Apple tv "check for rental" pointless

APPLE TV IS DRIIVING ME CRAZY!!!
It is impossible. Every time I rent a movie I lose it. The "check for rental" option does not work, there is no "download" option that we are tild to check, and APPLE does not have a customer complaint area. Customer support is not the same as customer complaint. I dont need support, it is Apple who needs support to get this right.  Plus, Apple TV and iTunes do not have a good interface with each other.  How fast canda good name be lost?

No service currently available but it is coming definitely to the US and hopefully to other countries once Apple has thrashed out a mutually acceptable deal with the movie companies.

  • Check for Rentals on Apple TV does not work

I have rented many movies in the past using Apple TV. I have not had a problem until now, right after I just updated my Apple TV software to the latest software v6.0 (6646.65).
Last night (9/28) I rented World War Z. Roughly 20 minutes into the movie, I stopped the move by hitting the menu button. This exited me from the movie and back to the movies rentals screen.  I then rented another movie only a few minutes after exiting the first. I had no problem renting the second movie as I did not exit the movie once the streaming started.
A few hours later I went back to watch the move by selecting the movie.  The rental option was still availabe. By selecting to rent the movie again and then selecting "Rent and watch now", the system told me I had already rented the movie and I should go to Settings->Downloads->Check for Downloads.  This options does NOT exist in the settings menu; however, I found a similar option under iTunes Store->Check for Rentals.
This "Check for Rentals" option does absolutely nothing - or it doesn't show anything if it is doing something behind the scenes.  It just shows the spinning lines. I waited all night for something to happen. I restarted my router and modem to make sure there was nothing wrong with networking. Again, I had just watched another movie all the way through with no problems. I sent Apple Support an email with my issue and they refunded my $4.99 for the movie rental.
So, tonight (9/29), I still wanted to watch the movie and I wanted to see if it would work. I went to the movie, selected to rent the movie and it gave me an optionsaying that I had already rented the movie and asking me if I wanted to rent it again. I selected to rent it again.  I was able to watch the movie all the way through with no problem.
I ended the movie during the credits by hitting the menu button. I immediately went back to the movie to see if I could continue the movie since I should be able to watch this movie in the next 24 hours.  The same situation happened again. I was told I could not rent the movie again, but to go to Settings->Download->Check for downloads. The "Check for Rentals" is doing the same thing.
So, my question is how do I fix this or is there even a fix for this situation?  If I can't watch a movie without the fear of exiting the movie for whatever reason and not be able to return to the rented movie, I will not continue to rent movies from Apple TV. I enjoy renting them through Apple TV, but I definitely have multiple options (i.e. XBox Live, PS Network/Amazon, Redbox, etc.).  I really want to understand why this is happening and if it's going to be fixed.
    Thank you for any feedback!

I have been working on this project for just one day.  Other people have suggested logging out and then logging back in.  I have had sucsess with this sollution today.

A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

  • HT1657 watching a movie on Apple TV and it just stops in the middle of it.  Try settings and check for rental and just get the spinning wheel for over 30 minutes.

Can't seem to finish a movie on AppleTV.  It just stops in the middle of movie and returns to menu.  Try to check for rentals under settings like it says to when we try and download movie again and all I get is a spinning wheel.  At least the second this has happened in the middle of a movie.  Beginning to think AppleTV is junk!

    Hello Pauljfield,
You may want to report the issue you've had with your rental to the folks in our iTunes Store.

  • HT1498 I rent a movie and I can see it.  And I go to iTunes Store, check for rentals and its not loading the movie.

I rent a movie and I can't see it.   I went to itune store and check for rentals, but its not loading the movie.  What should I do?

I went to check for rentals on Apple TV to find rental. There is no support and no resolve. The screen just kept loading, never showing the movie after I purchased it. This is the second time this has happened to me. Very disappointed.
My have to look for alternative..

  • Can't finish watching iTunes rental movie after pausing - can't restart movie via Settings - iTunes Store - Check for Rentals?

I rented a movie from itunes using Apple tv. Half way through, I paused it and then accidentally hit menu instead of play. i was  directed to settings - iTunes store- check for rentals and now its just spinning and i can't watch the rest of the movie.

Backing out of the movie can cause it to be flushed from the system as it is not stored. There seems to be a bug with the check for rentals function, try logging out and back into your account.

  • HT1657 Everytime I try to downlaod a movie I have rented using the option Check for Rentals, nothing happens. Any ideas?

So I rented a movie using iTunes and my AppleTV device. I chose the option Rent and Watch later. I have been charged the rental fee. Yet, whenever I try and download the movie, I choose it on iTunes/Appe TV and am told that I have already rented it and I need to check the download status, via Settings, iTunes account, Check for Downloads.
Everytime I get to the Check for Downloads option, the system gets stuck. The cursor device simply spirals and spirals and spirals.
Any ideas as to what to do?
    Best,
    Benedict

Same error message, I disabled tab mix and made sure I only have the newest version of Java, restarted firefox, now it seems to be fine no error yet on Pogo games or pictures upload to ebay which were the biggest problems besides hanging. I had also had disabled AVG secure search yesterday but that did not solve the issue. Now I will try to add back in AVG search...I have very few adds ons, also the note embedded about re- installing a toolbar went away, my old one did not work with FF4, so I installed Yahoo toolbar but the message still did not go away until I applied this fix. Hopes this helps someone..

Also check your payment details, make sure your details are exactly how they appear on your credit card statement, you might also try changing some of those details, saving them and changing them back again.

  • Apple tv not downloading rental

I rented a movie. The screen went to the authorising screen for about 15 min. So I reset the APTV3 as it would then not connect to itunes. the APTV3 has internet because I can preview other movies. The itunes username and password are correct. Now the rental is not there. If i try and repuchase the movie it says that i have already bought it. So i go to Itunes in the settings and check for rentals. It will either continue to search or tell me there are no rentals. I am wandering if the issue would be on itunes side.

I'm having the same issue...payment went right through and i've been battling this download of the rental for 18 hours now...just endlessly retarts and says "beginning to download" and take 30 minutes, seemingly finishes...and then starts again.  Annoying...

  • Apple TV - i'd like to watch what i paused. The system says i have to go to itunes and 'check for downloads.' The wheel keeps spinning..... the system won't let me rent again.

Question is a bit unclear.  Once you start a rental, you have 24 hours to complete it. I pause mine all the time.  When I hit play again, I get a choice to either resume where I left off or start all over.  I believe it is necessary to have an internet connection while view ATV content, so if you lost the connection, that might make it "spin".
Re your tag line "Can I view my ATV thru my iPad?"  If you have a wifi connection, you can view almost anything with AirPlay.  Or you can view anything from the various ATV selections without having your iPad on.  Of course, you have to pay for some options like HBO, Netflix, etc.
