Apple TV and Pioneer 50in Plasma

Hi All
This is my first time posting here. I just purchased an Apple TV and have tried to connect it up. I have a pioneer set top box, pioneer DVD player and recorder and pioneer Receiver. I can see an HDMI plug on the receiver but when I connect it nothing happens. With the DVD recorder and Set top box I can’t seem to find the HDMI input. I am hoping someone can help me out here, as I have seen great reviews about the Apple TV.

OK, just to follow up. I hav similar problem to OP. Hooked up ATV via HDMI to Panasonic TV, but get no sound.
After reading up (and contrary to the hipster at the Apple Store), I believe I need to run an optical audio cable from ATV to my Pioneer receiver, right?
Question is: Where do I connect the audio cable on the receiver?

Airplay and Pioneer Reciever Connectivity

Just bought a Pioneer reciever (VSX-2) with Airplay. I have exhausted myself trying to get the two to talk. My Pioneer needs to connect to Airport Xtreme base station. Pioneer requires DCHP, DNS, IP etc on a manual basis versus automatically recognizing like Apple TV, etc. Pioneer wisely incorporated Airplay into it's new recievers (VSX 50, 51 52, 53, etc) but made it difficult for the Apple network to recognize. I feel like they want to make you buy there adaptor which connects to the back of the receiver but that costs $149.
My quick fix is to spend $99 on Apple TV and not go throught the pain with Pioneer, then again, there must be a way to make the Airport Extreme and Pioneer VSX52 talk and I'm just one step away from seeing that happen.
Airport Express: I can use one but don't think I need one as a bridge between Pioneer reciever and Airport Extreme.
This is all recently new so the knowledge base in combining is also new with regard to recievers (Pioneer/Phillips).

Not sure why your Pioneer receiver is unable to perform as a DHCP client, but adding the appropriate IP address information should be relatively straight-forward.
You can easily get the information using your iMac and going to: System Preferences > Network > Ethernet or AirPort depending on how your iMac connects to the network.
Here's an example from mine. Note: I'm using OS X Lion so it will look a bit different from yours.
For the Pioneer, the DHCP address = Router address; DNS = DNS Server, etc. However, DON'T use your iMac IP address for the IP address used by the Pioneer. The IP address you should use would be in the same subnet, BUT OUTSIDE of the DHCP server range of your router. By default, the AEBS, uses 10.0.1.2 thru 10.0.1.200 for these addresses. I would suggest using 10.0.1.210 for the Pioneer.

IPad 2, AirPlay, and Pioneer VSX-60 connectivity

I purchased the Pioneer VSX_60 receiver a few months ago. Part of the selling point was the AirPort connectivity. I was able to get my iPhone 4 to connect to the receiver as well as my iPad 2 for about a month. Had a slight problem with the receiver and reset the software back to factory settings. I have not been able to connect since that time. I have the current version of software on ALL products (Apple and Pioneer). My Apple devices all "see" the VSX-60 as it appears as an option when selecting AirPlay output. When I select the receiver, music stops, if i hit play, it will default back to the current device either iPad or iPhone. I've tried checking all my settings through my AirPort Extreme base as well as my AirPort Express. AirPlay works fine through my Apple TV. Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Of course if you are both connected to the same iCloud account you have the same contacts - what did you expect?. The contacts live on the server and are read from there by the devices; so as you've both managed to sync your contacts up to iCloud they are now inextricably mixed. You can only delete your contacts by deleting individual ones, and doing that will delete them from your phone as well.
You can only unravel this by
1. In the iCloud contacts page at http://icloud.com, select all the contacts, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
2. Sign out of System Preferences>iCloud
3. Create a new Apple ID and open a new iCloud account with it for your own use.
4. Import the vCard back into the iCloud contacts page.
5. Go to http://icloud.com and sign in with the original ID. This is now his ID. Work through the contacts individually deleting the ones you don't want him to have. When done sign out and advise him to change his password.
6. Go to the new iCloud account and delete his contacts individually.
Of course if you have also been syncing calendars and using the same email address there are problems with doing this.

It is not possible to create a new iCloud account using a Windows machine. You must create the account using a Mac (10.7.5 or more) or an IOS device (iPhone etc). Once that is done you can sign into and use the account on your Windows machine.

How can I reset my IPAD 2 to resolve the fact that Apple will not let me use the APPLE ID and passwords that I want to use becasue they may have been used in the past year. I am very close to donating this contraption to the Good Will.

I have been an Apple User for almost two decades and have had no problems with my G4 Powerbook, my Intel MacMini, nor several other Macs as well as Windows 7 machines. However, the IPAD2 poses a problem of unfathomable disgust with the concept and implementation of the Apple ID. There is one for the computer, there is one for support, and there is one for itunes, and possibly another one for apps. There are different passwords for each. I am continually faced with notification that my Apple ID is incorrect or the password is incorrect. I have to keep an Excel spreadsheet with all of this unnecessary NANNY State protection matched only in pervasiveness by the Federal government.
I am told that an Apple ID can never be destroyed and replaced. Who dreamed that one up? I am told I cannot use a password that has been used in the past year. Why? By whose authority? I am not a walking encyclopedia that remembers every telephone number he ever dialed. Thankfully my cheap LG clamshell telephone keeps numbers and talks to Ford Sync successfully.
Bottom line is that the IPAD has become almost totally useless since I cannot change the several necessary passwords to anything I can remember because they are not novel enough. I also never seem to be able to keep the Apple IDs straight as they are too numerous to remember and I don't want to remember them anyway. Why? Even if you enventually get the ID right you have the wrong password and have to go through a merry-go-round of emails to change the password to something you have already used in the past year which is not permitted.
Has anyone out there used a competitive device with less cumberson overhead? Surely this is not the best American technology can produce.

Thanks to all who responded. You are all absolutely correct. However, this Ipad was a gift to my wife who was dying of cancer in the hospital and wanted some entertainment. So I started it out with her Apple ID. After she passed away I moved from Sacramento to Austin and eventually proceeded to get the Apple ID changed from my wife's to mine. Meanwhile when she was in the hospital I opened an Itunes account in my name to buy movies for her. That was the first mistake.
Then during the move to Austin I lost track of the IPAD and later found it and tried to use support but could not remember the proper ID. Later the folks at the Apple store helped me create a new and novel Apple ID that was unfortunately unlike any other.
The botom line is that I am stuck with three Apple IDs and three passwords. I am told by Apple there is nothing they can do about this as IDs cannot be changed or destroyed. I can quit using them or start a new account but when I try to do that the system keeps remembering too many things from the past and resists.
Even if I sold this Ipad and bought a new one, the system memory is still there.
I think the real problem is that destop and laptop computers are totally owned by an individual and that individual can control logins and passwords to his liking. IPADs and similar Apple products are different in that the corporation has built in their own intrusion detection schemes because of the relation to Itunes.
One thing I thought about is to open a new Itunes account pretendding to be a new customer with my regular Apple ID. Perhaps I could do the same with Apple Support.

When I started buying Apple products I did not realize how important it was to keep the same Apple ID and Password for all of the device. As a result I have four Apple ID's. It's not currently possible to merge accounts, nor to transfer content from account to another account - content will remain tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded it.

Not going to happen the way you want it to.
When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.

I have two Apple IDs, and this is causing problems with syncing via iCloud. How do I move everything to one ID? All advice is for setting up, not for after it's already set up.

My problem is that I have been a Mobile Me user for the past couple of years, and because of that a second Apple ID was generated in addition to the one I've been using for years. When iCloud was introduced last fall I did everything I was supposed to in setting it up, but it is evident that the syncing is not working as it should. In checking, I am certain this is because I now have two active Apple IDs. I would assume this is a common issue with all who were/are Mobile Me users.
The online help says you can't merge two IDs. Okay. What I want to do is to get rid of the Moble Me ID and only use my regular Apple ID. I am logged into the same things on both my iPhone and my MacBook Pro, except for mail. I use a gmail IMAP account and everything there already works on both machines. The iCloud account on my iPhone uses one Apple ID and the one on the Mac uses the second Apple ID.

Thank you for the help. Every app on my phone was downloaded using my old I-tunes ID. I just hope that they will re-download under my new ID because I still can't change it on my phone. In order to change to the new ID it says I have to sign out from the old ID and change to the new one. My problem is that I don't remember my password to be able to sign out from my old ID. Then the phone says it can change my password through e-mail and I agree but I never get an e-mail at my old address or the new one.

You will not be able to transfer the items purchased or the other Apple ID. You will need to reinstall the data under your Apple ID and pay for the apps.
