Apple TV & Denon

I have a Denon AVR 888 receiver. The receiver has 2 zones. Currently, I have my apple tv connected to the receiver via HDMI for video and Optical for sound. It plays and works great with my indoor speakers, however, I can get my Apple TV to play audio on my outdoor "zone 2" speakers.
I have been told that this particular receiver can't provide zone 2 sound unless it uses an analog connection (i.e. old red/white cables).
I'm hoping that someone has come up with a way to work around this problem. Otherwise I have to either buy a sonons/logitech or some other internet music device that has the analog connections so I can stream internet music outside.
Any suggestions would be VERY much appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance!!

i ve a question. I want to connect my apple tv 2 with a denon avr 1611. And than i want to play music with the remote app without a tv. Means i want play music with the apple tv without that the tv is switched on. Can it be possible?
The answer depends on how you're getting the audio to the receiver.
If you're using HDMI, you're subject to various HDMI issues, and the ATV can be problematic with some Denon receivers as can be determined from reading this forum. FWIW, I have an AVR-789, and the ATV definitely works over HDMI with no TV connected to the receiver. (I use my ATV solely as an Airplay audio bridge to my receiver; I don't hook the ATV up to a TV except to configure it.)
If you're using optical, it was possible to use the ATV with no TV or the TV turned off from the introduction of the ATV 2 until the 4.4 update was released in Oct 2011. Apple broke the functionality in 4.4 but fixed it in 4.4.3:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4448
They were a tremendous number of messages posted here complaining about this bug between 4.4 and 4.4.3, but they have subsided, so I guess it is fixed. I restored the 4.3 firmware to solve this and another 4.4 problem, the Airplay 2-step bug. The latter remains unfixed and requires one to switch back and forth between Airplay targets to make the ATV play audio. If you don't get mad enough to start pushing buttons, you could wrongly conclude the audio is still broken.
And yes, you can use the remote app to stream iTunes content on your computer to the ATV. You can also stream content from the iPhone or whatever to the ATV.

  • Apple TV--- Denon AVR-4306

I am trying to hook up my Apple TV to my Denon AVR-4306 Receiver and have not been able to get any audio or visual on my Pioneer Plasma TV. I hooked the Apple TV up via HDMI to the HDMI input # 3 and I assigned Input VCR-2 to HDMI input 3. When I go to VCR-2 input I have no audio or visual. Can someone please help me out with your suggestions. I am pretty new at this so I really appreciate any assistance.

bump. This is pretty frustrating. I just bought it but I can't team it up with my speakers and check it out in my plasma display. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you!

  • Is this an Apple Problem or a Denon Problem?

I use the most recent Mac Mini as a media center in my living room. Using a DVI to HDMI adapter the Mac Mini video feeds into my Denon AVR-4306 Receiver. The audio is pumped out of the standard headphone jack. At the end of each viewing session, the TV and receiver are powered off, but the Mac Mini stays on.
Prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard this setup worked great - but after the upgrade, I'm now having a video display issue and I'm not sure if I should call Apple or Denon to help resolve this.
I set Snow Leopard to use the 1080p resolution setting. I've confirmed that both my reciever and my TV are indeed 1080p and upon first boot things work perfect. The problem starts when I turn off the TV and Receiver. What happens is, after the TV and Receiver are turned off, the Mac Mini is reverting to the 720P display setting. The next time the TV and receiver are turned on, I'm looking at a 720P display setting.
I don't understand why it's flipping to this lower resolution and am wondering if anyone has a fix that will prevent this from happening?
I have found two workarounds - neither are any good. The first is after turning back on the TV and receiver, using the keyboard shortcut to log out. Logging out triggers the display check and it reverts back to the 1080p setting. A reboot also fixes this issue.
Secondly, is this an Apple problem or a Denon Receiver problem?

After much discussion back and forth between Apple and Denon, it was discovered that the Denon receiver does not support 1080p - only 1080i - this was not the information I orginally received from Denon.
Setting the Apple to use 1080i for the resolution, then configuring the Denon Receiver to use HDMI pass through for the HDMI output resolved this problem.

  • Denon 791 Receiver and Apple Tv

I have a Denon 791 Receiver and Apple Tv. Which source do i connect the apple Tv to? thanks

I also have an AVR-2113 and am experiencing this issue with Apple TV 3G. I have to switch everything off for up to a minute, sometimes disconnect the HDMI cable and then switch it all back on again. I haven't worked out which order I need to turn stuff on in. Sometimes it takes me about 5 attempts before the things works.
    It usually goes like this:
    * Turn everything on
    * Apple logo appears
    * Apple logo disappears, I receive a warning from the TV that there is no HDMI signal
    * pull out the HDMI cable from the Apple TV
    * DENON logo appears on the screen
    * plug it back in
    * No HDMI signal warning message reappears
This sounds like some HDMI handshaking issue between the Apple TV and the Denon receiver. Is this Apple's fault, Denon's, or a mixture of the two?

  • Is this an Apple joke on PC users?

I just learned that iTunes doesn't delete files if the folder is located outside of the iTunes folder (which happened because I used Creative before I bought an iPod). Meaning, I have of thousands (literally) of files sitting on my computer that are not being used, but will not know which ones they are without a file by file comparison.
So this is what I did:
    1) Cut and pasted folder from one location into iTunes folder.
    2) Went to "add folder" menu and chose iTunes folder.
    3) Watched as appx. 5 gig of music turned into less than 2.5 gig.
After looking to see what the problem is, it appears that iTunes renames compilations based on artist and not album. No problem. But why then does iTunes not read the directory tree it just created? It appears that it only goes through one sub-folder.
    For example:
An opera CD (La Traviata) list artist not as Verdi, but as the vocalist (or choir) that is singing. I look in the iTunes folder to see there is a folder named Luciano Pavrotti with a sub folder of Aida. But this chart is NO WHERE to be found in the iTunes library listing. I had to add this subfolder seperately. Again no problem, but there is TWO POINT FIVE GIG that would need this done, and no way to know what files are not added unless I compare the library listing, file by file, with a listing of files on the computer. Or, go through and add every single folder individually. Which would not be bad, except iTunes doesn't allow the for the selection of more than one folder to add at a time (i.e. pressing and holding <Ctrl>). Causing one to click:
<File><Add Folder>, expand iTunes Folder, scroll down, highlight folder to add, and finally click <OK>. Now repeat a few thousand times.
I feel there is little I can do, there really isn't even a question in this post. I just want to say that if this is the engineering on Apple software for something so simple as folder management, it is no wonder that PCs outsell Apple computers by a margin of 90 to 1. All because Apple wants one to use iTunes and Quicktime for default media players. Forcing customers to load music and video through these programs to gain any hope of competent folder management.

  • Airplay in itunes not showing up

    Hi,
I have a Denon 1912 AV receiver with airplay functionality, it is wired to my main router with the network features enabled, such that i can play files from my iphone 4. How ever i have not airplay icon on my itunes on windows 7. i have tired setting up a different windows account but still no success.
I have seen many post all with the same problem and there is no definite solution. so my question is; is there a fix coming up i have chosen this receiver not the onkyo specifically for the airplay functionality.

I found what my problem was. My firewall (but it could be a router) was blocking port 5353 UDP bidirectional communication. just open that port.
Apple and Denon's documentation is horrible it took me ages to find what the problem was.
I was never a apple fan, but this made me hate them even more.
if all your apple devices are not showing the icon i means it is not a problem of port blocking my a firewall as was my case. i could probablly is the router.
ps did you turn on network stanby on the denon?

  • How to connect Apple TV 3 to denon 1910

Having trouble need to know how to set up Apple TV through denon1910 receiver.

If your Denon receiver does not have an optical audio input, I believe that leaves you with two options. You can purchase an optical audio to RCA audio converter, then connect that to your receiver. Or you can take the HDMI output from AppleTV to an HDMI to Component Video/Audio Converter, send the component video to your TV and the audio to your receiver. The latter will probably degrade your video signal and result a poorer image.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to hook up a apple Macbook Pro to a Denon AVR-X2000 receiver?

I Hooked my Macbook Pro to my receiver and got a picture on my flat screen but no sound came out of the speakers. The sound only came out of the specker from the laptop. Can anyone tell me if I have to turn something off on the laptop or do I need a specail cable?

Thanks to Phone support from Apple I was able to try a few things to make this work. You hook up your HDMI cabe to your receiver and make sure you have your receiver on the right channel. You also have to have a HDMI cable going from your receiver to your TV, You should get a picture if you have your TV on the right input channel. For the sound to come out of the receivers speakers you have to go to your laptop and click on system preferences,, then click on sound, then Output and in there you will see your receivers name ( Mine being Denon) click on it and the sound should work through your receiver speakers. Don't forget to change it back when you are done.

  • Apple TV 2/ Denon AVR 2311CI zone 2 issues

I have an original Apple TV hooked up to my Denon AVR 2311CI ss receiver. I needed to hook the red and white RCA cables to pass an analog signal to get the audio to pass through to zone 2. The next gen Apple TV has no RCA jacks, just digital optical. That does not pass the audio to zone 2. Has anyone tried this and got zomne 2 audio to work with the newer Apple TVs??

I am also having this issue (picture - but no sound) - but with an Onkyo AV Receiver (TX-SR674).  And unfortunately, my TV doesn't have HDMI - just DVI - so I can't pass the AppleTV through my TV to get the audio to the AV receiver - or even get the audio from the TV's speakers.  So unless I can firgure this out, I either have to return the Apple TV, or buy a new TV and/or receiver.  As much fun as that sounds, I don't really have the spare coin to make it happen.  I've tried every possible setting on the Onkyo (which I use with a DirecTV receiver and a Sony Blu-ray player just fine - using HDMI) - but no luck.  The only way I've seen it work is using my Dell computer Monitor (which has HDMI in and analog audio out).  So it doesn't appear to be a defective Apple TV.  Oh - and I can't get any digital audio out of the Apple TV either. I tried two different AV receivers that have optical tos-link inputs.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Cheers (and Happy New Year).

  • Apple TV and Denon AVR-2800

I am a total novice at setting up electronics. I think I know the answer but want to be sure...my Denon receiver is circa 1999 and has no HDMI inputs, just an optical digital audio port. This means Apple TV can't be setip to this receiver, correct?

    Yvonne,
For about $35 bucks you could try this device here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002WBOQPU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wwwallab ouc00-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002WBOQPU
It converts an HDMI to Component so you would plug your AppleTV into this device and then the device into your projection TV
By Apple policy I need to let you know that if you visit that link we might benefit or even profit from it. This is an affordable solution versus buying a new TV and you can enjoy all the cool stuff of Apple TV

  • HT204291 I have my apple TV plugged into my Denon receiver.  My receiver is setup with 3 speaker channels, one center, one left front and one right front.  When I listen to music via Airplay, sound comes only from the center channel and right, nothing on

I have my apple TV plugged into my Denon receiver.  My receiver is setup with 3 speaker channels, one center, one left front and one right front.  When I listen to music via Airplay, sound comes only from the center channel and right, nothing on the left.  When I watch Cable Television (not using the Apple TV), all 3 channels work fine so I know that the speaker connections are fine.

I had problems with streaming until I changed the WiFi channel that I was using.  The original one conflicted with my neighbor.  After that, MOST of my streaming problems vanished.  Occasionally, a movie would pause for more buffering and I eventually ran an ethernet cable from the Apple TV to my Apple Extreme (to eliminate the Wifi).  I have not had a single problem since then (except to repair the drywall after running the ethernet from one floor to another).  :-)

  • Apple TV to Denon AVR-887

I have a  Denon AVR  887  and I would like to figure out how I can use the ATV.   The Panasonic TV Monitor is a  great distance from the AVR so the Video is from Component  Connections.   Audio is from sperate speakers mounted around the Panasonic TV.  The AVR will not convert the HDMI from the ATV  to the component output.
Is there a conversion cable or box that can take the HDMI from the ATV  to a componet output for the AVR?
Will I also need the Optical digital audio output cable to get the audio into the system?

  • Denon AVR 591 stereo output instead of 5.1 from new apple tv(3rd gen)

I have a setup such as:
    aTV 3rd gen -> HDMI -> Denon AVR591 -> HDMI -> Sony KDL 40V5100
my speaker setup is a 3.1, 2 fronts, center and sub
i'm having trouble getting a 5.1 output when i'm streaming music from my imac through home sharing, and also netflix.
i do not have an extra optical port(used by my xbox) to bypass this issue, so i'm wondering if this is a known problem, or something wrong with my setup.
my PS3 run just fine in 5.1(multi ch.) when it streams the correct format through a single HDMI cable.
this is a brand new apple tv that i just got today from the mail, and hoping someone can shed some light in my problem.
    Thanks in advance!

I was only able to get 5.1 via optical, DTS was fine via HDMI.
