Apple TV and movie rental

Hi
I have just set up apple TV and have watched 2 movies. At present my computer is not linked as I need to upgrade to Lion
My ipad 2 is linked.
Problem is there nothing has come up on my itunes account about payment or purchase.
is there a delay in this?
thanks

Welcome to the Apple Community.
It may take a while for it to show up in iTunes. If you make a few purchases together they may well be grouped.

  • My movies and movie rentals are not syncing with my ipad?  any ideas on why?

my tv shos, movies and movie rentals are not showing up on my iPad but do show up in my iTunes library.  Any ideas or reasons why they aren't transferring to my iPad when I sync it?

At the moment, I only have a couple of movies in my "Videos" folder.  About a month ago I did have 2 rental movies and they were in a subfolder which I think might have bee called rentals. After I watched them and aftet the 24 hour viewing period was up, they went bye-bye.
As to why you don't see any rentals, I don't think iTunes allows rental movies to be synced to another device.  I know they don't allow transfer from ATV to an iTunes folder on a computer.
Did you actually rent these missing videos directly to your iPad? If so, they should be there.  That's how I got the 2 rental movies that I had in my Videos folder.

  • Apple TV (v2) and movie rentals - my experiences, for what it's worth...

I’ve been reading a lot of posts over the past couple of days about problems streaming rented movies, and thought i’d share my experiences as i’ve had a couple of days of head scratching and frustration trying to watch one of my own:
I unwrapped an Apple TV v2 at the weekend, which was a gift form a friend, and tried it out by renting a movie. This was yesterday:
Now I’m a Virgin media customer in the UK, with 10MB broadband (wired), which I figured would be fast enough to easily stream HD video - and sure enough my rental started up and played fine. For about 30 mins...
After this it froze, and gave me the dreaded ‘loading’ dialogue, which showed 7 hours as my wait, and it got longer as the day went on - not shorter.
I gave up, and decided to come back to it later, which of course was a foolish move, as everything that had been buffered was erased and i was back at square one.
I then tried again today and had the exact same problem. After turning on, and being pleasantly surprised to see that my HD rental began streaming perfectly with almost no delay, I was again kicked off after about half an hour.
So i decided to look at my ISP’s terms and conditions, and sure enough there are cap’s on my data traffic of 1.5gb during the day, and 750mb in the evening (until 9pm). Exceed either of these and your traffic speed is cut back by 75% for 5 hours.
So i did some digging, and found that the average HD movie file size is about 4gb. This means that it’s impossible for me to stream and watch a film in one sitting, as i’ll never have enough uncapped bandwidth to stream the whole movie in one hit.
Now some folks have talked about getting ahead of the game, and beginning a download ahead of time (like first thing in the morning) so that by the evening a film is waiting for you no matter how long the download time. But even if this works, you run the risk of losing the buffered file by hitting the wrong button on your apple remote. This to me is unacceptable.
So lets drill down to the details here:
Problem 1: the manner Apple TV v2 stores video. I’m no technical expert, but understand that the latest Apple TV has no hard drive - rather an 8GB flash drive. This would be enough to download and store an HD movie as a semi-permanent file, but Apple TV v2 doesn’t do this - it just uses it as a streaming buffer, which is cleared out periodically, and is easy to accidentally lose.
Problem 2: my ISP just won’t allow the amount of data transfer required to stream an HD movie without capping my download speed. Not between 9am and 9pm anyway (i’m going to see if i can stream the end of my film later without the beggars cutting me off).
Problem 2a (more of a gripe): Apple TV doesn’t warn you that the file you’re about to stream when you rent a movie will very likely trigger your ISP’s bandwidth throttling policy. It might be in their small print, but it should be there in big letters at the point of sale, just before you hit ‘buy’.
The Solution: There isn’t a satisfactory one for me really. I don’t imagine I’ll be renting any more movies directly from Apple TV. It’s too pricey to take the risk that I won’t be able to watch it, so back to DVD for me.
Now I could rent or buy through iTunes, and then stream to Apple TV, as at least I’d have a ‘hard copy’ of the movie on my MacBook and would be safe in the knowledge that once i had downloaded the file i could watch it from start to finish without interruption - but this is also less than ideal. I can’t get HD movies from iTunes, i’d have to go through the ‘planning ahead’ phase of starting downloading early in the day, and there’s still no guarantee it wouldn’t trigger the bandwidth throttling if it was a long movie.
The only other solution would be to max out my broadband package, although currently the most expensive package (which costs double what i pay now) still had a 3.5gb cap, so could kick me off just as i’m near the end of the film. Plus, i don’t watch that many films to make the expense worthwhile.
    To wrap up...
If you’re on a decent broadband connection that in theory should be able to handle HD streaming then check your ISP’s regs regarding throttling. Even with throttling on, YouTube, iPlayer and other similar sites still worked for me, as they’ll happily cope with reduced transfer speeds. Apple movie rentals won’t. This might explain why some can use these services perfectly at the same time as being unable to view their rental.
If you’re an occasional film watcher in a similar position to me, don’t bother with movie rentals. Unless you’re on an uncapped, unthrottled broadband package it’s unlikely you’ll be able to stream an HD movie in one hit due to the file size.
Back to Blockbuster Video for me i’m afraid. At least until we get NetFlix in the UK
Hope you have more luck than I did,
    McGinty

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

  • Apple TV and movies

Hi folks. I'm new here. I don't have an AppleTV box. I did some researh and I couldn't find any information about purchase of HighDef movies. I only see HighDef movie rentals. Can we purchase HD movies?
And also, I noticed from Apple's website that the max HD resolution that they are offering is 1280x720. Do they have 1920x1080?
    Thanks!

you can only rent HD movies (direct from AppleTV).
    the HD rentals are 720p.

  • Ipad 2 Lost tv shows and movie rental after update 6.o.1

Yesterday  I synced and updated the software on my ipad 2. (it had been a while). Before the update I had 2 movie rentals, and 2 seasons of a TV series, which I had purchased and downloaded from itunes. Before the update, I would go to the "Videos" app and they were all there. After the update, the only option in the "Video" app is to watch Music Videos, or go to Store. The top banner only says Music Videos. When I look at the Storage on my ipad, they are clearly taking up space, and if I try to "sync" them again, itunes tells me I do not have enough space.
I have tried to "search" for them and they are not found.
    Help!
    Mandy

"Sync" them from iTunes on your computer... is that what you mean? And it is not working because you do not have enough storage capacity left?
Go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Videos. Do you see the movies/TV Shows in there?
Have you tried restarting or rebooting the iPad since this problem arose?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • International iTunes stores and movie rentals in english?

    Hi,
I'm subscribed in the Swiss store and I was really happy when I noticed we now get movie rentals! However it looks like movies are only available in German, French, or Italian. Is there a way to get the original audio version (in 99% of the cases: English)?

I have a connected Panasonic TV. I've tried the Acetrax service out and it's really good. Great quality films and a wide selection too! Best bit is that I can download any of the movies directly to my laptop to watch on the train on the way home from work. If I make it home before the end of the movie I just finish watching it from my Panasonic TV. No need to purchase again or sync my laptop with my home network as the movie is already waiting for me in my Acetrax account on the TV.
From what I have read, Acetrax streams movies to a wide variety of existing connected Panasonic, LG, and Samsung TVs that are already in the market. (and of course all the new TV sets too)
Also, when I created my account I got a free voucher for 1 free new release movie...no harm in trying it if it's free!

This is crap....no data re This re appletv and itune 10.5.
Films on swedish itune ...no subtitles...i am really dissapointed

After having audio background noise so loud you cannot hear the audio on Apple TV using iTunes movies and Netflix television programs, but no noise problem on Netflix movies or on Apple TV iTunes movie previews, Apple Care solved the problem by telling me to go to "settings" in the menu, select "audio and video", then select "dolby".  Turn "dolby" to off.  For me, this not only solved all noise problems, but also enabled the closed captioning on the Netflix movies, which were not showing before!!!  You must be sure closed captioning is enabled in the "settings" section in the Apple TV menu, and the movie must be closed captioned (noted on the preview page for all movies, etc.) - for ITunes movies or Netflix.  Netflix is closed captioned just by turning off the dolby on the Apple TV.  Netflix doesn't seem to know this solution.  Apple Care is finding that the dolby fix also seems to fix a "no audio" problem.

  • How can I keep my old things from own apple account and move it to a new one?

I got a new iTunes account today and all of my old things (videos, pictures, music, apps, etc.) are all on the old account, which is my dad's. I want to have all of my stuff on my iPhone, but also have a new Apple Account.

You will not be able to transfer the items purchased or the other Apple ID. You will need to reinstall the data under your Apple ID and pay for the apps.

  • IPad mini and Apple TV Airplay movie rental?

I rented an HD movie on the iPad mini IOS7.X and tried to Airplay it on my TV using The latest Apple TV. It would only play for a couple of minutes before it timed out the Airplay feature. I'm using a Cisco E4200 router and a Motorola SB6121 cable modem. This sequence happened several times before I gave up and just watched it on my iPad mini which was a bummer cause I paid extra for the. HD version
I think I will plan rent from the desktop next time and Airplay through it rather than with the iPad Mini.
Any one else have this issue?

To AirPlay video to your Apple TV
    1. Connect your iOS device and Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
    2. Open the Videos on your device.
    3. Locate and tap the AirPlay icon on screen or Control Center.
    4. Select your Apple TV from the list of available devices that appears and begin playback.
Note: Item 1 is very important

  • Can't find the "Video" move button on Apple TV to move Rentals from MacBook

Hi, I just bought an Apple TV. I had a couple of rented movies on my MacBook Pro and would like to watch the rentals on the Apple TV. I have already looked in support and it says it is possible to move the rentals to the Apple Tv by clicking on the device and click the move button. I have done this with my ipod before. When I click on the apple tv I get only "Summary" and "Photos" tabs. There is no "Video" tab as described on the Support website. Can anyone help me with this?
I have no problems watching or listening to my iTunes Library on Apple TV.
    Thanks
    Ramona

You have the tv set up to use your itunes library as a secondary library, change it to a primary library.

  • New Apple ID and Movies Disappeared from iCloud

I changed my apple id to my new email address and now when I go into "purchased" in iTunes, all my previously purchased movies are gone. It's not even a category at the top where it says "Apps" "Music" "Books" "TV Shows", there's no "Movies" Does anyone know why?
I don't know if that makes sense or not. But basically what I'm saying is I no longer have the option to download my previously purchased movies from iCloud now that I have changed my apple ID. BUT it does allow me to re-download all my previously purchased TV Shows, Apps, Books, and Music. What do I do now?

i have the exact problem.. where can we ask for help?

  • Apple TV and ITunes rental on new IOs

This is obviously an issue as I have read many a post concerning this problem...new IOs on Apple TV will not resume a movie that was just rented and stopped mid stream...came back to finish watching and cannot access without re-purchase...have tried many of the same "solutions" mentioned in other posts but to no avail...any help out there??

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.
Currently, if your purchase happens to be your most recent purchase you will need to click the large ‘Report A Problem’ button under the list of previous purchases in order to reveal the ‘Report A Problem’ link for your recent purchase. If your purchase is listed as a previous purchase use the small arrow on the left side of its listing.
Alternatively you can use the receipt email to report a problem.

  • Old Apple ID vs new Apple ID and movie...

Ok. This is what is going on.... This has to do with Family Sharing....
My husband had to get a new email address because we got a new Comcast account. He had a credit on iTunes so I thought that I would use that credit to purchase a movie before I changed his Apple ID to the new one. So the movie is there on his MBP and I want to transfer it to my computer..... I can't seem to do that. He is part of my Family Sharing-I am the Organizer. If I don't get the movie onto my computer and he starts to use his new Apple ID, then the movie is lost isn't it? Or maybe not. I am SOOOO confused! I sure hope someone can help me.... Thanks for reading this query! Judy

You don't have to change your AppleID just because the email changed.
You can manage your AppleID here, where you can change the email associated with that AppleID, and I think you may be able to change the AppleID username. https://appleid.apple.com/
However, if you already created an AppleID with that new email address, you can't associate it with the old AppleID.
Regardless, the username is irrelevant to the actual account. It's just a username, but when set up, it uses your current email address as a username.

  • Apple TV questions - movie rentals.

I have a couple of quick questions about the Apple TV. Now, I live in Canada so the answers may be slightly different where I am but it's worth a shot anyway.
    1) When you rent a movie, how long do you have before it expires?
    2) Why are some titles available for purchase only? e.g. Pretty much everything I've seen from Pixar Corp. If you don't shell out $19.99 to buy, then you're done.
    3) How often are back catalogue movies added to the store? I just looked up a few titles and was surprised to see they didn't have "A History of Violence" or "Borat". Is there an list of upcoming movies somewhere?

    It's a studio decision

I'm not sure there's a regular program to it all, but you can always keep up with new additions at Apple TV Junkie.
