Apple TV as network input for Samsung Blue-Ray DVD player

I've been using a Airport Express to connect my Blue-Ray player to my wireless network. Can I instead use the Apple TV that sits in almost the same spot? If so how?

do you mean connect the blueray player to the appletv?
if yes, then no you can't.
the appletv is a client device and can't give network access to anything.

  • Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player model BD-P4600

I just bought a Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player model BD-P4600. I was told by the store salesperson that it would work with my Mac on my home wireless network.
I set everything up as directed and cannot get it to join my network. I even went online and looked for information from others who had successfully connected to their home Mac system, however it did not seem to work for me.
I have a brand new Apple iMac running Mac OS version 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard). For my home network, I am using a Comcast cable modem connected to a Linksys Cisco WRT160N wireless N router. I am able to access all 3 home Mac computers, an Xbox 360 and an HP printer through the wireless network, but cannot connect the Blu-Ray player.
The message I receive says "No shared PCs were found."
I am usually pretty good with computer equipment, but I cannot get the Blu-Ray player to recognize the network. I even tried to connect directly to the router via ethernet cable with no luck.
Any thoughts on how I can get this to work?

You might also try turning off the wireless on your laptop and connecting it to the ethernet cable that is going to the DVD player. If you can connect to the internet, you know that you have a good ethernet cable and the port on the router is operational.
If you can't connect using your laptop, it's either a bad cable or connection, or you may have possibly setup Access Control on your router to only allow specified devices to connect on the basis of their MAC address.

  • Apple TV versus Play Station 3 versus Blue Ray DVD

Hello. I was thinking of buying a Blue Ray DVD player and friends recommended that instead I purchase a Play Station 3. Apparently it has a built in Blue Ray player and comes with wifi for downloading or streaming films and has the ability to upgrade itself where most DVD players don't.
Where does Apple TV fit into all this? Does it have a built in Blue Ray DVD player? Can it stream and download movies and TV shows?
I am not a video game person, so the main purpose of the Play Station 3 would be wasted on me. But if it or Apple TV have built in Blue Ray players and other advantages, then perhaps one would be better than a Blue Ray DVD player.
    Thanks.

    yes that's correct

no. the appletv is not an optical media player. it is an itunes library extender and give you access to your existing itunes library on your TV. it also gives you access to the itunes store on your TV.

Is it possible to create DVD Templates with Motion for burning Blue Ray DVDs from Final Cut Pro X?

As far as I know, motion templates can only be used with DVD Studio Pro. FCP X only lets you add a background image to the DVD menu.

  • I created a iMovie with photos, music and titles; shared it with the media browser and burned it on a DVD RDL. The disc will play on my MacBook Pro, but it will not play on my Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player or a smaller portable DVD player. Why?

I created an iMovie with photos, music and titles; shared it with the media browser and burned it on a DV+RDL. The disc will play on my MacBook Pro, but it will not play on my Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player or a smaller portable DVD player. Why?

Probably because they don't accept that media.
Try using Verbatim DVD+DL (if your project exceeds 2 hours) or Verbatim DVD-R if it doesn't.

  • Connecting Blu Ray DVD player to TV

    Hello,
I have an HDTV and we recently bought a Blu Ray DVD player. I was able to find an HDMI to DVI converter per the unit's owners manual, but could not find the audio cable(s) needed to get the unit to work. So we returned unit.
I was able to see Te video but could not hear any sound.
My question is how do I get the sound to work? What type of cable do I need?
Since our DVD player is now crazy and not working, I would like to upgrade to a blu ray DVD player. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

If your tv has an optical plug you could use that for the sound
    Maybe.....
Not all TV's pass audio through the optical port on the TV. Some just use the optical port on the TV for the ATSC Tuner.
But in any case what you suggest will not work for the OP. Optical ports on TV"s are optical outputs NOT inputs, and the OP is wanting to get sound from his blu-ray player to TV.

I wouldnt say that Rwillen. I have owned LG players before that have dropped support a year after release. My sister is the same way she has bought players from Sony, LG and Samsung all have had support dropped for the device within 2 years.
All OEM's big or small generally drop support for a device once they feel a majority of the units sold are now out of warranty. It keeps overhead costs down from having to continually support a device.
NoSpinZone - that is pretty much what it is. They want you to buy the latest and greatest when really lately not to many new features are being added to the units. But then again if no one was constantly buying new devices the company would sink.
Checking older (out of production) players for firmware updates gave me these results.
LG makes it really easy to check for the age of software updates, the only older model I was able to find that didn't have firmware at least 2 years older than the date of the manual is the BD600/610/620 series. Some others had over 4 years of support.
Panasonic isn't much different, other than the BD10k, All their players have recieved at least 2 years of firmware updates, some are up to 4 years now.
Sony has a 2012 firmware updates for the BPD-S1, the first player they released. That's 5 years with updates. A brief check of about half the players showed me that there wasn't a single player with less than 2 years, most with three years plus of updates.
As far as Samsung goes, they have a horrible history with firmware updates including bricking players, never releasing AACS key updates, or even removing the ability to play blurays from entire studios. Friends don't let friends buy Samsung.

  • Can videos from my dropbox be played on sony blu ray dvd player BDP S580?

can videos from my dropbox be played on sony blu ray dvd player BDP S580?

Hello ptsotsos, thank you for your message. Welcome to SONY Community!
Unfortunately the Blu-ray disc player cannot play videos from dropbox. When the Internet video device is connected to an active network connection, you can browse web sites or surf the Internet. However, the built-in browser is not designed to replace the web browsing functionality of a computer.
NOTE: Web pages may not display correctly and some web functions such as downloading or saving Internet content may not work properly.
    Hopefully this post helps you!

  • KDL-40EX40B TV with builit-in Blu-Ray DVD player

All of a sudden the integrated blu-ray DVD player has quit working.  When I insert a DVD, nothing happens.  I've tried several DVDs and it doesn't seem to recognize the presence of any DVD.  I tried pulling the plug and then putting it back in.  I also tried to reset the settings for Video on the XMB, but for some reason I couldn't access the settings.  What should I do?

I am having the exact same issues.  When I try to access the Blu-ray menu it simple hangs at Loading disc.  There are multiple topics/users with this issue with little responses from SONY.  Please advise.

  • LG BP320 Blu-Ray DVD player

I am considering buying the LG BP320 Blu-Ray DVD player.  The main reason I am considering this player is to be able to directly access Netflix rather than having to get the DVDs through the U.S. Mail.  I have a wireless router on my computer.  My question is this.  Is the router all I need in order to directly access Netflix or would I need addtional equipment?  If so, what else would I  need?  My TV is not a "smart" TV.  It is a Sony KDL-40XBR2.  Does it matter that it is not a "Smart' TV?

Technically, a router is all you need, but that will not guarantee good results. Your broadband connection should be of sufficient speed to handle the streaming of  movies. The router should be up to this task as well. There are many variables here, so give it a try and report back on your results.

  • Keyboard for Samsung Blu Ray Player

I purchased a Samsung Blu Ray Player (Model: BD-F5900) from Best Buy as a Christmas gift for my daughter and I also purchased Logitech MK270 Wireless Keyboard/Mouse to use with it for accessing the internet, but when she tried to use it, it asked her to enter the operating system of the Blu Ray Player.  Can anyone tell me if you can use this keyboard with the player and if yes, how?
If not, would someone please recommend a compatible keyboard?
Thanks for any help you can give.

I have been unable to recover the software that plays both my Blu-Rays & DVD's. How do I get a replacement software to reload it back into my Notebook to restore it? Thanks!
