Apple TV and Mac

Went to bestbuy today and they sold me the Apple Tv. It appears that you need mac mid 2011 and later to use the mirror feature. Mine is mid 2010. Is there a way to make it compatible or should I return?

That is correct. Airplay mirroring requires a Mac from 2011 or later, running 10.8 or later.
However, you can use a 3rd party application like Airparrot to mirror. Try it to see if it works for your needs.

Combining Apple TV and Mac Mini.

Following the threads I think this is possible. If so it will be a great solution. Any comments will be appreciated.
Configuration: Set up a Mac Mini directly connected to a HD television using DVI. Set up the Apple TV connected to the same television using HDMI.
Set up the Mac Mini as one of the five PCs that talk direct to the Apple TV.
Add DivX, flac, VLC, etc to the Mac Mini.
This way I can use the Apple TV to do what it is good at, that is play content from the iTunes Store stored on the internal drive of the Apple TV and the appropriate content on the Mac Mini.
And use the Mac Mini to play all my DivX and other video content.
In other words the Mac Mini connects directly to the TV to play content such as DivX movies, and though the Apple TV for content supported by Apple TV.
Maybe the Mac Mini can play iTunes video content, but it only has DVI output, and the Apple TV has HDMI.
As this would be in the living room any thoughts on remote access to a Mac Mini without hooking up a keyboard and monitor every time the content needs updating?
Will the Mac Mini ever come with an HDMI interface. That would make life easy. Also connecting a large external drive to the Apple TV would be great.
Any comments on this configuration would be appreciated?

With the Mac Mini can I play DivX encoded files on

Some posts say yes this works if the file is on the
internal drive, but not if it is on an external
drive. Some say to play them when the DivX files are
on an external drive it requires a link from the
internal drive.
The key for me is to do all this from the Apple
remote in the living room.
You can simply create an alias of your movies folders on the external drive and drop it in the Mac Mini's main "Movies" folder. All your shows will then be available under Movies in Front Row using the remote.
Most external drives are too loud, so I was thinking
of locating external drive on my Airport in another
room and have it connect to the Mac Mini over
wireless, 802.11n. Is this a fast enough connection
for streaming video? Or do I have to have a wired
connection and put up with the noise?
I streamed to the Mini for a while but it became annoying. Some shows would stutter occasionally and it was very slow to navigate content in Front Row. I ended up buying the miniStack drive which has been great. Very quiet.
I also bought a Logitech wireless keyboard w/trackpad for added flexibility (accessing video_TS folders, downloading content, youtube), but it's not vital.

About Apple ID and Mac App Store Purchases...

I was wondering if someone could give me some assistance for this question. Ok here's the situation, I want to use iCloud in my Mac however, I can't use it because it requires my Apple ID to be in an e-mail format (i.e. "[email protected]"), and my ID is in user name format (i.e. "deltaforce"). I know that you can change your ID into email format by logging into appleid.apple.com. the problem that I have is that I have made multiple Mac App Stores purchases and I don't want to lose them if I update the ID. I was wondering if the Mac App Store will still recognize me as the owner of my apps under the new ID.

I have now spent many hours on this APPLE ID issue and still no luck from apple. I paid for an Apple ID for 10 Years with my .mac account which did not have the email address format. So now I bought an IPAD and had to convert to the email address format - OK no problem except all the APPS and Music purchased under my original ID ar NO LONGER linked to my @mac.com address. Where did they go? I have 3 other macs trying to sync and now nothing works! Type " apple ID issues" into Google ( Google - not the apple support search window) and the first thing that comes up is many people with the same issue - click on the "Apple ID verification problem" and you will see over 6000 people have used this trail to figure out what happened to their Apple ID. Come on APPLE - Read you own posts and help us. I did not change my account you did. I am a loyal 30 year apple fan and this is the most PC thing you have ever done. The apple Experts at the store are telling me I have to pay for tech support help to fix your server issues - - Come on!!! That would not work anyway - - Just read all the people who have tried at this link and you will see that many people have this issue and the tech support does not know how to fix it.

Two Apple Displays and Mac Pro - How To Set Up?

Hello! My boyfriend surprised me yesterday with a second 23" Apple HD Display! Fed Ex delivered it and I had no idea it was coming! Before I take the plunge I need to know how to set it up so it works as with my current Mac Pro and 23" display so that they work together, as one big screen. I have the ATi X1900 graphics card with 512mg of RAM and two DVI ports and assume that will be sufficient to run both displays.
Is it possible to use them as one large screen? If so, how do I set that up? If I just plug it in and restart, will the two screens work as one or as separate screens?

I did the same thing last night, and if you haven't just plugged it in already, it's really as simple as that.
I get a little video glitch on my main startup screen when I'm booting up, but otherwise it just works smoothly. Plug it in, and go.

Where to buy a 2m power cord for Apple TV And Mac mini?

As question above. Normal figure of 8 power cords don't fit! Need a mains power extension to both Mac mini and Apple TV of at least 2m.

The connector used on the Mac mini is as you say a figure of 8, the official designation being IEC C7.
It is my experience standard C7 power leads work with no problems, see the following as an example one I believe meets your requirements, a 2M one is also available on Amazon.

Synchronisation between Apple TV and Mac book Air

Dears, I have issue to synchronise everything I buy on the apple TV with my Mac Book Air. My family is using severals IPad, Ipod and so on, and everywhere the movie bought on apple TV are synchronise and became readable on each single devices. But, not on the Mac Book Air. Thanks for your advices as I can't find any solution to fix it.

If you bought it thru Itunes, you can log into your Itunes account and download the movie from there into your Itunes folder for playback.

I've seen quite a few similar issues posted on this forum, in most but not all cases, restarting the tv has resolved the issue. Have you tried doing this ?

I just ended my year long .MAC script. Now I cannot access my email. If I do not have .MAC does that mean I cant have my @mac.com email address? It may sound dumb but I didnt think I had to pay to use my @mac.com email?

Does your ISP offer Email service?
If so, I think you could create an Email address through that, and then configure Apple Mail for that address.

I'm just to buy these two products for my Macbook, but before i do....
1. does the extended warranty start from the day i originally bought and registered my macbook..01/12/06or does it start from the day i bought apple care(today!)

addition to number 2 question, it will be "slower" compare to non intel mac, since it is not native intel as Mr. Peck said.
your C2D standard memory is 1 GB, but since the office and rossetta that runs it are "memory hog", it is a good thing to max your memory if you want to use it intensively and with other applications opened.

Apple Remote and Mac mini wont pair

My remote works fine with Mac mini and Plex and Sofa Control. But I am unable to pair them. The settings are right and when I press Menu + Fwd nothing happens, no Pairing icon on the screen.
The situation is a frustration since I have an Apple TV besides connected to a second Apple Remote. Since my Mac mini wont pair, the Apple TV remote controls them both.
Does anyone had a similar problem and found a sollution?

Does it pair if the ATV remote is disabled?

Apple TV and Mac OSX Server 10.6.3

I just purchased a mac mini with OSX server. I also just disconnected my apple tv from it's connection to my macbook so that I could reconnect with the Mac Mini. In the process, it deleted almost all my content from the apple tv because it was synced with the powerbook. When I attempted to re-synch it with the mac mini, I get an error message that reads - apple tv not responding, make sure firewall is off

I DO have the firewall software off?! How do I check port 3689? What am I doing wrong? Now my apple TV is almost empty and not usable until I fix this issue. Thanks for your help.

It is referencing the clamxav client. That application will not run on 10.6. This is not the same animal that is installed as part of OS X 10.6 server. The server install is chugging away without any errors on the Leopard and Snow Leopard servers I maintain.

Apple TV and .mac photos

I'm having problems connecting my AppleTV to my .mac account. All of our albums or protected and require you to login to view the images.
Does AppleTV only support public photo albums on .mac?

most likely the same as Flickr access.
ie as you don't actually log into any service, you are a "guest" user and as such can only view "public" images.

Apple Mail and .mac

I have it set up in Mail to download my email from the .mac server. Is there a way to sync the 2. I find it frustrating that when I delete an email in Mail that it still stays on the .mac server. Is there a solution?

In Mail Preferences, Accounts, tab Advanced, you must set "Remove copy from server..." to " when I delete from Inbox"
To delete the ones that are there now, you can open your inbox folder with the little triangle in front of it, and Control-select the .Mac account.
This should now open the status of your .Macmail folder, you can delete them here.

Can I seamlessly toggle Apple TV between Mac Mini and Iphone / iPad?

I am having a Mac Mini, iPad, iPhone and Apple TV. Currently i am using 2 HDMI cables 1 between TV and Mac Mini and 2nd between TV and Apple TV. Seems like If i toggle between iPad / iPhone display via apple TV and Mac Mini display via apple TV; it becomes an issue.

Toggle how? What are you doing? Why do you have the MacMini connected to the TV? That is the whole point of AppleTV. It is a simple way ( in therory ) to get your content to your TV without having to plug your computer in to your TV.
