Apple TV and Dissapearing Sync Option

First off - I love my ATV. Now...
I can not get my computer to Sync with the 40G ATV.
There is not an option in the tabs while it is streaming to the MacBook Pro. As a matter of fact, Streaming is the only thing it will do.
When I go to Settings and look under General on the ATV, sync is not there either.
Where do I go and what do I do to stop the streaming and begin syncing. So frustrated.
I hope this is understandable. I'm too tired to explain my self, maybe tomorrow.
John

Looks like you have connected your ATV to iTunes using the "Add Shared iTunes Library" method. Click on the name of your iTunes library on your Settings-->Computer menu and choose the "disconnect" option to remove the connection. Make sure the ATV is removed from the iTunes library (PC/Mac side) by going into Edit-->Preferences-->ATV tab. Then, choose the "Connect to iTunes Library" option in the Settings-->Computer menu on ATV to re-establish the link. You will now see the device on iTunes with the summary page having the option to "Custom Sync".

Sky is right you can restore the old backup and it will not affect the old iPad
    To make sure do this:
    1. If you have the old one then just turn off wi-fi and the iPad (that's just for your peace of mind)
    2. Put new iPad on airplane mode (just for no interruptions )
    3. Connect it (while it's on, don't shut it down)
    4. Follow prompts and when it asks if you want to setup as new or restore CHOOSE: RESTORE
    5. It will make its magic (just wait for it to sync, restarts, and finishes) it might ask you to update software if it does just accept
    6. You can rename your new iPad like that you can have a fresh back up
    7. ENJOY your new iPad
    ----------OR-----------
    1. Do the above steps 1, 2, 3.
    2. On step 4 you can choose to set up as new
    3. Then you can choose what to sync on it (click on iPad on the left panel then the tabs on top you choose what you want on it (you can also do that if you restore)
    4. Follow steps 5, 6, 7.
****If you don't have your old iPad you can remove it from your account ****
****Also when they sync it to a new computer it will setup as new unless they had an old one then they will restore it their old one****
****if you have it connected with your MobileMe or iCloud and you have the find my _____ you can also wipe it as soon as it comes online****
LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS
    AGAIN ENJOY YOUR NEW IPAD!!!

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.)  This will prevent you from ending up with merged data.  You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

  • Apple TV and iTunes sync dodgy

I live in Switzerland, just got an Apple TV and a Sony Bravia flat screen.  My home computer is Windows 7 based.
I have successfully hooked up AppleTV and iTunes - the problem?  It is not reliable, I always have to fiddle with turning router on/off, turning TV/Apple TV on/off and turning iTunes on/off.  The fact that sometimes everything works proves that the ports are open, but this is ridiculous!  I cannot get reliable connection, always requires fiddling with everything each time to get it to work.
I understand that iTunes has to be running, that the computer can't be asleep, right?  But why doesn't this work more seamlessly, what could I be doing wrong?
Also, home sharing is turned on both on computer and Apple TV, but half the time Apple TV doesn't see it.
Also as far as I have seen, when starting up Apple TV is never able to sync with local timezone, but I do have port 123 open.
This is frustrating!  Does it work better with Apple iOS?
    Brian

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • When I select Apple TV and the mirroring option it holds for 5 to 10 seconds and then just goes back to iPhone. Was working fine this morning

Sorry - more information. Using it off iPhone 4S

    Hello Theo,
I have a few recommendations for you. First if you havent already, restart the iPhone following iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430.
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
I would also unplug power to your Apple TV and modem/router, wait a good 30 seconds, and plug it all back up.
If none of that gets it going again, then have a look at this article for troubleshooting Airplay:
    Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring

    Cheers,

  • HT1351 I just logged into my applie ID and my old Ipod which I may have hooked up to my wifes account to fill with songs...now when I tie it into my computer with my apple ID I can't sync.  I go to file menu/library and the sync option is grayed out

Can't seem to sync an version 4 ipod with an old itunes account of mine.  I may have hooked it to my wife's account.  The only option I have when going to file/library is "transfer purchased from Adam's Ipod"

I'm not sure if the crash is or isn't related to fonts.
Deciphering the crash long is something I don't have any experience with.
I'm not even sure how the crash log is structured. I've downloaded two screen captures: one from the top of the adobe Photoshop crash log and one from the bottom. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I can discern what may be causing the crash?

  • HT4539 Different Apple IDs and no Music option

Hi! I have an iCloud apple ID which is different from my other Store Apple ID. Is this the reason for why my purchased music doesn't download on all devices? In Store/Automatic Download, I don't have the option of Music (only Apps and Books).

  • Me and my friend use the same computer to sync my phone was stolen just got a new one today went to go sync it it has his apple id and wont sync my contacts pictures or texts i have never had this problem before

Sounds like you synced your new phone to his backup, not yours.  Reset the phone and try again. Or maybe Restore will let you resync it, I'm not going to try it on my phone to find out.

  • Purchasing items on one apple device and then syncing it to another?

I bought an album on my 2nd generation iPod Touch in 2011 and I can play it from my iPod and iTunes but in 2012 I bought an iPhone 4, but did not transfer all of my songs from this album to my iPhone.
I have come to put the full album onto my iPhone and it will not let me for some reason. It is also in a "shadowed" font so I think that means that I cannot get it from iTunes.
    Please help!

    Hey aharris94,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I'd be interested to hear if you can download this album on the iPhone itself by visiting the Purchased section in the iTunes Store:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • All add-ons has been disappeared and even sync option didn't retrieve any of my password or bookmark

All of my add-ons and bookmarks has been disappeared!
I've tried to make "synch now" to retrieve them however nothing was happened!!
How could I back-up them please?

I still see some active and inactive extensions listed in the System Details List.
    Did you reinstall those?
The inactive extensions may be installed globally by other software and not in the Firefox profile folder.
You can check if there is a new profile created.

  • My iPhone 5 says it is connected to iTunes and starts syncing when it isn't connected

Everytime I open my itunes it says that my iphone is conncted and starts to tell me it is syncing the content, how can I fix this? thanks

    Hello Probes13,
It sounds like Wifi syncing may be enabled in iTunes. The article iOS: Syncing with iTunes found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386 outlines how to enable Wifi syncing but rather than checking the box that enables it, you would uncheck it.
    Wi-Fi syncing
    Open iTunes
To set up Wi-Fi syncing, connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable. Select your device under Devices on the left-hand side.
In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi".
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when all of the following are true:
The iOS device is plugged in to power
iTunes is open on the computer
The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network
While the iOS device appears in the left-hand column of iTunes, you can select the content tabs and configure sync options.
Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.
If the iOS device does not appear in the Devices section or you are unable to sync, please see this article for troubleshooting.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • HT204053 I have two Apple ids and want to consolidate everything onto one.  How do I do it?

I have two Apple ids and my syncing from iMac to MacBook and iPod Touch is messed up.  I want to consolidate all of my contacts and calanders (at least!) under one of my ids, and also use that one for the App Store.  What can I do?

Purchases are forever tied to the ID used to buy the items, so you don't want to change the iTunes Store account to a different ID.
You cannot "consolidate" or merge two IDs.
For your use of icloud, just decide which ID (or account) you want to use.  The following tells you how to move data from one icloud account to another:
When connected to the account you want to GET data from, Go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.
When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone.
After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to this new account.
Note that this only affects the "Apple data" like contacts, calendars, reminders, etc.  Many third party apps also use iCloud to store data files there.  These files may be lost in the process, unless the apps also keep the data locally on the device.
NOTE:  Photos in the photo stream (if you use it) will not transfer to the new account.  It is advised that you save the photos to a computer before performing the account switch.

  • A popup message "Enter apple Id and Password"

I keep getting a popup window with the message to "Enter Apple Id and Password". Options are to "Cancel" or "Check". I've been selecting both but it still appears. Any suggetions?

First, you have to setup Homegroup under Windows 7 so that both computers are in the same network and homegroup.  Refer to this article from Microsoft on how to create, join home group.

  • Sync option not showing only option to Restore or Set Up New???

When I hook my iPhone 3g to my Mac it only gives me the option of Restoring from a backup or setting the phone up as new. History: the other day the phone slowed down and finally became useless so I plugged it in and restored from the previous days backup. In a hurry I hit the road for a couple dayze and didn't think anything of it since all was fine now. Until... 2 days ago when I wanted to Sync new info I had entered and was presented with only the aforementioned options and NO sync options. The phone shows up with the right name in the side bar but I have no tabs in the center window on the option to Set UP as New or Restore.
I have rebooted the phone a couple times and have the latest version of iTunes - I don't want to set it up as new -- cause seems to me I would lose all of my data like new entries in address book etc.
    anyone have any solutions please????
Here's where you can see a screenshot: http://www.zargon.com/iphonewontsync.jpg
Any and all help/advice will be appreciated.
Send mailto: [email protected] if you have a hot solution.
    TIA - Zargon

You can try this, but no guarantees.
    1. Turn off automatic syncing (iTunes Preferences: Devices: uncheck auto syncing)
    2. Plug your iPod in. When it is recognized, right click on the device and select Backup
    3. Restore your device and use that backup to preserve your settings
The risk is that whatever happened to your iPod is going to be restored and you are going to have the same problem all over again. The only thing to do is either use the older backup or restore as new if that is the case. Good luck with it.
