Apple TV, Airplay, and Pandora

I have and Apple TV and an iPad.  I receive Pandora radio on an iPad app.  In the settings on the Apple TV I have turned Airplay on and I have created a password for Airplay.    What do I do to stream the Pandora from the iPad to the Apple TV?  Where do I enter the password?  There is no place for the password on the iPad Pandora app.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
The password applies to all apps, once turned on you will have to enter a password after you select the Airplay icon for the iPad on any AirPlay streaming.
The purpose of the password is to stop others with iOS devices interrupting your viewing on the Apple TV, ideal if you have small children with iPods/iPhones.

  • Apple TV2, Airplay, and Hulu Plus

My life won't change if this doesn't work, but I would at least like to know "why not" if it won't. I have updated my iPad and my Apple TV2 to the latest operating system and software. Airplay is turned on for my Apple TV.
I started a television show on Hulu Plus, double clicked the interface button on my iPad and chose Apple TV. Nothing happened. The show continued to appear only on my iPad. What have I missed?

Thanks, Chenks! I have learned after 30 years of going back and forth from newbie to oldbie again and again that it is always profitable to ask questions and not make assumptions. There have been many struggles with new Apple TV and I didn't want to just assume I couldn't do it. Have a great holiday season!

  • Apple TV, Airplay and caching

    Hi Everyone
I was just wondering whether our Apple TV (3rd gen) is actually caching the content we view via Airplay from our devices/computers?
In other words, does Apple TV store the content locally in the same way it does iTunes movies, YouTube videos, etc until it runs out of space and overwrites it with new content? And, if so, is there any way to access that content directly from the Apple TV without the device/computer still being connected via Airplay?
So, for want of a "real life" example, I view a home video on the Apple TV via an iPhone connected with Airplay. Five minutes later we view it again, but is it now streaming the same video again from the iPhone or is the Apple TV just playing it from its local cached storage? And if it is using local storage, would there be a way of "accessing" that content without the iPhone still being connected via Airplay?
    Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks!
    Joe.

As I understand it, the ATV just buffers (in its RAM) a small amount of the compressed content stream to smooth out any hiccups that might otherwise happen because of brief network problems, maybe up to a few seconds worth.
There is no way of accessing this I am aware of.

  • Apple tv airplay and sound

Is it possible to use airplay on TV and have the sound on our device ?

    Hi
This is not possible.  When you activate Airplay, that ports the sounds to Apple TV, when you activate Mirroring, that then sends over Video.
You could do this with a Mac, and change the preferences in Sound Preferences

  • Apple TV Airplay and Mirroring

I am unable to get any of my devices to work with my second or third generation Apple TV with airplay or mirroring. I have an IPAD 1 and 4, and also a laptop with ITunes that won't connect anymore since I moved.
    I have done the following:
I wasn't sure if my apple tv was broke, so I took it to the Apple retail store. He was able to mirror his IPAD and IPhone on my Apple TV, it turned out to be my remote, which now works with it.
All four devices have updated software.
All are on the same network.
All 4 devices are on the same Apple account, I only have one.
I've gotten pictures from the icloud to show up on screen.
On the IPad 4, I double clicked home and slid it to the right twice, no icon.
With my IPAD 1, I used to just play video and the airplay icon would come up, now nothing.
I've tried one suggestion, to change the language setting, nothing changed.
I have checked home sharing, everything is on.
I know I read about taking off the firewalls, but is that something that needs to be done with an IPad? I can see my lap top not working because of this, but IPads that have worked in the past.
I'm at a loss, any help would be appreciated.

You mentioned the issue started once you moved, it has something to do with how the network has been setup. Yes, things like firewall need to be looked at because something is blocking the connection.

  • HT4437 Apple TV - AirPlay and Ipod Touch

I cant find the airplay icon on Ipod touch...where do I find it if trying to connect to Apple tv?

You can double tap the home button, swipe (left to right) twice to bring up the volume slider and airplay icon. You will also see it within apps that are compatible. Make sure airplay is turned on in ATV settings and that both are on the same network. Ensure the iPod and ATV are is up to date.
Note: audio is on by default but not all will be enabled for video, which is up to the developer to do.

  • Mac Mini used as Apple TV (airplay and apple remote on iphone/ipod)

Yesterday Apple announced the new Apple TV as an iOS device. It can be controlled using the apple remote app on an iphone or ipod touch. I am using a Mac Mini using Air Mouse to control the Mini which is hooked up to my TV. Would it be possible to use the Apple Remote app for this?

    Hi Bart,
you could use the itunes remote app to control your itunes music / videos from an iphone/ipod touch/ipad.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/remote/
Keep in mind the itunes currently uses the remote app in a different manor to the apple tv. I don't think you could use the itunes remote app to for instance rent movies. But ones you had the movie rented you could use the remote app to trigger playing /pausing the movie. But there are some advantages, like you can get a list of videos on the computer on the iOS device.

It is stated that mirroring requires recent hardware (2011 or later)

However you can still use 3rd party solutions like Airparrot which do it via software

  • I have a new Macbook Air 2012, Apple TV 2 and I have tried wired and wireless connections both result in stuttering during video airplay to the ATV2.

I have a new Macbook Air 2012, Apple TV 2 and I have tried wired and wireless connections both still result in stuttering during video airplay to the ATV2.
I have even bought a new Airport Extreme Router just to confirm it is not the router and it still didn't help.
I have brought all items in the same room with wired connections and still same issue.
I was thinking maybe ATV 3 might help since it has 2 wifi antennas and faster processor.
Have tried everything I could think of.
This was one of the main reasons I bought a Macbook Air for this airplay feature. Very frustrated.
Any thoughts; any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I also disabled Norton Firewall and restarted the Air and Now I'm able to use Air Play.
I know that the Apple remedy said that to do that in the support article, but I totally forgot I had that enabled..
It actually works. I can even stream to the Apple TV now through my MacBook Air.
BTW, Go into setting under the ATV, and click on update...you'll see that there was another update avaialble for the last gen of ATV...
It does have to restart twice..I guess once to download and and nother to apply.

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.

  • HT204291 apple tv update and iPad update to iOS 8.2 broke airplay

First I updated my iPad (2) to iOS 8.2. When I noticed that movies did NOT play from iBooks.
I checked for an Apple TV update. There is one today, so I did that. Now there is NO AIRPLAY option on the iPad!
Am I missing some new setting or did Apple break AirPlay?

between restarting my ipad and restarting my apple tv, it's working again.  However, movies in iBooks are still broken!

  • My iphone 4s wont connect in apple tv 3rd gen dont show the airplay icon, but apple tv can connect in Bose sound touch 20 via airplay, and the iphone also connect to sound touch 20 via airplay, so it means theres something wrong in my iphone.

my iphone 4s wont connect in apple tv 3rd gen dont show the airplay icon, but apple tv can connect in Bose sound touch 20 via airplay, and the iphone also connect to sound touch 20 via airplay, ive just buy it yesterday in Mediamarkt Spain,, so it means theres something wrong between my iphone and the apple tv? please me

    Hi jaredfox06,
If I understand the issue correctly, you have recently purchased a used iPhone and you do not see your Apple TV in the control center in order to AirPlay.  To troubleshoot this issue please follow the steps outlined below.
    Try these steps first
Make sure that you have the latest software on your iOS device and Apple TV.
Make sure that both devices have Wi-Fi turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network.
If you're trying to use peer-to-peer AirPlay, make sure that both devices have Bluetooth turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Bluetooth.
If you don't see AirPlay in Control Center
When an AirPlay-enabled device is available, you'll see AirPlay in Control Center on your iOS device.
If you don't, try these steps:
Restart your iOS device and Apple TV.
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network. If your Apple TV is connected using Ethernet, make sure that it’s plugged in to the router you're using for Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, make sure that AirPlay is turned on. Go to Settings > AirPlay.

  • Apple TV won't load or play movies from my MBP library (through both airplay and homesharing), but will from my mac mini. Help!

I have been using my apple TV seamlessly with all my apple products (Mac Mini, iphone, MBP, ipad). Everything worked perfectly until recently (I noticed the issue about 3 weeks ago), when the apple TV won't load and play any movies from my iTunes library located on my MBP. The Library loads, and I can see everything, but as soon as I press play, the spinning load icon appears and doesn't stop. Same when I play movie from itunes directly and send it via airplay. Desktop mirroring no problem.
I have checked, and films are being played perfectly from my other devices, as does airplay and mirroring

Section 8 seems to be most applicable.
    8. Cannot access my library when my computer is asleep
For Apple TV to access your library while the host computer is asleep, "Wake for network access" must be turned on.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and select (enable) the "Wake for network access" option.
In addition, the network that the host computer and the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) is connected to must support Wake on Demand feature. This works by partnering with a service running on your AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule called Bonjour Sleep Proxy.
