Apple TV basing language settings on IP?

Hello.  I am an American residing in Naples, Italy and today I noticed all movie descriptions were in Italian.  No matter how many times I tried to reset the language settings it would revert back to Italian.  What's worse is that the movies now all play with Italian overdubs.  Please fix this issue or Apple TV will be useless to me and many others living overseas.
Any help appreciated.
Jim

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only use the iTunes Store in the location where you reside. Unless I'm unaware of other language settings the only ones I'm aware of are for the Apple TV menu language.

  • Setting Clickonce Installer Language based on Language Settings

Clickonce installer always displays in English language.
In my scenario, I need to display installer in German, Italy, French and English as my WPF application handles
Multilingual texts based on System Display Language.
Please suggest how to create Clickonce installer based on System Display Language Settings.

You will have to create a custom installer application. Please refer to the following links for more information about this:

  • Change country or language settings - iTunes match

I've subscribed for iTunes match and now I'd like to change my country or language settings from Germany to Holland. If I need to unsubscribe iTunes match then how do I do it. I could not find any option to unsubscribe iTunes match in Itunes.

Your best route is to call Apple direct, explain what you are trying to do and work with the pointers they provide.
To unsubscribe, you would need to go into your current account, de-select options for automatic renewal.  De-authorise your computers and sign out of iTunes - but it is worth assessing with Apple whether this will achieve what you need.
The rule to watch is the one that requires 90 days to elapse before you can use your computer with another Apple Id - it may be that there is no neat route around this deliberate service restriction that Apple have designed in - other than the obvious, to use a second computer (or an emulator on your current computer).

  • Can I change OS language / language settings?

Am vacationing in Spain, and I am considering picking up an iPad from the local Apple Store. The question is, will this be hard-fixed to run in Spanish, or will I be able to switch it to English language settings when I initialize it, or when I sync it with my iTunes. I currently own an iPhone 4, if that makes any difference whatsoever...?
    Anyone?

    Excellent, thanks
Will try asking them, but since I don't speak any Spanish myself, and finding English speaking staff is equally challenging, I figured I'd ask in this forum instead
    Appreciated.

It's probably using your friend's Apple Store account.
"To modify or change your account information such as Apple ID, payment information, or billing address, tap on your account name located at the bottom of the page once you are signed into your account. When prompted, tap View Account."

  • Why isn't there an option for me to have my iPhone language settings in Welsh?

As a Welsh speaker I would prefer my iPhone language settings to be in Welsh. It would make it easier for me to message people if I was reading everything in my first (and primary speaking) language.

  • HOW TO CHANGE WORD PROGRAM LANGUAGE SETTINGS?

Hello, I originally bought my computer in CA in the U.S with the hard drive 10.4.7. I came here to live with my mom for a while in mexico due to personal resons and while I was here I decided to buy the newer hard drive for my mac which is the 10.7.4  But when they installed it all the default programs they installed such as "word"Is all in spanish And I want to know how I can change the lanuage to english? Also when I press Command Option P & R it'sall in spanish and I dont quite understand it. So if you can pleae guide me how I can change the language settings to all this? Could I do this ALL at once? PLEASE HELP ME sorta desperate? Haha, Thanks.

All Apple stuff is multilingual.  You just go to system preferences/language & text/language and move English to the top of the list and then restart or login logout.
Stuff made by MS is often only in one language only, so if you want a different one you have to get another copy. For problems with their apps, ask in their forums:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macword
Make sure you tell people what version of MS apps you are using, as there are lots of them and it makes a difference.

  • Which plist is 'Text & Language' settings stored?

Apples Developers in all their infinite wisdom have made changes to the way 'Text & Language' settings are configured in Mountain Lion, in my opinion, for the worse.
They have unified the settings pretty much in line with the way iOS4 was written.
    The problem:
I want a Computer and iPhone that has everything in the English language.
But if I set the region settings to 'Malaysia', because that's where I live, Apple believes that it would be great to see the time/calendar in the Malay language.
Well....I don't, and they don't give me the choice.
My system preferences were carried over from Lion prior to upgrading to Mountain Lion, where Malaysia regional settings continued to display time/calendar in English and I want to get that back, however, now that I've selected 'Malay' > 'Malaysia' from the region settings in Mountain Lion, there's no turning back.
The only think I can think of is to recover the plist from a time-machine backup, but don't know which plist the Text & Language settings are stored in.
Can anyone point me to the correct plist?
I wish Apple hadn't made this stupid change to OS X 10.8 and iOS4++
Calendar and Time should be in the system language.
Our neighbour, Singapore (same makeup of population, Malay, Chinese, Tamil, Other) have English calendar and time when region settings are set to Singapore. Why couldn't Apple get it right for Malaysia?
So many Malaysian colleagues of mine using iPhones have their region settings to either UK or US because they don't like the way Malaysia's region settings are defined. I'm guessing users of Mountain Lion will be doing the same thing.
I love Apple's products, but this is just one little thing that is actually so annoying.
    Many thanks for any help

    I don't understand, maybe:
In System Preferences, Language & Text...
...under Language, you can move English to the top of the list. So then everything in system and apps is English, provided the apps have English localization.
...under Text, you can select a specific spelling, independently.
...under Region, you can select a region, but of course you only select a regional FORMAT, so naturally, if you pick Malaysia, you get Malaysian format. So, in your case you better pick a "more English style" region. See, if you were German and preferred to see German date and number formats, you'd select that no matter where you live.
E.g. I am German, live in Singapore, but speak English, and my Mac always did - and continues to do - everything I want it to: English is the main language in system and apps, as region I chose Singapore to start with (not because I live here but because I want the Singaporean date and currency view), so I get "English everything" and in the basic format I need or want, but I customized the "Times" view to get rid of AM/PM and have 24hr format instead, all in the Gregorian calendar.
Analog, you could pick the basic regional format you prefer (like U.S., UK, or Australia), then customize e.g. Numbers and Currency to match Ringgits.
No problem, and independent on wherever you really are, the time zone you're in, etc etc.
...and independent also on what keyboard layout you're using and specifying under Input Sources.
So, the key is (a) picking the right basic (regional) format for your needs, then (b) customizing it where required for where you live, e.g. currency. Done.
Yes, your colleagues are doing it right, and AFAIK it's been like this in OS X at least since 10.4...

  • I can not pass the language settings menu

    Hello,
Since I have tried to get the latest build of Apple TV, my apple TV can not pass the language settings menu. I choose my language and then it loops back to language settings menu.
I have restored twice from iTunes, plug and unplug from the tv, the electric network, and so on, but it does the same loop.
Anybody has solved this problem ?
    Regards,
    F

If you can't get past the lock screen when you slide to unlock, try rebooting your iPad and then try again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Live id 'bubble' by language; msn/bing detects language settings

Because I value my privacy and really detest being 'bubbled' [force-fed geo-specific content] I like to use an anonymiser, in this case Anonymox. Recently, trying to set up a new hotmail address using a US IP, no cookies on board [either ordinary of flash] and a clean cache, I had the unsettling experience of the live-id signup site forcing me to a UK hotmail suffix based on I knew not what skerrick of info I'd unwittingly left snoopable by them.
Thanks to support @ a nonymox, it was discovered that the live-id sign on site was bubbling me according to my LANGUAGE SETTINGS! I basically prefer the UK version of the English language to the US version, and the site was trawling for this and using it to bubble me.
So I'm not aware of any setting within FF, or extension I could obtain, which would protect me against this sort of incursion by a website. Does anyone know of a 'Don't tell sites I visit ANY frigging thing about my machine, applications or settings[unless I give special permission]' extension?
    OR
Could developers at FF please build this protection in?
Or is it just that I need to clue self in better re:strengthening privacy settings?
    grrrRRR

the accept-language field is part of the basic http protocol & is sent in every http request header, see:
if you're uncomfortable with that, you can delete all language preferences in firefox as Gingerbread_Man has described

  • Language settings in Store when ordering a book from iPhoto?

I wanted to order a book from iPhoto but the language was in French.
How do I change the language settings in the store if I come from iPhoto directly into the store?
note: I was accessing the Swiss store and it automatically defaulted to French

Most likely you have a page with a "grey" palm tree or background on it - this is a background that contains a photo
First go through you book and see if there are any grey backgrounds - if there are either add a photo as the background or change the background to a solid color
If this does not work then you have a hidden photo background and you will need to go through the book again and select every full page photo layout and change it to a single photo layout that is not full page so you can see the background - when you find a grey background change it to a solid background and change the photo layout back to full page
You will find your "missing" photo(s) and be able to order
I also suggest asking Apple to provide some tools to help find these missing photos - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
I also recommend looking through Liz Castro's web page for additions information on backgrounds and layouts for each iPhoto book theme - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/

  • How do I reset Apple Mail to Factory Settings?

How do I reset Apple Mail to factory settings? I had 7 emails accounts on there and was about to add my school email address. It wasn't going through though, so I went to the school's IT department to ask them to do it. Unfortunately, the IT guy couldn't fix the school email and worse, now ALL my emails accounts won't go online. They all have exclamation points to their right, and are constantly asking for passwords. No matter how many times I put in the right password, it still keeps asking for it. I tried fixing it from Mail Preferences and System Preferences but nothing works. It keeps saying Connection Error. I don't know what the IT guy tweaked but it messed up everything.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • We rented a movie from Apple TV, had to pause it, accidentally pressed the search button on remote, could not get back into the movie, apple said 'go to settings, downloads, look for the movie', yeah, right, there is no 'downloads' selection under setting

wow, this is taking forever to communicate with anyone, I just want my $4.99 back from the movie rental I paid for. I paid for a rental, we were watching it, had to pause it, accidentally hit 'menu' on the apple remote, tried to get back into the movie, wouldn't let us, apple said ' go to settings, click downloads, select the rented movie from there',( not really a quote, but, close enough).  So, we went to 'Settings' on main menu, but, there is no 'downloads' icon....I guess it is true:  Do Not Rent from Apple TV'.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You are looking at outdated instructions, you can find the "check the downloads" option under settings > iTunes Store. You may also wish to look on the movies > rentals.
