paste into a google search and you should find plenty of info about the HD. Cheers.

Apple are NOT good at explaining things. This is my opinion. You can agree or disagree. You are entitled to your opinion just as I am.
I just gave you a public link that explains iCloud, I got it by Googling "What is iCloud'
You are not good at understanding things, that is the issue here.
