Apple TV can not connect to Library

My Apple TV (2nd Generation) all of a sudden stopped connecting to my iTunes Library.
Here's what I've done so far:
1: Restarted iTunes - Failed
2: Unplugged, waited 30 seconds and plugged back in Apple TV: Failed
3: Restarted Macbook (running 10.8.2): Failed
4. Rebooted router: Failed
5: Repeated all of the above at once: Failed.
The error message I get after 2-3 minutes of "Loading "Johnathan Olesen's Library"......" is:
"Could not connect to "Johnathan Olesens Library" Make sure the computer is on the same network (check) as your Apple TV (check), the iTunes verson is up to date (check 11.0.1) and iTunes is running (check)"
everything checks out, and I see no particular reason this should NOT be working. It was working Sunday Night-as I was beaming some TV shows from iTunes to my TV. Last night, I watched a TV show on hulu-and than went to turn a cartoon on for my daughter (which was in iTunes) and it started happening. I'm not sure the issue-any help?

PROBLEM SOLVED! holy crap i feel dumb.
Connect360 was running in the background on my Mac. I've noticed when I have my Mac streaming to my Apple TV, and when Connect360 is pulling from iTunes as well-they like to fight. I disabled Connect360 and my library popped right up.

Apple tv can not connect to library when wired to modem instead of wifi

My network consists of a Fios router, which I have shut off the wireless on. That is wired into a Nighthawk wireless router. So, there is only 1 wifi network.
The Fios router is wired directly into 3 Apple TVs. I am unable to airplay onto the AppleTVs nor is AppleTV able to find my Library (it finds the name and then can not connect). I presume the issue relates to the AppleTVs being wired into the modem - and even though that is wired directly into my wireless router, when I am on a wireless device in my house, it can not reach through the wifi router and to the modem, which connects to the AppleTVs. Similarly, the AppleTVs seem unable to reach back through the Fios router, through the wired connection to the wireless router, which is connected via wifi with my computer with iTunes running on it. Other than wiring the AppleTVs directly into the wireless router (instead of the Fios modem). I would have thought that the modem and wireless router would act as a single network if wired together, but that appears not to be the case. Thank you

Apple tv could not connect to library

Hi, my apple tv (2nd generation) doesn't connect to my itunes library. It reconizes my computer and my housband from home sharing, his a PC it loads the library, but mine from 3 days now, shows always the same message "apple tv could not connect Ana Carolinaa's library". I did every thing the troubleshoting sugested me, but nothing works. It worked perfectly from 3 weeks and now just don't work!!! Can some one help me please?

I have exactly the same problem. I even remove and install itunes again but it still same. I have the apple tv icon in itunes and can send video or music which is playing in itunes to Apple TV but when I choose from Apple TV to connect to the computer it says: "Apple TV could not to Library" ??
Any idea?

Recently I've run into a problem where my AppleTVs will not see our main library. We have two libraries that we share on our network, and most of the content is on our office computer named "iMac Library". Over the last two days, more often than not it will time out when trying to connect to that library, giving me the message that it can't connect and I should check my home sharing settings, etc. If I go into the office and shut down iTunes, then start iTunes again, it will see it fine. Is anyone else experiencing this? I've got two AppleTV 2s and one of the latest (1080p) AppleTVs (is this referred to as a AppleTV 3 or 2.1 or what?) and it does it on all three units.
Any help would be appreciated.

The iTunes shut down/restart method has worked 100% of the time for me, but it also seems to have not happened over the last 3-4 days as much. I'm used to Apple mysteriously applying patches to fix stuff while not even acknowledging it on the forums so maybe that's what happened here.
Best example of this was when an update broke the order of your TV shows, throwing any shows in iTunes totally out of alphabetical order and it was like that for a few weeks with zero acknowledgement from Apple. The only thing that made it bearable was that the forums errupted with people having the same issue, so you knew it was going to be addressed at some point. I'm worried that since there doesn't seem to be an outpouring of other users with the same problem that it might not be as widespread, and I don't really like the idea of a several hour call to tech support troubleshooting this.
I'll keep the thread updated with any changes, but for right now it seems like it may have fixed itself. Hope that is the case with your issue as well.

My 3rd generation apple TV can not connect to iTunes

Unitl recently my 3rd generation Apple TV was working just fine, however starting about a week ago I've not able to watch my purchased shows on itunes. Strangly enough I can watch previews of the same shows I have bought. I have three iPads and a 2008 macbook pro all of which are able to stream my purchased shows from iTunes. The first thing I tried was to reboot the apple TV. Next I unplugged the apple TV and then plugged it back in. After neither of these worked I followed a link to instructions I found on this site from another very similar post. The link is Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Restoring your Apple TV - Apple Support and I followed the outlined proceedure. However, the problem persists. Is it time to call my local apple store, or is there somehting else I can do?

This has been happening to us off and on for the past two evenings. It's obviously an Apple problem. I can access numerous other internet enabled features...and I can even watch the "previews" of the movies I own. It is VERY frustrating to not have access to these purchases when I want. FYI: This is happening on two seperate Apple TV devices in my home. (works fine now...but not last night when we wanted to watch)

Power cycle the ATV and router.
If the problem continues, on the ATV select Settings > General > Reset.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

Since the update to iTunes 11.0.4 my AppleTV can not connect to my library

Ever since the latest iTunes update my AppleTV gen 3 can not connect to the library on my laptop. It worked perfect until this update. I checked to see if there was an AppleTV update but it says there isn't one.
I checked that all are on the same network and Home Sharing is on and everything is signed in to the same iTunes account. All the settings are the same as they were before the update.
Any idea how to fix this?

Apple plans to do nothing. I just spoke with Tech Support who told me that it has been my imagination that I have been using Home Sharing without having iTunes open on my computer. Further, that these issues are occuring and complaints about them are from other websites, he had no idea that Apple had these threads running on their website - idiot! I guess that the only way to Home Share is to have iTunes open on your computer at all times, even if you have everything in the cloud. He could not explain to me how every other device was able to Home Share without iTunes being open.
Apple is aware that these complaints are all over their site, however, they have no intention to resolve the problem and if you want someone to toy with you like you are an idiot you can purchase an extension of your Apple Care and allow them to frustrate you more.

I've been having this problem for weeks and have found no solution to it. There are lots of other people with this issue too if you look back on the boards. I even e-mailed AND called Apple and have had no luck. I tried all the suggestions they gave me and all the ones I found on here- nothing worked. I even uninstalled and re-installed iTunes (boy was that a pain!) and no difference.
The weird part is that I have an old laptop that works and if I buy music with the laptop I can download it with my regular computer buy buying does not work on my regular computer. That tells me it's not a connection issue. I can't get to my account either.
I can't figure out why an issue that has kept so many people from purchasing a product has been ignored!
