Apple TV doesn't rotate photos correctly in slideshow

In ATV OS 2.4, a new bug was introduced by Apple where photos taken in vertical portrait mode were not rotated correctly in the photos slideshow. In prior releases (v2.3 and earlier), there was not problem and portrait photos rotated just fine in slideshow mode (I've had an Apple TV since v1.0).
The problem is only in slideshow mode, because when you browse the photos in the viewer they are all rotated correctly, so any discussion about "you should go back and manually change your photo orientation on all your photos" is moot to me. If Apple TV can rotate them in the photo browser, and it used to rotate them correctly in slideshow, it can do it again as long as Apple fixes the bug.
What I'm wondering is when Apple is going to fix this problem. I am currently running ATV OS v3.0.1, and I assumed that since there were so many other posts on this issue since ATV OS v2.4 that they would have fixed it by now. But sadly, no. It is still a bug even in v3.0.1.
If anyone has any news about this problem from Apple, and what they intend to do about correcting it, please post.
I'm getting tired of turning my head sideways when I look at my slideshows.

Apple TV doesn't show photos which are saved on the Apple TV

I have copied all my iPhoto library to my apple tv and have been using it for a while. Now my Apple TV won't sync because of the a supposed Firewall issue. I have no firewall set up. My Apple TV shows that I have no photos in the library but iTunes shows there are 55 GB of photos. This is very frustrating. Sometimes it shows the photos just fine but won't let me stream my movies or TV shows. Now I can stream those which are not saved on my apple tv but I can't see the photos which are.
Any Ideas? What is the deal with the Firewall issues? This is happening once a week but the other times it works great.

Changing your wifi channel is merely a suggestion at this stage, but it's certainly worth giving it a try.
What you are trying to do is find a channel that is free from interference, which usually involves finding a channel that no one around you is using, so it really could be any that's best, you might have to try a few. You are probably best avoiding channel 11 which many routers seem to have as a factory setting.
Other types of interference such as that from microwaves and cordless phones can interfere with multiple channels.
Depending on where you are you may not be able to use certain channels such as 12 & 13 in the US.
You should not need to adjust any other devices.

Apple TV reboots when viewing photos and selecting slideshow mode

Just purchased the A-TV, so only experience is with the 2.3 OS release. I can view my synced photos without issue, but when I select slideshow mode, the screen goes black for a few minutes and then the box reboots. The diagnostics state there is not a hardware problem, but this is hopefully not a 'feature' of A-TV. Help!

There could be a/some photos causing a problem, are you able to sync your photos in batches to try to eliminate this possibility.

You'll need an application that edits the pics to do this: Acorn, Seashore, Photoshop Elements, Graphic Coverter are some, but there are many others - search on MacUpdate
Of course, iPhoto will do this too.

Iweb doesn't publish blog or photos correctly + "Blog Summary Widget" error

Hello,
I recently upgraded my iLife to 08 and am having trouble with iWeb on two accounts.
1. My blog doesn't display online correctly, and instead I get the "Blog Summary Widget" error.
2. Any new albums do not display the photos.
In both cases I cannot see my menu at the top but get a black dot instead.
I have updated to 2.0.4 in iWeb but this hasn't solved anything.
I have tried rebuilding the blog but that doesn't work either.
At this point I have simply put a message on my blog saying it's down, but need to find a problem.
Any solutions? I haven't foung one on here yet.

I don't seen any problem. Perhaps it is just your local browser cache? Try clearing your cache and using another browser.

http://web.mac.com/robruhn should work just fine, unless the person at the other end is mistyping it or something. I would suggest that you get rid of the space in your site name and republish, as that might cause problems for some systems (i.e. change Site 3 to Site3 or Site-3 or Site_3).

Apple TV doesn't show all pictures in photo stream

I have about 1000 pictures in my photo stream, but my Apple TV doesn't show all of them. It shows only 304 photos. How can I get all my photos to my Apple TV via photo stream? I have the latest Apple TV and the latest operating system on it.

Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there (subject to a 1,000 photo limit) until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

Try rebooting the iPad and see if that helps.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up

Microsoft word: rotate photos. Apple: rename photos

Hello, I am new to apple, and English...
I have two problems:
Microsoft word. I want to rotate a photo inserted in one of my word document, I can see the function "rotate" in the tool box but this is not working. When I click on the rotate option, every options appear in pale gray, and don't seem to be activated. Right click on the rotate function is also coming up with pale gray options....Is rotate photo not activated on my word or is it not possible to rotate a photo with apple on a word document?
Rename photos. I can rename one photo at a time, but I can't rename more than one at the same time??? if I select all the photos I want to rename, i can't find an option to rename all of the selected photos. I found the answer on the support web site for one photo only. Do you know if I can rename many photos at the same time or is it not possible with apple?

Rotate in MS Word 2008 works fine for me so it's possible your installation is corrupt. Below are the steps I used to rotate:
1. With the photo in the MS Word document ensure it's selected.
2. Open the Toolbox
3. Open the Formatting Palette
4. Towards the bottom of that palette locate Size, Rotation, and Ordering and then rotate using that tool.
For your photos I would recommend creating an Automator routine for doing that. Here is a an article that shows how to do it.

Rotated photo's from iPhoto appear unrotated in AppleTV

I just created a new iPhoto library and imported a lot of pictures. I rotated some of them in iPhoto and they appeared correctly in iPhoto. Then, I synced those library to Apple TV. Those roated photo's still appeared unroated in AppleTV. I deleted them and resynced them and it doesn't help. Now I need help, please...
FYI: I use MacBook Pro with 10.5.2, iLife 08 with the latest update. iPhoto library is in an external Firewire drive, which is always connected my Macbook Pro.

I had this issue with a series of photos originally imported and rotated under iPhoto 4. But somewhere along the way, the originals must have gotten deleted, as the "Revert to Original" command was greyed out and not a viable solution for me. However, I found that AppleTV would display the photo correctly if I just made any type of edit to the photo - say red-eye, or crop, or adjust exposure/saturation, or anything. Once saved as edited in iPhoto 8, AppleTV had no problem.
Hope this helps from some of you.

PSE5 Rotating Photos - Different Things Happen Each Time???

I have PSE5 and my catalogue has photos from various different cameras. When I rotate photos so they can be viewed straight up and not sideways in the organizer, different things happen to different photos.
Sometimes a photo rotates with no fuss. Sometimes a photo rotates and creates a version set with the original, non-rotated version underneath. Why the difference? Sometimes the rotated copy I see after is narrower with some photos and with others the rotated copy doesn't appear to be as narrow.
Here's the even trickier part. It appears that the photos that rotate and display as the most narrow within the organizer are the ones that appear right side up (i.e. perfect) on my digital photo frame. The ones that I rotate and don't appear as narrow afterwards in the organizer do not appear properly in my photo frame and instead display sideways (non-rotated) on the frame. Does this make any sense at all???
Are there options or preferred ways to rotate. Basically what I am most interested in is finding a way to rotate photos so they all appear right-side up on my digital frame. Otherwise I won't be able to use those photos on my frame.

the key document you need is a list of actionscript classes. in the help files:
actionscript 3.0 language reference and components/all classes. every class is listed. within each class, its methods, properties and events are listed.
(there are also functions like setTimeout(), setInterval() and navigateToURL() that are not listed under classes but these are most quickly found by asking here or using google to find what you want: flash as3 link to url, for example.
anyway, the main document is that class list. now, unless you read the programming actionscript 3.0 section of the help documents or you have some experience with oop languages, you'll have no idea what class you need to check to find what you want. i don't know any way around that issue. either read about how to use as3 in the help docs or elsewhere so you grasp the most used classes or you'll need to use some reasoning and luck to find the class that has what you need.
for example, in this issue, you might have scanned that list and found the timer class because that looks like it has something to do with timing of events. of course, if you were looking for how to determine the time of day, you might check that class too and fail to check the correct class, the date class. but that's where luck comes in until you have experience.
expand the timer class docs and read about its properties and events. can you see it will do what you want? if you can't see that or you can't see how to use that info after you found it, you'll need to do more basic reading about how to use as3.

Rotated photos duplicated...

when I rotate a photo, iPhoto consider this event like a modification event, and so he duplicate the photoes and put it in the modified folder. This append even if the rotation is made automatically by the system when the photoes are imported.
As a conseguence each vertical photoes in my library is duplicated.
How can I tell to iPhoto that he have not to duplicate rotated photoes?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you don't want iPhoto to automatically rotate those portrait files when imported from the camera you'll have to turn off the auto-rotate feature in the camera.
As for making a duplicate of each edited photo, and yes rotate is a type of edit, that's so you can edit, rotate, crop, etc. for a particular use and then get back your original file to use in other projects that might require a different size and type of edit.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Apple TV doesn't show up in my iTunes devices list

Hey, I tried to post this question an hour ago but apparently my crappy 2.16 GHz intel 2 core duo iMac with 3 GB, 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM can't handle anything else while it is pointing out in iMovie '09 that none of my HD video is stable enough to take advantage of the stabilization feature.
Anyway, here's my second attempt at seeking assistance for the most pressing of the many complications I am faced with as a Mac user.
I can no longer see my Apple TV in the list of devices in iTunes on my iMac. This happened after I downloaded the most recent software update for my Apple TV, and after my step-father-in-law hooked me up with a home entertainment system. I have noted below with "CHECK!" the tasks I have performed in my attempts to maintain a love affair with Apple:
Verify that you have the latest version of iTunes installed. CHECK!
Verify that you have the latest version of Apple TV software installed. CHECK!
Verify Apple TV is powered and properly connected to your television and you can navigate the Apple TV interface. CHECK!
Verify Apple TV is properly connected to your network and the network is properly configured. When configuring Apple TV, if you do not see your wireless network, exit the selection screen by pressing the Menu button then go back in and the software will rescan. DUMB THIS ONE DOWN, APPLE. HOW DO I VERIFY APPLE TV IS PROPERLY CONNECTED TO MY NETWORK? WHY NOT SAY, "CHECK THAT APPLE TV SHOWS UP IN THE iTUNES DEVICES LIST" AS A TROUBLESHOOTING OPTION WHEN SOMEONE SAYS THAT THEIR PROBLEM IS THAT THEIR APPLE TV DOESN'T SHOW UP IN THEIR iTUNES DEVICES LIST". THAT'D BE HELPFUL.
Verify network connectivity on Apple TV by playing a movie trailer in Movies > Trailers. CHECK (BUT *** IS THAT "BIG MAN JAPAN" MOVIE TRAILER ABOUT?)
Verify that the computer you are using can access the iTunes Store. CHECK!
If you're using Apple TV in a school or office environment, make sure Apple TV is on the same network segment as your computer (check with your network administrator) or else iTunes won't see Apple TV. NOT APPLICABLE
For more information on how to properly set up your Apple TV, see the Apple TV Users Guide. UH, I BOUGHT THIS THING 1.5 YEARS AGO. DO I NEED TO REALLY GO BACK TO THAT?
Restart iTunes (Quit or Exit and then reopen iTunes). CHECK!

Restart your computer. CHECK!

If you have Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), click here for information on configuring Firewall. SHOOTSKIE, I WILL NEED TO GO BACK TO THE WEBSITE TO CLICK THAT LINK.

If you use Windows, try disabling services and startup items that may be conflicting. UHH, WHY WOULD I EVER HAVE WINDOWS? Hi everyone. I am typing here on my brand new 24-inch iMac. So far it's great! However, the issue I had with the Apple TV is unrelated to the iMac itself, and I wanted to let everyone know what the solution was to my Apple TV issue.
Until early this Sunday morning when I discovered this solution, my iMac would not sync with the Apple TV. This problem began after the most recent Apple TV software update. I neglected to mention in my previous posts that my Apple TV was connected to the Internet via an Ethernet connection.
Prior to the most recent software update, I believe that my Apple TV communicated wirelessly with my iMac and via an Ethernet connection to the iTunes store. With the latest Apple TV update, the sync between the iMac and the Apple TV does not work if the Apple TV is connected to the Ethernet. My solution was as follows:
1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Apple TV. Do not reconnect.
2. Restore Apple TV to the factory settings. I'm not in front of my Apple TV at the moment but navigating through the Apple TV menu to reset the settings was fairly straightforward for me.
3. After resetting the factory settings and following the instructions, I was able to see the Apple TV in my computer's iTunes, but I was stuck with the super old software version from summer '07 when I bought this thing (i.e. before you could rent movies or watch anything in HD on the Apple TV).
4. Look for the software update on the Apple TV (again, fairly intuitive by navigating the menu on your TV) and download/install the latest update.
5. If your problem was due to having your Apple TV connected to the Ethernet, I think this should do the trick! It should now show up on your computer's iMac and it should automatically start syncing your iTunes content although I did have to direct it to sync my photos.
p.s. Does anyone know how I can let Apple know that this issue exists with the latest Apple TV update? The guys at the Genius Bar at the mall I went to in Pleasanton, CA couldn't find any notes in their knowledge database about issues with the latest Apple TV software update and I think it's important that Apple knows about this.
p.s.s. I think Apple should make all of us, their consumers, more aware of how to let Apple know about these issues because this issue was so frustrating and throughout the whole troubleshooting process I felt very helpless and would have felt so much more positive about Apple if I just had a forum in which I could let Apple know I was having this issue (above and beyond this user forum through which I ended up losing much of my iTunes album artwork after following one person’s advice).
So if that forum exists, please let me know and let's brainstorm as to how to get more people like me to be aware of that forum so other people don't experience the same frustrations I have experienced.
p.s.s.s. I haven't tried reconnecting my Apple TV to the Ethernet in my home. While it will probably be slower to rent and download movies wirelessly, I don't care that much as I'm thinking I will start renting movies through Netflix instead and just use the Apple TV to watch my homemade videos on my TV.
But I am curious, why does Apple charge so frickin' much to rent a movie on the Apple TV? $4.99 for an HD movie? Everyone who has NetFlix tells me it is sooooo much cheaper and very easy to use. And to be honest, this makes me mad. Not that there is a cheaper option for renting movies/TV shows. That makes me happy. What makes me mad is that Apple charges so much to rent a movie when it doesn’t benefit them and it doesn’t benefit me. I think Apple does a lot of good things, but I think being able to rent (or even better, to subscribe to) media that you can watch (almost) instantaneously in your home is the wave of the future and still relatively new. If Apple wants to make money off of this service in the long term, they need to start by offering movies for super cheap, even taking a loss off the price they pay the production companies if they have to, because right now it's still all about adoption (i.e. getting as many people as Apple possibly can to think about renting a movie or *please please* a TV show through Apple ).
So I guess I feel like it's a lose-lose for Apple and me. Through Apple, to rent a movie (or *please please* a TV show) I will pay much more than I would with Netflix. But if Apple can walk away with an untarnished reputation after creating a special headphone input into their original iPhone device to make extra money out of nothing, then maybe they can do no wrong and we just need to keep blindly giving them our moolah? Can somebody please let me know how I could get a better job or at least a raise so that I can give Apple all of the money they are trying to squeeze out of me?
p.s.s.s.s. I am soooo sorry Apple, but the other day when I was at your store looking for the Firewire adaptor I needed to transfer files from my Firewire 400 on my old iMac to my new iMac via the Firewire 800 adaptor, I just couldn’t stomach the huge markup. I imagine you guys make a ton of money by ridiculously marking up your accessories over what one could pay elsewhere.
I know the rest of your consumers are happy to pay $50 for buying the cable in your store and I would like to apologize right now for using your in-store computers to search for the alternative pricing which I found for $19.99. I don’t believe any of your other customers saw me doing this, but if they did, please accept my sincere apologies. In the current economic environment, reputation is everything and it would be unfortunate for all of us if the Apple masses felt they were being taken advantage of.

one thing you can also try is...
Try doing a hard reboot
1. hold the power and home buttons down
2. you will see the "swipe to turn off" screen come up... KEEP HOLDING THE BUTTONS
3. The screen will go black (turn off)... KEEP HOLDING THE BUTTONS
4. A white Apple logo will appear on the screen, now you can release the buttons. Let the iDevice boot... should only take a couple minutes.
