Apple TV dead, isthis general or local?

Today, enetring into the various choices, Apple TV was "unable to connect" with either HBO Go or Netflix. Tried to turn off and on, no change, disconnected electrical cable and restarted it is still not working. I see that several people are having problems today. Is this generalized? What to try next? Thanx

No issue on my system. Make sure location is set correctly. Make sure router is up to date. Ensure you are using ISPs DNS (settings - general - network - DNS should be set to automatic)

Current Firefox versions remember the download directory based upon the URL, so if the URL changes then the default folder may be chosen if there hasn't been selected a download folder before for that server.
You can disable this feature to remember the download directory via the Boolean pref browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite on the about:config page.
The browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite pref doesn't exist by default (it is a hidden pref), so you need to create it.
Create a new Boolean pref with the name browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite and set the value to false.

I found some steps to help resolve the "Activation: failed" error messsage you are getting on your Apple TV:
Restart your base station or router. Sometimes this is done by turning the router off for a few seconds, and then on again, but check the documentation provided by the manufacturer.
To restart your Apple TV, press and hold Menu and Menu down/scroll ( - ) for about 6 seconds and then choose Restart from the menu.
If the issue continues after restarting, reset your router or base station and Apple TV to factory settings
Reset your base station or router. Use the documentation provided by the manufacturer to reset to factory settings.
To reset your Apple TV perform a factory restore.

How can I make general.useragent.locale variable

In our domain we have different user languages. Windows adapts it's gui depending on the username they login with.
We have configured Firefox settings through GPO's and build a pakcage with the FF GPO add-in included, with also the 5 different language packs included we use in our domain.
We can switch manually the GUI language, but we are looking for a way to automate this, depending on the profile language.
I know we can change the user.js file, but I was wondering if there is a way to automate this through GPO's.
Something like a variable we can place in the general.useragent.locale that looks for the sytem language? Or another way to automate this?

You should be able to do this via a mozilla.cfg autoconfig file.
This file is run as JavaScript with full chrome privileges and can contain more advanced code, so you should be able to check the system language and set general.useragent.locale accordingly.

I don't know how to get the system language setting, but you should be able to read registry keys and environment variables if necessary.

I think we here, in Kazakhstan, could have done much helping Apple to add Kazakh keyboard.
THere are about 10mln Kazakhs and we are unable to use our keyboard.

Kazakhstan is not a colony any longer and we would like to have the local names to be reflected on Apple Maps.

One thing I'm fairly certain of is that Apple will choose to repair the unit instead of replacing it. Since you wisely purchased AppleCare, they should repair it if you're in your 3-year warranty (and, obviously, you are).

Apple TV Dead After Power Surge

I believe we had a power surge over the weekend since there were some major storms. We were not here, but we know the power went off because we had to reset our clocks. When we tried to use our Apple TV, it would not come on. The LED would not light and we saw nothing on the TV screen. The Apple TV was plugged into a surge protector.
We have tried resetting the power, and we have tried connecting it to iTunes, but it does not show up. Does anyone know what we can do to fix it?

Did you follow the steps exactly, when trying to restore? Disconnect all cables, connect micro usb, if using a 3rd gen reconnect power.

Make sure to connect directly to computer, not a keyboard port or USB hub. Try a different cable.

Can a backup with Timemachine be used to restore a new HD, which unfortunately is already formatted and has content? The backup was from a 500GB disk, the new disk has 320GB. However, the 500GB disk was not full and was less than 320GB.

A more generic question and some background:
About 3 years ago I purchased my first MacBook Pro to allow me to enter the multi media work area. Two years after the purchase the MacBook encountered a problem with the video chip, which requires the replacement of the motherboard. This happened when I lived in the middle of Africa and at a time when I had to complete a movie project. I went to South Africa to buy a new MacBook Pro last February as this was the "cheapest" option. The new MacBook broke down in July - only 5 months after purchase with a known and well documented issue whereby the computer does not start up, but shows a "permit" sign instead. I have moved from Rwanda to Senegal and found an authorised, licensed Apple store. After 10 long and painful weeks the shop finally was able to confirm the obvious and also to provide me with a temporary replacement disk. They were instructed to only physically install the disk, so that everything else can be done via the time machine. However, they ignored the instructions and provided a disk, that leaves me with mostly corrupted applications and documents. Trying to restore them one by one does not result in success and I am extremely frustrated. Obviously the licensed store does not have the capacity and it seems that the MacBook Pro in general is not as stable as one would wish. Any comments - any advise - any help?

How much less than 320GB?
Generally speaking you don't want the hard drive to get more than 85% full (an arbitrary number that has worked for most people). Time machine stores its data in folders fairly free hand based on time stored, but a mixed recovery may or may not work depending on how different the types of data are together. What kind of data are you wishing to restore?
Obviously the licensed store does not have the capacity and it seems that the MacBook Pro in general is not as stable as one would wish. Any comments - any advise - any help?
AppleCare may be your best remediation in this case. Buying it anytime the machine is under a year old gives you unlimited hardware and software support for Apple's own product, though data restore of non-Apple applications is probably not within that coverage. I can't say for certain about that, although AppleCare is known to do data recovery at a fee.

Flashing Apple Logo / Dead Battery

My ipod's battery seems to be completely dead.
When I plug it into any device to power it (speaker stand or computer), the screen flashes between the apple logo (which looks a little odd, with lines missing through the picture) and being off. It just keeps doing it. The computer does not see it, and the ipod does not seem to be holding a charge.
I cannot seem to get it into disk mode either. I will hold "menu/select" and the ipod logo will stay on the screen for about a second, then it resets the ipod again. I have tried quickly switching to "play/select" to get it into disk mode but the result is the same - it just restarts and continues to flash between the apple logo and off.
I think it may need to go to service but I thought I would try my luck on the forums before losing all my music (which of course, mostly, isn't backed up at all)

Hey I was just wondering if you had this problem remedied because I am now faced with this exact situation. The ipod can play when hooked to an iHome, but the battery is definitely dead, and plugging it in results in the computer not recognizing it, while it doesnt charge. Holding menu and select does that same thing too, with the logo holding on the screen until i let the buttons go.

What happened to my rentals menu item on the apple TV. It is faster to download a movie and watch it on my AppleTV than directly from Apple and my password generally fails on apple TV. I want that menu item back please.

Last night I was surprised that the latest update of my Apple TV software excluded rentals from my PC. I have two movies in queue and want to watch them on the Big Screen but cannot find the RENTALS section of the Owner's Library menu. No warning just gone? Not what I expected from you guys. Please advise me as to how I might get that item back.

OK, Problem solved. Software on Apple TV was VERY outdated. It had been sitting in the box for over a year and needed an update. Problem solved!

Given that both machines are similar to a Gigabit ethernet G4, you can setup a gigabit ethernet network between both machines, and setup file sharing for the drive on one of the machines.

Note a small network may not necessarily allow you to mount applications over the network if the license for certain software is for one machine only, or save files remotely from third party applications. Use the Finder to transfer files between computers. Any external hard drive connected to a computer, essentially is part of the computer it is hooked up to as far as the network is concerned. This may mean clearing files off the computer that does not have the external hard drive first, to use as a temporary storage space before transferring with the Finder. Not all applications support network saving of documents.
