Apple TV appears on iTUNES then disappears and does not sync w/XP computer

Computer: Dell, windows XP SP2 with all current updates (Windows firewall off, but acceptions made for appropriate ports anyway!)
Router: Brand new Dlink WBR-2310 (using DSL)
iTUNES: version 7.1.1.5
Apple TV network connection: CAT6 cable (no wireless)
Scenario:
Apple TV obtains an ip address, I can view movie trailors on my DLP TV and I can successfully ping the ATV from my XP computer. Once I turn off zone alarm, and try to sync with my computer, ATV appears under iTUNES devices. I enter the password that ATV provided. iTUNES says it is confirming password. The computer thinks for ~20 seconds then ATV disappears from iTUNES. ATV now has my shared name in the sources menu, but it is grayed out and says the library is unavailable.
I have tried all trouble shooting recommendations:
ATV: Factory restored settings, unplugged ATV
iTUNES: 100% uninstall then reinstall
XP Computer, router and DSL modem: shut down, turned off, turned on. (I have done this in the exact order recommended in the forums.)
I am at my wits end and feel I have exhausted all possibilities.
Does anyone have advice?
I was soooo hopeful of ATV, but I am very discouraged. :-/

I'm having the same problem (synching works fine but streaming is disabled) except I'm using an AirPort Extreme router (802.11n). I was on the phone w/ support for 2 hours and the only thing that we came up with that worked was to disable/re-enable synching. This has the unfortunate side effect of blowing away the ATV hard disk. I only did this the one time (which re-enabled my PC in sources), but now it is disabled again. Since I was able to temporarily "correct" the problem by resynching, I'm thinking it is a ATV 1.0 sorta bug. I was hoping that this last ATV update would have fixed the problem but it didn't. Maybe I should try re-synching now that I have the update.

Running PC with W7 x64. Upgrdaed to iTunes 10.7. Upgraded iPhone 4s to IOS 6. Caqnnot backup. iTunes says session cannot be started. Does not recognize apps on device. Device shoes up on WiFi then disappears. Does not work either on USB. ITouch and iPad .

After upgeading to iTunes 10.7 on my PC with W7 x64 and IOS 6 on my iPhone 4s, I cannot backup. It says sesson cannot be started. Also cannot recognize apps on iPhone. Further, with WiFi and powered on, the device apperas briefly in iTunes then disappears. Same for iTouch and iPad with IOS 5. How do I resove this? More importantly, how does Apple resolve it? Itunes 10.4.1: does not sync videos and does not communicate with outlook calendars

Since upgrade to itunes 10.4 I have found the following problems and no solutions yet from apple (altought version 10.3 worked flawlessly):
1)When you check "include videos" on the sync photos tab, you get an error. The "solution" is to uncheck sync videos, but what if you want your videos?
2)I noticed today the calendar has issues. Appointments you input in outlook (on a calendar that is supposedly synched with iphone/ipad) do not show on the devices and viceversa (although they do show on iphne and ipad if you sync both, but outlook is left behind.
In outlook I have calendar and calendar mobile (the second is the one I sync to iphone). To test, I included a new calendar (calendar mobile test) and I as suspected when trying to sync, the new calendar does not show in itunes options to check the selected calendars. The previous library info probably show my mobile calendar (that was synched already) but the new one does not show up, so I think there is really a problem in itunes.
These bugs have been around now for some time now, and I am really surprised that are not adressed more agressively by apple developers.
While videos may seem as a secondary thing if you look at it from a corporative point of view (but ****!!! I WANT my videos on the my ipad and iphone!!!!), not synching appointments you add to the ipad/iphone and you expect to show on outlook and viceversa, are meant to be an unplesant surprise for those who rely on these devices.
Bottomline: I like ipad/iphone, but APPLE..., you need to solve these issues that have been around the forum for some time now. Common!!!

I had a similar problem. My iTunes didn't start automatically when I connected any of my devices after the upgrade to iTunes 10.4.1.
I found I had to add the iTunesHelper.app in System Preferences->Users & Groups under my account on the Login Items tab.
You have to navigate to it in finder, because I couldn't seem to do "Show Package Contents" on iTunes.app in the Applications folder from the file dialog you get when you hit '+'.
Once you have opened the package contents of the iTunes.app then the iTunesHelper.app is in Contents/MacOS. I just dragged and dropped into the Login Items window, then ticked it to start on login.
Note, this will only start it when you log in, to start it immediately just double click iTunesHelper.app in finder.

Itunes 10.5 takes forever to open and does not Sync my iPhone 4S

I used to have the iPhone 4 with iTunes 10.4 and everything worked fine except that it takes 5 minutes exact to open iTunes. I just expected this but it least it synced fine.
I now have iPhone 4S and iTunes 10.5 and it still takes 5 minutes to open but now I can't sync my phone. After I plug in my iPhone 4-5 minutes later
I get "itunes was unable to load data class information from sync services reconnect or try again later"
This seems to be a common error.
I called Apple support and said I need to uninstall in this exact order

Same thing takes 5 minutes to open then I get the above error.
If I run iTunes as a different user on my PC it works fine. Opens in a few seconds and syncs no problem. I just don't have my library loaded so I can't sync my real stuff.
Apple said they support the iPhone but not iTunes so they could not help me??????
Does anyone have any idea? I have been trying to get this to work since I got my iPhone 4S on Oct 14 and nothing works so far.

ITunes 7.1 and photos not syncing anymore

I am hoping for a little help from the knowledgeable forum members. I updated to the latest version of iTunes and now my iPod/iTunes will not sync with my photo library in Elements 3.0. It worked fine until now and it is giving me an “unknown error (-50)” whatever that means. I have tried running the “repair” option on installation and I have tried reinstalling iTunes without any luck. Elements 3.0 is running fine. Any ideas…

i'm with CoJeff on this one.
typically it's the firewall with NIS 2005 (or standalone Norton Personal Firewall) that causes grief with iTunes. (we've had these issues dating back to the iTunes 4.8 days with NIS 2005), but every now and then i see reports of that worm protection feature causing grief in similar ways.
the amount of reports of problems with NIS 2006 and 2007 are literally a couple of orders of magnitude less than with NIS 2005. so it may be worth just upgrading to one of the more recent versions.
... if you'd prefer to stick with your 2005, though, let us know and we can try running through a few of techniques we've used to deal with this.

It's alright, I don't have a Mac so I get confused too. The option key should be somewhere to the left of the space bar and look like it is trying to represent railway points.
I don't know how migration assistant works, but presumably it has dumped an iTunes folder somewhere on the Mac. Inside that should be a file called iTunes Library.itl that is the core of the library. Unfortunately iTunes "thinks different" so we can't just double click the file to open it, that opens whatever the "current" library is instead, so you'll need to hold down option (shift for Windows) to get a dialog to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the relevant file.
If iTunes can't play your music at this point and gives the exclamation mark of doom then we need to go back to the Windows 7 library, tweak it up for easy export then bring it over again. Overview here. Customized instructions on request.

I have tried the tips on apple web site to make itunes start up and work. So I remove 8.02.2 itunes from my computer. Then I installed 8.01.11 the old version of Itunes and it works just fine on my computer. I think that 8.02.2 has a lot of bugs in it. Also, I have a dell notebook with xp sp3 home and the same problem happends to my with version 8.02.2. I got itunes to work on my notebook buy installing 8.01.11. I hope people tell apple that there are some problems with 8.02.2.*

1) My iPhone battery is 100%.
2) My PC is a notebook, and only have USB ports at the keyboard.
3) & 4) I turned off/on several times the PC and the iPhone.
5) Uninstall (reboot pc) and reinstall iTunes.
Where can I download a previous version of iTunes?

ITunes overwrites tracks evaluation, does not sync?

This topic is about a problem experienced when connecting my iPod Touch 2G (3.0 iPhone OS) to the MacBook.
I configured iTunes to synchronize an intelligent playlist on the iPod, and only this list. However, all the grades I put on each track while listening to them on the iPod are reset to none when I plug the iPod in iTunes. If a song I previously graded is still sent to the iPod, its grade is removed.
Is that e normal behavior? If no, how can I prevent it from happenning and keep syncronization ability?

Partial answer to this question:
it appears as, if a playlist is updated first on the Mac AND it bears the same name on the iPod, then it is overwritten in the iPod and track evaluations are not written back to iTunes.
A workaround is to sync once before changing a playlist, change playlist, then sync once again to get the new track. The first pass syncs evaluation and other stuff, as configured, but doesn't transfer new tracks, as these are not changed. The second actually transfers new tracks, but both passes can be long.
It's cumbersome, but the only way I found to record this data back in iTunes.
If there's way to rate tracks in an iPod, there should be one to cleanly sync it back to iTunes, especially since an iPod cannot use ratings to create playlists (iTunes does it for it).
