Apple TV deactivated PowerBook speakers

Just connected new Apple TV and now my Powerbook's speakers won't work. What gives? Help!

More info: when i try to turn up PB G4 speakers the volume control comes up shaded and has a circle with a slash through it at the bottom. This is very frustrating. I am seriously considering bringing back the apple tv and getting my $$ back, but I don't know if this "side effect" on the laptop will go away. I am not totally tech "green" so I am suprised I can't solve this!

  • Problem: Playing Ipod Through Powerbook Speakers

It's not hi-fi, but on a recent road trip, we tried playing our 60G Ipod thorugh our Powerbook 15" G4.
-Connected with standard 3.5mm cable from Ipod output jack to Powerbook audio line-in port (not headphone port).
-Signal from Ipod is clearly visible on the Input Level indicator on the Sound control app in System Preferences.
-Output level set to Maximum in the Output control, and Mute is off.
-Double checked Audio icon in Menu bar, and Volume slider is up to Full.
Still no audio through Powerbook speakers. Odd.
If anyone has any advice on this, a direct email would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

It seems there is no built-in way to connect your audio input to your audio output. Perhaps Apple were trying to ensure people didn't accidently get feedback from the internal microphone.
Why not try Rogue Amoeba's free LineIn? http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
They describe it LineIn is a simple application for OS X to enable the soft playthru of audio from input devices. In simpler terms, you can use LineIn to play sound coming in through a microphone or any other device plugged in to your Sound In port.

  • Can I listen to music from my Apple TV to self - powered speakers and watch regular tv at the same time? I don't have a central receiver that splits everything, just the apple tv and the speakers.

Trying to play music from my apple tv directly to speakers and at the same time watch tv. Now I'm not that advanced at technology so I kinda need the easiest way to do this. Now I see that the Apple tv has an optical audio output. Can I set that optical out to self powered speakers and then have regular RCA cables set out from the tv to the same speakers and watch the tv on mute, unless I want to turn it up for a moment. I want to be able to airplAy music through my apple tv but also put a game on at the same time if I have guest. I hope my question was clear enough, but that's the best that I can explain it. Oh by the way, I do not have one of those centrAl hub receiver where all the speakers are plugged into and where you can set different inputs and outputs out of it. Everything would be a direct connection.

yes. u dont need the tv. turn it off.
    1. direct connection (optical or stereo cables) to your amplifier
    2. use mac to play to atv, or iphone/ipod touch to remote control the atv. (wifi)
works as a charm, Ive done this for several years..

  • Connect apple tv to computer speakers.

    Hello,
What can I use to connect the apple tv to computer speakers? I know it has digital output but speakers only have 3.5 m jack input.
Is there any cable that will make this possible?

See https://discussions.apple.com/message/18084600#18084600. In other words, the answer appears to be no unless you're willing to live with some serious compromises.

  • Griffin adaptor for old apple pro clear bubble speakers?

what is the griffin adaptor for using old apple pro clear bubble speakers?

It was actually the Griffin iFire that adapted the Apple Pro speakers to newer Macs:

Long discontinued, their price on the used market is usually well in excess of the cost of a really nice, current set of external speakers.

  • Apple Power Mac G4 speakers - connecting to Airport Express?

    Hi.
Is it possible to connect the old Apple Power Mac G4 speakers (ie. those displayed at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300153379805&fromMakeTrack= true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:middle:uk) to my Airport Express?
That is, do the two devices have compatible jack and jack socket?
    Thanks

Simply converting the mechanical connection isn't enough.
There used to be a device called an iFire which allowed you to use those speakers with any computer that had FireWire. That device has been discontinued for a very long time. Anyway it wouldn't allow you to connect the speakers to an AX.
You need powered speakers to use with the AX.

  • Apple TV and Laptop Speakers

    Good afternoon
I have no problems running Apple TV airplay from my iphone (IOS 7.04) or my Macbook Air (Mavericks 10.9).  Everything works as expected except sometimes after I shutdown Apple TV my MBA speakers don't work and I have to reboot.
    Any insights appreciated.

Duh... yes that works by using the iTunes airplay button versus the main screen bar Airplay icon.
    Many thanks

  • How to connect apple tv to normal speakers with 3.5mm jack?

I have recently brought apple tv, it works great with my tv. But I have optoma HD200x projector which, I think, don't have audio out. I understand that I need optical audio cable to connect it to speakers but I have JBL radial speakers with 3.5mm jack. Which cable is required as no optical audio port on jbl dock.
    Thanks

You need to connect optical to a DAC that can output analogue stereo (serach for monoprice here) or have an amp/speaker that acepts optical.
Assuming you'll hook up HDMI to the Optoma it's worth considering whether or not thsi convertes HDMI audio and has an analogue 3.5mm or RCA jack out (or headphones socket) - that might work but would entail an extra lead from the projector.

  • How do I connect Apple TV to external speakers and my TV?

I just bought an Apple TV for my studio apartment and have it connected to my TV via HDMI, and use AirPlay to stream my music and videos. Video works great, but the my TV's internal speakers are low quality. So, I would like to have my audio come from external speakers (which I have not bought yet), for the following 2 scenarios:
Listening to music via AirPlay, preferably without having to turn my TV on.
Watching videos on my TV, with the audio coming through my external speakers rather than the TV speakers
I see my Apple TV has an Optical Audio (Toslink) port, but the salesperson at the nearby electronics store said none of their speakers have Toslink cables, only 3.5 mm (or USB). The only solution I found is an AV receiver box that has optical input but costs hundreds of dollars. I am looking for something cheaper and am willing to settle for "pretty good" sound quality.
Is there another way to get this to work?
This article recommends using a digital audio converter (DAC) to connect the Apple TV to a stereo amplifier. This seems like it would satisfy scenarios (1) and (2) above.
Also, I found this "Toslink to 3.5 mm adapter" for a few bucks; could I just plug that into my Apple TV and then connect it to any speakers (like computer speakers) with 3.5mm input?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Rex,
Since the toslink is optical, the 3.5mm adapter will not work for you as it is only ment as a conversion to a mini-toslink cable. Your first option of using the DAC, is in my opinion the best and perhaps only way to get audio out without going to a fancy amp or tuner first.
One option that I'm considering is the Bose Solo TV sound system. It might set you back about 4-Grant's, but I generally enjoy the sound of bose for most music/tv/movie purposes; and it has a direct optical audio input that you can run either from your tv or your ATV. Whatever audio you're sending to your TV via the HDMI, should go to these speakers through your HDTV's toslink output with equal digital clarity.
I've read a few other posts on the apple discussion forum which lead me to believe that the optical output of the ATV might not work so well after the 5.2 update... so whatever I do, it won't be JUST for use with the ATV.

  • HT5517 How can I adjust sound level when streaming radio from my Apple TV through Airplay speakers?

I have a 2nd Gen Apple TV with an airport express set up as airplay speakers.  I can stream the new radio through using the Airplay speakers pretty well.  The problem is that once I've got it going, I cannot adjust the sound level without laboriously backing out of the radio menu, going back to the top level menu then drilling down into the Airplay settings to raise or lower the speaker's sound level.
Is there an easier way to do this?

go to system preferences > Sound > Output. then change the output from "built-in" to HDMI.

  • Connecting Apple TV to Bluetooth speakers

Loving Apple TV; but my TV built in speakers are poor. Currently I've plugged in some external speakers; but I'd like to connect my Bluetooth enabled Creative externals to the Apple TV; but Bluetooth in settings can't seem to find anyting. Creative just doesn't show up in spite of pushing its button to get the light flashing.
    Any fix?
    Thanks

    Bluetooth speakers are not supported.
Send feedback - I could imagine Bluetooth headphones might be good to support to:

  • Apple TV and multiple speakers on Airport express

    Hi,
I'm using Apple TV3 and 10.8.3 Mac with Itunes 11 and would like the flim audio to play on multiple (3) airport express' with speakers attached around the room all on same Wifi.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks

As my english isn't too good I made a screenshot to show you what I mean.
As you can see in the image below iTunes only shows me the computer speakers and the AirPort Express. But at the bottom you can see that iTunes actually recognized 3 different speaker (Mac, AirPort, Apple TV 2). Why does the Apple TV not show up in the multiple speakers window? Any ideas?

  • Non-Apple Product for Powerbook G4 12"

I often do chatting online with friends, so i wish to have a webcam, can I use NON-Apple webcam for my powerbook G4 12" 1GHz Combo Drive?
Mine is a Combo drive, I wish to upgrape it to DVD burner, again! Any NON-Apple DVD burner(internal/external) for my notebook?
Please recommend one or two to me, i will feel very grateful! Thanks in advance!

personally dont recommend it. Non apple batteries in my experience are more prone to overheating. Ebay is the best source for these... but again you may be able to find an apple battery there too.
I got a brand new one for around $50 off ebay.
    best of luck!

  • Apple LED on Powerbook darker than on Macbook Pro?

Ttitle says it all.. I have a PB G4 DLSD 1.67 and I noticed the big Apple on the back of the screen is much dimmer than on the Macbook Pros. Is there a way to brighten up the Apple LED on the back, or is this how the PowerBooks shipped, with a much darker and dim APPLE LED?

First, you're getting LCD and LED mixed up. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) generates the image, and then something must provide backlighting to make the image visible
The Powerbook is dimmer because it uses TFT backlighting, a form of cold fluorescent lighting which cannot produce the brightness of light-emitting diode (LED) backlighting, which is what's used on the MBP's LCD display.
The brightness difference is purely the method of backlighting. The newer MBP gets the more modern an energy-efficient LED systemt o backlight its LCD.
