Apple tv  , Bose cinemate series 2, no sound

I just bought a Bose Cinemate series 2 system , bought used from 2009. When I plug the Bose system through the tv box it runs / sounds perfect.
But when I use the apple tv I get no sound. Im using audio cables from the bose reciever , plugging them in audio on my tv ( Lg HD ) it doesnt work.
Does apple tv not support this system?

I have the same problem. Here is my solution to passing Dolby Digital sound through your system (this is, at least, how I chose to solve this problem). You will need 1 HDMI cable and 2 fiber optic cables*
HDMI from Apple TV 2 to your TV monitor
Fiber optic 1 from TV monitor to receiver/preamplifier input (e.g., Video 1, TOS link 1, etc.)
Fiber optic 2 from Apple TV 2 to receiver/preamplifier input (e.g., Video 2, TOS link 2, etc.)
For all connections other than movies that you want to watch in DD 5.1, you can use Fiber Optic 1 as the source selection; the HDMI will pass audio from the Apple TV 2 to your TV monitor, which will pass the audio to your receiver/preamp. For movies that you'd like to hear in DD, use Fiber Optic 2, which is running straight into the receiver/preamp. You will get DD surround (or whatever other format you'd like). Whatever the problem is, this solution works. Set up can vary depending on your system, but make sure you're running a Fiber Optic directly to your amp to circumvent this problem!
*you can use 1 fiber optic if you want, just make sure it's running to your amp and not the TV

  • Do I need to purchase better cables for a Bose Cinemate Series II

When I bought this product last year, the salesperson was trying to sell my seperate cables because he said the cables in the box from Bose were not as good.  Is there a difference in sound?  Do I need to upgrade my cables?  I'm still curious a year later.

rwillen is correct you dont need the separate cables. He just wanted to make a bigger sale. Because the profit margin on the over priced cables such as Monster are HUGE! Better cables do come in to play when doing long runs of like the speaker wires, and some of your older analog inputs. But on a system like that you would NEVER notice any difference. Even on larger systems it takes a true audiophile to detect any difference. Monster and companies like them can post all the lab results they want. Lab results do not reflect real world results.
Even with long runs of speaker wire all that's necesarry is a heavier guage wire.

  • How do I connect my Bose Cinemate GS Series ii speakers to Airport Express?

How do I connect my Bose Cinemate GS Series ii speakers to Airport Express?

You can connect the Bose to the AirPort Express with either a digital optical or analog audio cable. For best sound I would recommend the digital connection.
Your Bose speakers should already come with a digital optical audio cable with TOSlink connectors on either end. Either get a 3.5 mm to TOSlink adapter for the end that you will connect to the Express' audio port or get another cable with a 3.5 mm connector on one end and a TOSlink connector on the other. An example could be seen here.

  • Bose Cinemate 15 with Direct TV and Apple TV

I recently purchased the Bose Cinemate 15.  The optical cable is plugged directly into the Direct TV box.  How do I add the Apple TV?  I bought a optical cable splitter and tried to install it both on the back of the Bose component and the Direct TV box, neither produced results.

That shouldn’t be a case for this router. You just need to make sure you are connected to the same network on your IPAD. Try doing a power cycle.

  • Bose Sounddock Series III Digitial Speaker

I have a Bose Sounddock series III and want to know if i can get an adapter so i can conntect my ipod classic?????

    Hi Deggie...
I decided to go with the Zeppelin... it arrived yesterday... and to be honest it out shone all my expectations... a superb.. superb piece of audio engineering and it looks like nothing I have ever seen... for once someone has exceeded Apple's industrial design.... the sound and build quality are just amazing... I have been listening from everything from Rufus Wainwright / Antony to Kraftwerk on it and it consistently blows me away.... it's like listening to my Rotel/B&W separates system in my living room... but this magical sound is coming from my iPod attached to the black silhouette...
For me it was between the Bose and the Zeppelin... cost was an issue... I had heard the Bose and was very impressed... but I loved the styling of the Zeppelin... and I have B&W speakers already and adore the sound... what I was worried about was that at twice the price, would I get double the sound and build quality.... and to be honest... the Zeppelin knocked all my fears out of the park... it's about 3 times better sound quality and the design and build are in a league of their own...
In the end... I took the leap of faith... I could get to test it here where I live in Cork, Ireland... would have to travel to Dublin... so after reading all the reviews... especially the comments on here... I took the plunge...
A superb system...!!! Superb Sound Quality... and well worth the money... think of it as an investment in your music collection...

  • Why does my Bose Sounddock series 2 start at 0 volume when I connect via airplay?

Whenever I connect to my Bose Sounddock Series 2 using my iPad, iPhone, or iTunes, the volume always starts at zero, so I have to get up, find the remote and turn up the Sounddock manually, every time.  Is this just the way the Sounddock is designed?  Or is mine defective in some way?  Or is there a setting that I can try?  Oh, another thing, I'm connecting to it via the Airport Express.

Hey iPod touch users 101, Have you done trouble shooting 101? (couldn't resist, the 101 thing just screaming to be done, anyway...) Most often the little switch inside the headphone port gets stuck open, so your iPod thinks the headphone jack is still pulled in. Try looking the port with your iPod turned off, do you see anything, pocket lint is most often the culprit. If you see something attempted to blow it out, or use a probe to carefully remove the foreign debris. If that does not work, or you do not see anything, try quickly plugging / unplugging the headphone jack several times about 12 times, free the switch, if contacts are corroded this action should clean them. Check for foreign debris again, may need to repeat this action. Hopefully this solves your issue. You can also try resetting, press and hold the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears then release both buttons, or go into Settings>General>Reset, then tap Reset All Settings, but I think from what you have described you problem is hardware not software. If problem continues, contact your Apple store or the Apple Genius Bar, and set up an appointment to have your iPod evaluated. Good luck, Cheers.

  • Paradigm Millenia CT Speaker System or Bose Cinemate GS 2

Torn between the two. I want Bass that I can feelin my chest with no distortion at high levels. Guy at Apple said either of these two will do it. What do you guys think? Will hook up to Apple tv

The problem is with the Bose bar and not the Apple TV .  I have confirmed that sound is Transmitted from both the HDMI output and the Optical (Toslink) output simultaneously from the Apple TV
The BOSE bar AUTOMATICALLY selects the best quality signal . You can't select it.   So HDMI  will win and once the TV is off,  audio will not work.
The AUX port is essential useless as Bose told me its for "Redundancy" and you can't "select" to use it.
What you need is an optical selector .  I bought this one for around $20 from amazon .  I like it because its black and you can connect up to 4 devices.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005BXVB3G
Because the Bose bar inputs from the Optical out on the back of the TV,  have it now go through the selector.  Your Apple TV can be input 2 .
You can now watch TV or Apple TV normally but if you want to still hear the music from Apple TV ,  manually change the selector to input 2 on the optical selector device .  When you turn off TV it will still play sound coming from apple tv's optical output .
Works perfectly !  Cheap work around .  Unfortunately for such an expensive Bose device you shouldn't  need to buy "work arounds" but I'm very happy with the sound quality and I'm a Bose believer .   So it was worth doing .

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

l have an apple tv  2 generation please help me

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

I have m4v files that have subtitles and sound options they play fine on my computer in itunes and but  when i watch them on my apple tv there is video but no sound ... why ? all my other videos are fine and they in mp4 format.

Mov is a container format, you'd need to look at the codec used by the movie file inside the container to know whether it will work with the Apple TV or not.

  • Is Apple going to manufacture IPAD with improved sound quality?

Is Apple going to manufacture IPAD with improved sound quality?  I don't like to stream movies on IPAD due poor sound quality.

We have no way of knowing Apple's future plans. Speakers or headphones make a huge difference, maybe you can give either of them a try.

    Kevstephray, welcome to the forum.
I suggest opening the Speaker icon in the Tray (lower left hand corner).  There you should check to assure that all of the settings are correct.  You may have to experiment a bit with them.

Are you using a stereo receiver or surround sound system for the audio by chance.  What you are describing sounds like a receiver that is not setup correctly, or does not have the speakers connected to it correctly to support Dolby surround, 5.1 or 7.1.  Which is why it is only happening on some content.  It would only be on the ones that are encoded to support Dolby audio.
