Apple TV and SONY TV

I have a SONY KD28DL10 U TV and I am considering buying Apple TV but I'm not sure if it will be compatible with my TV.
Could someone tell if they are compatible
Here are the specs for the TV

Thanks

The guys above are right and wrong. Nowhere in the documentation does it say anything contradictory to what they have said. BUT you can trick tv into giving composite as required by your TV.
In fact it has now been shown that the circuitry to deliver composite signal is present in the tv but you just cant get at the interface to turn it on. That link tells you how to fool the tv set up into delivering a composite signal. I have done this under the old software 1,1 and the new.
So you can do it almost for free instead using the hidden composite signal inside the tv. You need a HDMI-DVI-VGA converter combo to get the tv to deliver this signal and it costs maybe $20-30. Follow the links to Mauricio's video and instructions. He says you only need an HDMI-DVI but that didnt work for me.
Beware to ensure you get a VGA to DVI-I adaptor since the HDMI-DVI will probably be a DVI-D.
Worked first time and works fine. This way i'm using the tv signal directly

  • HH3, Mario Kart online, Apple TV and Sony Internet...

I'm reasonably techy and have tried many of the 'solutions' given to stop Mario Kart online dropping out (none of them worked) and now, I am scared of upgrading my TV to a Sony Internet TV or getting Apple TV since I think my HH3 would not work with them. The thought of spending money for them to not work as required is awful.
Is there anyone else who also finds Mario Kart online impossible but who HAS got Apple TV or Sony Internet TV working? I'd really like to NOT have to use the 'plugs' if possible.
Also, I've read that switching to a HH2 might be an option or a Netgear router but really, in most aspects, the HH3 is pretty good. We live over 3 levels and signal reaches the top level easily.
I haven't contacted BT since I don't think I can tolerate an offshore customer service guy telling me to reset my router etc.
    Thanks for comments.

I will be genuinely surprised if any suggestions except going to a wired connection will ever cure the mystery of the hub dropping Mario on the Wii. I've already been there
But I hope you can sort it out
Probably not, as wireless is rubbish for anything other than web browsing or e-mails.
People expect it to do everything

  • Apple TV and Sony Bravia, Slight video distortion when streaming local video

I have a 3rd Generation Apple TV and a Sony Bravia TV
When I am strwaming movies from iTunes, it appears it is skipping frames every few seconds. I have it hooked up through a Sony ES receiever, and i have by passed it to go directly to the TV. Below is all the troubleshooting i have done:
    - Changed the HDMI cable
    - Plugged it in directly to the TV
    - I have tried 2 Different TV's in the house (Video Streaming is fine on both TVs)
    - Tested the video on 2 macs and window media center, videos play fine
    - Moved the Airport Extreame and internet connection next to the unit
    - streamed from Both my macs and the WMC PC.
    - tried connecting either net to Airport extreame with the Mac
    - Streamed a movie trailer and it looked fine.
    - Changed the resolution of the apple tv from 1080P to 720P
    - Played movies from the PS3 and DVD play, no problems with the picture on the TV
    - Power cycled EVERYTHING!
I have over 400 movies on my media server, and none of them acted like this on my 1st generation Apple TV i just sold.
The weird part is that it only happens to the movies i am streaming on this specific TV. I know the TV is good, the moveis are fine. And the connection between the device and the system hosting the movies is fine..
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

    Make sure its compatible

  • Apple iTouch and Sony PSP will not connect to Home...

    Please, please can someone help.....
Just received my kit for the Home Hub 2.0, (although as my PC is close by this is connected via ethernet cable), other than this, this is the first time I have gone wireless, main reason is that I am getting a slightly better deal and that I wanted to be able to connect all of my gaming and phone devices via wireless connection.
Connected up, installed the software, first up was the iTouch:
    1.  Turned on Wi-Fi, straight away my SSID was showing, selected it, it then asked for my Password/Security Key.
    2.  I entered the correct key, then tried to connect, all I get is 'Unable to join the network'.
    Next the PSP:
    1.  Created a New Connection to get online, scanned automatically and again straight away my Home Hub was found.
    2.  Went through all the setup screens and entered the key when prompted, when I then tried to connect the following message was displayed, 'The access point was not detected'.
I have tried setting the key from WPA-WPA2 to just WPA, even tried WEP, still the same, I have checked all password and keys that I am typing in correctly.... I have been on this for 3 hours now and am at a loss, this should be so simple why is ist not???.... any thoughts would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Solved!

    Hi yasjooni and welcome
I've never connected either devices (don't own either)
    but
regarding the itouch, try changing the wireless channel (I'll guess the hub may be on ch1)
regarding the PSP, have a read of this (also note there is a help video for connecting via wpa) - http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11266/kw/psp/c/346,1276,1035

  • New Apple TV and OLD HD ready Sony w/o HDMI

I have an old HD ready Sony TV... no HDMI connection. However, I also have a DISH satellite receiver that provides the HD tuner and does have an HDMI connection.
Can I plug the HDMI cable from my DISH receiver to Apple TV box and make all this work? I'd hate to order the Apple TV and not be able to connect it... don't want to buy a new TV quite yet.
    Thanks

  • My experience with Apple TV and HDMI/HDCP issues

I am convinced that it is the software update to 4.2.2 from 4.2.1 that is causing this issue.  All forms of applications only worked once for me and then it reverted back to HDCP issues.  I read several postings everywhere including plenty at Apple's forum and AVS where people were very frustrated with this HDCP issues.  Anyways, here is what I did before taking it back to Apple store....I bought AUVIO high speed cables from Radio Shack which is rated very high and tried that and I still got HDCP issues when using NetFlix or AirPlay from iPad.  Youtube from Apple TV always worked well without HDCP complaints.
I packed everything back and took it to Apple Store (you can return without re-stocking fee up to 14 days from the day of purchase).  After 14 days, you cannot even return it and you can ONLY fix it.  I waited for a Technician.  They heard my complaints but didn't refute any of it (possibly because they have had numerous complaints on this product).  It took 5 minutes inside for them to test and see similar issues with the box that I had.  So, they have swapped it for a new box.  Before I left the store, I checked the settings including software version and Audio/Video settings in the Apple TV that is connected at the store.  I found three main differences none of which the Apple customer service staff agreed could be the reason for my problems (surprise!!)
    1.  The software update from the shelf and the one they were using was NOT updated to 4.2.2 (it was still running 4.2.1)
    2.  Because of the software update, the Audio/Video setting for HDMI had the options to toggle between Auto, RGBy, RGBhi & RGBlo bandwidth.  I believe this was in place to make the HDMI interface output as component with higher or lower bandwidth but the newer update will ONLY give you the Auto option (!!!)
    3.  They had this directly Ethernet wired and not through Wireless network and were recieving the all the full bar strength signals.  On the box that I returned, eventhough I have 18 Mbps speed at the house (any given time of the day), the Network speed test was taking a long time.  Moreover, after the Apple TV network test, it doesn't spit out the outcome of the tests (a BIG bummer and useless for testing).
Anyways, I took the new box and hooked it up directly to my SONY BRAVIA XBR3 TV to one of the HDMI ports, disabled the feature to send or recieve data to Apple directly and did NOT update the software.  It worked fine and have tested all of the options.  From what I have read so far (I have only spent 30 hours of my weekend on this when Apple product hookups are supposed to take 5 minutes ONLY), there is NO guarantee that it will work continuously as people have had things work on them for 6 months and then suddenly have the HDCP issues.
Will wait to see....if it continues to work....

I figured it out. Had to go to general settings on the main screen and restart. Synch of audio is much better.

  • How do you hook up wireless headphones so you can listen to Apple TV and satellite

Currently I have a direct tv satellite receiver and an Apple TV box.  I'm trying to hook up sony wireless headphones so I can hear both of them.  I watch Netflix on the Apple TV and normal TV viewing on satellite.  I'd like to be able to toggle between the two, and for the life of I cannot figure it out how to wire it up.  I have no issues getting them to work on the satellite receiver, but it's a no go for the Apple TV.
I have two audio ports on the back of the TV (one red and one white - doesn't specify in or out) and one optical port.
I also have a port a 3.5mm jack could go into and it says "services"

  • Capturing Issues using FCP 7 and Sony HVRZ7U

    I am using FCP 7.0.3
On a Mac Book Pro OS 10.5.8
With 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 duo processor
I am capturing HD tapes to a WD 2TB external drive.
I am using the Sony HVRZ7U as my playback deck All HD footage was shot on Sony HVRZ7U and Sony HDRFX1.
I have my capture settings set to HDV apple pro res 4222
    A. I have noticed that FCP is not capturing in “real time” is this due to the hi res capturing setting? and do I need to let FCP finish process footage even though tape is done with capture? (This usualy adds another 20mins per 1 hr off footage) Is there something I can do to maintain high quality and not have to wait for FCP to be behind capture?
    B. Having already gone through aprox 20+ tapes I have come across a few tapes that wont capture? is this due to the fact that not all tapes came from the same camera source? or is it perhaps a bad tape? or something in FCP that went buggy? i tried the usual dumping my preference files, but still fcp keeps frezzing on the capture and then not saving any of the file. I tired to capture smaller portions of tape but still no mater where on tape I try to capture I get same problem

    A. Yes and yes. Only by increasing the speed of the processor.
    B. Maybe because of the different camera types, what cameras are they? It could be a bad tape. Can you view it playing back in your camera?

  • Snow Leopard and Sony eReader PRS 600

Is anyone else having a problem with this? I can get my computer authorised but not my eReader. Adobe Digital Editions and Sony are not responding to my queries about this. I need an Apple expert to tell me what to do!!!

I have a PRS 505 eReader that works fine with the Sony Reader Library s/w on Snow Leopard but is not recognized by Adobe Digital Editions...no problem I can download what I need with Reader Library. Recently bought a PRS 600 eReader for my wife and it does not work with on Snow Leopard. Same story on my wife's iMac running Snow Leopard.
When I boot to Windows XP on my MacBook Pro both the PRS 600 and the PRS 505 work fine with both Reader Library and Adobe Digital Editions (have read that Adobe Digital Editions do not recognize Sony ereaders under Mac OSX)
Conclusion: Just have to wait for Sony to get their act together and update the software/firmware to work properly under Mac OSX Snow Leopard (do not know how the PRS 600 works with earlier Mac OSX versions). Their latest firmware download for the PRS 600 on their support website is at an earlier version than what came with the ereader! Also when running Snow Leopard under 32 bit kernel the Ereader errors are even worse (hold down the 3 & 2 keys while booting up).
Suggestions from their help desk made things worse.....had to spend some time recovering from their ill-informed suggestions.
Pity about their software support. Once you have the books downloaded the Sony is a great machine to use.
I suppose patience is the key word here.

  • IMovie and Sony camera can connect, but nothing imports

My iMovie and Sony HD camera can connect fine...I can control my camera from imovie, but when i click import, it plays (plays on camera and timer on imovie starts) but the screen remains blue and no video is actually imported.

Did you try Sue's excellent suggestion of the Garage band trick anyway?
Also, try deleting iMovie's preference file...the plist found in YourUserName->Library->preferences->com.apple.iMovieplist. Close iMovie, trash the plist. iMovie will create another one when you launch iMovie again.
Do you have the camcorder plugged directly into your computer's Firewire port? Some camcorders don't work properly if they are connected into another device. And, just to be sure, you do have the camcorder set to VTR, right?

  • Apple TV and iTunes sync dodgy

I live in Switzerland, just got an Apple TV and a Sony Bravia flat screen.  My home computer is Windows 7 based.
I have successfully hooked up AppleTV and iTunes - the problem?  It is not reliable, I always have to fiddle with turning router on/off, turning TV/Apple TV on/off and turning iTunes on/off.  The fact that sometimes everything works proves that the ports are open, but this is ridiculous!  I cannot get reliable connection, always requires fiddling with everything each time to get it to work.
I understand that iTunes has to be running, that the computer can't be asleep, right?  But why doesn't this work more seamlessly, what could I be doing wrong?
Also, home sharing is turned on both on computer and Apple TV, but half the time Apple TV doesn't see it.
Also as far as I have seen, when starting up Apple TV is never able to sync with local timezone, but I do have port 123 open.
This is frustrating!  Does it work better with Apple iOS?
    Brian

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • HT1414 iPhone 4S and Sony MEX-BT3100U will not pair, I have updated iPhone software to iOS 7.0.4 to no avail.

So I bought this Sony headunit at the weekend, it pairs with my iPhone 5 via bluetooth without problem. My iPhone 4S will not find it despite following all the steps from Sony and Apple.
Sony state that it is compatible and that I need to take up the issue with Apple.
    http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/MEX-BT3100U/compatibility
    Anyone resolved this problem?

    Hi amit786898,
If you haven't already done so, you may want to restart or reset the iPhone:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    Restarting your iOS device
    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
    2. After the device has turned off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your device
If your device stops responding, you can reset it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If the above does not resolve your issue, the next best step will be to restore your iPhone using a computer with iTunes. Please be sure to backup your iPhone first.

  • IMovie and Sony handycam DCR-HC20

I have a Sony handycam DCR-HC20, it records onto miniDV. I hook it up with a firewire cable to my computer to import video AND after uploading video onto iMovie for five minutes or less it crashes. I have tried other computers and the same problems occur. The camera worked fine with my last computer. I've been to the Apple Store and I forgot my camera so they couldn't help me.
Is my camera model just outdated?

    Welcome to discussions!
When you start up iMovie, and the first dialog box appears that gives you the option to create a new movie, etc. Underneath that is a drop-down arrow named Video format. Click on that and choose HDV 1080i, then see if it imports.

  • Router works on Dell and Sony but not MacPro

What is the best router to connect a MacPro, Dell CPU and Sony Vaio for wireless in a 3 story house? The Dell and Sony connect great but the MacPro is having problems?

Thanks. I spent 75 minutes with Apple help and went to the Apple store - they all say it is the router and not the MacPro but I can't get wireless with the Mac and I can with the Dell and Sony. What do I do next - call the GeekSquad?

  • Apple TV and 5.1 surround sound

I have just bought an Apple TV and love it. I want to have 5.1 surround sound though and do not have a clue what to buy! I have done my usual research and am even more confused than I was several hours ago.
As I have a Sony TV/Blueray player (and hate remotes) I want a system I can control from my current remote (this would use Bravia Sync).
    My issues are
    1. The output I'd use on the Apple TV (I guess the optical?) and would the Sony receiver be able to decode it?
    2. Does Apple TV decode its own 5.1 audio?
    3. If it does do I need a full receiver and could it work with a set of computer 5.1 speakers?
    4. If it doesn't which decoding system must the receiver have?
Oh and did I mention I'm a cheap-skate and don't want to pay much for the system! Although I will if I have to.

appletv will output 5.1 audio via HDMI or optical.
ideally you would connect the appletv to a suitable 5.1 amp (with suitable speakers).
the bluray player would also connect to the amp.
for me, i have all my devices connected to amp via HDMI and then have one HDMi cable running from the amp to the TV.
