Apple TV does not recognize itunes

Hi, I recently bought Apple TV 2012 Full HD. The network is functioning properly and the Apple TV recognizes the network (I can download movies, youtube, etc on the Apple TV). Problem is, it wont load the itunes library from my Mac. It furthermore won't allow home sharing and/or airplay.
The following I have tried:
1. Updated Mac software
2. Updated Apple TV Software
3. Updated the firmware of my modem / router
4. Updated Itunes to latest version
5. Checked the firewall settings of Mac - no firewall in place
6. Restarted all the devices and reset it several times.
7. Put Home sharing on/off on both itunes / Apple TV and then restarted the process.
What happens is, on very odd occasions it recognizes the itunes library but then drops it again. Network still operating fine. Same thing happens with Home sharing. Airplay also does not show.
Can anybody help me please? Would appreciate it a lot.

Hi Charl100,
It sounds like you have been on the right track in troubleshooting this issue. If you are still having issues with Home Sharing on your Apple TV, you may want to go over the steps outlined in the following article:

Apple TV does not recognize my Apple account username (email) and password, but iTunes, my iPad and iPhone does.  I have rest my password three times, same results.
ATV says my computer is not authorized, but i-Tunes says it is.
I have i-Tunes open on my computer and have entered i-Tunes store, ATV says it can't access the store.  Both on the same network!
I am so frustrated with this system!  All these problems with Apple TV are not the end but the beginning.
In i-Tunes, songs are lost when they have not been moved. I lose whole albums I have ripped from CDs to iTunes
An audiobook book in two files are in the library but only one file is recognized by iTunes when I try to play it or transfer it to my iPhone

I Am having the same issue. Ie on the password issue.
I Am using a Macpro though.
i Have had no issues with the setup until recently.
However I think the hard drive is starting to fail as it keeps on losing the wireless connection and gas been stuttering a lot on playback.

  • Apple tv does not recognize my new icloud id

I had to change my icloud ID and password. Apple TV does not recognize the new icloud ID/password after signing out and signing back in, I rebooted/reset, still nothing. I reopened home sharing too.

After much trial and error, I solved this. I logged out of icloud on my MAC, and since I had already signed out of icloud on the apple TV, the apple TV finally accepted my new icloud id and password. Apple tv also wanted me to input my password via the TV and NOT the remote. So.....apple ain't lyin' when it says to sign out of all your accts on ALL devices before changing any apple IDs or passwords. Let this be a warning to anyone in the future so to save you much time and frustration

  • HT4352 I have home sharing turned on on my computer but the Apple TV does not recognize it even though the same Appleid and password is used. Does anyone have this issue and, if so, how did you resolve it?

Issue with Apple TV not recognizing the home sharing option in itunes. Calls for paswrod but even when added it still does not recognize it. iTunes indicates that the home sharing optionis on but this is apparently not seen by Appletv. How can this be resolved?

Hi Augstiner57, I have the same problem.  Did you figure it out?  Mine seems to have happened after I updated Apple TV. Now it doesn't recognize my Home Sharing even though on my MacBook is it turned on.
I am running an old OS  though (Leopard) so  I am wondering if I need to upgrade.

  • ITunes store does not recognize iTunes on my computer

I installed iTunes on my conmputer - even reinstalled it by following online Apple instructions to the letter regarding uninstalling ALL Apple software, etc. - whenever I visit the iTunes store and make a selection to purchase, the page I get taken to always reads something like "in order to download your selection, you must have iTunes installed on your computer." I always get this without fail... I got it before I reinstalled and after. The site does not recognize my iTunes software that I have installed. I have consulted with various Apple support people and I get the runaround all the time and never a direct answer... most of the time, they don't even respond.

Ok thanks for the help, i managed to do all that, included another port (443) which was mentioned in another article, to no avail. Same problem.
I did all sorts of tests and i am firmly convinced it's got something to do with the router, but your solution didn't work.
The router is the same i used before.
I also use a range extender, same as i used before (linksys RE1000).
The problem had occurred before, but it went away on its own. Now it has been happening for a week with no relief.
It started when i bought  a new computer. I de-linked the ATV library and re-linked to the new machine. I sold the old machine, so i still have only one.
Well, the syncing is super slow over my wireless network. So i thought i'd put the ATV linked by ethernet cable diretly to the router. Instead of making it sync faster, it simply froze (amber light steadily on).
I thought i'd lost the hardware.
I then unplugged the ethernet cable and went back to the old set up. Got iTunes on the computer to see the ATV andgot it to sync, which took forever (like 3 days straight).
After this painful sync, i could not connect to apple store from the ATV, and hence can't play anything because it is there but 'not authorized'.
I then factory-reset the ATV, and had to do the syncing all over again: no result.
Tried all the other solutions (deauthorize, reauthorise, reboot, reset, change pwd, etc, nothing works).
Tried you rport forwarding, didnt work. Maybe the range extender makes it not work?
I also use dynamic IPs, so could that be a problem?
I am at my wits' end and i know only one thing: APPLE *****. I will NEVER AGAIN buy anything from this company. Anyone knows if there is any other hardware that would work like an apple TV? I have a lot of unwatched, expensive shows...

  • ITunesU does not recognize iTunes

When I try to go to iTunesU, it goes to the "download iTunes 8" page. But I already have iTunes 8 on the computer. Why doesn't it recognize it?
Could this be an Adobe Flash issue? I'm having problems with that, too.

I set the location in preferences to D:/itunes but this did not seem to do anything.
This does not tell iTunes where the iTunes library is.
it simply tells iTunes to use this folder for any new items added to iTunes.
    Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder you copied to the external.

  • Apple TV does not find Itunes library (since Yosemite). Itunes finds apple tv without a problem.

Since Yosemite, my apple tv 3 (latest software) does not find my itunes library anymore (imac 27" late 2013). Vice versa, via Itunes (latest version) I can perfectly stream music and videos to my apple TV. So there is communication between the two devices, but for some reason Apple TV does not find my itunes library. Sometimes rebooting all my devices works.
    any solutions for this problem?

I solved this problem in this way:
    go to Preferences -- Sharing
change the name of your mac (delete ALL the existing name and choose another one)
    close Preferences
    restart Mac
    open itunes
now check if everything works on apple tv.

  • Apple TV does not mirror iTunes films, but audio yes.

I bought a new iMac last week. I can mirror my screen to Apple TV, that works fine. The issue starts when I press the play button in iTunes to start the movie, then the movie does not show on my apple tv, neither on my iMac....I get a grey screen on both iMac and apple tv but the sound does work. I updated all software.
If I disconnect Apple TV, it does show the movie on my iMac.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Personally I'd be inclined just to use basic AirPlay from iTunes on the Mac. But if you want to persist troubleshooting AirPlay mirroring...
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
        1.    Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
        2.    Check that both devices are on the same network (System Preferences > Network, on the Mac and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
        3.    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
        4.    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
        5.    Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
        6.    Restart your computer.
If you are still having problems, try turning off bluetooth if it's enabled, also try using 802.11n for wifi if you are currently using either 802.11b or 802.11g.

  • ITunes does not recognize iTunes Music and Library

The iTunes on my flat panel imac does not pick up the music and playlists from iTunes Music and Library. The music is 9.54 gb, the library 1.6 mb, both the same as on my other computer, which displays the playlists properly. I've repaired permissions but have not trashed my iTunes preferences. Any thoughts? Thanks, Dave

I have resolved the problem myself. I ended up having to completely restore my iPhone to factory settings. Then I backed it up with my iTunes library. I also had to do some file organizing because many of the songs I had were copied in multiple places (this was not the cause of the original problem, for the record). After manually deleting all of the music on my iPhone library, I synced it with the computer and simply downloading the new version of my library. The process was kind of confused and unorganized (because I had to figure it out myself), but I'd thought I'd just say that I resolved the problem, and how I resolved it, for posterity and for the benefit of others with similar problems.

  • Apple TV does not recognize my Apple ID and password. How do I authorize new apple tv?

Just purchased Apple TV and trying to use it. It will not recognize my Apple ID or Password. Do I need to authorize the Apple TV and how do I do that?

    Hi goskii77,
If you are having issues setting up your new Apple TV with your Apple ID, you may want to double check that the info is current and correct by logging into "Manage my Apple ID" as outlined on this page:
Apple ID: Changing your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5621
If everything is confirmed as correct and working but your Apple TV still won't accept your Apple ID, you may want to try restoring it to factory settings:

  • Apple TV does not recognize ID and password. Keeps saying its wrong audits not

I did an update of Apple TV and restored my settings. When going through set up it comes to the Home Sharing screen. When I go to Home. sharing set up it asks for Apple ID. And password. I keep putting them in and it keeps saying they're wrong. I have verified the ID and password accuracy multiple times. I have my MacBook, iPhone 4S and iPad sitting here as well and home sharing is on with ll of them.  Stamped

Apple TV has a software bug.
Apple TV asks for your mac ID but in reality it wants your registered email address (not a .mac email but your alternate email address you used when setting up your itunes account.
I could not purchase any apple tv movie content because it kept saying my email address was wrong when logging in under my .mac account. There are a few issues with this...
#1) Why can't I enter a space in my apple ID on Apple TV when I can in iTunes where I can use that ID to purchase content?
#2) As mentioned above... do not use your apple ID when you login on apple TV... use your email address and password used to setup that first .mac account.
#3) Credit card info or pay options must be setup in advance on your computer to be able to purchase content from the Apple TV menus.

  • Apple TV does not recognize computer

Since I updated itunes to version 11.02.26 and Apple TV to vs 5.2.1, Apple TV has stopped recognizing my computer. It has been working perfectly so far. I encounter the exact same problem with a second Apple TV.  Apple TV asks me to turn on Home Sharing although Home Sharing is turned on. I tried turning it on and off with no result.

Just got off the phone with support and this fixed my problem...I also had to do a restart of my PC (not in the instructions below). I guess Microsoft added a new protocol or something which caused it to stop working recently (month or two).
First, make sure that the Bonjour service is running on your computer. You can check this by going to Edit > Preferences within iTunes and selecting the Sharing tab. This tab should display sharing options if the Bonjour service is running. Otherwise it will tell you that the Bonjour service is not running. To enable the Bonjour service in Windows 7, follow these steps. 1. Right-click Computer and select Manage. 2. Select Services and Applications > Services. 3. Double-click the Bonjour service, set the Startup type to Automatic. 4. Click Apply. 5. Click the Start button. 6. Close iTunes if it is open, then restart it. If the Bonjour service isn’t your problem, you may have a problem with iTunes trying to route sharing traffic using IP6 instead of IP4. Try these steps in Windows. 1. Open Control Panel. 2. Choose Network and Internet. 3. Select the View network status and tasks under the Network and Sharing Center section. 4. Choose your active network connection. It’s usually named “Wireless Network Connection 1″ or something similar. 5. Click the Properties button. 6. If Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked, uncheck it, then click OK. 7. Click Close. 8. Restart iTunes and try to use the Home Sharing feature again.

  • Apple Preview does not recognize jpeg export from lightroom 4.1

When i open the pictures in DPP I can see them fine?
Here is the message I get:
"The file “Edit-739820120223Canon EOS 7D.jpg” could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."

I was having the same problem! I downloaded a free file converter called Graphic Converter through CNET. It worked perfectly and you can convert one JPG file or a batch. I'm not sure what the issue is but this is definitely the easiest solution. I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion. I think it has something to do with the upgrade and reading JPG files that may be formatted differently. What I don't understand is why Mountain Lion cant read the files. Nonetheless, this worked perfectly for me.
    Good Luck!!!
