Apple TV and Samsung

I saw that there were previous problems using Apple TV on a Samsung television set. I have a 40" 6000 series television. If the HDMI port is a problem, will using the other methods to set it up work?

Doubt very Much it was ever a general problem
An ATV connected to hdmi is the same as a ps3 or Xbox or blueray player connected to hdmi
They transmit images and audio and thats it

Where can I find an adapter for my apple tv and Samsung TV with only a wise link input?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)
    DAC
DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances)

Can't comment on your S*****g products, but have you checked that your bluetooth keyboard and your Apple TV meet the requirements for pairing.

  • Apple TV and Samsung HDTV

Is it worth buying an ATV when I have an ethernet and USB plug on the back of my Samsung tv? Really all I'd like to be able to do is watch things like iView (the ABC's "download if you missed it" application). I don't really want to pay for downloads from iTunes etc. Would I be able to stream free downloads from non-youtube sources through the ATV to the Samsung, or is there a way to hook the computer to the TV and do it that way?
    Many thanks

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
With what you have explained your requirement to be, I would suggest the tv is not the device you are looking for. To get a better idea of what the tv does though (cos' it's kinda good):

  • Mac Mini and Samsung 43" DLP HDTV  gets Black Screen Only

Just bought a new Mac Mini with great anticipation for some large screen viewing.
After numerous attempts the Mini has yet to produce anything but a black image with the occasional red or white horizontal line on my 43" Samsung DLP TV. Not even a brief grey start up screen. Just permanently black.
Here's the kicker: I do get a great computer screen image on this 43" DLP TV in Mac OS 8.6 off my ten year old Macintosh PowerPC. (The trouble is it's a noisy older computer and has no bluetooth for wireless mouse & keyboard: and no Front Row with remote control)
I have the VGA cable connected to the "computer in" port on the back of the Samsung DLP TV .
This is with the exact same cable and connection that refuses to work with the Mini.
Earlier attempts at using the DVI port were unsuccessful so for now I am staying with what works on the older Mac.
    Some other things I've tried:
-with my Mini hooked up to a 17" CRT Samsung monitor I have tried all available resolution settings at 60 Hz, reconnecting to my large screen Samsung each time, producing nothing but the black screen.
I've tried turning the TV on before the Mini and vice versa
I always check to make sure the PC connection is selected on the TV
As well, I have re-installed the OS onto the Mini to eliminate any possibility of a sofware conflict from data transferred from my Emac
After consulting an Apple technical page (article 303406) regarding Black Screen issues and Mac Mini on large screen HDTVs, I went into single user mode and changed some text as specified. That did't help either
So far I have never seen a grey startup screen at all, only a totally black screen.
Someone in a recent post here or on MacMini.com touched on impedence issues with signals into VGA or DVI ports. The Mac Mini operates on low voltage. Could there be some connection to how strong a signal it produces compared to my old PowerPC with its ATI graphics card?? And just why would that make a difference
I haven't seem my particular issue addressed in this forum or on MacMini.com
    Thanks for any help
Mac Mini 1.83 Intel Core Duo 512 Mb Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Emac; 604e PPC with G3 Upgrade & ATI Video Card

Just finished testing the Mini remotely with the use of the Redstone software recommended by BSteely in a previous post. Fun Stuff.
I saw the Mini "desktop" on my Emac screen and could control it remotely, even though the mini was connected to the large screen Samsung.
But the "fix" did not progress from there. When I called Apple for further help they were not able to help me tweak my Mini. Apparently there was nothing to tweak.
A second level Apple technician finally told me (after a few calls to both Apple support and Samsung) that this Mac Mini is likely not capable of producing a screen image on my large screen Samsung.
He said the Mini supports "Coherent Displays up to 154 Megahertz and Non Coherent displays up to 135 Megahertz". On his recommendation I checked with Samsung (second tier) and they are not sure exactly what that means. Same here.
Samsung did reply that the "pixel clock (of this HDTV) is 74.2 Megahertz". Again, too technical for me.
The latest second tier Apple guy just told me said that my Samsung 43" DLP is probably not compatible with the output capability of my Mac Mini.
    Bottom line
It's all about the output capabilities of the Mini's "Intel Extreme Graphics GMA
The Mini's video output is not upgradeable like the other mac which works with this HDTV.

how do I connect my new (purchased last week) macbook air to my samsung smart tv? I purchased the adapter at the apple store and connected to the TV via HDMI cable.  The TV says "no signal.  I do not see TV as an option in the display tab of system preferences.  what else do I need to do?

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

  • I just bought apple tv and would like to set it up for my family for christmas.  i have a samsung tv and yamaha receiver.  where do i plug in  hdmi?  i assume into receiver but not sure.  also, plug is on back of receiver so much get behind all equipment

i just bought apple tv and would like to set it up so it works right away.  i have samsung tv and yamaha receiver.  do i plug hdmi into receiver?  i assume plugs are in back of machined so i have to get behind all electronic equipment?  does that make sense?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your receiver is connected to your TV by HDMI and has a spare HDMI input port, then yes plug the HDMI cable from the Apple TV into your receiver.
If that's not possible the HDMI lead from the Apple TV can go straight to the TV and you can connect the receiver to the Apple TV with an optical audio cable.

I have to save photos (for medical use) on my pc and this suffix would be useful to identify them quicker.

  • Using Cinema Display and Samsung LCD with One Mini

I have been trying unsuccessful to output the DVI of my mini to my 23" Apple Cinema and my Samsung 4669F (native resolution of 1920x 1080p). I have tried various methods including using the Gefen 1:2 DVI Splitter (Ext-DVI-144) and a DVI-HDMI cable to the samsung in conjunction with SwitchResX, all to no avail.
Any help?- I wish to mirror the same display on both LCD screen simultaneously?- However, I would settle for a solution of a convenient A/B switch? ANy tips?
What about an external USB video card for the Mini- that should work too?- any tips?
I used SwitchResX because I determine that because the 23" ACD was 1920 x1200, the Samsung was not displaying because the Gefen splitter box was sending the same signal in 1920 x1200 to the Samsung, which was not accepted by the Samsung whose native resolution is 1920 x 1080p. However, once I switched the resolution to 1920 x 1080 to force an out of the mini to that resolution, there was no display at all on the 23" ACD and I had to do a safe mode reboot to recover the display on the 23" ACD?-
One would think that it would be relatively easier for Apple to create a script that would allow a person to display 1920 x 1080p on the Cinema Display, a script that overrided the message from the ACD that tells the mac mini to stretch any resolution to 1920x1200 before it gets to the 23" - This way I could use SwitchResX and the Gefen splitter to output 1920x1080p to both displays at once (of course the 23" ACD would have to have some black borders on the top and bottom. Why doesn't apple make this available? - Spent $900 on this monitor and the Mini has a DVI output- why should the Gefen splitter be rendered useless simply because my other display is a different native resolution.

  • I unregistered my phone number with my apple id and now i need to register it back

I went from an iPhone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy s4.  When I made the switch I was unable to receive text messages from iPhone users, so I "unregistered" my phone number from my apple id.  I also called tech support and they had to remove the license from the phone number.  I was still unable to receive messages from iPhone users, so I caved and ended up switching back to Apple products and bought an iPhone 5.  I can't figure out how to register my phone number and device with my apple id.  Can someone help?  Thanks!!!

  • Help me please. I have finally purchased Apple TV and when all plugged in my TV says No Signal. Any suggestions?

Help please. I have finally purchased Apple TV and my Samsung TV shows No Signal when I plug everything in. Any suggestions?

You may wish to try the following:
Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it.
Do you have another TV you can try it with.

  • MINI DVI-DVI and Samsung 40A656 give nasty image

Hooked up like this I do have the right resolutions but the quality of the image is not very good. The display shows get characters with small lines under them also for instance the red, yellow en green buttons on top of MAC OS Windows are very rough. Let alone shadows etc.
Any idea's how to solve it ? Of course my Apple dealer blames Samsung and Samsung blames the apple!
Though I must say that I had a Mini '07 for a couple of weeks in januari and that one displayed fine...
So right now I am back to VGA which is seemingly better than DVI. A bit odd isn't it ? All cables are of normal 1,5M length
The Samsung rep. by the way mentioned a MAC driver to solve the problem "since the Samsung is a Microsoft aimed TV and should be fooled by some driver on the MAC to get things right..." (...unquote) Unfortunately he could not be more specific than that!

I see others do have the same problem as well...
