Apple tv and syncing two different iTunes libraries

Is ist possible to sync - or better stream - contetn from two different itunes libraries.
I have an iMac sitting in my office and a amc mini in the livingroom (which was supposed to do the atv-job but failed due to tremendous fan activity)
i would like to connect the appletv to both itunes libraries, because their contents are different.
Is this possible?

You can only sync from one library but it also streams content that isn;t synced.
You can stream from up to four other libraries as well (or is it five? I can't work out if the one yuo sync from counts as one of the extra streaming libraries or not).

  • Synching to Two Different iTunes Libraries

What are the risks and other considerations in using two different iTunes libraries to send photos to an iPad?
My iPad is synched to my home iMac. I have added photos to the iPad via the iTunes. After some experimentation, I have discovered that if I do not use iPhoto, I can only have photos on my iPad that exist in a singe folder on my iMac. While that is a painful limitation, I can live with it.
Ok, so now suppose I have taken my MacBookAir on vacation with my iPad. (Assume a foreign country with no 3G connectivity or hot spot.) I have taken a bunch of photos and uploaded them from my camera to the MBA, edited them in Photoshop and now want to share the edited photos with friends over dinner.
After overthinking the problem for longer than I care to admit, my "well-duh" moment arrived when I realized that all I have to do is to connect my iPad to the MBA via cable, go to the photos section of iTunes and select my newly edited photos.
I do not have the MBA synched to my home library.
What happens to my existing photos when I transfer my new photos? Gone, is my guess. What about everything else on the iPad that I have synched to the home computer, like music library? Also gone?
In short, is there a way to transfer these photos from my MBA to my iPad without wiping out the rest of what is stored?
I've wallowed around some and seen suggestions like Drop Box, Transfer etc. I'm not sure, but these probably require a wireless connection, and I won't have one. I do have the camera upload kit, but I have not experimented with whether I can transfer edited photos from my MBA onto an SD card for transfer to the iPad (i.e., I do not know whether the files have to be created by a camera, or whether edited photos will work).
Any strategies out there for doing simply what I am trying to do would be appreciated.

You're right; it's not the multiple folders problem I was unhappy about. It was having to put everything in the same parent folder and not being able to select individual photos or folders from other parents that was modestly irritating. Oh well. Maybe iOS version 5 . . . .
As far as photo transfer goes, the iTunes synch may be my only way. I guess I could set up a parent folder on my MBA called "iPad Transfer" and put everything I want--new and old--into it so that every time I synch I get everything.
I'm concerned, however, that the camera connection kit I bought may not be very useful to me. My digital camera is compact flash, so to use the card reader I will have to go out and buy an SD card at the very least. But since I have no device I know of to format the card for a DCIM folder, I think I'm out of luck. There isn't any way to format a new card with a DCIM folder if you don't have an SD camera, is there?
The only way I can think of to use the kit is to transfer shots directly from my camera. These would be unedited, and I'll have to transfer all of them. I'm pretty sure that it is not advisable to transfer edited photos back to a compact flash card, since the camera probably won't read them and will probably screw up the card formatting.
I did try to connect my Compact Flash card via my (non-powered) Lexar card reader and the USB connector that came with the camera connection kit, but no luck. The iPad says it won't work because it uses too much power.
Any other workarounds that you know of?

  • Syncing and streaming from different itunes libraries on same computer

First, I came across a thread saying that it is possible to sync and stream from the same itunes library, but Apple technical support says this is not possible and the thread didn't explain how this is done. I know you can still stream music from a library that is synced with the ATV by using Airtunes, but you can't stream movies through Airtunes. If there's a way to sync and stream movies through the ATV from the same itunes library, can someone please let me know how to do it?
If this is not possible, does anyone know if it's possible to sync to one library and stream from another on the same computer? I tried this last night and for a second I thought it worked because my itunes was listed on the ATV twice (once as syncing and the other as streaming) but then when I switched back to the library that the ATV was supposed to be synced with, that library disappeared from the ATV and I lost all of the media on the ATV. (As a side note, when I started syncing again, the ATV showed that it still had all of the media on there, but itunes showed that there was nothing and started copying everything again - very annoying).
This is an issue for me because I only have one computer and all of my media on an external harddrive. I like having my music synced with the ATV but my movies will not fit on the ATV so I would prefer to just stream those rather than have to delete and add movies everytime I want to watch something different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

missed a very important step necessary to achieve this, in the summary tab in iTunes there is a check box... "show only synced items".. if you uncheck that box then unsynced items will will appear on the appleTV menus and when you click on them they will be streamed... this gives you the sync and stream from the same library part of what the OP wants.
the other part of the puzzle is to let items inside and outside of the iTunes Folder exist in the iTunes library... the library is file that contains all the files that you see in itunes... files don't need to be in the iTunes folder to be in the itunes library though..
the trick here is that when you drag the files from your external (the ones you don't want on your computer) and into iTunes... press option as you drag and the files will be added to the iTunes library (a reference/path to them really) but the files will not be copied to the iTunes folder... when iTunes looks for that file (to play it directly or to stream or sync to appleTV) it looks at the reference and says.. hey i can get this file here (on your external) and goes and fetches it.
on a PC you press SHIFT as you drag into iTunes so the item(s) don't get copied to the iTunes folder.. no OPTION key on PCs.

  • Two different itunes libraries on same computer

I hope someone can help me! How do i set up two different libraries on the same computer for two different ipods? My ipod is on a computer i no longer have and I'm trying to put it on a computer that has a different ipod on it. My ipod appears in Windows as (H) and not in itunes.
I've tried all the tips I found already with no luck!

if the computer cannot be turned on, one option would be to remove the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure that can be connected to the working computer.

  • Can I use one apple id to manage two seperate itunes libraries on two seperate pc's?

First time forum user, bear with me. I have two seperate PCs with two seperate ITunes loaded (both completely dependant of each other). On itunes and one pc manages my ipod, i now wnat a seperate pc and itunes to manage my iphone. Can I use the same apple id for both?

    Hello Schurly
Yes you can, you can have up to 5 computers authorized for playback on purchases. If you have not purchases, then there is nothing to worry about there as well.

  • Consolidating two different iTunes libraries from two different accounts

My boyfriend and I have been living together for a while and we need to consolidate our music libraries.  We have a new iMac, which we wish to use to house all of our songs.  We would like to be able to play any song from either library anywhere in the apt. using our Airplay speakers.  How is it possible to condolidate our iTunes library, given that we have different iTunes accounts?
    Thanks!

  • I want to sync iphones from two different itunes libraries.

However, im going to another country for studies and wont have my original computer there with me. Is there any way I can sync my iphone with my new computer without erasing everything?

Select all the photos in both albums and order - or make a temp album containing all photos you want to order prints of and select all and order
The easiest way is the second suggestion  --  make a temp album containing all of the photos and select all

  • Can two different itunes libraries share music on iPad

My husband and I both have our own Itunes accounts and associated music libraries. Mine is on my home computer and his is at work. We just got an iPad for our family. Going forward, we will use his iTunes account to make any new purchases. However, we want to use the iPad as the central hub for all of our music going forward and therefore want to transfer the music we each have in our individual libraries to the iPad. What is the best way to accomplish this? Thank you.

The only way for him to share your iCloud account storage is for him to share you iCloud account.  However, if he does, any data he syncs with the account will be merged with yours and will appear on all your devices.  Also, you would share the same photo stream and iCloud email account.

  • Can I merge two different iTunes libraries?

I have an older iTunes library and want to merge it with my new one...my old Apple ID email address is no longer available and I cannot remember the password for thagt Apple ID. Can I merge the two? Does it matter that the Apple ID password is not available?

Oh, ok...so one iTunes library is on an external drive and the other is on my internal HDD...would I import or copy the data? Each is approx. 40+GB of data. I really appreciate your help and imput! THANK YOU!

  • Getting music onto ipod from two different itunes libraries

I have 2 different computers with different music on each. I have downloaded itunes onto both. I have downloaded music from one computer onto ipod. When plugging ipod into second computer it says that I have to delete content of ipod to allow me to sync with the second itunes library.
Is there a way around this?
I have 'authorized' both computers to my itunes account.

    Thanks very much!
My issue is that I have stupidly dropped my first laptop and broken the screen so it is unusable.
The music currently on my ipod is from this first laptop so I dont really want to wipe it in order to put music on from the second laptop (and hence now my only itunes store).
Is there a way to take the music currently on my ipod off somehow and store it somewhere, eg on my new computer, so that I dont lose it when I 'wipe it to sync with my new itunes store'?
    Does that make sense?
    Thanks for the help

  • Can I have two different iTunes libraries on one computer?

I have my iTunes library all set up. I just bought my fiancee an iPad. She has no computer nor an iTunes account yet. I wanted to set up her iPad on my computer, but dont want my account put on it. How can I do this?

There's a couple of different optiions for giving her her own library. The following document may be of some assistance with that.

  • Joining two different iTunes libraries, one from Mac, other from Windows.

I have a 30GB video iPod I can use for the transfer. Taking my PC's iTunes, and adding it to my Mac's. I just don't want to replace one library with the other, I want to make one super library. Any help appreciated.

    You can't.
If accounts could be merged, then everybody could merge their accounts with everybody and there would be no need for anyone to buy anything.

  • HT1660 why two different itunes libraries?

My music and movie files got too large, so I've moved my iTunes library to an external hard drive.
I since got a new computer and am trying to set it up.
All is working fine with movies and music. BUT- why do I have a separate itunes Library on my Mac?  It seems that the only files there are my apps.
I'd prefer to have ALL of my iTunes library files in one location.  How did this happen and is it normal?
Can I move everything to one library?

These specific steps should apply to your setup:
Use File > Library > Organize Library > Rearrange files in folder "iTunes". This puts the media folder into the current layout.
Use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate files. This copies in the mobile apps and any other files that might not have been consolidated.
Copy the files iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb & sentinel (hidden) and the folder Album Artwork from <Profile>/Music/iTunes to the <root> folder of your external drive Iomega_HDD. Ignore the xml file and other folders for now, they are taken care of elsewhere.
Option-start-iTunes and open the library file at Iomega_HDD/iTunes Library.itl.
    Check things work.
Close iTunes, rename the folder Iomega_HDD/iTunes as Iomega_HDD/iTunes Media, start iTunes, check the media folder is now called Iomega_HDD/iTunes Media, edit if not then close and reopen iTunes.
Close iTunes, create a folder called Iomega_HDD/iTunes, move the iTunes library files, Album Artwork & iTunes Media folders inside Iomega_HDD/iTunes.
Option-start-iTunes and open the library file at Iomega_HDD/iTunes/iTunes Library.itl, check the media folder is now called Iomega_HDD/iTunes/iTunes Media, edit if not then close and reopen iTunes.
Check things work again. Enjoy the music!
If at any stage things aren't working properly rewind the most recent change or ask for further help with details of exactly where you've got to.
These steps should get everything sorted with the minimum amount of copying.
Ideally you need a backup of the whole iTunes folder on another drive for security. Having set things up in this fashion it becomes easy to switch to the alternate copy if & when the need arises.
PS the folder currently at Iomega_HDD/iTunes/Album Artwork should be redundant and can be deleted.
