Apple TV Connecting to iMac

I have the 2009 iMac and curious about Apple tv, will I be able to connect the Apple tv directly to my iMac and watch HD movies, if that is possible what cables would I need to purchase? Thanks.

Since I have been using Apple TV's for some time I would suggest the following. If you don't already have a router, buy one. You can get one at Walmart for around $50. I have a huge movie and music collection in iTunes. All content is on external drives due to the size limitations of internal drives on the Mac and the Apple TV.
I am assuming you are looking to buy or rent HD movies through iTunes? With the router your Mac and AppleTV will then be connected to the internet and each other. That way you can buy or rent movies directly from the AppleTV or your Mac.

If this program doesn't work, open  > About this Mac and tell us the generation of your Mac. AirPlay Mirroring needs a Mid 2011 or newer iMac, so if your iMac is supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion

  • How do i connect my iMac Screen to Apple TV?

I have read i can connect my iMac Screen to my Apple TV via Airplay.
    How do i do that?
    I have Mac OS X Version 10.7.4
I have the OS X Lion ready to download and install, but can't back up my computer (no where to back it up to :/)

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    OSX 10.7.4 is Lion
Lion doesn't support AirPlay of the Macs screen to the Apple TV.

  • Connecting Apple TV Through My iMac

    Hi,
I would like to connect my Apple TV through my iMac rather than directly through my router.  Either wired, WIFI or using Bluetooth?
Is it possible to share the internet connection via my iMac this way?

    Unfortunately not.

  • New Airport Express: iMac loses printer, apple Tv connectivity

I just replaced my netgear router with a Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (late 09).
My set up is as follows:
    iMac 24" wireless to AEBS
Printer and harddrive connected via USB hub to AEBS
Apple TV connected to AEBS (via power extender)
Airport Express connected to AEBS (via power extender)
Slingbox connected to AEBS (via power extender)
I use Airport Utility 5.5 that came with the AEBS.
After a while, I can no longer print to the AEBS connected printer. When I then check my system, I also have lost the Apple TV in iTunes. I no longer see the AEBS in the Airport Utility. Also, the symbol for AEBS in the Finder (under shared) has changed from the AEBS icon to the generic server icon. I can also no longer see the AE in the Airport Utility.
Despite losing all the Apple devices, Time Machine still backs up to the hard drive that is connected to the AEBS, wireless internet still works, and I can still connect to the slingbox (but not to Apple TV).
The only solution is to restart the iMac, or restart the AEBS.
The whole set up worked perfectly with the Netgear (including wireless printing using AE). The only reason I bought the AEBS was to get the back up facility linked to the router, as well as better range.
I must say the experience has been disappointing so far.

Hmm I don't know actually, maybe if that happens by default, because I don't know what that is.
As to the neighbouring networks, I wouldn't think so? No other networks, not even my own primary network, appear in the Wi-Fi list on my MBP. It's in the room just next to the room where the Apple TV and Airport Express are. That room is even further away from my main Access Point on my middle floor than the room where my MBP is.

  • Connecting Apple TV 2 to iMac

Is there any way that i would be able to use my imac an external display for my apple tv 2?? i belive i have the right wires to do it but am unable to navigate settings on the imac to get it to work.
    Hope someone can help
    George

Thanks for the reply and I appologise for not getting back sooner, been away.
It seems that the iMac requires a reboot for any network changes to take effect, at least that is the experience here.
I have a My Book attached to the iMac via usb which is accessable by apple tv and the imac, it is formated in NTFS.  It will not show up on the Macbook air, no matter what username and PW is sign on with.
    Thanks.

  • How to connect my imac to tv

I have an 2010 iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), and I would like to hook it up to my 50" Plasma TV . What cables do I used? And do I hook it up to a splitter or a switch? Beside the HDMI, I also have two other connections on my TV,   RS-232C INPUT  and  RGB INPUT. Which one do I use? I have an adapter, (my daughter didn't used it), it's a Mini DisplayPort / Female VGA Video Cable

Well you must by a mini Display port to HDMI adapter from Apple and connect the HDMI to your tv.

  • How to connect my Imac to my HDTV

I have a 2007 aluminum Imac and a 50 inch 1080p HDTV. is there anyway I could connect my Imac to the tv and control it via wireless mouse and keyboard... The rear connections on the tv are 3 hdmi, 2 component, s-video and AV.. Please let me know what is easiest, fastest, most reliable and produces the best picture.. Thanks so much!
Also I might get the new 13 inch macbook pro, what would I need in order to connect that?

I am not familiar with this new mini-DVI to HDMI cable. Sounds interesting. There is a Mac user reporting an issue in trying to use one of these in the Intel-based iMac display forum. He is using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI to HDMI cable plugged into a HDMI port on his plasma TV and nothing is happening. But he is also reporting the same issue with mini-DVI to VGA adapter and an VGA to VGA cable plugged into the VGA port on his plasma TV. So the problem may not involve this mini-DVI to HDMI adapter.
I use Apple's mini-DVI to DVI adapter connected to a Belkin DVI to HDMI cable plugged into the HDMI port on my LG LCD HDTV with great success with my new Early 2009 Mac mini. The Apple mini-DVI to DVI adapter came with my Mac mini and I bought the Belkin DVI to HDMI cable at the Apple Store when I bought the Mac mini. Both are also available from the Apple Store online for US$19 each.
The MacBook Pro has a mini-DisplayPort. Apple also has a mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter for US$29. So that could also connect with the Belkin DVI to HDMI cable.
I did Google for a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and there are a few 3rd party venders of this adapter as well.

  • How to connect my imac to my tv ?

How do I connect my Imac to my TV ? Is there an easy way, Any body can help? I'm new to the Mac world.
    Thank you in advance

What do you want to achieve? If the goal is to use the TV as an external monitor then get a mini display port to HDMI, DVI or VGA depending on the connections the TV has. You can find each adapter at the Apple Store either online or at a store close to you.

  • How do i connect my iMac to my tv to see movies with wire

how do i connect my iMac to my tv to see movies with wire

    Hey rodskc10,
Thanks for the question! Based on the iMac model and TV you have, you’ll need to pick up a compatible cable. There are a few options that can be found on the Apple Online Store:
Mac Cables - Computer Audio & Video Adapters, Network Cables & More - Apple Store (U.S.)
    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/cables#!
For example, if you have the latest iMac and an HDTV, a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable should do the job (you’ll connect this to the Thunderbolt port, which is backwards compatible with mini DisplayPort).
For additional information, see this article:

  • Can anyone please help me connect my iMac to my TV?

How can i connect my iMac OS X to my sony bavia TV?
Its an iMac OS X version 10.5.8 The TV has an hdmi port but the iMac doesn't have an hdmi port. But the TV & the iMac both have a USB port.

If your iMac has a MiniDisplay port then you need a MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable.

  • Recently I bought a mini DVI to HDMI converter  from eBay for my iMac 21.5 Mid 2011, but only later I realised that it does not have the mini DVI port in that. How can I connect my iMac to a LG smart TV through a HDMI cable?

This is the picture of all the ports from my iMac
This is the mini DVI to HDMI converter which I bought from ebay. And I have the HDMI cable to connect it to my TV
Could anyone please suggest me a solution how I could connect my iMac to the LG smart TV? Also I need to know if this transmits the audio as well to the smart TV?
Suggestions are welcomed. I really appreciate and thank you for your time

I would suggest looking into a Thunderbolt to HDMI connector. In this case, you may be able to use the TV as an external monitor. For this option, please confirm through additional research. I have not tested it personally.
You can also use an Apple TV, which connects with HDMI. In this case, you can use Airplay Mirroring. Not all Macs support Airplay Mirroring, so you need to check first. I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, and it supports Airplay Mirroring. I don't use it often because my TV is in another room, but I just tried it and it worked. It had to change the screen resolution to work well, so I don't know if I would want to use it as my day to day monitor. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404
