Apple TV Doesn't See Home Shared Library- All settings are correct. Help?

OK, so, I have two apple tv's, first gen. Both are completely updated. Netflix runs fine on both. Apple TV #1 see's the library on my wife's computer and the library on my computer. Apple TV #2 does not show up on either. However, sometimes it does- it's hit and miss.
I know it's not internet connectivity because I can browse iTunes and netflix on #2 without issue.
I've tried fixing the power settings on #2 to go off after the computer goes into sleep.
I've tried re-starting iTunes and, sometimes it shows up, sometimes it doesn't.
The router security has been removed to ensure easy connectivity.
Using "Remote" application on the iPad or iPhone or iPod, I can see the libraries I'm trying to connect to. Within the remote app is the only place that I can consistently see the #2 ATV.
I've tried turning off home sharing and turning back on for all computers-nothing. I've tried almost everything I could find on these forums but nothing is working to make this thing consistent. I've done the re-sets to manufacturer settings. The only thing I haven't tried is hard line witch is not possible due to set up but cannot be issue because I can access internet, itunes, and netflix with atv#2. Please help.

I have a similar problem.
I have a 2nd generation apple TV and all worked well until I upgraded my imac to the 27inch Imac.
Since then I cannot open home share on the apple TV.
I can see the internet, movies & utube but no computer.
I've tried turning off firewalls ( Norton & Macs Firewalls) but no change.
I've even tried going from wifi to ethernet but still no response. Every time I enter my apple password & ID it says cannot find the server.
I have airplay on my ipad which works perfectly on the computer (not apple tv because I cannot turn on home share)
Any suggestions
thanks

  • I recently downloaded lots of CD's to my itunes library. I have itunes match. None of the downloads are appearing on my ipad or iphone. All settings are correct. Anything I purchase on itunes shows up in the cloud on all the devices.

I downloaded CD's to my itunes library. I have itunes match. All my itunes purchased music is on my ipad and iphone cloud. For some reason, while the cloud appears in my library, the CD's that I downloaded (popular ones that itunes recognize) are not showing up on my ipad2 and my iphone4s. When I purchase songs from itunes directly they show up on all i devices (with the cloud icon). In my itunes library all the new downloads from CD's have the icloud icon. However, none of these downloads are showing up on my ipad and iphone as stated above. All my settings are correct. I am sure I am missing something, but not sure what....if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. thanks.

  • ATV doesn't see home sharing & doesn't recognize my MobileMr

While similar issues are here for the reading, none are quite the same as mine. So here goes:
I'm using a MacMini (Mid 2010: 2.26Ghz - which I will upgrade next Tuesday with a 2.66Ghz; 2GB SDRAM, L2 Cache 3MB). I'm a member of MobileMe. I'm running on 10.6.6, and have iTunes 10.2. On Jan 11th, I set up Airport Extreme, & installed my HP Printer and cable modem to it. Worked just fine. On March 1st I set up AppleTV, which I'm using to watch Netflix rentals on my TV. Upon plugging in the power, I installed the required upgrade. Everything is working great. No problems. Movies looked great. I have all the latest app's.
THEN I downloaded 2 apps: 1) MacDVD Ripper Pro, which allowed me to make backups of my DVD collection to view on my computer, thus saving wear & tear on the disks. BUT Movie only did not give me Closed Captioning UNLESS I ripped the entire disk (which is 2GB larger than just the movie). Went looking for an "editing" app where I could include Closed Captioning. I found and downloaded DVD Remaster Pro. This app gave me just what I wanted and more. I could convert my movies to .mv4 - which reduced the file to 1.24GB! I played my movie in ITunes; then I played my movie using; Qtime 7. The quality is excellent. It also said I could watch these movies on Apple TV - via ITunes. .Ah, THERE'S THE RUB…
When I go to the Apple TV menu, and select Computers, it tells me to open ITunes sharing. I HAVE! I have turned iTunes sharing on and off several times; the same for my Apple TV. It simply will NOT recognize my ITunes. Then I tried to link my iDisk on MobileMe; Apple TV does not recognize my account name. So I'm left with Netflix etc, & iTunes Store movies etc. to rent or buy - which is strange: It goes to iTunes for THE STORE, but NOT to my account! I'm very disappointed to say the least.
This leaves me with 2 ways to watch my movies on my TV: using a DVD player -OR setting up my computer to my TV (which I may try, but i'm not sure of the results). Any further ideas??

Found my answer by calling Applecare.
re: iTunes account. When setting up iTunes Home Sharing, yes, it can be setup from the Advance Tab, BUT you must ALSO go to preferences, Sharing and select which files. Then, open iTunes and pick a file containing your music or movies, etc. At the bottom are 3 icons: select the one that is a monitor covered by a triangle pointing down. Here change your speaker to Apple TV. When you open AppleTV, and go to Computer, your library appears, and can be played on your TV - which I did! The technician also warned me that my iTunes account must be open on my computer and my computer must not go to sleep while I am accessing iTunes files via AppleTV.
re: MobileMe. I'm told AppleTV cannot interact your iDisk. Using it here is basically only for photos. And it won't recognize your account name unless you have uploaded pictures into a MobileMe file. Haven't tried this one yet, but will. If it doesn't work, I will let you-all know

  • Can't see home sharing library on new PC

I have a 7 year old Windows XP PC, and a brand new Windows 7 PC. I would like to move my iTunes files from the old PC to the new one, so it looks like Home Sharing is the sensible way to do it. I have made sure that Home Sharing is enabled on both PCs, that sharing is enabled for the whole library on each, and that the latest iTunes is installed on both machines. I can see the library from the Windows 7 PC (3 songs) on the Windows XP PC, but can't see the library for the Windows XP PC (about 4000 files) on the Windows 7 PC. Why can't I see the XP library on the Windows 7 PC?
Incidentally, I also have an iPhone, through which I can see the Windows XP library, but not the Windows 7 library!

OK, I'm not sure exactly how, but I've managed to fix it.
Shortly after writing that post, I renamed the libraries on each PC, and was then able to see both on my iPhone, but still couldn't see the XP library on my Windows 7 PC.
I had done a soft reset on the wireless router earlier, but I decided to try a complete cold restart - turned off both PCs, and unplugged the power cable to my router, left all off for a few minutes, plugged the router back in, turned my old PC back on, loaded iTunes on that, then turned my new PC back on, at which point some message came on about the firewall, and then loaded iTunes. So I'm syncing now - it's worked!
I guess that's another problem solved by turning it off and back on again!

  • Home sharing suddenly stopped working. All devices have home sharing enabled, all devices are using the same network but cant see each other

I've gone through all the Googling and support forums I can handle.. They all tell me to the same things. I have done everything required and quite honestly Home Sharing was working for quite some time. So I don't think I changed anything.
The only culprit I can think of is the wireless network. We had to call Comcast and reset our service, and they gave us a new modem. Our router is also new.
Is there a setting in a router that lets multiple devices connect but blocks each of them to each other? That seems to be what's happening.
Apple TV2 can see our connection no problem and can download trailers (downloading movies never works though!!!), we have two Macs and two iPhones and all are on our wireless and none can connect to one another using Home Sharing.
Please help!! This is an odd one!!

I believe this is true. Alas, I wrote this a while ago and the link is dead. I can't totally remember what the issue was.
But, looking through the PDF for the Linksys e2000, searching for 'filter multicast' I see this:
Filter Multicast The multicasting feature allows for multiple transmissions to specific recipients at the same time . If multicasting is permitted, then the Router will allow IP multicast packets to be forwarded to the appropriate computers . Select this option to enable the filter . This option is disabled by default.
And in my settings it's been enabled. So maybe try that.
Filter multicast is under Securtiy>Firewall after you log in as admin.
Why it's disabled by default I do not know.
Good luck! Hope this is the solution!! Apple should warn people of this feature conflict to Apple TV buyers.

  • HT1277 BT have confirmed all settings are correct.  Contact Apple, see if they can sort it......

I cannot receive webmail from BT office 365.  iMail is unable to receive emails.  All my settings/preferences are correct.  They were confirmed by BT!  Bt operative told me to seek help from Apple!  What do I do?  BT set up iMail using screenshare, before you ask.

This is a user forum, and not a formal channel into Apple support.  If you're looking to discuss this with Apple Support (which I'd infer was what BT had intended), then you'll want to contact Apple support directly, either by phone, email, or the Genius Bar at an Apple store.
You have written that you cannot receive "webmail from BT office 365", but there are few details on how that mail is being routed and received.  I'm going to make some guesses here.
In general, you cannot receive web mail directly - assuming that this BT office 365 is a typical web mail system - as there needs to be a mail server involved somewhere.  I can't determine from what you've posted and what I see on the network if the mail server you're referencing might be the same server as is used by "BT office 365", or if it could be a different server.  If it's a different server, then there are other places that mail can be dropped.
Based on what I see on the net, this BT office 365 web mail package appears to be the Microosoft Office 365 package.  If that's the case, then Microsoft has troubleshooting information available, and also has information on determining the proper mail server settings for Apple Mail.
If the server behind the Microsoft Office 365 mail system at BT is the same mail server that you're using here (amd as I might guess), then the issues are within BT's network, or with the network connectivity from your network into the BT servers.  Its also quite possible that there are firewall or other blocks operating within your local network, or in the path to the BT servers.
Connectivity can be verified -- that's something that a typical front-line support call would try and resolve - but I don't know if that testing has happened here.  Basically, there would be an attempt to connect into the ports made directly, typically using either telnet to the target port, or openssl s_client connect to the target port for SSL-based connections.  This to determine if the port is blocked or not.
Given that using telnet or openssl s_client are tools that you probably don't want to start out with, start with the above Microsoft documentation for the proper settings, and try the Apple Mail Connection Doctor tool (Mail.app > Window > Connection Doctor), and see what that reports.
If the error(s) or problem(s) you're encountering here are not a baseline mail configuration error (and if there's more than one mail server involved), then it's quite possible for mail from one mail server to be rejected by another.
And if you continue to have issues, contacting Apple Support directly might be helpful; you can share credentials and server-related information with them, and that can greatly speed up the troubleshooting process involved here.

  • Home Sharing Library doesn't include all music that's in main Music Library

Sorry if this has been answered previously. I haven't been able to fashion a search to find the answer.
I turned on Home Sharing in the Remote app on my iPhone 4. It readily found my Home Sharing Library from my iMac (that contains 1306 items). After entering in my Apple ID and password, I tried to search for a recently purchased song using the Remote app and it didn't find it. I went to the iMac and immediately found the song in the Library and in the Purchased playlist. I also noticed that the Library on the iMac contains 2781 items.
Question #1: Why wouldn't the Home Sharing Library on my iMac not contain the same songs that are in the Library on the same iMac?
To solve the problem, I just synced the iMac to the Remote app (not through Home Sharing) and was able to see my entire library.
Problem/Question #2: Since my Home Sharing library doesn't show all the music, when my wife's MacBook Home Shares, she too does not see all the music available for streaming. They are all on the same wi-fi network. The reason I use Home Sharing vs. Sharing of the library is that I automatically transfer iPhone apps across the network as she syncs her iPhone to her computer (she wants no music).
Hoping someone can help me troubleshoot.
    Thanks.
    Martin

i'm guessing you used more than one iTunes store account to purchase content.
if that's the case, try authorizing your Mac to play/use the content purchased from the other iTS account(s).
that's basically very easy. all you have to do is +log out+ of one account (click on the account name in the Store window and select +sign out+ from the pop-up dialog) and into the other, and then they will both be authorized. when done, sign back into your usual account. you'll have to do that one time only.

  • I can see home sharing on my iPhone and iPad both running iOS 5 but when it loads the library is empty. Help!!

The iPad is new today so pleeeease help! I have the latest version of iTunes and both iPhone and iPad are up to date. I have never had a problem with home sharing before 10.5 iTunes. Both mobile devices can eventually see the shared library but load it as though it is empty. This applies to movies as well. I have turned off home sharing on the mac and restarted it. I have also made sure that the username and password on both mobile devices are correct. Help!

    iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0
    iPad 2 running iOS 5.0

This has solved loads of people who have this issue and have used an alternate DNS setting.  Below are instructions for both iPhone OTA and on you Mac
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
    Change DNS Servers
    Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
    On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
    You can use OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    or
You can Google Public DNS if you want
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
I have actually repointed my routers DNS so all my devices now point to OpenDNS servers

  • I am trying to move my itunes library from my old pc to my new imac, home sharing is on and I can see the shared library.  My problem is that when I check the shared library to import it to my imac I cannot import it.  Can anyone help me?

I am trying to move my itunes library from my old pc to my new imac, home sharing is on and I can see the shared library.  My problem is that when I check the shared library to import it to my imac I cannot import it.  Can anyone help me?

You need to transfer the iTunes Library from the most recent backup you made before the hard drive was replaced.
You can't transfer the full iTunes Library from the iPad back to iTunes.
There are third-party Windows applications that will transfer data from an iOS device, but they don't re-create the iTunes Library exactly as it was before.

  • Appletv doesn't see Photos app library, why?

After updating to the new Photos app from iPhoto my apple tv doesn't see my computer's photo library.  iTunes doesn't see it either to choose which folders to share for home sharing.
Is this a drawback to the new Photos app?
    Thanks

iTunes is up to date, I don't even see the Photos library in the pull down on the home sharing prompt.  Is it because my photos library is on an external drive?  iPhoto had no problem seeing this.  Do I have to go back to iPhoto or will Apple week this?

  • I have to keep restarting AppleTV to see Home Sharing on Windows 7 iTunes

I used to have all my media on a NAS drive with modified ATV2 so I can access my movies on there. This worked absolutely perfect, except I was annoyed I could not store and play iTunes purchased movies from the NAS. So I decided to factory reset ATV back to normal with latest update (6.0.2) and invest in a Windows 7 computer (Acer Revo) so I can leave it on permanently with iTunes running so I can access all my movies, TV shows and pics on all my devices anytime in the house without having my Macbook always on. Now I have problems.
Multiple times a day, I go to Computers on Apple TV and it either says "there was a problem connecting to the computer" or to "turn home sharing on on the computer". The computer is running fine. I can see and access it on the network using my computers and other devices. iTunes is running. Home Sharing is On.
To fix it I have to restart Apple TV and then Apple TV can connect OK.
The AppleTV is connected via network cable to the router, and so is the server (no wifi). The router is a Technicolour Gateway.
I have disabled the Firewall on Windows 7, still same problem.
The server, and AppleTV both have static IP addresses assigned.
iTunes on Windows 7 is version 11.1.3.8
    ATV2 software is 6.0.2
I do hope I can fix this, because I want to do it Apple's way, and have spent all this time moving my library to iTunes. But if I cant I have to modify ATV2 again and not use Home Sharing. I also wanted to purchase an ATV3 for my bedroom, and for the kids rooms, but I am not going to if this problem persists.
P.S. I do not believe I should have an Apple computer with iTunes on, this should work seamlessly with iTunes on Windows 7. So dont know what else I can do.
P.P.S. I can see this is a common problem, but I started a new thread because everyone else says they have to restart iTunes or the router to fix it. I do not have to do this. I have to restart AppleTV. So I wonder if its an AppleTV issue and not a router/iTunes/server issue.
    Thanks

I also get this problem on my iPad, so probably not related to the AppleTV. On the iPad I restarted Airport Extreme this time, and then the iPad saw my Home Sharing.
So to recap, restarting the router or Airport Express allowed the iPad and AppleTV to see Home Sharing. Restarting AppleTV also allows AppleTV to see Home Sharing.
So does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks

  • How often does the Apple TV sync with updated home sharing playlists?

I am trying to use several Apple TV's at my business for content management throughout our campus.  I want to be able to have a playlist of pictures and videos that is easy to update.  Can anyone tell me how often the Apple TV syncs with the home sharing network for an updated playlist?  It would be very inconvenient if the only way was to do a reboot on every device each time content was updated.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I can't really say for sure how often the Apple TV updates its shared libraries.
I do however know that once the Apple TV as completed playing something, it will sync with the shared library in order to update the play count. So I'd be reasonably sure that the shared library is updated at least once every time something is played.

  • Apple TV doesn't see iphone add remote greyed out

    Hi There
Wife just got a new iphone, I have it synced/paired to her PC's itunes and also paired to my imac itunes which has our music collection (not syncing just have music set to manage manually). Have downloaded the remote app and it connects wonderfully to my itunes and hers but I cannot add remote on our apple tv the option is greyed out on apple tv.......I have checked the wifi network is the same on all, checked the fire wall settings are correct and pretty much everything else. On the apple tv screen it says to start by downloading the remote app which just in case I have done to my imac as well.....I am wondering if my issue is because the itunes library that is streamed to the apple tv is different to the one that the iphone is synced to (ie her PC)........one thing I have noticed is that apple tv doesn't appear on the devices list on her PC.......not sure why this isn't working but its driving me nuts have looked all through the discussions and can't find a solution

I'm not really sure what criteria is necessary for the remote option to show up on the tv, I'm surmising it's simply a fault (which I was hoping could be addressed by a restart). Another option would be a need for the tv to actually detect a wifi network before it enables this option, although mine works on an tv which is connected by ethernet and although that ethernet network is connected to a wifi network, I'm not sure the tv could know that.
The problems you now seem to be experiencing seem to be network related, and I wonder if you are now experiencing interference. You could try changing your wifi broadcast channel to see if that helps.
