Apple TV causes my computer to freeze up

I have a Dell laptop about 3 years old.  I've used to stream video from the internet all the time and with my new Apple TV (the little one) I can now let the family watch our home movies on the TV without having to hook the laptop to the TV.  However, every time I access my computer from the Apple TV menu and start to watch a movie, after about 5 minutes my computer freezes up and it requires a hard reboot.  If this were happening with other forms of streming, then i would think something is wrong with my laptop.  but it only happens when I stream to the Apple TV.  Anyone else experience this or have an idea what this could be caused by?
Thanks

The MBP is picking up the signal of the remote. Go into system preferences - security - general. Click on the padlock, go into advanced. Check disable remote control infrared receiver.

• ITunes is causing entire computer to freeze.....

iTunes is causing my entire computer to freeze since my last upgrade. If I'm using the application or its up and I'm not using it, after a while, it will cause the entire computer to freeze and I have to do an emergency shutdown because my mouse won't even move. Everything is locked up @ this point. Having the iPod plug in without the application up doesn't really seem to bother from what I've seen it but there were occasions when the iPod was plugged in and the application was in use that the computer made this skitzing sound and then completely locked up. I got the blue screen on approx. 2 occasions. And when I plug my iPod up to some speakers in the same manner you plug up headphones (Sony brand), I got that same skitzing sound while listening to one of the songs, but it didn't stop playing.
It has froze/shutdown while using the application alone while I'm browsing the store for different items. This is the majority of the times it has happen.
It has froze/shutdown while the iPod was plugged in.
It has froze/shutdown while the application has been open on the computer but not in use. And this is the only common factor going on in relation to the shutdowns.
I use the same thing basically everytime I come on this computer. Always FireFox, MSN, Gmail Talk, & Yahoo Messenger running in the background. <--- This hasn't caused a problem before. And that's about it. I've had the computer to slow down due to low memory but not the skitzing sounds and frequency of shutdowns its experiencing now.
Can anybody relate to this and if so, then what should I do? Is there a problem with the last release? And at this point, what should I do about this?

i had a similar problem recently. what happened to me was that itunes was doing some kinda "reeding" of music files of some sort [i honestly dont remember the exact name of the action], but whenever it got to a certain song, it would do the same thing you are describing which is crash the computer or freeze it up. i decided to actually FIND the file that was causing the problem and when i got rig of the file and started itunes [this after having to turn itunes on and watch my computer freeze up again to acquire the song name] it worked perfectly.
it seems to me that [since the file itself was a rip of a rip] it might have been corrupted some how and so itunes didnt know what to do with it. i looked at the file and an mp3 file that should be in the range of 2-5mb was actually in the range of 1-200kb which leads me to believe that the file was corrupted.
i dont know if that will help, but i hope you get your problem resolved...

• Help...program will freeze, then cause entire computer to freeze

This problem used to be extremely infrequent, but lately (as in the past 2 weeks) I've had this problem at least once a day (sometimes 2 or 3 times).
I did do the recent software update, so that might have something to do with it...anyways, I'll be using a program (say, Safari) and Safari will freeze on a webpage. I can still move the mouse around, but it's stuck on the color wheel thingy. I can't click on anything, so I usually just shut the computer down by holding the power button down, then restarting the computer. The other day, it was Mail that caused the color wheel of death to pop up. Then today, Thunderbird (email application I very recently installed b/c both Mail and Entourage crapped out on me) froze, and again I had to restart the computer.
Does anyone have suggestions of what might be wrong and any advice to fix this issue?
Thanks!
Powerbook G4 17 inch screen   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.5 Ghz, 512 MB DDR SDRAM

I've just purchased a G4 17" and forive me if everyone else knows this already but--I was having the same kind of stalling until I checked the running processes and saw this faxjobmgr program using 50% and more of the cpu even while it wasn't doing anything. You need to remove it from the startup items and then kill it, kill it, kill it.

• Target Mode causes new computer to freeze/hang up

Hello,
I recently purchased a IMac G5 (10.4.11) and am trying to transfer my items from a G4 (10.4.11) via target mode/migration assistant. I follow all the steps, the G4 goes into target mode and the target disc icon appears on the new computer. From here on out, at various times, my new computer freezes or I get the spinning beach ball of death. The farthest I got was to check which items I want to transfer but I never actually made it to see the items. Any clues??? There is sufficient space/and memory on both computers if that should make a difference.
Thanks,
Randy

Then if it is OK, ask him to do the target disk mode for you. Let him troubleshoot it for you. While migration from PowerPC to Intel Macs may have trouble your G5 to G4 transfer as suggested should not cause a problem.
It may also need a new clock battery if the machine is older than 4 years. Any Mac that is older than 4 years may need it.
The repair issue which the program covers may affect the ability of Target Mode to work, and so may a clock battery issue do the same.

• Whay am I having script errors with some of my websites only on Firefox, not other browsers, causing the computer to freeze for a bit at a time.

I keep getting "script" errors and my computer locking up while using Mozilla Firefox on some of my websites. I don't have this problem while using Internet Explorer. Why has this just started and how can I resolve this? I like Firefox, but will have to start using a different browser if this doesn't get resolved.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• What is causing my computer to freeze up and have to be unpluged to restart it.

HP Pavilion p2 Series.
Several times a week my computer freeses up and the only way that I can get it to work is to unplug it and then plug it back in and restart it.  Then it works fine untill it happens again.    This happens several times a week (3 to 4).
I am using all the hard ware that came with it with the addition of a wireless internet atachment.  Do I need to return it to the company for the warranty?  Or is it something that I can fix or my computer guy.
Sabrina

Sabrina,
It would help if you provided the full model name like p2-1105wb, or whatever it is - gives us a bit more info to work with.
If the PC is new and in the return policy time from where you purchased it - returning it for a different one is an option.   If it is past that date, if it's still in its one year warranty period, you can contact HP support line for assistance.
I'd try to make sure that the PC and all its peripherals (printer, monitor, etc) are plugged into the same power strip, to ensure you don't have some sort of power issue that could cause a problem.    Anything else you can provide to give us more insight can help.

• Apple Headphones causing iPad video to freeze/skip?

I have been using the apple headphones with my ipad that came with my iphone 3GS, the ones with the mic and volume control on them.
However, recently when watching video with this headset plugged in the video randomly freezes, skips, stops and jumps to other chapters.
Since these headphones have the ability to do all this by double/triple clicking, etc, I'm assuming the headphones are somehow inadvertently sending these signals to the ipad, because when I don't have them plugged in (or use older versions of the apple headphones) I don't have the same issue.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and do you think it is an issue just with the headphones or could it be with the ipad itself?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

It is really good to hear that I'm not the only one!
However, I'd really love to know if this is an issue with the iPad or the headphones before I consider buying a new pair of headphones. I like the ability to pause/skip/etc with the headphones, but if that feature comes with the price of random skipping/freezing/etc, then its obviously not worth it!
Anyone else having this issue? Should I be buying new headphones or returning my iPad?

• Iphone causes computer to freeze while on dock.

Hey guys, I just opened up my iphone today and it's great. However, my iphone causes my computer to freeze. I'm using the universal dock and the oem usb cable to connect to my computer (USB 2.0). While plugged in the iphone charges and shows the screen with battery indicator. However, after a while my iphone's wallpaper comes up and freezes my computer (have to restart computer). My iphone is still fully functional though.
So here's what I tried so far that didn't work:
1. Reinstalling itunes (latest).
2. Reinstalling USB 2.0 drivers for my motherboard.
3. Powercycling iphone.
4. Restarting computer.
5. Switching USB ports.
6. Turning off auto-lock.
I built my computer myself and some of the specs are:
AMD64 3200
Asus K8V Deluxe
2GB ram
Windows XP Pro SP2 (Fresh Install)

Okay so I have tried and it still freezes:
- Changing USB ports to high speed 480MBps in bios
- Changing USB cables
- Using it without the universal dock
- Used a seperate partition (another windows xp system partition)
None of these resolved my issues so far. Right now I have it hooked up to my macbook pro and I'm monitoring how it's going. Anyone has had similar experiences with this? Tomorrow I'm going to try to plug in my brother's ipod just to see if it freezes also.

• Fan problem causing my powerbook to freeze...

i have a bit of a weird problem...
first off, when i use my powerbook, everything sounds alright, but when i tilt my computer (from horizontal) the fan makes a louder noise. i sent it to applecare a few weeks ago and they were supposed to have fixed this problem (along with replacing my casing).
now, without any specific pattern, my computer will start to freeze with the use of any and all programs. i use 4-5 programs at a time, which is the same as before, before this problem started. the only change ive made to my setup is the use of an external monitor. at first i was using the computer with the lid down (while plugged into a 3-fan usb platform). the spinning pinwheel problem started to show up more and more so i started using the powerbook with the lid open and the additional monitor.
the oddest thing about this problem is that the freezing (spinning pinwheel) will go away and back to normal use if i tilt my computer from horiztonal (making that louder fan noise).
does anyone out there know what is going on with my powerbook?
PLEASE HELP!!!

You mentioned that you got router and the adapter, is the adapter connected to the computer? In most cases the adapter when connected to computer due to some hardware conflict with other devices causes the computer to freeze or get the blue screen error. It should not be cause of the router.

• Computer is overheating - causes programs to keep freezing up.

My computer over heats, is there anyway to fix this because its causing my finder to freeze as well as certain programs that I use. I did a disk repair and it seems ok, but when I use my computer now, sometimes the temp rises to 197-200 degrees. I monitor it with SMC fan control but have no idea how to run the computer cooler.
Note. I do not have air conditioning in my house where I use my laptop.

Hi
If it's still under warranty I would get it seen by an Apple Authorised Repair Specialist or make a Genius Bar appointment. If it's overheating regularly and with little usage there's clearly a hardware problem somewhere. Possibly a failed or failing sensor? It may even be the main board?
If you restart your laptop and hold down the 'D' key this should access the hardware diagnostic test. Run the extended tests. You may see an error message an error message at the end of the test which may give a clue as to what is going on?
Be patient with the hardware diagnostic test as it does take a short while for it to kick in. This assumes the hard drive has never been wiped.

• Downloading itunes causes computer to freeze because of high computer usage...how do i fix it?

downloading itunes causes computer to freeze because of high computer usage...how do i fix it?

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
