    Not charging
    1. Reset iPad
    2. Try another wall socket
    3. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)

  • Apple TV rebooting - HDMI switch

    Hi gang,
    Weird problem.
My Apple TV is hooked to an HDMI switch. If I am watching Apple TV, then change over to a different input (say, to watch a DVD), and then try to go back to the Apple TV, I get nothing on my screen.
I have to manually switch to an active input on my HDMI switch, then switch back to the input where the Apple TV is hooked up. When I do that, I get the Apple logo. After many minutes, I finally get an option to reboot the Apple TV.
Totally bizarre. Once the Apple TV is running, it seems to be OK, but it seems to not tolerate losing it's communication with the TV. Also, the reboot process has something totally wrong with it.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers!

I too have essentially the same issue, with a few quirks:
    1) I can switch back and forth all day long as long as the Apple TV has not been put to sleep. Once it is asleep and I try to switch back = trouble
    2) I'm hooked up to a Sony Receiver with HDMI which is then hooked up to the TV via HDMI.
    3) I'm using a monoprice HDMI cable. Maybe it's all monprice's fault...
    4) Unfortunately the only solution I can find right now is to ditch HDMI altogether and use a component/optical connection. What a pain.

  • My experience with Apple TV and HDMI/HDCP issues

I am convinced that it is the software update to 4.2.2 from 4.2.1 that is causing this issue.  All forms of applications only worked once for me and then it reverted back to HDCP issues.  I read several postings everywhere including plenty at Apple's forum and AVS where people were very frustrated with this HDCP issues.  Anyways, here is what I did before taking it back to Apple store....I bought AUVIO high speed cables from Radio Shack which is rated very high and tried that and I still got HDCP issues when using NetFlix or AirPlay from iPad.  Youtube from Apple TV always worked well without HDCP complaints.
I packed everything back and took it to Apple Store (you can return without re-stocking fee up to 14 days from the day of purchase).  After 14 days, you cannot even return it and you can ONLY fix it.  I waited for a Technician.  They heard my complaints but didn't refute any of it (possibly because they have had numerous complaints on this product).  It took 5 minutes inside for them to test and see similar issues with the box that I had.  So, they have swapped it for a new box.  Before I left the store, I checked the settings including software version and Audio/Video settings in the Apple TV that is connected at the store.  I found three main differences none of which the Apple customer service staff agreed could be the reason for my problems (surprise!!)
    1.  The software update from the shelf and the one they were using was NOT updated to 4.2.2 (it was still running 4.2.1)
    2.  Because of the software update, the Audio/Video setting for HDMI had the options to toggle between Auto, RGBy, RGBhi & RGBlo bandwidth.  I believe this was in place to make the HDMI interface output as component with higher or lower bandwidth but the newer update will ONLY give you the Auto option (!!!)
    3.  They had this directly Ethernet wired and not through Wireless network and were recieving the all the full bar strength signals.  On the box that I returned, eventhough I have 18 Mbps speed at the house (any given time of the day), the Network speed test was taking a long time.  Moreover, after the Apple TV network test, it doesn't spit out the outcome of the tests (a BIG bummer and useless for testing).
Anyways, I took the new box and hooked it up directly to my SONY BRAVIA XBR3 TV to one of the HDMI ports, disabled the feature to send or recieve data to Apple directly and did NOT update the software.  It worked fine and have tested all of the options.  From what I have read so far (I have only spent 30 hours of my weekend on this when Apple product hookups are supposed to take 5 minutes ONLY), there is NO guarantee that it will work continuously as people have had things work on them for 6 months and then suddenly have the HDCP issues.
Will wait to see....if it continues to work....

I figured it out. Had to go to general settings on the main screen and restart. Synch of audio is much better.

  • 50L2400U and HDMI Switch Problem

I just purchased a 50L2400U LED TV and am having a problem, First there is only two HDMI ports and I have three HDMI devices, I have a HDMI switch the same one I used on my other HD TV when I hook up the switch nothing happens the LED lights up on the switch but cant switch between the Roku and the DVD player. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be ???

Gefen makes a product called the DVI Detective that is made just for such situations. You insert it between the mini and the receiver and it spoofs the mini into thinking the TV is always attached, even when the receiver is switched to something else.
Of course the downside is you are adding more hardware and it isn't cheap, but I don't know of any other workaround that will succeed, and this definitely will.

  • Display And HDMI Switcher

So, I ran a twenty-five feet HDMI cable from the Mac Mini to the HDMI switcher and turned on the HTPC...all was well...until I switch to TV. Well, screen share would lock up on the MacBook Pro. Reconnection attempts failed and will not reconnect again till I select the Mac Mini through the HDMI switcher.  The HTPC plan is not working seamlessly.
I was wondering whether a software such as SwitchResX help on the Mac Mini!  I want to be able select the AppleTV, AndroidTV, Regular TV, and the Mac Mini on the HDMI switcher, and be able to control the Mac Mini screen on my MacBook Pro without loosing connection.

Okay, whay I need is an HDMI EDID Manager/Emulator...something like this:

  • Having problems connecting iPad 4S to monitor with Apple adapter and HDMI cable.

Purchased an Apple adapter to connect to an HDMI cable.  The connections were secure and the image on the iPad was duplicated on the monitor; however, there was a lot of "snow" on the monitor.  I tried turning off the power to the iPad and then starting back up, but that didn't work.  Once when checking the connections the image cleared for a few seconds, but then the "snow" came back.  Any ideas?

sounds like either an issue with the HDMi cable, or the connection at the TV possibly.
Try another HDMI port on your TV if there is one, or a different cable.

  • HELP! iPhone 3G stuck on apple logo and occasionally switching to yellow screen, cant connect to computer!

    Hello everybody,
A few days ago my iPhone 3G 8GB was working fine, i believe the battery went dead and as i charged it up again it was stuck on the apple logo.  I plugged it into the computer and no response, i tried rebooting the iPhone and putting it in DFU mode, but none of them worked.  Occasionally the iPhone switches from being stuck in the apple logo to a yellow screen, about every 10 minutes.  PLEASE HELP!!!!!

First of all, make sure that it is fully charged (charge for at least 30 minutes). Second, hold down the home and the sleep/wake button simultaneously for 10 - 20 seconds until the apple logo appears. If nothing works, try to backup the phone (if possible) and put the phone into recovery mode. To get that, open itunes and connect the phone to the computer. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time. As soon as the screen goes black, release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You can now restore the iPhone using iTunes.

  • AV Receiver and HDMI

I am in the market for a new Plasma tv and AV Receiver. Before I spend big money on a AV Receiver with 3 HDMI inputs (TIVO, Apple TV and DVD Blu Ray) I want to be confident that the Apple TV will work with this. The receivers are about $1k and I assume they handle the latest HDMI but has anyone had issues with the Apple TV? I had an issue with the Apple TV and a switch but I am hoping this won't be the case with a new receiver. Thanks.

I just bought my apple tv and am using it with an Onkyo 605 with the HDMI upconvert. No problems. I have the unit plugged into the Onkyo using HDMI and picture/sound are sent up to the tv with no issues.

  • Apple TV and Cable???

A very basic question. I have a HD TV that is hooked up to Comcast Cable. Does Apple TV work completely independent of Comcast? That is if I install Apple TV will I also still be able to use Comcast - in short, are they parallel systems?
    Thanks for your help.

I have Comcast too and I have DVR hooked up to an HD TV. I want to also hook Apple TV up to that same TV. Unfortunately, the TV only has one HDMI port, which is currently connected to the DVR. I would rather not have to unplug the DVR HDMI cable to use the Apple TV and keep switching back and forth. I bought a splitter to try to hook both up to the TV at the same time. I haven't had a chance to try it yet and I'm not sure a splitter will work, as I am not trying to split one signal to two different sources. Any thoughts or ideas?

  • What kind of HDMI switch is recommended?  We have a Smsung TV and DVD player along with the Apple TV.

What kind of HDMI switch is recommended?  We have a Saimsung TV and DVD player along with the Apple TV..  The switch we bought works for a few days and then starts cutting out.  Thanks.

Does the TV not have multiple HDMI inputs?
    There are no "recommended" switches.
Buy a quality device that gets good reviews.

  • Belkin HDMI Switch - Apple TV doesn't work?!!

    Hi all,
I have just bought myself a Belkin HDMI 3 port switch
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TM026B/A
I've plugged it all in and my PS3 works through it, I plugged my PowerBook into it (using DVI-HDMI cable) and they work great and yet plugging my ATV into doesn't work. I've tried unplugging the ATV and Switch and then turning them back on again but still no luck.
I don't suppose anyone has any advice?

It seems that Apple TV doesn't support many HDMI switches!
Just in case anyone else comes across this problem then it would seem that the only switch to buy is the OPPO HM-31.

  • HDMI and Component Switching?

    Hello all.
I have an issue with my AppleTV that I'm unable to use HDMI or DVI (with a DVI convertor dongle). Usually with my Plasma TV I use a component cable, this worked fine, but now I've swapped my Plasma for a version with HDMI (and no component) and I can't get any video output using HDMI. I can't remember if there was a setting on the AppleTV to set the display type to composite or HDMI outputs. My AppleTV was upgraded to Take 2 before I changed TV sets.
    1) Is there a setting within the Apple TV menus to switch between component and HDMI?
    2) Is there a special key-press on the remote control to reset video settings? (as I don't have any way to view the video output at the moment)
    thanks in advance.

There's no way of switching between component and HDMI manually (HDMI will always take precedent over component), there is however a way to switch resolution which likely isn't but could be an issue I suppose.
You can cycle through video modes by holding down the 'menu' and '+' buttons on the remote for 6 seconds. (then to cycle use the '+' and '-')

  • Recommendations for an HDMI switch/hub for Apple TV 2012

This seems to be a sticky issue - and probably made worse by the release of the new Apple TV (March 2012) edition with 1080p.
I want to buy an HDMI switch/hub so I can plug three devices (Laptop/XBox 360/AppleTV) into my one free HDMI port - so I don't have to keep unplugging/re-plugging cables in.
I did some searching, and found a number of highly recommended HDMI switches/hubs including the Portta 3to1 switch (990 4+ star reviews), the Kinivo 5 port switch (267 4.5+ star reviews) and more.
However the naysayers in the reviews frequently comment on incompatibility / 'always on' behavior with Apple TV.
Having looked around the community here - it looks like the MonoPrice 5x1 switch used to be the favorite recommendation - but unless I'm reading the manufacturers specifications wrong - it doesn't support 1080p.
All I want is a decent quality switch that won't keep auto-switching to the wrong device.  I'm completely happy (and maybe, if the always on stories are true) if the switch has NO auto-switch capability and just has a remote or physical button.
    Thanks
    Adam

Thanks for the quick response Jon.  Hmm.  Your right, I tracked down the newest version of the device on monoprice.com and it does support 1080p and 3D.   I read several reviews that suggested otherwise - but must have been referring to an old model.  (One was on cnet.com)   There were other people in the community talking about 1080p issues as well.  Looks like the new model is called MonoPrice 5x1 Enhanced.

I'll order one and see how it goes.
