Apple TV constantly buffer

Hello,
I'm having a hard time streaming any of my iTunes movies through to my Apple TV (2nd Gen). I've confirmed that both iTunes and Apple TV are updated and reset the wifi a couple of times but still nothing. I can easily stream music but when I try movies it just sitted with the spiral of death. Any suggests are welcome as I'm so frustrated.
Thanks,

Make sure you are accessing the computers icon, if you are under the movies icon then you will be streaming from the cloud.
If having issues with home sharing then there may be an issue with your local network. Reboot ATV and router. If on wifi try Ethernet.
If you intend to stream from the cloud, ensure your connection is adequate by using speedtest.net (HD streaming needs at least 6mbps). Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network)

Why won't videos play on my new iPad 2 14gb? They either constantly buffer, stop and I have to press play again, play sound only etc.

Thanks .Ralph.  The problem is only on the iPad 2only.  I have an iPad 1 as well and it never had the problem.  The only videos that I have tried are you tube and the tutorials on apple.com.  I have absolutely no problem on either of my laptops or desktop PC's.  Only the iPad 2.    I am a new Apple user, so not very familiar yet with the product, but this is an absolute deal breaker for me.  With Apple's reputation I was not expecting any such problems and it is beyond my skill set to solve it.  Very frustrating.  Again, no problem with you tube videos.  I don't watch movies, so am not a Netflix member and haven't tried that yet, only you tube videos and apple.com tutorial videos.  I have to watch those on my laptop.  Again, I found a fix to the you tube problem.  It was a link to a site.  www.youtube/html5.  html5 video player trial that you click on and once done, the videos on the you tube app started working great.  They were doing the same thing as the tutorial videos prior to that.  No such luck with the other web videos, at least the ones that i have tried. Hope this is enough info and understandable. You might check out the html5 site.  I didn't thoroughly understand why, but it worked.  You may understand it better.  I am a proficient user, but far from an I.t. Pro.  I have read Many posts with similar problems, but no simple solutions and the ones I did try didn't work.  Speed tested well.  Channel is set to auto and always different than neighboring networks, usually channel 11.  Tried disabling QOS as suggested....no good.   I am completely stumped.   Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks very much for you time and helpful info.

  • Home Sharing iTunes to Apple TV, Songs Buffer Slowly

    Hello,
I need help I'm stuck in a dead end right now. Whenever I try to play music from my iTunes to my Apple TV (I believe it's the newest one in a small black box) through Home Sharing, the songs tend to buffer for a pretty long time. Even when I play an album, getting the next song to play takes a while to buffer. I know for a fact that it's not my wi-fi signal strength, my internet speed, and connecting the Apple TV through an ethernet cable makes no difference at all. I've also went into my router and changed some configerations as well by turning off firewall and adding Home Sharing as a virtual server, so it will bypass any interference. I'm using a Belkin N600 router by the way.
Also, what I found interesting is that, when I configure my router, enabling IPv6 seems to make playing songs from my iTunes to my Apple TV through Home Sharing extremely fluid and seemless. Yet, the downside seems to be whenever I want to play a song from my iPhone through airplay, the song will be come extremely choppy. When I disable IPv6, playing songs from my iPhone become seemless, yet Home Sharing seems to take forever to buffer the song.
Anyone have any ideas, or have similiar problems?

    Update: I found the problem.
All I had to do is go in my router and put these ports and TCP/UDP into the virtual server list on my Belkin router:
-TCP port 123 is used to communicate with a network time server.
-TCP port 3689 is used to communicate with iTunes while using the iTunes Library Sharing feature.
-UDP port 5353 is used by Apple TV for automatically finding computers with iTunes on your network using Bonjour.
I believe that many people experiencing home sharing problems is due to their router. Especially Belkin routers. It seems to cause conflict with many Apple TV users who want to use Home Sharing when restarting the computer and Apple TV doesn't suffice. The way that the router talks to the computer and talks to Apple TV, the router can't seem to bridge the connects together. For me at least, by opening these ports in my router, everything seems to run fluid and no more laggy, glitchy, or dropped songs playing via home sharing.
    Also: turn off IPV6

  • Apple TV constantly and endlessly restarting sync

My Apple TV is a few months old, and for a while was working fine and as expected. However a week or two ago, I attempted to purchase a season of a tv series from the iTunes store, and I initiated the purchase from the ATV. Knowing that would take a while, I went to work.
When I got home that evening, not only had the purchase not gone through, but all content on my ATV was gone. Back on my mac upstairs, it was attempting a new full sync of the 2500 or so items that need to be synced (including music). It progressed as slow as you would expect a wireless transfer of all that data to go, but it did progress, however it constantly restarts the sync. Sometimes it only gets to the second or third item (always starting with video, so they are big items at the beginning of the queue) and restarts, once it got to about item 13 or 14 (probably representing a 5-10% progress bar completion, as I said, it starts with large files), and then restarts again. It's been syncing almost non - stop (except a reboot to see if it would help) for over a week now, and as I speak...it's back on track one again.
At least this time, the hard drive doesn't show as empty, there is already about 10.5 GB of data on it and about 3.5 GB of photos, so some content clearly got across....so why does it need to copy that content again (it always starts with the same file, so yes, it's repeating).
I am really not sure what to do now

sounds like your network is unstable
test by connecting both devices to the router by ethernet cables
    rather then wifi

  • Apple TV 3 buffer size?

I currently have an HTPC that I want to replace with the ATV3. I rip all my Blu-Ray and DVD disks and encode them in x264 using Handbrake. This keeps my toddler from destroying my media (especially since many of them are Disney movies) and keeps all our movies easily accessable.
Since the ATV3 uses an A5 CPU, that means it is limited to L4.0 of x264, which means my files max bitrate can only be 25mb. I use variable bitrates which I currently have capped at 40mb (as to not exceed the source). I plan to change up my future encodes to limit the max bitrate to 25mb, but when you specify a max bitrate you need a buffer size as well.
So the question becomes, what is the hardware buffer size for the new ATV3? I would assume it is more than 25mb, but I want to be sure before I start doing more encodes so I do not run into playback problems.

  • Apple TV constantly syncing in itunes...

Had my apple TV for about 2 months. Works fine, no issues. I only stream, and don't store or sync any movies or music on the ATV itself.
In the past it would automatically sync whenever I added a movie, even though it wasn't adding it to the ATV itself. And it wouldn't last that long.
Yesterday I consolidated my library to a new drive and it's been constantly syncing ever since. I'm still able to use the ATV, but why is it still syncing?
Keep in mid I have 40,000 mp3's and about 90 movies in my library so it's pretty big. Is it just taking this long to go through the whole new library location? Or is there another reason?

Similar problems here. iTunes is set to sync all tv shows purchased on Apple TV. It does this over and over again with exactly the same material.
I have my iTunes preferences set to an external drive since my file is way too big for the laptop.
As I type this it has just started syncing the entire catalog again, despite there being absolutely no changes since it complete the last sync yesterday.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • HT5622 Why does my apple id constantly have to be changed?  I know i have the correct ID password but a day later when i use it it says "sorry incorrect apple id " password. Then i have to make a bew one.  I have done this at least once a week for the las

When updates show on my phone i use Update All.  Every week or so it doesnt remember my password so I am constantly making a new one?!! Why?

Why on earth would you create a new Apple ID if the password for an existing Apple ID is not recognized?
After you created a new Apple ID, did you download any apps with each newly created Apple ID?
All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection that is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps. For all apps downloaded with Apple ID #1, you must use Apple ID #1 and the password for that Apple ID to download app updates available for those apps. The same for any apps downloaded with Apple ID #2, and #3, etc.

  • 2nd Apple Tv constantly disconnects

Well, the title says it all. My first apple tv worked well except for renting content from iTunes. (362 minute downloads) The rest, netflix, sharing etc all worked. So i bought my second for the bedroom and it constantly needs to be reset.
After each time it goes to sleep it seems to lose homesharing and the connection to iTunes. Bad unit or maybe the tv? It's closer to wireless router and i disconnected my printer that was on that wifi in case of some sort of interference.

check to see if you have other wireless routers in your area on the same channel as yours. I upgraded my Linksys WRT160N to the Apple one and have solved (mostly) all my issues. I had multiple conflicts with other routers using the same channels.

  • Password rejected on apple mail constantly

I've called apple and at&t daily for hours to see if there is a solution. my password is constantly rejected. I put it back in and it's rejected a few minutes later again. Mail won't work until I put it in again. I use an airport extreme N connection to my dsl. Mail works on at&t's web site without a problem. I've reset my password. At&T says its a problem with apple mail, apple says its a at&t problem. My neighbor has exactly the same problem and gets the same circle. I've come to believe that maybe it is a amail problem. Anyone else have the same problem or a fix or should I just wait for a lepard fix, I hope. It even freezes my iphone wireless retrieval during the time I have to retype my password in the box.

I have been having a similar problem on our two Macs (iMac & MacBook) for a couple of weeks. I have at&t Yahoo! DSL and the password rejection problem really seemed to start with regularity when at&t changed their setting to require use of SSL on the specified ports. I have tried lots of things including repairing my Keychain, deleting and re-building my Mail account, and repairing permissions but I may have just stumbled onto a fix.
I think there may be a conflict between Mail's password authentication with the SSL and Keychain. I deleted all Keychains that had anything to do with at&t (POP, SMTP etc) and although it hasn't been very long, the tests I have done indicate the non-remembered password problem may be fixed. In the past when I tried deleting the keychains, I would always choose to have Keychain remember the password if the box would pop up. I think this may have been perpetuating the issue if indeed it is a conflict with Keychain. Don't know if it's a long term fix, but looks promising so far. If anyone else tries this and it works please let us know.

  • Apple Mail Send Buffer

Wouldn't it be nice if Apple Mail had a definable "send buffer" that would let you set a delay time from when you hit send to when the message is actually sent, for when you suddenly realize you forgot to remove certain recipients from the string, or had second thoughts about sending a rude note to your boss, etc. just after clicking that send icon.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Why does my connection to Apple store constantly fail even though I have good internet connectivity to all non-apple apps?

    Hi.
All of a sudden my IOS devices are having difficulty accessing all of my Apple-store controlled apps and purchases when using my home network, even though it is a really fast network and my other devices work perfectly. Spotify, YouTube and Netflix and all apps that don't rely on Apple purchases are working perfectly on my iPad and ipod, and I have fast internet speed and perfect connectivity on all my other devices.
But when I go to Newsstand or iTunes Store for example I get the message 'can't connect to Apple server' or 'you are not connected to wifi' even though all non-Apple apps are connecting perfectly on the same device. I have tried all the usual reboot, reset solutions and nothing seems to resolve this. My software is up to date. My iPod and iPad are working perfectly when I use another network. My home network is working perfectly for everything else.
    Any ideas?

Sorry for bad English and typos, I wrote it quickly.

  • Why does my apple tv constantly stop streaming and become unable to connect to itunes?

I have a 2nd gen Apple TV, which I bought in Dec'10. Lately, as in the last month, it just stops streaming. It will be streaming content, then all of a sudden, it stops, and bar comes up on the bottom of the screen, showing the length of the video, with a spinning icon on the left, where the play/RW/FF icon usually appear. It never recovers. I'll stop the video, and try playing again, but it will say that "netflix" or "iTunes" etc. is currently not available. It's as if it's getting knocked offline. I check my setting, and the ip address is fine, it is not assigning itself an ip address. My internet is working with no issues at all. I'll try doing a network test but it sits there trying to connect to itunes, then it says it's unable to do so.
It's becoming more and more frequent. The only thing that works is resetting it, and sometimes even that doesn't work. So, I have to restore it. I've had to restore a couple times in the past month, and I'm resetting almost daily.
Also, sometimes it just reboots itself for no reason at all. This, too is occuring more and more on a regular basis.
I have the apple tv plugged right into my Time Capsule via ethernet. The hdmi out is going to an input on my surround sound receiver. I've also bypassed the receiver, just to rule it out. I typically get anywhere from 30-40 mbps when I do a speedtest from my macbook on speedtest.net or speakeasy. I'm mentioning this because my connection is more than sufficient to stream the 720p content the apple tv is limited to. My interenet has gone out in the past, but it's rare. It's not the culprit, since someone is always on line when this happens, so we'd know right away if it was the internet going out. It's always the first thing I check when this happens, even though I'm pretty sure my connection is not the issue. Also, I don't start freaking out, the second it happens. I usually don't look into it until a minute or so after the video has frozen. At that point I usually hit MENU, to escape the current screen, then try playing the content again. That's when it can't do anything, and I'm often forced to reset or reboot.
I have tried searching for others with this issue, but haven't come across anything. The closest I've seen are situations where people can't stream at all, due to a network issue. Also, it's been getting worse, which makes me wonder if it's a hardware issue. Again, the apple tv is on a wired connection to my Time Capsule, and the ip address is not self assigned, it starts with DHCP, not 169... And, my internet connection is not the issue.
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry if I repeated myself, I just wanted to make sure I didn't leave anything out.

I had problems with streaming until I changed the WiFi channel that I was using.  The original one conflicted with my neighbor.  After that, MOST of my streaming problems vanished.  Occasionally, a movie would pause for more buffering and I eventually ran an ethernet cable from the Apple TV to my Apple Extreme (to eliminate the Wifi).  I have not had a single problem since then (except to repair the drywall after running the ethernet from one floor to another).  :-)

  • IPhone 5 battery replaced by Apple, now constantly rebooting

    Hello,
Yesterday, my wife and I both had our batteries replaced by Apple as part of the battery replacement program.  Mine is working fine, but my wife's is not.  When we got home, the battery was at 22% (understandable since it had just been replaced with a new one).  I plugged it to charge.  After about 4 hours, I checked it, and it was still at 22%!  I did a hard reset and the phone came back up at 100%, so I figured it was a glitch.  Well, this morning it was still at 100% after not being plugged in since yesterday, so I did another hard reset.  Now, the iPhone will reboot itself every 3-4 minutes.
I have tried restoring the phone as a new device.  (I can't restore a backup since it will reboot before completing).
Strange thing,...it doesn't seem to reboot unless I am using the iPhone, or it is plugged in trying to sync.  If I let it just sit on the table with the screen off, it won't reboot.
I have an appointment at an Apple store tomorrow, but I am afraid since it is out of warranty, they won't help me....even though it was working fine before they replaced the battery (other than the fact the battery died after about 8 hours).
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Check out my solution. This worked for me after having the battery replaced for my iPhone 5 at the Genius Bar. Not sure if it'll fix the 100% issue though. Tried resetting network settings like above. I'll have to see and wait. Just had my battery replaced yesterday.

  • Have to reboot Apple TV constantly

    Hi All,
I have an Apple TV connected via HDMI into a Sony home theater system to a Sony HDTV. Here's the problem I'm having. Let's say I switch the home theater to cable TV and watch a bit of The Office. Then I switch back to Apple TV to listen to music. The ATV is on, but nothing comes through to the home theater or TV. No sound, no picture. But, if I reboot the ATV, it works fine. Is this normal? Having to reboot the ATV whenever I select it through my home theater? It would be much preferable to simply switch to ATV and have it just start up normally.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am having the same problem since I updated to 3.0, and my ATV is connected directly to the HDMI port of the TV.
More problems, after 20 hours my ATV will not awake from standby..............

  • Apple TV Constantly Resyncs w/iTunes

My Apple TV which had been working fine for over two years has started to more and more frequently drop all its content and re-sync with iTunes. Initially, it was doing it on average of once a week, but since the last few updates and the addition of a Time Capsule on my network, it's now deleting all content and re-syncing several times per day.
