Apple TV and Dual zone receivers

I have the lasted ATV and hooked it up to the surround sound. It works great throughout the main room but turn on the dual zone or 2 source I get no sound. Now after research I find that the dual zone only plays analog and not digital. I know i need to buy a splitter or converter.  any recommendation. Also My question is how do I set it so I can still get digital out in main room and TV and then analog to 2nd source.

By default, the dual-band AirPorts provide two wireless networks with the same Network Name. In the 2.4 GHz band, 802.11b/g/n is supported, and in the the 5 GHz band, 802.11a/n is supported.
I believe the Apple TV can only operate in the 2.4 GHz band, as well as, the iPhone. However, the Apple TV is capable of 802.11n in that band, while the iPhone is limited to 802.11g.
Unfortunately, there isn't a radio mode option to separate the 2.4 GHz band between 802.11n from 802.11b/g wireless clients, so connecting the iPhone will degrade the overall bandwidth of the 2.4 GHz radio.

    Hi,
There are two easy fixes to this.
One, you can set up Family Sharing, in which you can have two different iCloud Accounts, yet still share the same apps, music, media etc.
Two, go to Settings and turn-off "Handoff". This can be found under the General page.
    Hope this helps!

  • Apple MiniDisplayPort to Dual DVI adapter and 30" displays

    Hi all,
I just purchased a DoubleSight DS-305W 30" display only to learn it doesn't work with the Apple MiniDisplayPort to Dual DVI adapter. I had the flickering issues described in length here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
I thought it was the adapter firmware issue, so I drove 3 hours in the snow to the Apple store to get a replacement with the new firmware (1.0.3). After doing so, the issues persisted.
I am now wondering if anybody has experience with other 2560x1600 monitors and this adapter. I am considering buying a NEC LCD3090WQXi-BK -- has anybody tried this one? Thanks in advance.

My apologies for reading your mail after almost 2 years !
Perhaps my reply may still have some relevance after 2 years. I am using HDMI to DVI connector to connect my Mac Mini Mid 2010 to Samsung XL2370 Monitor.

When Microsoft decided not to support Windows Media any more, they made Flip4Mac available for free. If you have not taken advantage of that free download, this might be a good time.
It may not completely solve the problem, but your Mac will play more with the free player. No need to pay for the Upgrades.

  • Can i create a new apple ID, and still have access to the purchases i made on the old one?

I recently updated my apple ID email address, and Password to my current (newer) address. upon doing so iCloud went completely crazy, changed the timing zones on my calendars, and removed or changed data on my Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
i have tried, in vein, to get a verification email sent to me from apple so i can get my iCloud account working again, however no such email has arrived.
soon i will be taking my Mac to an Apple store to get the Harddrive wiped clean, as Mountain Lion has well and truly messed it up. what i am wondering is, if i where to create an entirely new apple ID, and start from scratch would i still have access to the apps and song purchases i made on the on the old account?

Well yes, but if you want to update those apps, you'd need to sign in under your old Apple ID to update them. It's really best to just stick to one Apple ID, or you'll run into association complications down the road.

  • I am trying to set up iCloud keychain, but it keeps sending the verification code to my land line, even tho I have gone into my apple account and changed to my mobile phone

I am trying to set up Icloud keychain, but it keeps sending the verification code to my land line (which I guess I entered back when I first got my MacBook).  I have gone into my apple account and changed the # to my mobile phone, but it continued to send it to the land line.  Probably is something simple, but I am not a techy!!

    Hi,
As regardss to the iChat and iChat Sharing categorisation you have used.
In iChat 6 (lion) and Messages (Mountain Lion) the apps login to AIM and to Me.com
The Login to Me.com allows AIM to verify the password to the iCloud issued names (@me.com and @iCloud.com)
This "Dual" login also prevents the newer iCloud issued name from using this site
(it has extra Privacy settings that iChat can't access for your AIM and Aim valid Accounts)
Ignoring the @mac.com and MobileMe entries in the Add Account Screen in iChat and using the AIM one does not get around this issue.
AIM and @mac.com names still work in older versions of iChat.
The short answer is that iCloud issued Apple IDs do not work in iChat 5 or Earlier.

  • I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for?

I downloaded Mavericks and it won't install. I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for? I never had an administrator password-- I just hit enter and have never had a problem before with previous installations. I'm on an iMac, from 2007, running Mt. Lion (version 10.8.5). I've been looking for other's posts who may be having the same problem, but haven't found any. Can anyone help?

Ugh. The 'no password, no work' thing is a recent Apple development. I ran into it on my system and ended up having to do a clean install on a partition I fully erased.
I suppose, if you have the ability to, go online and look up how to burn a bootable DVD image. Download the 10.8.4 image then use the Disk Utility to make a boot image of it. You'll need a dual-layer DVD or a USB drive (or memory stick at least 8GB) If you've got an optical drive, burn the disk, if you've a USB device, use that.
Then get a pocket drive and copy your important files off the system or let Time Machine do a full backup.
When the backup is done, insert the disk and hold down the C key until the machine boots off of the DVD. At the point you get to the start window, go to the menu and choose the Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility, reformat the drive. You go to the actual DRIVE (not the Macintosh HD, but the root above it that is the actual hard drive device)
I always do this and *partition* it into several volumes, the benefit being, you can store all of your music, documents and importans stuff on that secondary storage volume you make - it will have it's own index and then the first volume is where you put the OS and it will have it's own index as well. That way, if the OS throws a wobbler and you need to reinstall, you don't lose your data.
Depending on the size of your hard drive, it is good to give your OS partition at least 60GB and optimally 100GB, and the rest for storage.
Name your volumes, use the little box sliders to manually size them or put that number in the size window, select for the format, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and hit Apply and then the Disk Utility will quickly create your new partitions.
Once finished, quit the Utility and it will return you to the OS installer. Select the volume you want to install to and it should start up and install.
Once the installation is done, you'll get the new machine startup then you MUST put in a password for the computer. Once you're in, and to the desktop, don't bother with any Mountain Lion updates, go right to the App Store and get the Mavericks update and let it install the app to your Applicaitons folder, then do that install.
On a side note, there MAY be a way to make a disk image from the Mavericks application and avoid the entire Mountain Lion step.. I honestly do not know, but a bit of hitting the search engines may find out if there is. I think that if you looked for "make Mavericks boot disk or boot image' you may find something.
    Good luck!

  • HT4623 Cannot sign in on my iPad with Apple ID and password.  Everything is correct, but I keep getting a message that an error occurred during activation.  Try again.

Any help?  I am unable to change my settings because my iPad is not recognizing my Apple ID and password.  Everything is correct, but I keep getting the message that an error occurred during activation.  Try Again.

Try this. Go to Settings>General>Date & Time>Set Automatically>On. Make sure that the time zone setting is also correct.

  • I updated my Apple TV and my itunes says there are no purchases?

IIt's says there are no purchases.

A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)

  • I have two screens on my Apple Mac and could extend work across both. Now updated to Mavericks and cannot do this. What can be done to restore my original functionality?

I have two screens on my Apple Mac and could extend work across both. Now updated to Mavericks and this no longer works. How could I restore the previous functionality? Is somethong wrong?

    Hi Eustace.
Thanks for replying to my problem. After posting I noted the "More Like This" box on the right of the screen. The top topic was "Restore old dual screen functionality" and turned out to be the the same question with a surprising answer - in the "Mission Control" dialogue, NOT the "Displays" dialogue. There are five tick boxes at the top of the Mission Control screen and the last of them is "Displays have separate spaces" and this box was ticked through the loading of the Mavericks op. system (presumably). Unticking this box, as advised, restored the 'extended' mode and all is now well.

Wow, maybe this is what Schorr meant by "VERY soon" in this post in this thread on March 10th.
"Actually, Apple has annouced that Aperture support for the Pentax K10D, K100D, and K110D will be available very soon.
We will also be adding support for 11 other RAW formats from different cameras, including the Nikon D40, Leica Digilux 3, Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1, Samsung GX-1L, and seven of the Leaf Aptus and Valeo models.
Can't publish a release date, but this update will be coming VERY soon.

    Hey Armando Stettner,
Thanks for the question, and what a great question it is!
With time zone support on, you can edit an individual event and change the time zone for that event. This list will include options for your default time zones, UTC, and "floating" - the latter of which is what you are looking for. Floating changes the event to occur at the specified time, local time.
For information on changing an event's time zone, see the following resource:
Calendar: Change an event’s time zone

I look forward to hearing how this works for you.
    Cheers!

  • TS3623 I have purchased movies using my Apple TV and I've been able to watch them as soon as I purchase them, but if I don't finish watching them and come back (within 24 hours) I cannot go back into the movie.  Why is this?

I have purchased movies on Apple TV and I've been able to watch them immediately.  However, if I do not finish watching it and come back later the system does not allow me to continue watching and it does not reflect my rental.  This used to work fine, why is it not working?
