Apple TV Airport Express Connection Issues. Help!

So I've been having trouble with my Apple TV a lot lately. I finally figured out what the issue seems to be I think but I'm not sure how to fix it. I live in an apartment complex and I have an Airport Express in my place and it's set currently to "Off (Bridge mode)" because the complex has a router that is assigning the Ip addresses for my items. Now for some reason my Apple TV will say it has connected to the internet but it just brings up the Computers and Home Sharing screen so obviously it is not connected. I've played with the settings before and for some reason it'll work when the Router mode is set to "DCHP and NAT" but then the internet turns to crap because of the conflict it creates between the router and the Airport Express. My question is if anybody knows any settings i need to change to make Apple TV function normally like all my other electronics do on Wi-fi when Airport Express is on bridge mode. I've hard reset the Airport Express and updated it as well as reset and restored the Apple TV.

You might want to try changing the channel you use for wi-fi to see if that helps.
You may be able to work around the issue as well by playing the audio from your tv rather than from your computer through the tv. By playing the audio from the tv it will build a buffer on the tv which will likely overcome any breaks in streaming, playing from the computer is live streaming if you see what I mean.

  • Apple Tv - Airport Express - Time Capsule,  Network Issue

    Hi,
I don't know if I'm on the right thread but I don't know in which one to post my question.
I have the following configuration in my home:
    Floor 1 :
    - ISP connection, connected to Airport Extreme.
Airport Extreme has the Network name : Floor 1 Network
    Floor 2 :
    - Airport Express connected via ethernet to the Airport Extreme from Floor 1.
    - Time Capsule extending the Airport Express.
Airport Express and Time Capsule are on another Network name : Floor 2 Network.
All is working perfectly. (Clients wirelessly connected are MacBooks, iPhones, iPads, iPods, Apple TVs)
    Here is my problem.
I have an Apple Tv on Floor 2
The Time Capsule is located not far from the Apple TV (line of sight, few meters)
The Time Capsule hold my movies
Sometime I have problem to sync the ATV (very very slow). I already restart ATV, and TC. But sometimes, cannot get better a thruput
I would guess that the Apple TV would sometime connect to the AE (which is further than the TC), and then create this problem.
I would like to make sure that the Apple TV connect wirelessly to the TC and not the AE.
How could I do this, knowing that TC is extending the AE wireless network, I cannot select from the AppleTv on which wireless node to connect.
Thanks a lot for the support.

    fleyne wrote:
Yes. Actually, when the thruput is not good, I check first that my book is properly connected to TC and not the AE. This by checking the BSSID.
How could I do this on the ATV ? Or How could I make sure that the ATV is wirelessly connected to the TC?
It probably won't show you everything you'd like to know, but you can learn something about the ATV connection with AirPort Utility. Enter "manual setup" mode, select the menu option Base Station -> Logs and Statistics, then select the "Wireless Clients" tab. That should show you the signal strength and noise for each client.
I would like to avoid to run ethernet cable between the TC and the ATV.
Then you might benefit from a powerline adapter as suggested by the post from "Jolly Giant".

  • Apple Airport Express connection/setup with Siemens SpeedStream 4200

Hi, i am having trouble getting my macbook pro to recognise the Apple Airport Express connection to broadband via the Siemens Speedstream 4200 supplied by Optus.

and make sure you choose PPoE when you set up your router.
(It's not obvious from the Optus paperwork)

  • Airport Express connects to MBPro but not to my Lenovo or Blackberry

I just got the new Apple Express and here's my setup:
Optimum online cable modem --> Airport Express [Note that I don't have a regular router or Apple Extreme]
Airport Express software installed on my Macbook Pro 2010 (Snowleopard) to set up the wireless network. After struggling for a few hours, I managed to get my MacBook Pro to connect to the wireless (with and without password). However, I am unable to connect my work laptop (Lenovo T410...my wife has the same and it won't connect either), nor my Blackberry Bold.
The problem is that the Lenovos and our Blackberrys detect the wireless connection, but fail to connect (or acquire a network address). I am constantly getting "limited or no connectivity" message.
At first, I thought it was because of my WEP / WAP2 security, but I disabled my security and am still facing the problem.
I know this is a common problem, have searched forums extensively but have not yet found a solution. Any help will be much much appreciated.
    Cheers

I've been having similar issues with a Blackberry 9650 (5.x) but I'm using the Apple AirPort Extreme with an AirPort Express as an extender, it seems I've tried everything to get it working (change to WEP, WPA/WPA2, Mixed Mode, 5.0 GHz, etc.), but nothing seems to work.
Can you see the Lenovo or Blackberry in the DHCP logs of the AirPort?

  • Printing to Airport Express connected Laserjet 1012 very slow after update to 10.6.8

After updating a pair of computers that we have here to 10.6.8, printing to our Airport Express connected HP LaserJet 1012 has become incredibly slow. I timed it and it is taking 2:30 to print a blank page, whereas printing the same blank page under 10.6.7 (on an external drive connected to the same MacBook Pro) happens within 2 seconds. One thing that I have noticed is that when I bring up the HP Printer Queue the computer says 'connecting to printer' for 20 - 30 seconds, then sits at 50% complete on the printing for some time - anyone else running into similar problems?

Because I am not experiencing the same issue I have not needed to apply the CNET article. But just to be clear, did you follow the instructions to the letter?
If you did and it's still not working then you can begin narrowing down where the problem is by following some basic trouble shooting steps. First thing I'd try is creating a new user account (call it TEST ACCOUNT) and leave it alone, then try printing from that account. If it works then you know it's a software issue in your normal user account. If it still doesn't work then what I'd do is:
    1. Download 10.6.8 Combo Update at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    2. Disconnect all peripherals (including the printer)
    3. Backup using both Time Machine and/or a Bootable Clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner
    4. Restart from the Bootable Clone or the Snow Leopard install discs.
         a) choose language
         b) Click Utililities Menu
         c) Disk Utility
         d) highlight the internal HD and the First Aid tab
         e) Repair Disk Permissions, Verify Disk & Repair Disk.
         f) exit Disk Utility and restart in Safe Mode
    5. Install the Combo Update
    6. Restart normally and test the system
    7. Begin connecting peripherals one by one and testing each.

  • Problems Printing: Airport Express connected HP Laserjet M1319f

    Hello,
I have an Airport Express connected via ethernet to my network.  Attached to it is a HP LaserJet M1319f MFP printer, via USB.  I can get my iMacs and my Windows systems to print to the printer without a problem.
I would like to be able to print logs to it from my OS X Server (10.6.7), which is located quite a distance from the printer.  So far, I've had absolutely no luck configuring the Airport-attached printer and getting it to work.  From what I've been able to figure out, OS X Server expects any remote printer that it attaches to, to be attached via IPP, TCP/IP, or via Windows.  It doesn't seem to want to discover and use the printer via Bonjour.
Any ideas on how I can make this work?  Am I missing something obvious?
    Thanks!
    Sven

See if these guides help, it sounds like a driver issue. Does the printer work correctly when directly connected to the PC?
Ensure that the Macs are not sharing the printer, as this is not needed and the PC should be able to find the printer on the AX.

  • Hi, I`d like to connect my Ipad wirelessly to a stereo to listen to my music from the iTunes library on streaming, but also to movies online, games, Goear-) and so on.  I guess I can do that using an Airport express connected to the stereo and via airplay

Hi, I`d like to connect my Ipad wirelessly to a stereo to listen to my music from the iTunes library on streaming, but also to movies online, games, Goear…) and so on.  I guess I can do that using an Airport express connected to the stereo and via airplay to my Ipad. My question is, can I listen to all the audio that come out from the ipad (movies online, games, Goear…) or only to the music from iTunes library? I`d appreciate any help. Alex.

My question is, can I listen to all the audio that come out from the ipad (movies online, games, Goear…) or only to the music from iTunes library?
On the iPad you can stream videos, photos, or music from the Video, Photos, Music, and YouTube apps to an Apple TV OR just stream music to an AirPort Express Base Station.

  • Why doesn't my airport express router issue proper DNS server address to DHCP clients?

I have an Airport express router (version 7.6.4).  It was configured to connect to internet via a cable modem, acting as a router with NAT. This means it obtians WAN address from cable modem, and in LAN it assumes IP address 10.0.1.1 as a gateway, and issue IP address to my 4-5 wireless clients (MBA, iPads, PCs) vi DHCP.
However I recently encounter an issue, that the router no longer issues DNS server address obtained from Cable Modem(206.x.x.x) but instead tell every DHCP client to use router ip address (10.0.1.1) as DNS server. I was pretty sure before Dec 2013 it is issueing (206.x.x.x) to all DHCP clients.
Apparently now the Airport express is acting as a DNS server or as a DNS cache. This works sporadically and very often result in long DNS look up or DNS look up failure.
Is this a bug or is it supposed to do so?  Any configuration can turn it off so Airport express will issue Cable modem obtained DNS server to DHCP clients?
My network otherwise works fine. for some of the Clients (e.g. one MBA) I configured DNS for it mannually and it's internet is working very smoothly.

But this will be a problem for my ipad and iphone that uses wifi.
These devices either allow full DHCP. If you need to mannually enter DNS server, you will need to turn entire IP configuration to mannual and that will be a problem for me.

  • Had a Airport Express connected to my stereo and it was working.  I brought an Airport Extreme and suddenly it took over and Airport Express stopped working and disappeared from Airport Utility. What I am supposed to do?  ar2ro

I have an Airport Express connected to my stereo and it was working without any problem.
Recently I bought an Airport Extreme to use it as my Base Unit connecting it to my DSL.
I followed the instructions of the Airport Utility, and it started working.
Suddenly, problems started happen the Airport express that was connected to the stereo , stopped working and it disappeared from the Airport Utility area , as it did not exist in the network. I tried to reset it but it did not appear in the Airport Utility page.
Apparently I have other problems with the private network that it created because I cannot use it because of problems with the password that was created.  I can only use the network that  I created for my guest...
I dont know if my problem is a configuration problem or  there is problem with the equipment.
I read that other users where having the same problem with the Airport express , using non apple equipment as their base unit , but I thought that using the Airport Extreme was going to be compatible and no problems would happen.
    What should I do?

    Common Problem. Common solution.
Connect your Express via ethernet cable to the Mac while other network connections on the Mac are switched OFF.
After the Express shows up, change the settings of the Express to join the existing network. Take the appr. settings.
Unplug and reconnect your Mac to the network.
Check if the Express shows up in Airport Utility
    Alternative solution:
Hardreset the Express to factory settings
(while on power push the Pin next to the audio plug with a paperclip. Plug out the Express still holding down the little button then replug the Express to power and release button)
After that, the Express will show up in the Airport Utility.
    Make all needed settings.
I would prefer the first solution, its easier just to plug a cat5 cable.

  • Why does 2 Airport Expresses connects to one another instead of connecting to the primary Airport Extreme For internet Connectivity ?

I have Netgear DG834G router only for dsl connectivity wifi connectivity to that router is off. i have connected netgear that provides adsl connectivity to the  (Shakeel's Airport Extreme) Airport Extreme dual band Wireless N 5th generation via cat 5 cable so airport extreme is the main wifi device through which i get wifi signals at my home. now our house is big and i have installed the adsl netgear modem and airport extreme router at the same place in my room in the upper story but the signals are weak even in the upper story at the other end of the house so i have installed the new airport express dual band wireless N in the upper story (Kafeel's airport express) and it is connected to the primary airport extreme  (Shakeel's Airport Extreme) wireless router in range extention mode it repeats the same ssid. Our ground floor has another airport express dual band wireless N the new one ( Lounge's airport express) signal was weak there so i installed another airport express (Lounge's Airport Express) their and configured it to extend the range of primary router airport extreme  (Shakeel's Airport Extreme) in the upperstory with the same ssid. Now the problem i am facing that sometimes lounge's airport express connects to kafeel's airport express instead of connecting to the airport extreme and the signals in lounge are weak because all the devices are connected to kafeels airport express and does not connect to lounge air port express. but when lounge airport express is connected to primary router airport extreme then everything works fine devices connect to lounge airport express and signals are full. i have took pictures of the problem i am facing you will understand better by having a look at it. In normal working setup both the airport expresses are connected to airport extreme which is shown in this picture
The second picture shows when lounge airport express is connected to kafeels airport express and not the airport extreme (Shakeel's Airport Extreme) this is the problem.
isnt there a way to correct this so that they dont connect with each other and connect to the airport extreme ?

Lounge's AirPort Express must be located signficantly closer to Shakeel's AirPort Extreme than it is to Kafeel's AirPort Express, and there must be fewer obstructions in the signal path than the other possible connection.
The reason is that if you want Lounge's AirPort Express to connect to Shakeel's AirPort Extreme, it must receive a significantly stronger wireless signal from Shakeel's AirPort Extreme than it does from Kafeel's AirPort Express.

  • Airport Express connection questions

This is what I am trying to do. Can I share an internet connection to a computer that does not have a wireless connection through an Airport Express connected to the wireless router and an ethernet cable to the computer?

    No the following also work
    - a Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not latest versions v5)
    - a Belkin Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    - one specific model from SMC (can't find model number right now)
    - one specific model from Buffalo
    - BT Voyager 2100
For wireless routers not on this short list - not possible.
In particular, it will not work with any WiFi routers from D-Link or Netgear.

  • AirPort Express connected to an iPod Hi-Fi; iTunes can't find the speaker.

    Hi,
I've been trying to get my Hi-Fi to show up in iTunes via an AirPort Express connected to a MBP without much success..
First I had some trouble connecting the Express to my exisisting wireless network (Wireless-N ADSL2+ Gateway WAG300N), but once I changed the WEP key to a correct lenght I got it working (green light on the Express). Actually I'm not quite sure that it's working as intended, the Express won't show up in the Aiport utility, only in the advanced setting of my wireless network (system preferences -> network). Is it supposed to show up in the Utility even though it's connected through my existing wireless network?
I have both and optical and a 'regular' (English is not my first language cable and I've tried both, but the speakers won't show up in iTunes. I've got iTunes looking for external speakers so that shouldn't be the problem.
    Any ideas?

Try setting-up AE as if for the first time (perform a hard-reset of the AE).
This time, however, DO NOT connect the AE to your router initially. Connect it directly to your computer via ethernet cable when setting-up. Airtunes should now be enabled (this will not happen if you initially set up AE with AE connected to your wireless router).

  • Set up Airport Extreme with 2 Airport Express connected by CAT5??

I recently bought an Airport Extreme base station and an Airport Express. My plan was to use to Airtunes with my AV receiver in my basement. Unfortunately, because the distance between these two areas is long (and separated by two floors) I'm not able to get a strong enough signal with the Airport Express to use Airtunes. I bought another Airport Express to put on the middle floor of our house but the signal in the basement was still not strong enough even with this addition.
I do have a way of connecting the middle floor of our house with the basement area by a CAT5 ethernet cable. My plan now is to connect the two Airport Express modules by their ethernet ports with this cable. The Airport Express on the middle floor connects with the Airport Extreme base station wirelessly without any problems. My question is what is the proper setup for the 2nd Airport Express connected by ethernet in my basement.
Airport Tech support said this could be done. They recommended setting up a new wireless network with the 2nd Airport Express by "fooling" into thinking it was connected directly to the router but using the same network name with a different wireless channel as my Airport Extreme base station. This setup actually works for several hours but then the Airport Express module that is connected to the Airport Extreme blinks amber. Interestingly the 2nd Airport Express with usually remain with the green light on.
Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to set this up regarding network configuration with the Airport Utility?
    Thanks

wmskaggs, Welcome to the discussion area!

That will work with as long as the AirPort Express (AX) is connected via Ethernet. The only other setting you need to make is to configure it to act as a bridge (not sharing a single IP address).
If this one looses connection, then something is wrong with the AX or the Ethernet connection (cable and/or connectors).

Does this work when listening to radio direct on apple TV? I would like to able to play the radio on apple TV & airport express at the same time.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
No, this doesn't work directly from the Apple TV. However if you play the radio station from your computer you can send it via airplay to both devices, thereby achieving what you require.

Ok, if you are connecting the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to the existing wireless network, then the DSL in the next room is most likely a combination DSL modem and wireless router. Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Although they may only be separated by a single wall, the building material used in that wall may be enough to prevent the AX from receving a "good" signal from the DSL router.
Since I don't know what computing equipment you have available, please check out this AirPort User Tip: AirPort - Optimal Base Station Placement to see if you can get some SNR measurements at the location of your AX. To do this properly, you will want to power-off the AX and only get these measurements for the DSL router.
